This month we read and review The Alice Network by Kate Quinn! Like all of our reviews, the first part is spoiler free. Here's a little about The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue: 1947. In the chaotic aftermath of World War II, American college girl Charlie St. Clair is pregnant, unmarried, and on the verge of being thrown out of her very proper family. She's also nursing a desperate hope that her beloved cousin Rose, who disappeared in Nazi-occupied France during the war, might still be alive. So when Charlie's parents banish her to Europe to have her “little problem” taken care of, Charlie breaks free and heads to London, determined to find out what happened to the cousin she loves like a sister. 1915. A year into the Great War, Eve Gardiner burns to join the fight against the Germans and unexpectedly gets her chance when she's recruited to work as a spy. Sent into enemy-occupied France, she's trained by the mesmerizing Lili, code name Alice, the “queen of spies,” who manages a vast network of secret agents right under the enemy's nose. Thirty years later, haunted by the betrayal that ultimately tore apart the Alice Network, Eve spends her days drunk and secluded in her crumbling London house. That is until a young American barges in uttering a name Eve hasn't heard in decades, and launches them both on a mission to find the truth . . . no matter where it leads. We hope you enjoy this episode!Do you have a book you'd like us to review on this show? Which romantic gestures are endearing (ooo!) and which are just creepy (eww!)? Will the couple make it? And does this movie, regardless of quality, deliver the happy-making endorphins we could all use right now?

Ever watch a movie that should, by all accounts, be really bad? Or maybe you've seen a film that just needs a few changes, and it could be a real winner. Charlie St. Cloud (2010) falls somewhere between those lines. Starring Zac Efron, Amanda Crew, Donal Logue, Kim Basinger, and Ray Liotta, this film is not short on talent, that's for sure. With an interesting enough premise based off of The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud by Ben Sherwood, this film had every right to be good. So where does this film err? As a complete piece, the film lacks subtlety. It spares no punches, and spends plenty of moments dropping thesis statements. Sure, once or twice could work, but it becomes very routine. However, we found ourselves enjoying this cheesy film — which is always refreshing.
Doing the episode a little early, so it was either I do it by myself or Allison record with me so we chose the latter. I think that's how you spell that. Anyways we cover what little news we had for the like three or four days since the last recording. The Trailer Spot this week is Charlie St. Cloud starring Zac Efron. No Box Office Report because well we couldn't do it even if we wanted too. And for reviews this episode is Robin Hood and Allison does a DVD review of Bitch Slap. Enjoy!
