I catch up with Kevin in this weeks episode, and given the rather unfortunate news delivered by that ridiculous rodent Punxsutawney Phil, it seems only appropriate that we talk about the harsh winter we've been experiencing. Specifically, given the severity of the weather across the nation, we take the opportunity to dive into survival skills that specifically apply to the winter, the harsh cold, and some of the considerations that need to be at the top of your list when planning for what could happen. We talk in detail about clothing choices and layers, but more importantly Kevin get's into the why behind this and explains the importance of choosing certain materials over others. Additionally, we get into the types of heat loss and how your clothing helps to combat that, water collection and storage, creating makeshift shelter, food, and more. This was a real learning opportunity for me, and I'm sure you're bound to pick a few things up as well!Kevin's book is also out, titled "Beyond the Field" and is available now!: https://www.amazon.com/Beyond-Field-Taking-Wilderness-Skills/dp/B0F47J3QZW/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0Visit our sponsors!Our Patreon - www.patreon.com/prepared_mindset_podCustom Night Vision - www.customnightvision.com

The Heart Wants What It Wants. In this Valentine’s Day episode, four medical students sit down to play the ultimate compatibility game—answering questions their partners answered about them ahead of time. From whether they’re optimists or realists about med school (some hedging here), to what their dens would look like as animals (things got weird), these spouses and significant others prove they actually know their medical students pretty well. Mostly. There’s a Punsesee…Puncsa…Punxsutawney Phil appearance, some passionate love for hobby farms, and one unfortunate name mix-up to kick off the whole episode. Whether you’re a pre-med wondering how people maintain relationships during the madness of medical school, or you just want to hear some genuinely funny banter about med school couples, M1 Anna Royer and M2s Samantha Gardner, Sarah Upton, and Alexis Baker (and spouses Nathan, Nick, Kyle, and Caleb–er, Cade) are here for you. You’ll hear how these medical students actually talk to their partners about school (spoiler: sometimes too much about bones), what they’d do with more time in their day, and why you should never ask a them to draw your portrait. It’s proof that love can absolutely survive medical education. In this whimsical episode of Tangent Station, hosts dive into the hilarity of Rent a Backstory—a service that transforms mundane lives into tales of intrigue. They also poke fun at the annual tradition of Groundhog Day, where Punxsutawney Phil, America's furry oracle, predicts the weather with dubious accuracy. Amidst playful banter, they explore the influence of the 1993 Bill Murray movie and reflect on humanity's quirky obsession with predicting meteorological patterns through whimsical and often absurd traditions. Throughout, a blend of humor, nostalgia, and engaging tangents keeps listeners entertained.

Long before it was a movie, Groundhog Day always made me chuckle. It's silly to think that so many people could be upset by whether a rodent sees their shadow or not. And of course, last week, when Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, for some reason, that means six more weeks of winter. Now we all know the season technically lasts six more weeks. But at this point, everybody is tired of snow, or in our case, ice. Most Winters aren't horrible here in Nashville, but we seem to have one storm of some kind each and every year. This year was a doozy. And now, we've hit the worst portion of the year. It's fake spring… Click Here To Subscribe Apple PodcastsSpotifyAmazon MusicGoogle PodcastsTuneIniHeartRadioPandoraDeezerBlubrryBullhornCastBoxCastrofyyd.deGaanaiVooxListen NotesmyTuner RadioOvercastOwlTailPlayer.fmPocketCastsPodbayPodbeanPodcast AddictPodcast IndexPodcast RepublicPodchaserPodfanPodtailRadio PublicRadio.comReason.fmRSSRadioVurblWe.foYandex jQuery(document).ready(function($) { 'use strict'; $('#podcast-subscribe-button-13292 .podcast-subscribe-button.modal-69928f5de6230').on("click", function() { $("#secondline-psb-subs-modal.modal-69928f5de6230.modal.secondline-modal-69928f5de6230").modal({ fadeDuration: 250, closeText: '', }); return false; }); });
The Ghost Furnace - Episode 145 "Groundhog Day" "...Now on this February 2nd, Punxsutawney Phil, the seer of seers, the prognosticator of all prognosticators, was awakened from his wintry nap at dawn on Gobbler's Knob..." Every year in a small Pennsylvania town, thousands of people stand for hours in the predawn cold to catch a glimpse of a 100+ year old groundhog. They are not only kept warm by the ceremonial dancing, the locally brewed beer, the VFW pancakes and the company of a secret order of marmot wranglers. But chiefly by the hope, that this small brown woodchuck will gaze into the either and divine an early spring. What the if a groundhog could actually predict the weather? Turns out Punxsutawney Phil would need way more than a shadow — we're talking a full groundhog space program, weather satellites, underground supercomputers, and a solar shade the size of western Pennsylvania. Welcome to the groundhog deep state, where fuzzy bureaucrats run atmospheric circulation models and control whether the sun shines on command. And here's the kicker — the whole setup might actually teach you why the weather forecast on your phone is one of civilization's most underappreciated miracles. --- Check out our membership rewards! This week's episode covers everything from deeply serious to delightfully silly. Hannah and Barbi talk about the powerful and heartbreaking story of Elizabeth Smart before shifting gears into Groundhog Day and the legend of Punxsutawney Phil. From there, it's cold weather talk, iguanas falling from trees, pink drinks, and spotting manatees in the springs.They also dive into Florida headlines, including gold and silver being recognized as legal tender, share the hilarious (and unfortunate) story of Barbi getting gum stuck in her hair, and reflect on one of their videos unexpectedly going viral. It's a true mixed-bag episode - full of conversation, curiosity, and classic bird walks that somehow all work together.

If you've ever trusted an airline, packed food “for later,” or believed a groundhog — this funny comedy podcast is here to hurt you.The Rizzuto Show comedy kicks off February already in shambles after a three-day weekend absolutely wrecks the studio's muscle memory. Punxsutawney Phil emerges, sees his shadow (allegedly), and condemns us all to six more weeks of winter while the crew debates whether anyone actually knows how Groundhog Day works.Then Rafe Williams recounts one of the most cursed travel weekends imaginable: stranded airports, nonstop delays, pilots who clearly should not be making small talk, and a Five Guys order forgotten in a backpack that slowly transforms into a greasy war crime mid-flight. Things escalate when the plane heats up like a sauna, passengers start passing out, and the smell of fries becomes a supporting character.The crew also breaks down the new Real ID situation — including the $45 TSA “Confirm ID” fee that feels suspiciously like a cover charge to exist — and debates whether complying with the government is worth it or if Rafe should fully commit to sovereign citizen energy. Along the way, flight attendants are praised as saints, airlines are ranked (American Airlines finishes exactly where you think), and a Boeing 777 toilet failure story pushes everyone to their emotional limit.Add in Rizz Show Night at the Blues game, Lern losing her car, and Lern discovering she somehow looks like Warwick Davis and Brianna Chickenfry in the same weekend, and you've got a funny podcast that spirals exactly the way it should.It's airline chaos, pop culture confusion, and daily comedy from start to finish — just another normal day on The Rizzuto Show.Follow The Rizzuto Show → https://linktr.ee/rizzshowConnect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast → https://1057thepoint.com/RizzShowHear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MOSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
