Summary In this episode, Andy interviews Dave Garrison, author of The Buy-In Advantage: Why Employees Stop Caring and How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Give Their All. We've all faced moments where our team seems checked out or disengaged. But what if the real issue is that they don't feel invited to care? Dave challenges conventional approaches to engagement and offers practical, actionable strategies for fostering true buy-in. In this conversation, Dave shares the difference between engagement and buy-in, how traditional methods like bribing or badgering can backfire, and how leaders can use curiosity, clarity, and inclusive decision-making to fuel commitment. You'll learn how to better structure meetings, make feedback more meaningful, and identify red flags that indicate declining motivation. If you're leading teams and looking to create cultures where people don't just show up but they fully buy in, this episode is for you! Sound Bites “It's not about satisfaction. It's about whether people are bringing their head, heart, and gut to work.” “Leaders go last all the time. Except when it comes to vulnerability. June 11th: Raymont Hopewell Born (1971) Sometimes it feels like all the pieces fall together during an investigation. Like it's the perfect storm of evidence that puts someone dangerous behind bars for good. On June 11th 1971 a man was born who would go on to commit some truly heinous crimes against the elderly. A man who, with the help of family and survivors, was placed behind bars when all the evidence against him created a pretty iron-clad case. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raymont_Hopewell, https://murderpedia.org/male.H/h/hopewell-raymont.htm, https://www.baltimoresun.com/2006/09/15/hopewell-sentenced-in-rapes-murders/, https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/local/2006/08/12/maryland-briefing/fd78b7a0-0105-4f90-9d65-b6a59a5910f5/ Learn more about your ad choices. God has a divine design for the storms in our lives. And sometimes the things that we fear the most turn out to be the exact things that He is planning to use to deliver us into what He wants next for us. So, our deliverance can potentially be found right in the midst of our storm. And on the next Treasured Truth, Pastor Ford will remind us, all we have to do is trust God in and through the storm. This is an audio essay from my SubStack, Process This. You can head over here to read or watch the entire essay. I've been tracking the peculiar contradictions of American religious life for years now, and there's one puzzle that keeps me up at night: Why does liberal theology keep producing brilliant scholarship while liberal churches empty out? It's not just a marketing problem or bad leadership—it's what my friend Bo Sanders calls a "perfect storm." In this episode, I dig into the fundamental incompatibility between liberalism's love affair with individual choice, Christianity's call to communal formation, and consumer capitalism's corrosive effects on both. We've got a faith tradition that's too secular for believers, too religious for secularists, and too academic for everyone else. Meanwhile, 55% of mainline Protestants voted for Trump, so we can't even claim the "liberal" label fits the folks in our pews. I walk through five predicaments killing liberal Christianity—from what Henry Nelson Wieman called "spiritual thinness" to what I'm calling "liberal laryngitis," the inability to speak clearly on anything that matters. Add cultural shifts that make Sunday just another day for Target runs, and you've got churches with pipe organ endowments bigger than their mission budgets, wondering why nobody shows up. But here's the thing: something valuable dies if we lose thoughtful faith entirely. The question isn't whether liberal Christianity deserves to survive—it's whether we can build something sturdy enough to weather this storm. Maybe it's time to take Whitehead's advice and "disembark on Mount Ararat" to build something entirely new. Fair warning: This one's going to make some folks uncomfortable. But as Niebuhr reminds us, Christianity always stands under judgment—including its liberal expressions. ____________________________________________________________________________ I hope you enjoy it and consider supporting my work by joining 80k+ other people on Process This. This is the true story of how AI medical misinformation nearly killed me while I was discovering a breakthrough treatment for chronic inflammatory diseases.I've been researching connections between cancer, autoimmune diseases, and chronic inflammation for years. When I found rupatadine - an antihistamine with unique anti-inflammatory properties - I thought I'd found a game-changer. But AI gave me wrong information about its half-life, leading to toxic drug accumulation that left me unable to walk, thinking I might die.The cruel irony? The same pharmacokinetic property that nearly killed me makes rupatadine perfect for the rotating antihistamine protocol I developed - inspired by cannabis research - that's been life-changing for my chronic conditions. In this video, I share:- How I developed a "systems thinking" approach to chronic illness- The antihistamine rotation protocol that eliminated my brain fog and chronic symptoms - How AI medical misinformation nearly killed me- Why understanding drug half-lives could save your life- The breakthrough discovery that came from my near-death experience- How I've saved the healthcare system hundreds of thousands of dollars- Why the Canadian healthcare system has completely failed people with complex conditionsThis story illustrates the deadly risks of AI medical advice AND the potential for breakthrough discoveries when we think systemically about disease. It's a cautionary tale about trusting AI for medical information, but also about the innovative solutions we can find when conventional medicine fails us.**WARNING: This video discusses medications and medical research. We covered a lot of ground, and some of it went deep, so a heads-up that this episode does touch on mental health struggles. Donna shared her personal story of going from what looked like a successful, 'together' life to a sudden, overwhelming mental health crisis that nearly took her life. What’s wild is how fast it all happened... from a work conflict to suicidal thoughts in the span of just over a week. She talked about the shame, the silence, and the pressures that built up. But also, how she came through the other side (not just once, but twice) and how she’s now using her lived experience to help create healthier, more resilient workplaces. We got into the nuances of resilience, coping strategies, and the stuff that actually helps when you're not okay. Honestly, this episode was an awesome and real coffee-chat in the best way. It’s a reminder that no one’s immune to mental health battles, and that asking for help can literally change the outcome. Donna’s story is one of courage, purpose, and serious self-reflection. I’m really grateful she came on and shared it with so much heart. In this special edition episode, Michael LeBlanc and Steve Dennis address the unprecedented challenges facing retailers with Steve's "10 Tantalizing Tips for Tumultuous Times." Steve rates current market turbulence at a 9 out of 10, comparing it to COVID-era disruption but noting the added complexity of legal uncertainties around tariff policies. The news segment covers significant retail developments, starting with ongoing tariff turmoil. A U.S. court ruled Trump's tariff policies illegal, creating additional uncertainty for retailers already struggling with implementation. Steve explains how this legal challenge, combined with the administration's failure to secure the promised "90 deals in 90 days," has intensified market turbulence.Earnings season revealed stark contrasts in retail performance. While Abercrombie & Fitch, Costco, and Dick's Sporting Goods posted strong results, Target's struggles were particularly alarming—down nearly 4% compared to Walmart's 4-5% growth, highlighting a major and continuing performance gap between direct competitors. Department stores including Macy's, Dillards, and Kohl's continued their downward trajectory, with most posting negative comps. The episode also covers Hudson's Bay Company's final closure in Canada, with Canadian Tire acquiring the historic brand's IP for $30 million. The second segment focuses on ten essential tactics for survival and growth. The first foundational tips emphasize radical commitment to reality and transparency, urging retailers to honestly assess their situation and act accordingly. Steve advocates for embracing uncertainty and building agility into operations, followed by maintaining innovation through continuous testing despite budget pressures.Customer-focused strategies include choosing your passionate core of fans (inspired by Seth Godin's work), being human-centered while digitally enabled, and prioritizing storytelling over purely functional benefits. Steve emphasizes that people buy a brand's story before they buy the product.Strategic excellence tips include "editing to amplify"—narrowing customer and offering focus to boost signal amid market noise—and conducting comprehensive friction audits of the customer journey. The hosts stress distinguishing between table stakes (necessary but non-differentiating capabilities) and true differentiators that create competitive advantage. The final tip, "cash is king," proves particularly relevant given tariff impacts on cash flow. Throughout the discussion, the hosts acknowledge that guidance must be tailored to individual circumstances—strategies for Walmart differ significantly from those needed by smaller specialty retailers. The episode serves as both a reality check and practical roadmap for retailers navigating what Steve describes as an era of unprecedented uncertainty, volatility, and competitive pressure where strong players are aggressively pursuing market share opportunities. Send Us a Message (include your contact info if you'd like a reply)Divorce has a reputation for bringing out surprising behaviors in otherwise composed, reasonable people. Even the most patient parent might find themselves sending aggressive texts at 2 AM. The kindest spouse might suddenly become fixated on revenge. The most logical professional might make financially devastating decisions based purely on emotion. Why does this happen? In this episode, we explore the psychological underpinnings of why good people often behave badly during divorce. We unpack the popular saying that "criminal courts see bad people on their best day, while divorce courts see good people on their worst day" - a profound truth that helps us understand the perfect storm of emotional, practical, and identity challenges divorce creates. When someone faces the end of their marriage, they're not just untangling a relationship - they're grieving the life they expected to have. This grief, combined with practical pressures like custody arrangements and financial concerns, pushes many into survival mode. And when we're in survival mode, our capacity for rational thinking diminishes dramatically. As divorce coaches, we've developed specific approaches for working with clients caught in reactive emotional states. We share practical techniques for creating judgment-free spaces where clients can explore what's really happening beneath their anger, fear, or revenge fantasies. Through powerful questions that invite self-awareness, we help clients align their behavior with their true values and long-term goals.Whether you're a helping professional working with divorcing clients or someone navigating your own divorce journey, this conversation offers compassionate insights into the emotional complexity of ending a marriage. Remember, reacting emotionally doesn't make someone a bad person - it makes them human. With the right support, these challenging moments can become opportunities for profound growth and self-discovery. Divorce often brings emotional chaos—and as attorneys, mediators, financial advisors, divorce coaches, and dispute resolution professionals, you're tasked with guiding clients through it.Join us for a practical and engaging LinkedIn Learning webinar:“From Chaos to Clarity: Strategies for Work with High Emotional Clients in Divorce" Learn more and RSVP Learn more about DCA® or any of the classes or events mentioned in this episode at the links below:Website: www.divorcecoachesacademy.comInstagram: @divorcecoachesacademyLinkedIn: divorce-coaches-academyEmail: DCA@divorcecoachesacademy.com

Retailer earnings are showing weakness, but Katie Thomas from Kearney Consumer Institute said that it cannot all be attributed to tariff uncertainty. Thomas said that consumers are spending based on the reality right now, not based on potential economic weakness ahead, and that shoppers have the ability to shop around at stores with an abundance of options. An increase in delinquencies gives reason for concern, but spending from the top-end of consumers could help keep spending strong. Thomas thinks that there may be a return to supply chain issues from the pandemic, as companies weigh how much inventory to keep in stock due to questions over tariff policy.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Subscribe to the Market Minute newsletter - https://schwabnetwork.com/subscribeDownload the iOS app - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/schwab-network/id1460719185Download the Amazon Fire Tv App - https://www.amazon.com/TD-Ameritrade-Network/dp/B07KRD76C7Watch on Sling - https://watch.sling.com/1/asset/191928615bd8d47686f94682aefaa007/watchWatch on Vizio - https://www.vizio.com/en/watchfreeplus-exploreWatch on DistroTV - https://www.distro.tv/live/schwab-network/Follow us on X – https://twitter.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/schwab-network/About Schwab Network - https://schwabnetwork.com/about
The Perfect Storm ⛈️ - When Wisdom Saved Knowledge
Michael Gentile, strategic investor in the junior mining sector and co-founder of Bastion Asset Management, discusses the current state of the gold mining industry and its potential for mean reversion. He highlights that gold mining stocks are trading at depressed levels despite record-high gold prices, creating a compelling entry point for investors. Gentile notes that while gold prices have tripled since 2018, gold mining stocks have lagged behind, offering significant value. Gentile emphasizes the importance of investing in commodities during periods of low sentiment and depressed prices, as this setup often precedes substantial returns. He points to historical cycles where negative sentiment and undervaluation led to major rebounds in gold mining stocks. Gentile also underscores the strong fundamentals of the industry, including record margins and free cash flow generation, which he attributes to higher gold prices and stable costs. He contrasts the current market with past periods, such as 2015-2020, where similar conditions led to significant rallies in gold mining stocks. Gentile believes that the sector is poised for a rotation, driven by improving fundamentals and macroeconomic factors like central bank buying of gold and geopolitical uncertainties. He also notes that while tech stocks have outperformed gold mining stocks historically, the latter now offers a unique opportunity due to its undervaluation. Gentile advises investors to diversify their exposure to the sector through ETFs or baskets of producing companies before moving into higher-risk junior miners. He stresses patience and a long-term perspective, as building mines takes time and requires careful consideration of jurisdictional risks and infrastructure challenges. In conclusion, Gentile sees the gold mining sector as a multi-year tailwind driven by macroeconomic trends, including the repositioning of gold as a hedge against inflation and the US dollar's decline. He encourages investors to allocate at least 5-10% of their portfolios to gold or related equities to preserve wealth in uncertain times.
This week, we're busting out the slammer and potentially wishing we were back in it depending on who you ask, as we team up with the canary-clad copper to take down a star-studded mob in a wildly stylish and outlandishly conceived blockbuster starring a charming old man incapable of doing action scenes, that's been seemingly buried in the Disney vault in the years since. It's 1990's Dick Tracy, directed and produced by Warren Beatty, and starring Beatty, Madonna, Al Pacino, Glenne Headly, Charlie Korsmo, Mandy Patinkin, Dustin Hoffman, Seymour Cassel, William Forsythe, Charles Durning, Dick Van Dyke, Paul Sorvino, James Caan, Kathy Bates and Catherine O'Hara. Most of these stars are unrecognizeable under the monstrous makeup required to make them look like their vintage crime comic strip counterparts, but Pacino made enough of an impression with a wildly comedic take on his typical mobster persona that he netted an Oscar nom for Best Supporting Actor, losing to Joe Pesci for GoodFellas. While Beatty is at least a decade too old to be proper fit as the movie's lead, it's his ambition behind the camera that makes the movie such a curiosity all these years later, as the film is either an enchanting dreamscape filled with unsolvable How Did They Do That movie magic puzzles, or a steaming pile of neon-drenched puke depending on which of our two hosts you ask. But that's okay, as we have some heated disagreement this week that is maybe the closest we've yet come to vintage Siskel & Ebert kinda stuff. Plus: We've both been to the theater and are happy to sound off on Ryan Coogler's latest as JMo and Hayley both greatly enjoyed Sinners in the cinema, and Justin's got a bonus theatrical field report on Drop, the latest from Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon. If you'd like to watch Dick Tracy before listening along to our conversation, good luck finding a physical copy, and Disney will seemingly never stream this thing on Disney+ -- possibly for rights reasons to avoid paying anything more to Warren Beatty, or possibly because they are cowards who are ashamed of the fun movie they made. Either way, it's tough to find outside of renting it on YouTube. Other works discussed in this episode include Creed, Fruitvale Station, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Puss In Boots: The Last Wish, Mad Max: Fury Road, Loki, The Accountant, The Perfect Storm, Bridge of Spies, War Horse, The Adventures of Tintin, Red Eye, Trap, Reign of Fire, Surrogates, The Expendables 2, The Last Boy Scout, Princess Mononoke, Hook, This Is The Tom Green Documentary, Cutthroat Island, Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, G20, The Silence of the Lambs, Longlegs, Resident Orca, Avatar: The Way of Water, Blackfish, Batman ('89), Batman Returns, Batman Forever, Batman & Robin, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, X-Men, Blade, The Shadow, The Phantom, The Rocketeer, Darkman, Speed Racer, Furiosa, Challengers and Sin City, among others. We'll be back (more than likely) next week, with another special in-theaters spectacular, as 100+ episodes after we covered the original film, it is tax season once again and we're back for more Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal in The Accountant 2. So look for that next Friday, and until then we'll see you at the movies!!
Francesca Page gives the outlook for airline stocks. “It is a perfect storm,” along with “a lot of bad luck,” she says. She thinks domestic flights are getting cheaper and companies are adding more promotions that might be enticing customers. However, with the dollar weakening, international travel might be less appealing. On the consumer side, she says insuring one's trip is “vital.” She also looks at cruise lines.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Subscribe to the Market Minute newsletter - https://schwabnetwork.com/subscribeDownload the iOS app - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/schwab-network/id1460719185Download the Amazon Fire Tv App - https://www.amazon.com/TD-Ameritrade-Network/dp/B07KRD76C7Watch on Sling - https://watch.sling.com/1/asset/191928615bd8d47686f94682aefaa007/watchWatch on Vizio - https://www.vizio.com/en/watchfreeplus-exploreWatch on DistroTV - https://www.distro.tv/live/schwab-network/Follow us on X – https://twitter.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/schwab-network/About Schwab Network - https://schwabnetwork.com/about

Today we had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Kostas Bakoyannis, Chair of the Committee on the Environment, Climate Change and Energy at the European Committee of the Regions. Kostas has served as a member of the Committee since 2020 and previously held elected roles as Mayor of Athens, Governor of Central Greece, and Mayor of Karpenisi. He brings nearly two decades of public service experience including roles at the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Parliament in Brussels, and the World Bank in Kosovo. We were thrilled to connect with Kostas for an insightful discussion on Europe's energy future, the pressures facing European industry, and how the EU is navigating today's complex geopolitical landscape. In our conversation, Kostas shares his perspective on Europe's environmental and energy policies and the challenge of balancing energy security with energy transition amidst rising geopolitical tensions. We discuss the impact of tariffs and trade relations, Europe's internal challenges regarding energy affordability, regulatory complexity, and bureaucracy, and Greece's more balanced and pragmatic energy policies. We explore the importance of interconnection and regional energy cooperation within Europe, as well as the broader geopolitical and economic implications of efforts to connect energy systems with Cyprus and Israel. Kostas offers insights into how average Greek and EU citizens experience energy and financial pressures, the limitations of EU communication, and the importance of preserving the U.S.-European alliance built after WWII. We examine how different EU countries are pursuing diverse energy mixes and the need for technological neutrality in policymaking. We touch on Europe's evolving strategy on industrial policy and tariffs, the urgency of presenting a united Western front in dealing with China, calls for increased European defense spending, and the seriousness of concurrent economic, national security, and ideological tensions. Kostas highlights Greece's economic transformation, the investment climate, lessons from local governance, the need for more flexible, innovation-friendly regulation within the EU, and more. It was a broad-based discussion and we're thankful to Kostas for sharing his time and unique insights. Mike Bradley opened by discussing that “Trumpatility” is alive and global fear is high! He noted that Trump's reciprocal tariffs are dominating global markets and that broader equity markets could still have additional downside. However, the time for panic was weeks ago when equity market volatility was low, not today, when fear is extremely high. On the broader equity market front, Trump's reciprocal tariffs haven't just affected U.S. equities (S&P 500 down 12% over last 5 trading days) but also global equity markets (down 8-12%) over the same timeframe. Investor fear is historically high with the S&P 500 Volatility Index (VIX) trading at ~55 today and as high as 60 on Monday (3rd highest VIX level of the last 30 years). The S&P 500 opened strongly on Tuesday (up 3.5%) before ending the day down just under 2.0%, which looks to be signaling that investors are “selling the bounce” rather than “buying the dip.” Investors seem inclined to “buy the dip” around the S&P's 200-day moving average of 4,675 (6-7% lower). On bonds, he pointed out that the 10yr bond yield trades at ~4.25%, which is a higher yield than it traded on Liberation Day, as traders sense the Fed could be conflicted between tariff induced price inflation and a tariff induced U.S. recession. March CPI & PPI reports due this week could influence Fed decisions, with a cooler-than-expected inflation reading possibly paving the way for interest rate cuts as early as the May 7th FOMC Meeting. In the oil market, WTI price has plunged ~$14/bbl (to $58/bbl) over the last five trading days and is now trading at Mar '21 price levels. The recent plunge in oil price was due not only to Trump

Tom Bodrovics welcomes back Keith Weiner for a discussion on the growing interest in gold as a hedge against economic instability and the risks associated with fiat currencies. Weiner highlighted that while some investors are drawn to gold due to its rising price momentum, others view it as a long-term insurance against the flaws inherent in government-backed money. He explained that governments often borrow without a clear plan to repay, leading to an unsustainable debt situation. This has led individuals and countries to seek alternatives like gold, which is seen as a stable store of value unaffected by monetary policy or political whims. Weiner also touched on the concept of "zombie credit," where corporations struggle to service their debts, particularly in the face of rising interest rates. The conversation delved into the geopolitical implications of de-dollarization and how countries are increasingly recognizing the limitations of relying solely on the US dollar for trade and reserves. Despite efforts by governments to create alternative currencies or payment systems, Weiner argued that these initiatives often fail due to a lack of trust and cohesion among nations. Additionally, Weiner discussed the impact of tariffs on global trade and their effect on debt servicing, noting how such policies can exacerbate financial instability. He also explored the differences between gold and silver markets, emphasizing that gold is more attractive to institutional investors as it offers a hedge against broader economic risks without the same level of volatility or storage challenges. Throughout the interview, Weiner emphasized the fundamental drivers behind gold's rise, including the decline in confidence in fiat currencies, the increasing debt levels globally, and the search for safe-haven assets. He concluded by noting that while gold faces short-term corrections, its long-term bullish trajectory remains intact due to ongoing structural economic issues and the relentless demand from both individual and institutional investors seeking stability amidst uncertainty. In summary, the interview underscored the role of gold as a critical hedge against an increasingly unstable financial landscape, driven by flawed monetary policies, geopolitical tensions, and the search for safe-haven assets. Most people regard gold as a dry asset, to lock away in a vault, incurring storage fees. Many are waiting for it to rise in price. Keith and Monetary Metals are on a mission to change this. Gold should once again serve to finance productive enterprises and extinguish debts. The dollar performs one of these functions, but not the other. Bitcoin cannot finance anything, as no business can borrow a currency that's expected to go up a hundred times. Gold is the one thing that fills both roles, par excellence. Keith writes and speaks extensively, based on his unique views of gold, the dollar, credit, the bond market, and interest rates. When he is not working on the business, he is developing his theory of monetary science, and an arbitrage theory of economics. Keith also serves as founder and President of the Gold Standard Institute USA. His work was instrumental in the passing of gold legal tender laws in the state of Arizona in ...
