Julian Kheel, CEO and founder of Tripsight and Points Path, joins Megan Lynch, as air controllers dealt with issues last week at Newark Liberty International Airport. Kheel says the air traffic feed including both radio and radar between the Newark airport and their new remote operations location in Philadelphia was lost for about 90-seconds at one point last week, while planes continued to land & take off.
This week, we're busting out the slammer and potentially wishing we were back in it depending on who you ask, as we team up with the canary-clad copper to take down a star-studded mob in a wildly stylish and outlandishly conceived blockbuster starring a charming old man incapable of doing action scenes, that's been seemingly buried in the Disney vault in the years since. It's 1990's Dick Tracy, directed and produced by Warren Beatty, and starring Beatty, Madonna, Al Pacino, Glenne Headly, Charlie Korsmo, Mandy Patinkin, Dustin Hoffman, Seymour Cassel, William Forsythe, Charles Durning, Dick Van Dyke, Paul Sorvino, James Caan, Kathy Bates and Catherine O'Hara. Most of these stars are unrecognizeable under the monstrous makeup required to make them look like their vintage crime comic strip counterparts, but Pacino made enough of an impression with a wildly comedic take on his typical mobster persona that he netted an Oscar nom for Best Supporting Actor, losing to Joe Pesci for GoodFellas. While Beatty is at least a decade too old to be proper fit as the movie's lead, it's his ambition behind the camera that makes the movie such a curiosity all these years later, as the film is either an enchanting dreamscape filled with unsolvable How Did They Do That movie magic puzzles, or a steaming pile of neon-drenched puke depending on which of our two hosts you ask. But that's okay, as we have some heated disagreement this week that is maybe the closest we've yet come to vintage Siskel & Ebert kinda stuff. Plus: We've both been to the theater and are happy to sound off on Ryan Coogler's latest as JMo and Hayley both greatly enjoyed Sinners in the cinema, and Justin's got a bonus theatrical field report on Drop, the latest from Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon. If you'd like to watch Dick Tracy before listening along to our conversation, good luck finding a physical copy, and Disney will seemingly never stream this thing on Disney+ -- possibly for rights reasons to avoid paying anything more to Warren Beatty, or possibly because they are cowards who are ashamed of the fun movie they made. Either way, it's tough to find outside of renting it on YouTube. Other works discussed in this episode include Creed, Fruitvale Station, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Puss In Boots: The Last Wish, Mad Max: Fury Road, Loki, The Accountant, The Perfect Storm, Bridge of Spies, War Horse, The Adventures of Tintin, Red Eye, Trap, Reign of Fire, Surrogates, The Expendables 2, The Last Boy Scout, Princess Mononoke, Hook, This Is The Tom Green Documentary, Cutthroat Island, Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, G20, The Silence of the Lambs, Longlegs, Resident Orca, Avatar: The Way of Water, Blackfish, Batman ('89), Batman Returns, Batman Forever, Batman & Robin, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, X-Men, Blade, The Shadow, The Phantom, The Rocketeer, Darkman, Speed Racer, Furiosa, Challengers and Sin City, among others. We'll be back (more than likely) next week, with another special in-theaters spectacular, as 100+ episodes after we covered the original film, it is tax season once again and we're back for more Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal in The Accountant 2. So look for that next Friday, and until then we'll see you at the movies!!
The winds of change are sweeping through Sydney's property scene, creating what seasoned agents are calling "the perfect storm" for apartment investments. This eye-opening discussion reveals why now might be the most opportune moment in three decades to invest in units, particularly in established suburbs like Dee Why.Drawing from real client experiences, we explore how the apartment market has weathered recent challenges and why current indicators point to extraordinary growth potential. While many investors have seen modest returns over the past three years, the underlying market fundamentals are shifting dramatically in favor of unit owners. What's truly remarkable is the severe supply constraint now gripping Sydney. Across the Northern Beaches' 100,000 dwellings, only 434 rental properties are available – a historically low figure. Dee Why itself has just 36 rentals among its 11,000 homes. This scarcity exists because we're experiencing what experts describe as "a building freeze, not a building frenzy." Rising construction costs and increasingly complex compliance requirements mean developers simply can't make projects stack up financially.Meanwhile, the Big Four banks forecast interest rates dropping from 4.1% to potentially as low as 2.6% through multiple cuts. Combine this with steadily increasing rents, particularly for properties with modern amenities, and you have a textbook environment for capital growth. As one expert succinctly puts it, "Supply is the enemy of capital growth" – and supply isn't coming anytime soon.Perhaps most telling is that property values remained relatively stable even as interest rates tripled in recent years. Now imagine what happens when those same rates begin falling while rents continue climbing. For first-home buyers and investors alike, this rare alignment of market forces represents an opportunity that, according to agents with 30+ years of experience, simply hasn't existed in decades. Francesca Page gives the outlook for airline stocks. “It is a perfect storm,” along with “a lot of bad luck,” she says. She thinks domestic flights are getting cheaper and companies are adding more promotions that might be enticing customers. However, with the dollar weakening, international travel might be less appealing. On the consumer side, she says insuring one's trip is “vital.” She also looks at cruise lines.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Subscribe to the Market Minute newsletter - https://schwabnetwork.com/subscribeDownload the iOS app - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/schwab-network/id1460719185Download the Amazon Fire Tv App - https://www.amazon.com/TD-Ameritrade-Network/dp/B07KRD76C7Watch on Sling - https://watch.sling.com/1/asset/191928615bd8d47686f94682aefaa007/watchWatch on Vizio - https://www.vizio.com/en/watchfreeplus-exploreWatch on DistroTV - https://www.distro.tv/live/schwab-network/Follow us on X – https://twitter.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/schwab-network/About Schwab Network - https://schwabnetwork.com/about

Today we had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Kostas Bakoyannis, Chair of the Committee on the Environment, Climate Change and Energy at the European Committee of the Regions. Kostas has served as a member of the Committee since 2020 and previously held elected roles as Mayor of Athens, Governor of Central Greece, and Mayor of Karpenisi. He brings nearly two decades of public service experience including roles at the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Parliament in Brussels, and the World Bank in Kosovo. We were thrilled to connect with Kostas for an insightful discussion on Europe's energy future, the pressures facing European industry, and how the EU is navigating today's complex geopolitical landscape. In our conversation, Kostas shares his perspective on Europe's environmental and energy policies and the challenge of balancing energy security with energy transition amidst rising geopolitical tensions. We discuss the impact of tariffs and trade relations, Europe's internal challenges regarding energy affordability, regulatory complexity, and bureaucracy, and Greece's more balanced and pragmatic energy policies. We explore the importance of interconnection and regional energy cooperation within Europe, as well as the broader geopolitical and economic implications of efforts to connect energy systems with Cyprus and Israel. Kostas offers insights into how average Greek and EU citizens experience energy and financial pressures, the limitations of EU communication, and the importance of preserving the U.S.-European alliance built after WWII. We examine how different EU countries are pursuing diverse energy mixes and the need for technological neutrality in policymaking. We touch on Europe's evolving strategy on industrial policy and tariffs, the urgency of presenting a united Western front in dealing with China, calls for increased European defense spending, and the seriousness of concurrent economic, national security, and ideological tensions. Kostas highlights Greece's economic transformation, the investment climate, lessons from local governance, the need for more flexible, innovation-friendly regulation within the EU, and more. It was a broad-based discussion and we're thankful to Kostas for sharing his time and unique insights. Mike Bradley opened by discussing that “Trumpatility” is alive and global fear is high! He noted that Trump's reciprocal tariffs are dominating global markets and that broader equity markets could still have additional downside. However, the time for panic was weeks ago when equity market volatility was low, not today, when fear is extremely high. On the broader equity market front, Trump's reciprocal tariffs haven't just affected U.S. equities (S&P 500 down 12% over last 5 trading days) but also global equity markets (down 8-12%) over the same timeframe. Investor fear is historically high with the S&P 500 Volatility Index (VIX) trading at ~55 today and as high as 60 on Monday (3rd highest VIX level of the last 30 years). The S&P 500 opened strongly on Tuesday (up 3.5%) before ending the day down just under 2.0%, which looks to be signaling that investors are “selling the bounce” rather than “buying the dip.” Investors seem inclined to “buy the dip” around the S&P's 200-day moving average of 4,675 (6-7% lower). On bonds, he pointed out that the 10yr bond yield trades at ~4.25%, which is a higher yield than it traded on Liberation Day, as traders sense the Fed could be conflicted between tariff induced price inflation and a tariff induced U.S. recession. March CPI & PPI reports due this week could influence Fed decisions, with a cooler-than-expected inflation reading possibly paving the way for interest rate cuts as early as the May 7th FOMC Meeting. In the oil market, WTI price has plunged ~$14/bbl (to $58/bbl) over the last five trading days and is now trading at Mar '21 price levels. The recent plunge in oil price was due not only to Trump

Tom Bodrovics welcomes back Keith Weiner for a discussion on the growing interest in gold as a hedge against economic instability and the risks associated with fiat currencies. Weiner highlighted that while some investors are drawn to gold due to its rising price momentum, others view it as a long-term insurance against the flaws inherent in government-backed money. He explained that governments often borrow without a clear plan to repay, leading to an unsustainable debt situation. This has led individuals and countries to seek alternatives like gold, which is seen as a stable store of value unaffected by monetary policy or political whims. Weiner also touched on the concept of "zombie credit," where corporations struggle to service their debts, particularly in the face of rising interest rates. The conversation delved into the geopolitical implications of de-dollarization and how countries are increasingly recognizing the limitations of relying solely on the US dollar for trade and reserves. Despite efforts by governments to create alternative currencies or payment systems, Weiner argued that these initiatives often fail due to a lack of trust and cohesion among nations. Additionally, Weiner discussed the impact of tariffs on global trade and their effect on debt servicing, noting how such policies can exacerbate financial instability. He also explored the differences between gold and silver markets, emphasizing that gold is more attractive to institutional investors as it offers a hedge against broader economic risks without the same level of volatility or storage challenges. Throughout the interview, Weiner emphasized the fundamental drivers behind gold's rise, including the decline in confidence in fiat currencies, the increasing debt levels globally, and the search for safe-haven assets. He concluded by noting that while gold faces short-term corrections, its long-term bullish trajectory remains intact due to ongoing structural economic issues and the relentless demand from both individual and institutional investors seeking stability amidst uncertainty. In summary, the interview underscored the role of gold as a critical hedge against an increasingly unstable financial landscape, driven by flawed monetary policies, geopolitical tensions, and the search for safe-haven assets. Most people regard gold as a dry asset, to lock away in a vault, incurring storage fees. Many are waiting for it to rise in price. Keith and Monetary Metals are on a mission to change this. Gold should once again serve to finance productive enterprises and extinguish debts. The dollar performs one of these functions, but not the other. Bitcoin cannot finance anything, as no business can borrow a currency that's expected to go up a hundred times. Gold is the one thing that fills both roles, par excellence. Keith writes and speaks extensively, based on his unique views of gold, the dollar, credit, the bond market, and interest rates. Established brands are getting bent over by the upstart Chinese brands, money is tight. And now there's an election in five weeks (on May 3). There really hasn't been a better time in years to stride purposefully into a dealership and negotiate as hard as you can. Sebastian Junger is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Perfect Storm, Fire, A Death in Belmont, War, Tribe, Freedom, and In My Time of Dying, as well as an award-winning journalist, documentary filmmaker, and, perhaps most impressively, highly accomplished distance runner. A collegiate athlete at Wesleyan University in the early 1980s, Junger has run 3:55 for 1500 meters and 2:21 for the marathon. In this conversation, we talk about his background in running as well as how it's shaped his identity and framed his perspective on writing and life. We also discuss how his relationship to running has evolved over the years, the parallels between competitive running and being in combat — "There's nothing like fear and exhaustion to wipe out your ego," he explains — how he got his start as a journalist and eventually author, the race he's spent his entire life training for, and a lot more. This episode is brought to you by: — Tracksmith, New Balance, Precision Fuel & Hydration, and Final Surge. In my coaching throughout the years to want to be and even experienced radio people, I often said, if you can just help one person that is good and your program may have been just for them. Of course that goes against the traditional teaching which says the being on the radio and on the air is to attract as many listeners or viewers or people that you can. That's nice if you can do that then of course you have to do that from time to time just to make it worthwhile and to make the money you need to be on the radio. But maybe just letting you know about the difficult weeks that I've had of a perfect storm of life's stuff just might be helpful to a few of you today. Please give me 12 minutes and we'll see if we can do that! And after doing the program I decided to give STOSH my radio robot friend the program for him to make a summary and this is what he came up with... Surviving the Perfect Storm of Life's Challenges Life has a way of throwing unexpected storms our way—sometimes a perfect storm of challenges that test our patience, resilience, and ability to adapt. Recently, I found myself navigating such a storm, and I want to share my experience in the hope that it might help someone else facing similar struggles. It started with an ambitious attempt to upgrade and expand my broadcasting capabilities. As part of my work with What It Takes Radio, I've been making significant updates to our software systems to enhance our radio and television outreach worldwide. Those of you who have ever worked with technology know how fickle it can be—integrating new and old systems, making things work seamlessly, and then finding out that, despite your best efforts, something inevitably goes wrong. It was frustrating, time-consuming, and costly. But just as I was working through those challenges, life threw me another curveball. One morning after my usual mile-and-a-half walk, I noticed a strange, dull ache in my chest. I brushed it off, thinking it was nothing. But by the next day, it hadn't gone away, and by the weekend, it had worsened. A rash appeared, and soon, I had my diagnosis: shingles. If you've ever had shingles, you know it's no minor inconvenience. The pain, discomfort, and disruption it causes are significant. It completely derailed my week and forced me to slow down and focus on healing. And here's the kicker—I had never gotten the shingles vaccine. I had assumed I didn't need it, and now, I was paying the price. Through all of this—the software struggles, the health scare, the forced downtime—I found myself wrestling with bigger questions. What is life really about? How should we be adapting to the rapid changes in technology, society, and even our own personal health? How do we continue to grow and evolve without getting overwhelmed by everything coming at us? Lessons from the Storm Delegate Everything but Your Genius – When technology fails or we hit a wall, we don't have to go it alone. Asking for help from those with expertise can make all the difference. I found skilled people to assist with my software issues, and with their help, we got everything up and running again. Health is Non-Negotiable – If I could go back in time, I would have gotten the shingles vaccine without hesitation. We often put off preventative health measures because we don't think we need them—until we do. If you haven't gotten your vaccine, I strongly encourage you to consider it. Embrace Change, Even When It's Uncomfortable – Technology is advancing at an unprecedented rate. Those who refuse to adapt will find themselves left behind. I recently had to tell a colleague that their outdated communication methods were holding them back. It's a tough conversation, but necessary. Use Challenges as a Time for Reflection – My illness forced me to slow down. Instead of fighting it, I used that time to think, pray, and strategize. Sometimes, life forces us to pause, and instead of seeing it as an obstacle, we can embrace it as an opportunity for clarity. Develop Signature Statements – In the age of branding, having key phrases or statements that define who you are and what you stand for is crucial. Looking back at my old notes, I realized I had several signature statements that I had forgotten. Now, I'm refining them and preparing to share them in an upcoming class. Moving Forward with Purpose Life's storms will come—whether in the form of technical failures, health scares, or existential crises. But how we respond to them defines us. If there's something you've been putting off—whether it's a health decision, a technological upgrade, or a personal transformation—consider this your sign to take action. We don't always get second chances, and preparation is the best defense against life's inevitable challenges. Most importantly, let's help each other. If you know someone who might benefit from a word of encouragement or practical advice, reach out to them today. A small act of kindness, a shared resource, or simply a listening ear can make all the difference. As I sign off, I'm reminded that resilience isn't about never facing difficulties—it's about facing them with wisdom, courage, and the willingness to keep moving forward. Until next time, best and blessings to you all. - Stan the Radio Man
About Susan Inouye:Susan is an executive coach, bestselling author, and co-founder of Sawubona Leadership. With a two-decade career transforming over 600 companies, she's renowned for integrating millennial insights into corporate strategy. Her bestselling book, "Leadership's Perfect Storm," explores how millennials redefine leadership through possibilities, passion, and purpose. Recognized as one of the “Top 10 Inspiring Women Rocking the Global Business World,” Susan's work fosters inclusive cultures globally under Sawubona Leadership, celebrating individual gifts and uniting generations. In this episode, Dean Newlund and Susan Inouye discuss:A gift-centered leadership approach in organizationsBridging the gap between millennials and older generations in corporate environmentsSomatic practices for leadershipThe power of community in leadership The ‘Sawubona' leadership approach Key Takeaways:When leaders rely too heavily on their natural gifts (e.g., planning, high standards), those strengths can become weaknesses, such as micromanagement or resistance to adaptability. Learning to integrate the "opposite" trait fosters balance.Intellectual insights alone do not create lasting change; leaders must embody new behaviors through physical experiences, such as slowing down through Tai Chi or building confidence through martial arts.Companies that implemented the "Sawubona" approach saw significant financial and cultural improvements, with some increasing profitability by 50% in just six months.Sustainable change in leadership starts with a few committed individuals who embody transformation, creating a ripple effect that reshapes organizational culture. Welcome to the sleep revolution. More than ever experts know how SLEEP defines the health of cognitive function, emotional regulation, social interaction... for everyone... but most especially teenagers!Sleep-deprived teens often struggle with moodiness, risky behaviors, relational skills and even academics due to being forced to operate on insufficient sleep. The cascade of poor sleep can result in what Dr. Skinner refers to as "ego depletion," leaving teens incapable of functioning at their best, or even just adequately. Are our teenagers being rebellious or lazy, or is there more to the story? Dr. Meers enlightens us on the biological changes that occur during adolescence, which can account for those infamous late nights and groggy mornings. Maybe their disengagement isn't just teenage defiance— maybe our kids are exhausted! In this fascinating episode, renowned clinical psychologist and certified sleep medicine specialist, Dr. Jessica Meers, uncovers the hidden intricacies of sleep, focusing on the enigmatic and often elusive sleep patterns of teenagers—a topic more vital to their well-being than we might think.Join us to find out how better sleep for our kids and teens is possible, today on Finding Noble. Thirty years ago this month, acclaimed director Wolfgang Petersen (Das Boot, Air Force One, The Perfect Storm) gave us a terrifying viral thriller which at the time MIGHT have seemed like pure fiction....but WAS it? :o Well regardless it was a big hit and featured a stacked cast featuring Oscar-winners Dustin Hoffman, Morgan Freeman, Kevin Spacey, and Cuba Gooding Jr plus Rene Russo and the late, great Donald Sutherland. (How did those last two never receive Oscar nominations??) A brand new deadly virus has travelled from overseas via an innocent monkey who stowed away on a shipping barge....and that monkey has landed in Southern California....and this virus has started to spread around one truly unfortunate isolated small town. People are dying as the virus mutates and the only folks who can stop it are a team of Army doctors who have to figure out how to find a cure. It's all very '90's though very scary nonetheless....and remember to wash your hands! What better way to decompress from a week of chaos and unrest than to watch a woman with more Birkins than sense dramatically lament a situation she created?
