An van.

Justin and Bec give their reactions to watching Disney's live action remake of the 2002 animated classic "Lilo and Stitch," which prominently featured Elvis's music. The remake does, too, so we primarily center our discussion initially around how Elvis is used; but since Bec had never seen the original before, she gave it a watch after having gone to see the reworking in theatres, and the duo compare notes on things that were different, what worked and what didn't. For Song of the Week, since the "Blue Hawaii" album is seen prominently in the new "Lilo and Stitch", both hosts decided to pick songs from the 1961 classic, with Justin first picking "Ku-U-I-Po," the ballad also written by "Can't Help Falling in Love" cowriters Peretti-Creatore-Weiss for "Blue Hawaii." Bec then dives headfirst into the multi-faceted history behind "Aloha Oe," the traditional Hawaiian song penned by the last Queen of Hawai'i, Liliʻuokalani, and its double meaning as both a simple romantic farewell as well as symbolizing the loss of indigenous sovereignty. This prompts further discussion on how the song is used in "Blue Hawaii" and in both versions of "Lilo and Stitch," bringing the whole thing together. Be warned - if you haven't made it out to see the movie, this whole episode contains numerous spoilers for both the 2002 and 2025 versions of "Lilo and Stitch." If you enjoy TCBCast, please consider supporting us with a donation at Patreon.com/TCBCast. Your support allows us to continue to provide thoughtful, provocative, challenging and well-researched perspectives on Elvis's career, his peers and influences, and his cultural impact and legacy.
Based on the encouragement of a GQ article from 2016, Kerry and Collin took a look back at “Bridget Jones's Diary” to see if the writer of said article had been onto something. That led them to go back and rewatch all of the “Bridget Jones” movies including the latest, which just came out on blu-ray. What/who is the Bridget Jones of today? How would we rank the boyfriends/fiancees in the entire series? Did “Bridget Jones's Diary” kickstart the “ugly sweater” craze that started in the early 2000s? All this, plus a jam-packed Blu-ray Gift Exchange. Blu-rays covered: Focus/Universal: “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy” “Black Bag” (2025) Ignite: “Re-Animator” 40th Anniversary 4K (1985) Criterion: “The Three Musketeers” / “The Four Musketeers” 4K (1973-74) “The Umbrellas Of Cherbourg” 4K (1964) “Room 666” / “Room 999” (1982 - 2023) Warner Archive: “Clean and Sober” (1988) “Lean On Me” (1989) “Rhapsody In Blue” (1934) “Three The Hard Way” (1974) “Lili” (1953) Warner Bros / HBO: “Mr. Show: The Complete Series”

Author Michele Wong McSween is here for AAPIHM to discuss her children's book series, Gordon & Li Li, the challenges of trying to learn Mandarin later in life, and reconnecting to her culture. More about Michele:She s a former fashion designer and creator of Gordon & Li Li. She is a native Californian, but has lived in New York City for the past 23 years. She currently lives in Williamsburg, Brooklyn with her husband and three boys.Growing up as a fourth generation Chinese-American, Michele never learned to speak Chinese, so making sure her own boys were exposed to the language and culture became a priority for her. After enrolling them in early-learning Mandarin classes, Michele looked for first word Mandarin books that were easy to read, engaging, modern, and most importantly, were books that they'd want to cuddle up with at bedtime. When Michele realized what she wanted didn't exist, she created Gordon & Li Li to introduce her children to the joy of learning Mandarin Chinese and to foster a deep appreciation for their heritage and culture.

This two-part series is all about Lili'uokalani, the first and last queen of the Kingdom of Hawai'i. In part one, Lili'uokalani came of age in the Hawaiian court and supported her brother when he became king. Now, as queen, she's set on becoming the ruler that Hawaiians really need – while she fights the men trying to steal her home, and her crown.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

In part one of this two-part series, Lili'uokalani is named as heir to the throne – and all of the problems that come with it. When foreigners start to snatch pieces of the Hawaiian kingdom for themselves, she refuses to stay silent.
