I interviewed Sister Sylvester about Constantinopoliad on Friday, September 12, 2025 at Venice Immersive in Venice, Italy. Here is the story synopsis for Constantinopoliad: "Constantinopoliad is a collective reading and audio work. A response to the archive of the poet Constantine Cavafy, the story is inspired by the blank and torn-out pages in Constantinopoliad, an Epic, the journal the teenage Cavafy began when he and his family fled Alexandria; by lost and missing queer archives through time; and by the ghosts, both erotic and historical, that visit the older Cavafy in his poems." Here are the contextual domains that are explored: The exploration of identity [1] as a person has moved from his home [4], and into a distant land [9] with some feelingsof being exiled [12], but also the implication of homosexuality [5] within the context of having to remain hidden or taboo [12]. It's dipping into the vast archive [9] of Cavafy's expressions of identity [1] and poetry and art [5], and recontextualizing as these universal experiences that are still very much relevant today [9]. Here is the Elemental Center of Gravity: 1st Center of Gravity of Air Element / Mental and Social Presence: collaboratively reading together - narrative distillation of an archive. You listening to the audio narration, but you have to negotiate how to co-read this "book" object together. The form of this "book" also deviates from normal book where it is part pop-up book, but also a flat stage to be explored with the other person. This externalized book becomes a bit of an abstracted theatrical stage for the story as it unfolds, but there are also more explicitly architectural elements to this "book" object as well. The piece also creates an implicit invitation to connect and talk with your audience partner afterwards about the piece2nd Center of Gravity of Water Element / Emotional Presence: AMAZING MUSIC + time-based narration + lighting. There's some amazing synchrony between the music, the timing of the reading, as well as the lighting. It really gives a strong sense of time. The reading of the story almost feels like a narrative podcast of sorts, but is mostly a matter of convenience of recording of the live performance so that it could be toured at immersive festivals without the burden of paying for all of the performers and musicians.3rd Center of Gravity of Earth Element / Environmental and Embodied Presence: Book like object as an architectural artifact, and has a whole spatial journey. The installation also had tables with lighting effects, but also there were projctions that were happening within the space as well. Most of the focus of spatial experience happens within the context of the architectural nature of the "book" object, but the other theatrical elements of the environment definitely help to cultivate an overall mood.4th Center of Gravity of Fire Element / Active Presence: Explore the story through various interactions. There's no narrative agency per se, although one could deviate from directly reading along with the text. There's an implicit contract to stay on course with your actions since you're negotiating the experience with another person. Archetypal Themes and Character Explored: Exploration of the "lost and missing queer archives through time; and by the ghosts, both erotic and historical, that visit the older Cavafy in his poems" Artist Statement: "My favorite response to this work was an audience member who described it as 'making love to a stranger through a book'. The work invites audiences into a sensual and concrete encounter with Cavafy's life and poems: fingers making contact with history; illumination revealing images from between the pages; sounds conjuring the ghosts of 19th century Alexandrian cabarets. With words by sister sylvester, score by Nadah El Shazly, and illustrations by Efrîn Özyetis, Constantinopoliad is a multi-sensory encounter with the past, and with forgotten stories that can haunt us into new imaginings for the present." Here is the story synopsis for LILI: "In an Iranian city, Lili, the lonely wife of a militia commander, plots a murder to secure her husband's rise within a corrupt regime. But when the killing unhinges the order of things, she is drawn into a network of deep web hackers — modern-day witches — who weaponise hidden truth. This stylised neo-noir game adaptation of Macbeth unfolds through smartphones, computer screens, and deep-state surveillance, immersing players as hackers in the oppressive surveillance state." Here are the contextual domains that are explored: Embody Hacker within the Surveillance State [12] context of an athoritarian government [10] as you watch someone in their home [4], and you're doing this through a computer and communications technology device [3]. There are some different endings, or at least a follow-up QR code to learn more about the identity of either being a rebel or enforcing the authoritarian rule. The primary mode of instruction comes via a chat window as you get clues for various puzzles that you have to solve. You face some mental friction with each puzzle, but then are rewarded with the progression of the story. There's also the symbolic connections and parallels to Shakespeare's MacBeth to add additional contextualization for how this story might adapt to the context of the authoritarian regime within Iran Archetypal Themes and Character Explored: Authoritarian tendancies as well as control "challenges them to question power, control, and complicity." After the film, the experience continues and the audience enters the world of Asteroid when they receive an SOS from one of the characters, DK Metcalf, who was left for dead. The viewer becomes a player when they are invited to aid in DK's rescue. Through speaking with an AI-generated version of DK — played by the NFL player as himself — the user determines the truth about what happened on the asteroid and sends his exact location to NASA for rescue." Piše Vid Bešter, bere Jure Franko. Borut Kraševec nam že na prvih straneh svojega drugega romana Dan spomina daje vedeti, da meri visoko. Vse bo stalo, kot je treba, napove, ko pred nami metodično in kot po pravilu razlaga elemente romana … Prav vse, kar položi pred nas, podaja kakšno informacijo ali pa draži s še neznanim razpletom. Nič ni odveč ‒ in vse je polno sladkih bralskih obetov! Še največja draž za bralca pa je morda prav vprašanje, ali bo roman v svoji ambiciji uspel? Ali bo čehovovska pištola ustrelila? Dan spomina se dogaja v poznih tridesetih letih 20. stoletja. Prvi del v podeželski graščini, ki je že videla boljše čase, drugi pa v Ljubljani. Osrednji lik je Dušan ‒ bivši primorski zdravnik, ki je pred fašizmom zbežal v Jugoslavijo. Službo dramaturga in prevajalca mu je preskrbel tast, stanovanje na Rimski ulici tašča, preglavice pa mu povzroča žena Lili, ki ni le bolj literarno nadarjena od njega, ampak je tudi alkoholičarka. Prav to je povod, da se Dušan na začetku romana odpravi v odročno graščino Lilijine sestrične Eme, kjer se pred posledicami svoje finančne nesposobnosti skriva njegov tast Tine. Zasnova je torej zavestno klasična: liki se ‒ tako ali drugače ‒ zberejo v od sveta malce oddaljenem salonu, kjer bodo njihovih odnosi dani na preizkušnjo in ogled. Ali pa bo morda kdo umorjen? Poleg Dušana in njegovega tasta so med obiskovalci in gosti graščine še en primorski begunec, komunist in tihotapec Dino, kapitalist Kraljič, ki snubi gospodarico, ter njena sestra, propadla pianistka Karmina, ki se je vrnila z Dunaja. Kmalu se jim pridružita še Lili in njena mama Vida, premožna in ugledna ljubljanska gospodarstvenica. Vsak ima seveda kakšno umazano skrivnost ali kak nečasten up, ki ga skriva pred drugimi, pred sabo in pred nami. Pripovedovalec je tretjeoseben, a ne povsem odkrit. Malo zato, ker vedno privzema perspektivo kakega lika, predvsem pa, ker rad kaj zamolči. Sprva si bralec marsikaj obeta: toliko namigov in skrivnosti je vsepovsod! Seksualnost na primer ni prav nič prikrita, pogosto je nazorno opisana ‒ a aferici, ki si jo privoščita od žene odtujeni Dušan in od nacističnega moža ločena Karmina, nismo neposredno priče. Tudi druge bolj ali manj hvalevredne strasti, misli in dejanja so včasih odkrito priznana, drugič pa nanje le namigujejo besede ali okoliščine. Kraševcu je očitno všeč, če nas za trenutek zmede s spremembo pripovedne ravni, perspektive ali časovnim preskokom. Besede, misli in podobe s konca enega poglavja pogosto odzvanjajo v začetku naslednjega, nakar se izkaže, da se pripoved pravzaprav nadaljuje nekje drugje. Podobno se znotraj poglavij stapljajo in rimajo sanje z budnostjo in spomini s sedanjostjo likov. Morda bi se komu lahko zazdelo, da pisatelj ni vešč svoje obrti, a je očitno, da bralce namerno mede ‒ saj je sicer zelo pozoren, da nam nudi oporo in nas vztrajno opozarja na čas in kraj dogajanja, na relevantne podatke iz biografije likov ter odnose med njimi. Tudi to bi utegnil kdo kritizirati, češ da pisatelj bralca preveč previdno vodi za roko. Sam bi mu raje poočital, da se morda vseeno malo preveč postavlja z obvladovanjem pripovedniških trikov. Že kar nekoliko objesten je, ko nam vedno znova prikazuje, da zlahka in z eleganco upošteva in krši vsa pravila klasične romaneskne pripovedi. Seveda ima roman Dan spomina temu primerno visokoleteče vsebinske ambicije. Številne omembe in namigi na klasično književnost ‒ še posebej izstopata Balzac in Čehov ‒ je treba morda razumeti kot naznanitev merila, s katerim naj bralci roman ocenjujemo. Tematsko je roman precej širok. Varanja in skrite strasti se dogajajo na apokaliptični kulisi španske državljanske vojne, fašizma in anšlusa. Osrednja tema pa je Dušanovo izogibanje vedno bolj vsiljivemu svetu ‒ njegovo umikanje v zasebnost in vztrajanje, da hoče biti umetnik. Odlašanja in izmikanja je v romanu zelo veliko. Ves čas čakamo, da se bodo karte premešale … pa se kar nekako ne. Vsaj ne zares. Samo skoraj. Kolikor bližje smo koncu, očitneje je, da bo ta skoraj tudi ostal tematsko središče romana. Kraševec svojim likom ni posebno naklonjen. Vsi po vrsti so neprijetni, v kakšnem trenutku celo odurni ljudje. Še najhuje je z Lili in Dušanom. Lili je na začetku romana alkoholičarka, v drugi polovici pa telesno poškodovana in duševno strta. Kadar je opisana, prevladuje nelagodna, odbijajoča fizičnost. Predstavljena je skoraj kot stereotip ženske: samo telo in afekt. Dušan ni na drugi strani nič boljši ‒ njega sta sama duševnost in intelekt. Ta preizrazita duševnost si zamišlja na primer Lilijin umor in se izprijeno veseli njene nesreče in pohabljenosti, ker mu je končno omogočila pisati. V romanu je ustvarjalnost mogoča samo za ceno izrabe in morda celo zlorabe človekovega trpljenja in nesreče ‒ še najbolj lastnega. Ne le za Dušana, to verjamejo tudi drugi liki. Lilijin veliki talent je na primer plačan s ceno otroških in mladostnih bolj ali in manj prostovoljnih srečevanj s spolnostjo. Taka teorija ustvarjalnosti zveni nekoliko zastarelo, zastavlja pa tudi vprašanje, ali vanjo verjamejo le liki ali jo predpostavlja tudi roman. Podobno se moramo vprašati tudi glede Dušanove apolitičnosti ‒ njegovega skrivanja pred svetom in zavračanja pozivov k dejanju. Roman se konča na točki, ki daje slutiti, da to izogibanje ne bo moglo trajati večno. Čas se izteka ‒ vojna je navsezadnje vse bliže. Toda kakšno stališče ima Dan spomina do Dušanove neodločnosti in grozeče odločitve? Na zadnji strani se zdi, da se je roman končal prehitro ‒ še preden bi se usode dovršile, napetosti razrešile, odločitve sprejele. K občutku nezaključenosti doda še to, da se uvodno poglavje ‒ ki je pravzaprav bolj nekakšna magično-realistična črtica ‒ ne stakne z ničemer konkretnim v romanu. Tako na koncu deluje kot še ena nerazrešena skrivnost, o pomenu katere lahko z več ali manj užitka le ugibamo. Avtor bi se utegnil zagovarjati, da je roman takšen, ker je takšno pač življenje, ki mu je želel ostati zvest. Da je bila tudi pištola, ko je nazadnje ustrelila, nabita s slepimi naboji, v rokah pa jo je imela skoraj slepa Lili, ki ni mogla niti dobro nameriti … Strel, ki smo ga nestrpno čakali in pred njim trepetali, je bil strel v prazno. Takšna pa so pravzaprav tudi prizadevanja in življenja likov in se bodo tako tudi še in še nadaljevala … Vendar pa po drugi strani roman Dan spomina ves čas vztraja, da življenje, dejavnost in politika nimajo enakih pravil kot umetnost, kot literatura. Pisatelj ima torej nekoliko bolj omejene izbire in možnosti kot življenje. Ni pomembno samo, ali pištola ustreli ali ne ustreli ‒ pomembno je tudi, da zadene.

Wyznawcy Jezusa, tworzący chrześcijaństwo w pierwszych wiekach po Chrystusie, mieli silne kontakty z kulturą irańską i inspirowali się wierzeniami Persów, co znajduje odzwierciedlenie w Nowym Testamencie. Z prof. Niesiołowskim-Spanò rozmawiamy także o historycznym Jezusie, próbując umiejscowić tę postać na mapie frakcji żydowskich jego czasów. Zdaniem naszego gościa Jezus z Nazaretu nie był – jak się często uważa – esseńczykiem. Nie był także ubogim człowiekiem z ludu. Zdaniem prof. Alors que l'Europe et la France en particulier traversent une période de canicule sans précédent, dans des pays déjà habitués aux fortes chaleurs, on tente également de s'adapter au réchauffement climatique. C'est notamment le cas de la ville de Sydney, en Australie, où l'un des moyens envisagés pour faire baisser la température, c'est d'aménager des voies vertes, autrement dit, des pistes cyclables couvertes par des arbres, pour relier entre eux les différents quartiers d'une ville qui reste essentiellement pensée pour l'automobile. Loin de seulement apporter du confort et de la fraîcheur aux habitants, ces voies vertes pourraient également réduire les dépenses de santé de plusieurs centaines de millions d'euros par an.  De notre correspondant à Sydney, Et si le secret, pour survivre dans une jungle de béton, c'était de planter des arbres ? Ce ne sont en tout cas pas les utilisateurs de la Inner West Greenway, une voie verte de 6 km ouverte en décembre dernier, presque entièrement abritée sous des arbres, qui longe d'anciennes canalisations, qui diront le contraire. Alors que l'Europe et la France en particulier traversent une période de canicule sans précédent, dans des pays déjà habitués aux fortes chaleurs, on tente également de s'adapter au réchauffement climatique. C'est notamment le cas de la ville de Sydney, en Australie, où l'un des moyens envisagés pour faire baisser la température, c'est d'aménager des voies vertes, autrement dit, des pistes cyclables couvertes par des arbres, pour relier entre eux les différents quartiers d'une ville qui reste essentiellement pensée pour l'automobile. Loin de seulement apporter du confort et de la fraîcheur aux habitants, ces voies vertes pourraient également réduire les dépenses de santé de plusieurs centaines de millions d'euros par an.  De notre correspondant à Sydney, Et si le secret, pour survivre dans une jungle de béton, c'était de planter des arbres ? Ce ne sont en tout cas pas les utilisateurs de la Inner West Greenway, une voie verte de 6 km ouverte en décembre dernier, presque entièrement abritée sous des arbres, qui longe d'anciennes canalisations, qui diront le contraire. Following the attack, Lorena fled the house in her car and eventually pulled over to the side of the road to call 911 and report the incident, at which time she was arrested. Though salacious, this incident of domestic violence would likely have gone unnoticed by the rest of the American public; however, at the time, debates about domestic violence and marital rape were raging and the Bobbitt case came to serve as an example of the consequences and effects of that violence, for arguments on both sides. Lili Hellriegel is head of enterprise solutions at Cherry Servers, a Lithuania-based bare metal cloud provider that pitches itself as a sovereign, Web3-friendly alternative to the US hyperscalers. Before joining Cherry, Lili was head of infrastructure at staking firm Blockdaemon, where she built out data center partnerships, network architecture and the server specs behind validation workloads — work that left her unusually fluent in what crypto teams actually need from their infrastructure. Why you should listen The pitch for European infrastructure has rarely been louder, and Lili makes the case with the confidence of someone who has lived on both sides of it. Every major hyperscaler — AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, even Oracle — is a US company, and for a growing cohort of Web3 teams that is no longer a neutral fact. Cherry Servers sits under European jurisdiction, runs its own facility in Lithuania, and operates data centers across Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany, Chicago, Singapore and a newly opened site in Tokyo. Some of Cherry's customers come for hard compliance reasons; others, Lili says, come for ideological ones, wanting the chains they help secure to live beyond the reach of any single government. The conversation lands at a moment when data sovereignty and distrust of concentrated American cloud power have moved from fringe concern to boardroom agenda. The sharper argument is about economics, and here Lili thinks the industry is approaching an inflection point. She describes a shift from "cloud-first" to "workload-first" thinking: instead of defaulting to a hyperscaler and accepting whatever T-shirt-sized instance you're sold, teams running archival nodes, validators or other niche workloads are discovering they pay more and perform worse than they would on dedicated hardware tuned to the job. Cherry's answer is granular customization — choose your disks, your storage, your RAM, and pay only for what the workload demands — backed by account managers who architect the build rather than just sell a box, with human support that answers in well under a minute. For staking-heavy customers, the model is almost self-funding: a large share pay in crypto, drawing on staking rewards to cover their infrastructure across some thirty different chains. Her forecast for the next eighteen to twenty-four months is the part worth sitting with. Lili argues the era of free cloud credits is ending — she doubts AWS will keep handing startups six-figure credit grants for signing up to an accelerator — and that founders, newly disciplined about runway, will increasingly treat optimized bare metal as a way to extend it. In the closing hot-take round she plants her flag as a multi-chain "Solana maxi," names Bitcoin as the enduring store of value while backing the smaller chains' upside, and offers a builder's creed: the market ultimately rewards people who make useful things on-chain, not those treating tokens purely as speculation — which, she adds, is also why she thinks people should run nodes with smaller providers. The story of Lili Boulanger's life is one of the most fascinating and tragic in all of musical history. A remarkably precocious talent, Boulanger learned to read sheet music before the alphabet, played the violin, piano, cello, and harp, and composed regularly from a young age. Despite her talent and commitment, Boulanger suffered from chronic illness her entire life, which severely dampened her budding career and prevented her from reaching her potential. She died at the age of just 24, likely from Crohn's disease, and left behind several spectacular pieces that unfortunately were soon relatively forgotten. Boulanger's sister, Nadia, became one of the preeminent composition teachers of the 20th century, working with luminaries such as Aaron Copland, Elliott Carter, David Diamond, Philip Glass, Astor Piazzolla, and many more. But throughout the 20th century there was very little interest in Lili Boulanger's musical output. That has changed somewhat with a renewed focus on bringing the works of female composers to the stage, and this has led to an explosion of performances of a few works, specifically Boulanger's brilliant short orchestral pieces D'un Matin de Printemps and D'un Soir Triste. But there is still a dearth of performances of some of Boulanger's great choral pieces, and in particular of Psalm 130, a piece that I find to be absolutely stunning but which is almost never performed. The piece, written in memory of Lili and Nadia's father Ernest, is a lament that shows off the potential of the 22-year-old composer, writing a piece far beyond her years in its emotional maturity and technical construction. In many ways, Lili Boulanger should be thought of in the pantheon of the great musical prodigies in Western classical music. Unfortunately she should also be thought of in the pantheon of the great composers who died tragically young. Today on the show, we're going to do a brief overview of Lili Boulanger's life to orient you into her style, and then we'll go through this gorgeous piece, talking about Boulanger's influences and her creative use of those influences, and discussing whether the piece was autobiographical or not.
