This week, we're heading down to the basement with no regard for our own well-being as an impromptu theme emerges from our weeks-long run of perfect pictures and Masterpiece Month continues with 2007's Zodiac, directed by David Fincher, written by James Vanderbilt, and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey Jr., Anthony Edwards, Chloë Sevigny, Elias Koteas, John Carroll Lynch, Brian Cox, Philip Baker Hall, Dermot Mulroney, Donal Logue and Charles Fleischer. It's very much a movie about obsession, the irresistable pull of a puzzle, and has a compelling case as Fincher's best movie. Watching it now, it's almost an ill omen for the cultural obsession with true crime content and podcasts in the years since, but this one manages to explore its gruesome crimes in a way that doesn't feel gratuitous or exploitative -- a tough needle to thread. If you'd like to watch Zodiac before listening to our discussion, it is currently streaming on Paramount+. Other works discussed on this episode include Knives Out, Glass Onion, Mank, Citizen Kane, The Killer, Spy, The Heat, Can You Ever Forgive Me?, Identity Thief, A Simple Favor, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, The Accountant, Twilight, Saint Maud, Ren Faire, The Idea of You, Kissing Jessica Stein, Friends With Kids, Bad Boys, Bad Boys II, Everybody Wants Some!!, Dazed and Confused, Nope, Evil, The X-Files, the music of Maggie Rogers, Summer of Sam, Fight Club, Se7en, Alien3, The Social Network, Panic Room, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Spotlight, Prisoners, Hustle, Iron Man, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Oppenheimer, Succession, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Devs, Twister, Mr. Show, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, Boston Strangler, Cold Case Files, Forensic Files, I'll Be Gone In The Dark, and Accepted, among others. We'll be back next week to wrap up Masterpiece Month with the Wachowskis' magnum opus on what it means to create art under capitalism as we step behind the wheel with Emile Hirsch, Christina Ricci and Matthew Fox in 2007's Speed Racer -- a movie that is sadly not available for streaming in Canada currently. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!
October 26-November 1, 1996 It's Ken's birthday month, so this week you get ANOTHER BONUS episode. This time in celebration of THEIR 200th episode Ken welcomes Abby and Ryan from the fantastic Bothering the Band podcast. Ken, Abby and Ryan discuss when the interviewer becomes the interviewee, the origins of the Bothering the Band podcast, booking big guests, getting rejected, Frank Turner, Counting Crows, when Ryan met Abby, cool schools, almost booking Keanu Reeves, Gavin Rosdale, Puka Shells, growing up in Orlando, The Party, boy bands, Disney, Nickelodeon Studios, dudes who look like Isaac Mizrahi, Bob Goen, never coming gymnastics, sprots to non sports, congregating a career, MST3K's switch from Comedy Central to Sci-Fi, winning a trip to England by knowing the Tetley Tea jingle, diaper ads, the Nirvana baby, hi waisted hips, no dick jokes, RL Stine, Batman the Animated Series, Superman the Animated Series, helping the Dragon Ball Z community, strange emails, Cartoon Express, a woman giving birth to a doll, the band Live, Columbia House, nerds, making your own video store, Bailey Kipper's POV, Hey Arnold, Lunchables, cooking pizza rolls in a VCR, vending machine lunches, The Young Comedians All Star Reunion, 80s nostalgia in the 90s, SNL, collector's plates, beautiful unicorns, Jacksonville FL, porcelain crap, The Shadowzone, Ron Silver, diecast, beer and tiny cars, Hess, Seventh Heaven, Jennifer Love Hewitt, when old TV is problematic, joining a gang, Her Costly Affair, Savannah, the Waynes Brothers, Roast Beef Tissues, wanting things to be good, the high school right outside Universal Studios, trick or treating, Burning Zone, national television debut of The Cramps, 90210, Peach Pit After Dark, Donal Logue, Stephen Bochco's comedy series, Jimmy the Cab Driver, Seinfeld, avoiding Halloween, Living Single, loving Ghostbusters, Ben Cooper costumes, Unsolved Mysteries, PCU, deceptive car ads, dolls, Johnny Carson's charity, hating 311, Ken's Third Wave Ska trauma, melting pennies, befriending your heroes, and facial injuries from laughing.
On this week's episode of The Underdog, your hosts Chris Horwedel and Matt Crone start off the show by talking about the Philadelphia Phillies recent hot streak. The guys then also talk about things like the Washington Commanders mascot, sitting behind the net at baseball games, spiders in the house, Lou Ferrigno playing himself, the upcoming week in sneaker releases, and more.
Harvey Bullock is a fictional detective appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics, commonly in association with the superhero Batman.[1] The character first appeared in Detective Comics #441 (June 1974) and was created by Archie Goodwin and Howard Chaykin. In animation, he appeared throughout the DC Animated Universe, voiced by Robert Costanzo. He debuted in live-action in 2014 on Fox's television series Gotham, portrayed by Donal Logue. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/rangerryan/message
Tread Perilously's Failed Prestige month continues with the Terriers episode called "Dog and Pony." When Hank's $30,000 check becomes evidence in the case against his client, he tries to drum up business to cover the deposit he still owes on the house. He soon finds a $5,000 bounty on a man wanted in connection with a liquor store heist. He and Britt encounter him only to find he's taller and stronger than the bounty notice let on. Their next step: scare his half-brother into doing something. But when that uncovers a further crime, will Hank and Britt turn it to their advantage? Erik and Justin once again get lost in the Geography Corner of a show set (again) in San Diego County. The presence of The Shield's Shawn Ryan in the creative team proves to be a positive. Star Donal Logue's corrupt cop aura also lends itself well to Hank -- so much so, Erik refuses to call him anything but "Donal Logue." Magneto goes to law school. Hulk start to worry about heart health. The pair try to determine a better name for the show than Terriers as it proves to be a huge barrier to entry. Rockmond Dunbar ends up the supporting MVP and Studio 54 becomes a surprisingly important location to the discussion.
This week, we're taking up arms against the British and making moves on our dead wife's sister as we get downright independent with 2000's The Patriot, directed by Roland Emmerich, and starring Mel Gibson, Heath Ledger, Jason Isaacs, Tom Wilkinson, Joely Richardson, Chris Cooper, Rene Auberjonois, Donal Logue, Adam Baldwin, Gregory Smith and a young Logan Lerman. Try as we might to tie into this week's release of Alex Garland's Civil War, this is a war epic about the War of Independence, and just like Independence Day, when America needed a rousing, slightly fascistic display of patriotism via action cinema, you need the propagandist touch that can only come from a German. This movie is also nearly three hours long, so needless to say, Hayley hated it. Meanwhile J Mo's got a theatrical field report on Sydney Sweeney's latest, Immaculate, and Hayley's getting down with some crunchy sugar cereals. Other works discussed on this episode include The First Omen, The Omen, The First Purge, The Purge, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Dark Side of the Ring, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Ghostbusters (2016), Isle of Dogs, The French Dispatch, Asteroid City, The Royal Tenenbaums, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Moonfall, Small Soldiers, Zodiac, Full Metal Jacket, Firefly / Serenity, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, The Princess Diaries, Waterworld, Escape From New York, the music of Queens of the Stone Age, Ima Robot and Diana Ross & The Supremes, and the video games Spider-Man: Miles Morales and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. We'll be back next week as we stay in the early 2000s with a completely different type of picture: the 2004 rom-com Along Came Polly, an unseen selection from Hayley's collection that packs a dynamite supporting performance from Philip Seymour Hoffman. If you'd like to watch the movie along with us it is currently streaming on Starz in Canada at the time of publication. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!

Brendan's mentor and dear personal friend Ronny Maxwell makes a big blue-gray splash in 1993's Gettysburg: the story of the pivotal American Civil War battle and the various monologues and wistful bittersweet remembrances that changed a nation. Ronny gives the war a grandeur steeped in myth and Lost Cause attitudes (though nowhere near its embarrassing sequel Gods and Generals) and some of the most careless beard-work in recent memory. Jason monologues, Brendan listens and in the end, they both die valiantly in the service of different dreams (Editors Note: they do not die). Next week: Eastwood drills! Questions? Comments? This week, Patty picks the movie for the guys and bestows upon them... Metro starring Eddie Murphy. Episode 34 - Hype: Sneakers (1992)There are so many great movies that came from the 90's, but “Sneakers” is one that not only stands out but is one that I either return from time to watch again and again or stop and watch some (or all of) whenever I find it playing anywhere. While I can appreciate dark, twisted espionage thrillers, 'Sneakers' takes a different path. It steers away from what we have more recently been accustomed to with the usual gritty tones for a blend of light-hearted mischief, humor, and suspense, making it a uniquely enjoyable experience.. You have a one of a kind cast with Robert Redford, Sidney Poitier, Mary McDonnell, River Phoenix, Dan Aykroyd, Ben Kingsley, David Strathairn, Donal Logue, Stephen Tobolowsky, Timothy Busfield and more. It kind of (I am reaching here a little bit) feels like the precursor to the Ocean's 11 reboot with its group of goofy characters facing real threats. This movie is written by the team behind “WarGames” and is directed by the always entertaining Phil Alden Robinson (“Field of Dreams”, “The Sum of All Fears”, and the series “The Good Fight”). The movie's crown jewel, however, is its music. Composer James Horner, known for 'Avatar', 'Braveheart', and 'Titanic', delivers one of my all-time favorite scores. Everyone behind and in front of the camera brings their A-game to this movie. Yes at times its a little cheesy and feels a little dated, but none of that gets in the way of this movie being pure fun. The only frustration I have with this movie is its bad title. As you will hear in this episode, there were other great title options that were included in the movie! Other than that one (but important) frustration this early 90's hit is one that if you have not seen it that I highly recommend you check out. “Sneakers” is available to rent and or purchase on all platforms. Enjoy the movie and thanks for listening. This is a public episode. If you would like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit sohrabsmovieq.substack.com

My holiday gift to you is the early upload of what is easily one of the five funniest episodes of Watch With Jen that I've released so far. Joining me for another chat-a-thon is one of my wisest & wittiest besties, Priscilla Page, who tackles the legendary, iconoclastic 20th-century filmmaker John Frankenheimer with me in her rollicking, rowdy, & incredibly articulate return. Needing to check that explicit language box almost immediately, as one does with Frankenheimer, we celebrate the man, the mythos, & the master of automotive action in the films GRAND PRIX & RONIN. Going on a few memorable tangents about Steve McQueen, James Garner, zen & the art of racecar driving, David Mamet, Robert De Niro, & how obsession with continuity is stupid, this episode serves up plenty of laughter & stories, though none are greater than the ones shared in the last section of the podcast by two of my other awesome friends. My wonderful honorary kid brother from Oz - Mr. Blake Howard - hooked me up with some amazing audio he recorded in 2021 with incredible actor & dear friend Donal Logue where Donal shared some heartfelt & hilarious memories of working with Frankenheimer on the holiday actioner REINDEER GAMES. (I'd heard a couple of these from Donal in the past & they're the best!) Originally released by Blake Howard in his One Heat Minute Productions pod spinoff "Rum & Rant" which has since been dubbed "Roast & Rant," I'm thrilled to include these stories with you at the tail end of the episode as a way to honor the late great John Frankenheimer's legacy. The best way to de-stress as you prep for the holidays, cinephiles will adore this one. It's a true pleasure to highlight gifted pals on the podcast, particularly as we begin to wrap up 2023, & Watch With Jen will return once more in December with a final S4 episode featuring the awesome Sean Burns on Robert Altman. Additionally, our spinoff pod MIDNIGHT RUN-THROUGH, co-hosted by Blake Howard, is premiering shortly & you'll also find it here, so get psyched!Priscilla's Bio: One of the brightest & most popular lights of Film Twitter, Priscilla Page writes about cars, movies, and cars in movies, focusing mostly on your dad's favorites: actioners, thrillers, westerns, etc. Her bylines include Hagerty, Autoweek, Empire Magazine, The Guardian, Polygon, Birth.Movies.Death., and Bright Wall/Dark Room. Our very loyal listeners get to pick movies for us sometimes... and this one comes from Luc Shannon of Game It All! Because of Luc's patronage, the guys watched the Nicolas Cage comic book movie Ghost Rider. If there is an episode of SVU featuring a worse version of Bad Amanda Rollins, the Munchie Boys have yet to come across it. Gambling Amanda gets in Dutch with an improbable art forgery/gambling outfit who use her massive debts to them to get her to be their evidence-disappearing cop on the take. Rollins do so much to warrant her immediate firing that it's shocking she made it another decade past this. More than that, for a solid half-hour, we're left to think she was forced to blow Declan while he's undercover in his first appearance. Dark, bad stuff is afoot, but don't worry, we also take plenty of detours into improbable names paired with nonsensical accents, Logue going full brogue, and how being an art history major from an Ivy makes you immune from the heat.Sources:Branford Marsalis Gets the Blues For "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom" - The Credits - Motion Picture dot OrgMusic:Divorcio Suave - "Munchy Business"Thanks to our gracious Munchies on Patreon: Jeremy S, Jaclyn O, Pedro H, Amy Z, Nikki B, Louise M, Whitney C, D Reduble, Tony B, Zak B, Barry W, Karen D, Madelin K, Sara L, Miriam J, Drew D, Meghan M, Nicky R, Stuart, Jacqi B, Natalie T, Robyn S, Isabel P, Christine L, and Amy A - y'all are the best! Kim told Ket about our second Patron pick of the season: Silent Night from 2012… or the 80's. We're unclear. Kim and Ket decide to pick up new weapons for this one. Ket, a scythe. And Kim… well, duh. A Chainsaw. Jaime King gives a tour de force performance in a real turd pie. And Malcolm McDowell ate every single set piece there was. This week's guest is a terrific character actor with over thirty years in the industry. A veteran of more than seventy Hollywood movies and hundreds of episodes of television, Donal Logue is the beloved scene-stealer of such films as Sneakers, Blade, and Zodiac, and TV series as Grounded for Life, Sons of Anarchy, Vikings, Gotham, and of course, the great Terriers, which Jed Ayres and I celebrated earlier this year in a full episode. Additionally, the recipient of the Special Jury Prize for Outstanding Acting at the 2000 Sundance Film Festival for the indie favorite The Tao of Steve, Donal also has quite the passion and talent for writing. In 2021, he co-wrote the brilliant New York Times bestseller Trejo: My Life of Crime, Redemption, & Hollywood, along with his good friend Danny Trejo. Currently hard at work on his next book, Donal has just been added to the third season of the popular Queen Latifah CBS series The Equalizer, which I'm looking forward to checking out. Needless to say, he's a very busy guy! Someone I'm honored to have gotten to know after the Terriers episode, Donal has not only become a very good friend but has also consistently given me the best film recommendations, including several that we discuss in this fascinating episode. In a thoughtful roughly two-hour conversation, Donal shares his affection for the gritty, social realism centric tales of the so-called "angry young men" that took the world by storm in the UK Kitchen Sink Drama movement of theater and film in the late 1950s and early '60s. Focusing primarily on Look Back in Anger, The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner, Billy Liar, This Sporting Life, Kes, A Taste of Honey, Saturday Night and Sunday Morning, and The Entertainer, this is an episode to listen to with a pen and a pad of paper as masterful films get cited throughout. With sharp insights about acting, filmmaking, and storytelling from his perspective as a film fan first and a professional second, this engaging chat is a treat for cinephiles everywhere. This week, it was a true honor to welcome a very special guest that I recently made the acquaintance of following our episode dedicated to FX's superb 2010 series TERRIERS. He's the first of two individuals related to the show whom you'll hear this season – series star Donal Logue is also forthcoming – but first up we have the show's creator and executive producer, along with the writer and director of two episodes, it's the great Ted Griffin.A terrific screenwriter whose credits include RAVENOUS, OCEAN'S ELEVEN, and MATCHSTICK MEN (which he co-wrote with Nicholas Griffin), additionally, he is the producer of such Oscar-nominated films as UP IN THE AIR and THE WOLF OF WALL STREET, as well as one of my pandemic TV favorites, the Emmy nominated Netflix series PRETEND IT'S A CITY. Working alongside Martin Scorsese on some of the titles mentioned earlier, Ted also wrote two Scorsese-directed advertisements: the CLIO award-winning THE KEY TO RESERVA and STREET OF DREAMS.Joining me to discuss the 1930s and '40s heyday of filmmaker Leo McCarey, who often gets overlooked in conversations that so often focus only on contemporaries like Lubitsch and Capra, in this wide-ranging conversation, we focus on the movies DUCK SOUP, MAKE WAY FOR TOMORROW, THE AWFUL TRUTH, LOVE AFFAIR, and GOING MY WAY. Also revealing the way that his own family history links up with McCarey's as the grandson of director William A. Seiter as well as his own insights as a filmmaker and shout-outs to his gifted wife Sutton Foster, this episode is a must for classic movie lovers, in particular.Logo: Kate Gabrielle (KateGabrielle.com) Theme Music: Solo Acoustic Guitar by Jason Shaw, Free Music Archive Originally Posted on Patreon (4/9/22) here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/64931833

Even if he never stepped on set, director David Fincher has his fingerprints all over 'The Batman' and this is the film to blame!
