God has designed us to be relational beings Romans 15:13 - 13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. My Pride Our Pride “I will only relate to you if…” Proverbs 11:2 - When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom. Proverbs 16:18 - Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Luke 14:11 - “For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” It's not about you. Romans 12:14-1514 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Concept of Blessing: Ability to put everyone else before yourself “Bless and do not curse…” The deeper issue in us is sin Set aside yourself Here are some ways you can be a blessing: Ask good questions Pray for them Be emotionally available Speak kindly about them Romans 12:16 - Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. It's not about you Find freedom and forgiveness in Christ Remember the next time someone wrongs you: Ask, “Would I do the same if it weren't for God's love.” Pray, “Help me forgive them as you forgave me.” Meet with them where they are Let your words about them bring hope

Buick, VW, Ford, Ford, Ford, VW, Toyota, Honda, Toyota, Toyota, Toyota,  Brand Loyalty fromm boomers in the last 25 years is ZERO… thats staggering. For Gen X…. They don't even know what brand loyalty is… For Genz Z they have some loyalty… but it is more of a fan base, meaning they are loyal until the next hit comes.   But where is there loyalty that rarely slips… Self care loyalty is huge and rarely shifts. What do I mean by self care…. Well if you are a woman and you get your hair done, nails done or work out/weight loss - that is self care. If you have a Doctor, nutritionist, Dentist, whatever is about you taking care of yourself. The fact remains the same - and its this: if you can combine feature with relationship you will almost never change- even if it is a huge price difference. I want to go to a Doctor that I like, and that is competent. But if he is only competent, but a rude or seemingly uncaring person… I will leave him for a competent and caring doctor.   We use to always go to the same place to buy a car or get our groceries… not anymore because there is no personality tied to it. Today, relationships are everything. So where am I going with this? We often want more open doors to share Christ… well it starts with how you treat people. How you treat those at work, in your neighborhood, church, coffee shop, doctors office, mechanic, the 1-800 operator.  When you have relationship skills that connect you with other people it gives you a divine advantage to share the gospel.    I was on the phone last week with a bank… waiting online for 30 minutes… usually the hold line plays horrible background music… but they didn't. So I used it as a way to start a fun conversation with the operator. By the time I was done I was telling her about Jesus.  We can build short term loyalty by how we treat others… and use it to share Christ. we can build long term loyalty with anyone and again use it as a way to share Christ… if people simply like us, we can tell them just about anything. Maybe that is the ultimate secret to witnessing.  As followers of Christ Remember this one thing: When it comes to sharing Christ… he is not the brand, we are! They better like who we are or they may never give Jesus a chance.

Great Bible Truths Podcast Episode 155 Lessons from their lives Talk 21 - Thomas Welcome to Talk 21 in our series, Lessons from their lives. Last time we looked at John the Baptist and saw that, although he was described by Jesus as the greatest of the prophets, he was nevertheless subject to doubt. We looked at the nature of his doubt, the cause of his doubt, and the remedy for doubt. Today I have chosen as our subject Thomas, who is also well known for his doubts. You will doubtless - excuse the pun - see several similarities between them. We'll begin by reading: John 20:19-31 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you!' After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. Again Jesus said, ‘Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.' And with that he breathed on them and said, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone's sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.' Now Thomas (also known as Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, ‘We have seen the Lord!' But he said to them, ‘Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.' A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you!' Then he said to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.' Thomas said to him, ‘My Lord and my God!' Then Jesus told him, ‘Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.' Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. Let's consider: Why Thomas doubted Why he did not really need to doubt How his doubts were overcome How all this applies to us.  Why Thomas doubted His personality? cf. John11:16 Let us also go, that we may die with him He had experienced a massive disappointment He did not keep close to his fellow disciples (20:24) He consequently missed a wonderful experience (19-20) Imagine his feelings during that week. Why didn't Jesus appear to him before? There are experiences of Jesus that we only receive when we are gathered with our fellow-disciples. Why he did not really need to doubt He had spent 3 years in the presence of Jesus and had never known him to fail. Jesus never made a mistake. He always had an answer. He had personally experienced the miracle-working power of God (Matthew 10:1, 3, 7-8) Jesus had prophesied his own resurrection (John 2:19, 21-22, 10:17-18, Matthew 12:40, 26:32 etc.) Jesus had personally told him he was going away (John14:1-6): Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going." Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him." How his doubts were overcome He got together with the disciples again (20:26) (He wouldn't believe their evidence, but he was longing to find out) He had a personal encounter with the risen Christ (26-27) He surrendered his doubts to Jesus (28) As a result, he became an obedient disciple and Spirit filled preacher (Acts 2). Apostle to India. How all this applies to us We need to: Surrender our doubts to Jesus Get together with the disciples It's there that we're most likely to have a personal encounter with Christ Remember that Jesus said: 29 Because you have seen me you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed It is possible to believe without seeing It is better to believe without seeing It is enough to believe the Book (30-31) Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. We often say ‘Seeing is believing'. The Bible tells us the reverse is true. BELIEVING IS SEEING! Read the Book Believe what you read In it you will encounter Jesus In Jesus you will find life.

The Lord Returns For Believers The analogy in our episdoe works with those who have died of whom we know and/or are related to as well. Who are definitively saved by Christ… Remember, what commentary said, quoting, “…concerning them which are asleep; that is, dead: it was in common use among the Eastern nations, when they spoke of their dead, to say they were asleep. This way of speaking is used frequently both in the Old and the New Testament; and very often with the Targumists; because there is a likeness between sleep and death…”. Mother’s Day (A look at Jochebed’s story in Ex 2)May 10, 2020Key Verse: Joshua 1:9 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”Main Point: Living courageously during difficult times glorifies God because it demonstrates that we believe in the God of the Bible who is able to do more than we can imagine. Exodus 1:8-2:10Oppression (1:8-12) John 16:33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”Opposition (1:22) Romans 8:31-39 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? 33 Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shalltribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written:“For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” 37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.Opportunity (2:1-10)Galatians 6:7-10 7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. 9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith. You want to be an overcomer and experience victory? Trust God 1 John 5:4For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.Have an eternal perspective – GOD won!!!Rely on God’s strength – Phil 4:13 I can do all things through Christ…Remember the words of Paul “When I am weak, He is strong” 2 Cor 12:10Lk 1:39 For with God, nothing will be impossibleGod is in control – “Everything is gonna be alright”Point of Application: Difficult times can either bring out the best in us or worst in us. It is God’s desire that the church would rise up and face difficulties with the confidence that He is able to provide, protect and prosper his kingdom.

I want to shift my focus from the insecurities I see around me to the security I have in you. I often feel that something has to change in the outcomes I am experiencing these days for me to feel secure. There is the rider of the White Horse in Revelation 6:2 and now you meet another rider of the White Horse in Revelation 19 from verse 11 to 14, with the armies of heaven following him with fine linen bright and clean. Right?Because when the LORD describes this form of apostasy, he tells us that there is a teaching that will come, another teaching, and it will deceive many and many will be believe it and be deluded. Deceived. Understand? And then something else comes out very powerfully. Because I wondered how can somebody come and say I am the Christ? Remember, He was talking to the disciples, who had known His voice, who had known His teachings, they knew His position on sin, they knew His position on righteousness, they knew His position on holiness, they knew His stand on the renunciation of apostasy.

We have now made it to step 12 on our journey to learn our faith. Step twelve is about the 12 Marks of the Church. In the last chapter we learned that Jesus picked twelve apostles from his disciples to spread what he taught them to all the world. We also learned that he selected Peter to be the leader of the twelve apostles. This was how Jesus started his Church. Peter was the leader of the apostles being the first pope. The remaining apostles were the first priests of the Church. They were actually considered bishops since they were responsible for going throughout the entire world to teach the good news of Jesus. The question that we asked at the beginning of last chapter was: Why did our Lord choose twelve apostles? He chose Twelve to tie back to the Old Testament of the Bible to represent the Twelve Tribes of Israel. Today, there are many Christian traditions and denominations. Many experts say there are more than 30,000 different Christian denominations. How do we know which one is correct? Which church or churches have the truth. The most important question here: Is there a church that has the fullness of Christ’s truth? Here are some questions to think about during this chapter: Who are the other sheep that Jesus was talking about? What does Jesus desire for the other sheep? Did our Lord start many churches or only one church? How do we know which church or churches Jesus established? How do we help the other sheep to know that the Catholic Church is the Sheepfold of Christ? Remember from the last chapter, that the Sheepfold of Christ is the same as Jesus's Church. Our first reading from the Holy Bible is from the Gospel of St. John 10: 9-16We see in that reading that Jesus called his Church a Sheepfold. We also see something new that we didn't read before. “I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. These also I must lead and they will hear my voice and there will be one flock one Shepherd.” This really helps us to better understand and to answer the question that we had: Did Jesus establish one church or many churches? Well, Jesus definitely said there will only be one flock of sheep, one Church with one shepherd. Jesus Christ was the first leader of his one Church. We call Jesus the head of his Church and we call his Church a body. The Church, like us, has one head and one body. That makes sense to me. In the body of Christ the people in the Church all believe what the Church teaches. Jesus gave the authority to the apostles to teach the whole world what he taught, even to those who don’t believe. Jesus gave the authority to the bishops back then. The bishops still have that same authority to teach everybody the one and only complete truth about Jesus and his Church. All of us in his Church are taught and believe what the Church teaches and we all receive the same sacraments. Just like when Jesus started his one Church and chose Peter to be the head of his Church on Earth as the first pope, we still have one head of the Church today. Pope Francis takes the place of Jesus here on Earth. He has the same authority that was given to St. Peter 2000 years ago. Every pope in history has had the same exact authority as our first pope St. Peter had. Today's chapter is titled the Marks of the Church. A mark is something that we can use to know that something is true or it shows that it is true. The Church has four marks. I will describe each of them right now. The first Mark of Christ’s Church is that the Church is Holy. The Church teaches us all to be holy. Everyone who follows the teachings of the Church and stays away from mortal sin will become and remain holy. The Church is here to help us to do just that. The sacraments of the Church are most especially here to help us do that. The second Mark is that the Church is catholic.
