Astronomy Daily · S05E146 · “Postcards from Mars” · Tuesday 21 July 2026 NASA's Psyche probe phones home from its Mars flyby — data and a spellbinding month-long time-lapse — as Europe's Plato planet-hunter clears its final test. From the Royal Astronomical Society's National Astronomy Meeting: a CubeSat that could give us hours of solar-storm warning, and a new way to forecast the Sun's next active spell. Plus the first pieces of the giant ngVLA radio array, and a Southern Hemisphere meteor shower to catch this week.Story notes & sources 1 · Psyche phones home NASA's Psyche spacecraft (launched 2023; arriving metal asteroid 16 Psyche in 2029) used a 15 May Mars gravity assist to test its instruments. The neutron spectrometer detected the anticipated count-rate enhancement near closest approach; the gamma-ray/neutron spectrometer, magnetometer and imager all performed well. Data and a month-long Mars time-lapse were released this week. ●        NASA/JPL — “Psyche Mission Delivers Mars Flyby Data, Time-lapse Video” (17 Jul 2026) ●        Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory — LLNL-built gamma-ray sensor's first planetary measurements (17 Jul 2026) 2 · Plato clears its final exam ESA's Plato — 26 cameras hunting Earth-like planets in the habitable zones of Sun-like stars — passed electromagnetic compatibility testing in the Maxwell chamber at ESTEC, its last major qualification hurdle. It's bound for Sun-Earth L2 aboard an Ariane 6 (current target 2027). ●        ESA — “Plato's electronics ready for space” (20 Jul 2026) 3 · HENON space-weather CubeSat Presented at NAM 2026: HENON, a deep-space CubeSat that would sit ~15 million km upstream of Earth (10× farther than L1), potentially extending severe geomagnetic-storm warning from ~15 minutes to 2–3 hours. It carries the UK-built MAGIC magnetometer (Imperial College London) plus instruments from the Czech Republic and Finland, paving the way for a future European early-warning mission. ●        Royal Astronomical Society / NAM 2026 — “From 15 minutes to 3 hours” (20 Jul 2026) 4 · The Sun's “sleep” precursor Also at NAM 2026: a newly identified precursor in the solar cycle's declining phase that could help predict the next maximum's sunspot number. After the Sun's active phase “switches off,” storms weaken and track a 27-day (solar-rotation) rhythm — pointing to co-rotating fast-wind streams rather than coronal mass ejections. ●        Royal Astronomical Society / NAM 2026 — “How the Sun goes to ‘sleep'…” (20 Jul 2026) 5 · Building the ngVLA The US National Science Foundation, NSF NRAO and the US Naval Observatory are partnering on a pathfinder for the next-generation Very Large Array (ngVLA) — the ~266-antenna successor to the iconic VLA. The focus is very long baseline interferometry for ultra-sharp imaging and for maintaining the International Celestial Reference Frame. Construction/early operations are expected before the end of the decade. ●        NSF NRAO / US Naval Observatory — ngVLA pathfinder partnership (17 Jul 2026) 6 · Skywatch: Southern Delta Aquariids Active mid-July to late August, peaking 29–30 July, with a radiant near Skat (δ Aquarii) — high overhead for Southern Hemisphere observers. ~15–20 faint, graceful meteors/hour under dark skies; suspected parent comet 96P/Machholz. A near-full Buck Moon spoils the peak, so the moon-free pre-dawn hours this week are the best window. Bright, slow Alpha Capricornid fireballs join in toward month's end. ●        Scientific American / EarthSky / American Meteor Society — Delta Aquariids 2026 Astronomy Daily is part of the Bitesz.com Podcast Network. Algae that keeps coming back can make even great pool techs feel like they are chasing ghosts, especially when a customer says, “But we already added the mineral unit.” I'm joined by Fred Square from PoolRx to get brutally practical about what actually changes outcomes: correct sizing by gallons, clean filtration, smart placement, and pump run time that lets minerals dissolve the right way instead of dumping into the pool all at once. If you want clearer water with lower chlorine demand, the details in your install and maintenance routine matter more than another round of shock. We also tackle the question I hear nonstop: where do the minerals go, and do they “build up” as metal in the water? Fred explains how chelated minerals are protected through their useful life, then get used up and filtered out during normal operation and filter cleaning. From there we dig into a big misunderstanding around pool stains. PoolRx often gets blamed for stains that are really caused by existing metals like iron or copper already in the fill water, old plumbing, or a tired heater exchanger, and aggressive oxidation from shocking can make those stains appear suddenly. We lay out a clean workflow: test for metals first, remove them, retest, then install with confidence. Finally, we cover PoolRx compatibility with common pool systems and chemicals, including borates, enzymes, phosphate removers, salt pools, UV, ozone, and AOP. We also share the simple cal hypo bucket method that helps prevent those ugly black surface spots when granular shock sits on the floor. If you're a pool service pro looking for fewer algae callbacks and a simple chlorine enhancer story you can explain to customers, this one will help. Subscribe, share this with a pool friend, and leave a review with the question you want answered next.We talk with Fred Shweer from PoolRx about why mineral systems succeed or fail based on sizing, filtration, and install habits, and how to troubleshoot algae without guessing. We also dig into metals, staining myths, and the real-world compatibility rules that keep pool water clear and predictable.  • sizing PoolRx correctly by gallons and keeping chemistry in range  • cleaning and recharging filters properly, especially DE grids  • placing the unit in the right spot for flow and safety  • running the pump after install to prevent mineral dumping  • understanding where minerals go as they get used up and filtered out  • preventing stains by testing for iron and copper before adding minerals  • removing trace metals with a skimmer or pump basket metal trap bag  • ignoring inconsistent copper readings after installation due to chelation  • knowing when to add a booster based on chlorine demand and water clarity • handling cal hypo safely by dissolving and diluting first  Learn more at swimming poollearning.com  If you're interested in the coaching program that I offer, you can learn more at PoolGuyCoaching.com  Send us Fan MailSupport the Pool Guy Podcast Show Sponsors! Send us Fan MailThe Truth About Pool Coatings, Surface Preparation, and Why Failures Really HappenEveryone wants to know which pool paint is the best.Wrong question. In this episode of Talking Pools, Rudy Stankowitz takes listeners far beyond the paint can and into the science of coating failures, adhesion, compatibility, moisture, and surface preparation. Using the recent attention surrounding the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool as a jumping-off point, Rudy explains why nearly every coating failure investigation asks the same question:What happened before the paint ever touched the surface? From chlorinated rubber and acrylics to epoxy and high-build epoxy systems, this episode explores the strengths, weaknesses, and proper applications of today's most common swimming pool coating systems. More importantly, it explains why even the most expensive coating in the world can't overcome poor preparation. If you've ever wondered why one painted pool lasts fifteen years while another begins peeling after a single season, this episode connects the dots between chemistry, application, environmental conditions, and good old-fashioned craftsmanship. Along the way, Rudy shares real-world stories, practical advice, and plenty of his signature Gen X humor.Whether you're a pool service professional, contractor, facility manager, or simply fascinated by how coatings succeed—or fail—this is one of the most comprehensive discussions on swimming pool coatings ever presented on the Talking Pools Podcast. In This Episode Why asking "What's the best pool paint?" is the wrong question  The lessons every pool professional can learn from the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool  Why compatibility between coating systems matters  Understanding chlorinated rubber, synthetic rubber, acrylic, epoxy, and high-build epoxy coatings  Why surface preparation determines the success or failure of almost every coating system  How to properly inspect an existing painted pool before recoating  The importance of documenting coating failures before disturbing the evidence  Mechanical adhesion vs. chemical adhesion explained in plain English  Why moisture remains one of the biggest enemies of successful coating applications  Proper cleaning, sanding, acid washing, and contamination removal  How silicone contamination, chalking, oils, and residue interfere with adhesion  Why weather, humidity, dew point, and curing conditions matter  Understanding recoat windows and why missing them creates problems  Common causes of blistering, peeling, and coating delamination  Adhesive failure vs. cohesive failure vs. substrate failure  ASTM testing methods used during professional coating failure investigations  Why coating failures should be investigated—not guessed Key Takeaways✔ The most expensive coating cannot overcome poor surface preparation.✔ Compatibility between existing and new coating systems is critical.✔ Surface contamination is often invisible but can completely prevent proper adhesion.✔ Moisture inside concrete can remain long after the surface appears dry.✔ Proper environmental conditions are just as important as choosing the right coating.✔ Good investigators document the failure before removing any evidence.✔ Most coating failures begin long before the pool is filled with water.✔ Successful coating jobs are built on preparation—not luck.Memorable Quotes"Surface preparation isn't part of the job. Surface preparation is the job.""Compatibility matters. Chemistry matters. Guessing doesn't.""Painting a pool isn't hard. And sometimes the things you like in a person can distract you from the things you actually need. This episode breaks down the Five Things Men and Women Want Most, and how those wants can get tangled up when real life, real personalities, and real flaws show up. The Sheep unpacks : Core Needs — the non‑negotiables men and women look for, Personal Likes — the preferences that feel good but don't always last Love vs. Like — why you can love someone's soul but not like their habits . Compatibility — how wants and likes can clash. Emotional Reality Checks — the moments that make you question if love is enoughThis is a grown-folks conversation about the difference between what attracts us, what sustains us, and what challenges us.Because sometimes the person who checks your “likes” doesn't feed your heart — and the person who feeds your heart doesn't always match your list. It's honest. It's layered. It's the kind of episode that makes you rethink how you choose, how you love, and how you show up.

What does compatibility actually mean, and why do so many people walk away from good relationships while staying stuck in bad ones? In this episode of The Sabrina Zohar Show, Sabrina breaks down the broken definition of compatibility most of us absorbed from movies and Disney, and why shared hobbies, an easy connection, instant chemistry, and looking good on paper are not the things that make love last. She brings the research, including what a 20-year study revealed about perceived partner responsiveness and the quiet experience of feeling truly known by your partner. Whether you're single and trying to date with more discernment or you're in a long-term relationship wondering why the spark faded, this conversation gives you a real filter. Sabrina explains fading affect bias and why your brain keeps you hooked on an ex, why the "right" person can feel boring at first, and the one question that works on a third date or a tenth year of marriage: do I feel known here? Relationship Compatibility Test: Are You Actually Compatible?Relationship compatibility is the topic of the day as John and Echo take a 40-question compatibility quiz live on the show to find out if they should "get a divorce" — or keep going. They break down everything from shared hobbies and core values to conflict resolution, household chores, and sexual satisfaction, scoring each answer one to ten and debating the results in real time.Along the way, the conversation turns into a deep dive on boundaries (and what actually makes a boundary valid vs. a manipulation tactic), why traditional masculine and feminine roles eliminate so many common relationship conflicts, and whether compatibility is something you're born with or something you can build. Plus: a debate about co-ed run clubs, separate social circles, and a go-with-the-flow t-shirt idea that may or may not make millions. In This EpisodeCompatibility isn't fixed — you can grow and improve it over timeA valid boundary must be objective and clear to both people, not based on your opinion or a moving targetBoundaries should be a last resort — overusing them creates distance and battlegrounds in your relationshipHousehold chores cause major conflict, but a traditional setup (or being willing to do ANY chore) eliminates itIf you won't help with chores, then provide so your partner doesn't have to work — pick a laneCompeting careers and separate social circles fuel conflict; one primary provider clears that upMasculine/feminine roles "freebie" your way through most compatibility questionsCompletely separate co-ed social circles your partner is never part of are a red flagTimestamps0:00 — Intro: Are We Compatible?2:08 — Shared Values and Moral Compass6:08 — Sexual Intimacy and Communication9:39 — Handling Obstacles and Social Circles12:00 — Decoding the Confusing Quiz Scoring14:48 — The Boundaries Debate20:25 — When Boundaries Hurt a Relationship27:05 — What Compatibility Really Means29:54 — Traditional Roles Solve Conflict33:50 — Co-Ed Hobbies and Separate Social Lives37:01 — Masculine and Feminine Energy40:30 — The T-Shirt Challenge and Wrap-UpConnect

In this episode of the Outlaw God, Dr. Steven Paulson and Caleb Keith continue their exploration of Psalm 51, focusing on David's confession that sin is not merely something we do but something that defines us apart from God's intervention. Paulson explains Luther's understanding of repentance as two distinct words preached from outside the sinner—the law, which exposes and kills, and the gospel, which forgives and raises to new life through absolution. The conversation highlights David as prophet, showing how God creates faith by joining the seemingly incompatible realities of a holy God and sinful humanity through the promise of the gospel. Dr. Katie Gold and Dave Combs from Cornell University join Fritz to unpack one of the most confusing topics facing winegrape growers today: how biological fungicides truly fit into a spray program. Katie explains how the Cornell grape pathology program has expanded rapidly, moving from strictly conventional efficacy trials into extensive work with biologicals as more of these products come out of R&D pipelines. She outlines why growers can't rely on "the next new conventional" anymore and how biologicals are becoming essential tools for sustainable disease management and resistance stewardship. Dave brings decades of field experience and shares how his initial skepticism about biologicals shifted after seeing modern products perform on highly disease‑prone varieties in one of the toughest vineyards for powdery mildew, downy mildew, black rot, and bunch rots. Together, they walk through what "compatibility" really means and why water pH, formulation, and whether an organism is alive or dead matter far more than many growers realize. Listeners learn why mixing biologicals and conventionals in the same tank often provides no added control (and may waste money), where negative interactions can show up, and why tightening intervals and understanding infection periods is critical when working with protectant biologicals.  In this episode, you will hear: Why more new products in the pipeline are biologicals rather than conventional chemistries How Cornell's high‑pressure pathology vineyard reveals the real-world limits and strengths of biologicals Why many biologicals are strictly protectants and must be applied before significant disease is present How tank mixing biologicals with conventionals can reduce cost-effectiveness without improving control Why understanding water chemistry, pH, and product formulation is now an essential spray-program strategy Follow and Review: If you enjoyed this episode, be sure to follow the podcast and leave a 5-star review on Apple Podcasts! Explore Your Personality: https://PersonalityHacker.com    This episode explores whether personality type can really predict romantic compatibility, especially when someone is not attracted to their supposed "ideal" match. Joel and Antonia explain the power pair concept, why it can look good in theory, and where it falls apart in real relationships. They argue that type can be useful for understanding dynamics, but shared values, life experience, maturity, and genuine attraction matter far more.

In this episode, I'm sharing a powerful realization that surfaced for me in my 40s: your standards shape everything in your life. From your business to your relationships, the energy you tolerate will always reflect what you believe you're available for. I open up about the deeper shifts I've been experiencing over the last year—especially around what I'm no longer willing to carry, entertain, or overextend myself for—and how raising your standards often requires radical honesty with yourself first. I also dive into what happens when you begin choosing alignment over obligation and stop holding onto dynamics that no longer support the woman you're becoming. This conversation is about self-respect, identity, boundaries, and the courage it takes to let things either rise to meet you or fall away completely. If you've been feeling the tension between who you've been and who you're evolving into, this episode will help you trust the changes you know you need to make. Liked this episode? It just started to kind of get louder and the voice was telling me that I was going to start outgrowing a lot of things that no longer served me. A lot of things that had gotten me here, but they weren't going to get me where I was going.” - Julie Solomon  “ I am a work in progress friends. I am not perfect. I am learning and growing and expanding as I go, but I believe that the more accountability that we have to take stock of what no longer serves us and really have people that see that in us and honor those non-negotiables, the more that we can do it for others.” - Julie Solomon    RESOURCES: [UNSCRIPTED: THE MASTERMIND] This 12-month, application-only mastermind is designed for high-caliber entrepreneurs ready to refine their positioning, amplify visibility, and scale strategically.
