So, be honest: have you actually memorized all the gifts from the 12 Days of Christmas yet? No judgment here, but most of us barely make it to “five gooooolden riiings!” before mumbling the rest. But did you know this song isn’t just about random birds and overly generous true loves? Nope. It might actually be a sneaky, genius way to teach the Catholic faith! During those rough years of Catholic persecution in England (1558-1829), when catechizing openly could land you in serious trouble, this seemingly innocent carol may have been a covert way to help Catholic kiddos (and adults!) memorize key truths of the faith. Timmerie explains what each verse really means: Partridge in a Pear Tree = Jesus, who’s all about self-sacrificing love. Two Turtle Doves = The Old and New Testaments, reminding us that God’s story is one big love letter. Three French Hens = Faith, Hope, and Charity: those powerhouse theological virtues. Four Calling Birds = The Four Gospels. Five Golden Rings = The Torah (the first five books of the Bible, where it all begins). Six Geese A-Laying = The six days of creation. Seven Swans A-Swimming = The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit. (Graceful and full of purpose!) Eight Maids A-Milking = The Beatitudes. (Milking the blessings of the Sermon on the Mount.) Nine Ladies Dancing = The fruits of the Holy Spirit, aka what happens when grace is working in your life. Ten Lords A-Leaping = The Ten Commandments. (Obeying God’s law = spiritual leaps and bounds!) Eleven Pipers Piping = The eleven faithful Apostles. Twelve Drummers Drumming = The twelve articles of faith in the Apostles’ Creed. (Drumming that truth into your heart.) Timmerie totally nailed it when she said this song invites us to go deeper into our faith while having a little fun along the way. So next time you hear it (which, let’s be honest, will be at least 20 times before Christmas), let it remind you of the richness of our Catholic faith. P.S. Got this stuck in your head now? Same. You’re welcome.

If you’ve ever felt that soul-crushing loneliness or wondered how faith can combat the modern isolation crisis, this insight from Timmerie is for you. Loneliness: A Rising Epidemic Gallup says 1 in 5 adults feels lonely, and it’s getting worse every quarter. Those who don’t feel lonely often have something in common: faith, fulfilling work, and a strong sense of community. Gallup suggests volunteering, exercising, and fostering relationships, but Timmerie? She dives straight into the faith factor. Why Relationships Are Literally in Our DNA Timmerie reminds us that God created humans for relationship, not isolation. Like, think about it: We start life literally attached to another human being (thank you, moms!). Babies need physical touch to thrive: it’s not "needy"; it’s God-designed. Even in Genesis, God looked at Adam and said, “It’s not good for man to be alone.” The Incarnation: God’s Solution to Loneliness Christ’s coming is the ultimate "I see you." God didn’t just send a postcard; He became man. Why? To touch, see, and be with us face-to-face. Mind-blowing thought: Jesus shows up today just as real, in the Eucharist. We taste, see, and touch Him in Holy Communion. That's divine intimacy. The Pain of Loneliness Timmerie gets real: Loneliness isn’t just about being physically alone. You can be surrounded by people and still feel empty. Example? Her 3-year-old’s heartbreak when her cousin said, "You’re not my best friend anymore." (We all feel that sting, even if we’re older and more “mature.”) Sometimes, loneliness is a void meant for God. Remember what St. Augustine said? “Our hearts are restless until they rest in You.” What Can YOU Do? Timmerie gives practical, faith-filled advice for escaping the loneliness trap: Run to the Eucharist. It’s the ultimate antidote to being alone. Jesus is literally waiting for you. Get involved in the world. Volunteer, attend events, shop in person, join a ministry. People can’t know you exist if you’re hiding at home! Be the friend you wish you had. Relationships aren’t about perfection. People are messy, and that includes you.

Okay, friends, let’s talk about this inspiring convo between Timmerie and Joette Calabrese on Trending with Timmerie. They shared how homeopathy has transformed their everyday health care: like, everything from sniffles to major postpartum recovery. Joette, with her 38+ years of experience, shared some practical and faith-inspired gems about using natural remedies. You're invited to learn more and decide if it's best for you. Let’s unpack it! By the way, be sure to listen to the whole hour here! Highlights from the Chat: Homeopathy for Everyday Life Joette kicked things off by explaining how homeopathy helps her tackle daily stuff like anxiety, insomnia, colds, and even injuries. Catholic Roots in Homeopathy Did you know St. Mother Teresa used homeopathy in her work with the poor? Or that several Popes had homeopathic doctors? From battling cholera in the 1800s to serving modern-day Pontiffs, homeopathy has deep ties to Catholic history. Joette shared how this approach could fit naturally with Catholic families: homeschoolers, home-birthers, and DIY types who love autonomy. Homeopathy might make a HUGE difference in caring for your family, whether you’re new to this or a seasoned pro. It’s about feeling empowered to handle your family’s health without always relying on pharmaceuticals. You're invited to learn more from Joette at joetteslearningcenter.

Okay, so if you're feeling a little overwhelmed this Advent season: gifts to buy, Christmas lights half-strung, cookies burnt, and parenting stress: Timmerie and Fr. Robert Spitzer have some wisdom to save your sanity (and soul)! Here’s advice from Father: Christ’s Big Advent Gifts: -Redemption from evil (Bye, Satan). -Tools for battle: Sacraments (especially confession and the Eucharist), Scripture, and moral teachings. Father’s 5-Step "Get Ready for Jesus" Plan: Mass & Confession: Feeling “meh” about your spiritual life? Add a weekday Mass or go to confession more often. (Yes, confession can be hard but it's not worth leaving your soul unprotected!) Scripture & Prayer: Carve out time to meditate on Scripture. Even 2 days a week of reading God’s Word can make a big difference. Examine Your Soul: Use an examination of conscience (loads of free ones online) to spotlight what’s holding you back. Just pick three areas to focus on: don’t overdo it! Jesus’ Moral Playbook: Reflect on His teachings and how you’re living them. It’s like a spiritual New Year’s resolution. Keep It Realistic: Don’t aim for perfection by January 1. Small, sustainable steps are key. Pro-Tips Think of these habits like spiritual weight training: add a little at a time and watch your strength grow. Father reminds us that this isn’t about guilt-tripping; it’s about freedom from evil’s grip and making room for the peace and joy Jesus wants to bring you this Christmas. Advent is your time to prep your soul for the arrival of the King of Kings: not just the next chaotic Christmas party. So, turn down the seasonal noise and get serious about Christ’s gifts. The best present you can offer Him? A heart ready to say yes. Now, light those Advent candles and get to work!

Timmerie and Michael Gasparro explore a topic that hits home during the season: loving family members who may not follow Catholic teachings, without compromising your faith. The holidays can bring all the feels:  joy, nostalgia, awkwardness, and sometimes major family drama. But how do we handle those moments with grace?   Catch the whole hour here!   The Setup:   Timmerie starts it off by acknowledging that the holidays are a time for lights, generosity, and family… but also a minefield of tension. Think: judgment, unresolved debates, and that one uncle's political hot takes.   Oh, and don't forget the moral dilemmas: How do you love and welcome family living in “alternative lifestyles” while staying rooted in Catholic truth? (There's that inner conflict: "Am I endorsing this if I don't say something?")   The Model: Jesus at the Table   Michael reminds us how Jesus set the ultimate example: He ate with sinners and tax collectors, shocking society. His approach? Radical love for the person without compromising the truth. It's about seeing the God-given dignity in everyone, even when their choices don't align with Church teaching.   Key Takeaways for the Christmas Season:   Welcome Without Approval:   Inviting someone into your home doesn't mean endorsing their choices. Timmerie shares a personal example of growing up in a home where everyone was welcome, including family in same-sex relationships. Yet it was clear their lifestyle wasn't approved.   Kids can learn this balance, too! Loving others doesn't have to mean moral confusion.   True Compassion vs. Fearful Compassion:   Father Jacques Philippe's wisdom: True compassion trusts that God loves your loved ones more than you do. Acting out of fear: approving harmful choices just to avoid conflict, ends up causing more harm. Trust in God's plan!   Be a Witness of Love and Joy:   Sometimes, the most powerful witness isn't what you say, but how you live. Create a home full of peace, generosity, and hospitality. Let your actions reflect Christ's love.    Know When to Speak and When to Wait:   Not every moment is the right moment for a “come-to-Jesus” talk. Pray for the Holy Spirit to guide you on when to speak truth, or when just showing love is enough for now. Patience is key.   Protect Young Hearts Prudently:   When kids are involved, discernment is extra important. If a family member's behavior crosses respectful boundaries, it's okay to set limits to protect your children while still showing love to all.   The Bigger Picture: Delight in Others   Michael emphasizes the power of delighting in others: not in their choices, but in their God-given goodness. People are transformed by love, not by condemnation. As Timmerie says, being loved and welcomed can open hearts in ways debates never will.   Final Thoughts: Love Transforms   This Christmas, be bold in love and truth. Remember, welcoming someone doesn't mean you're compromising your faith: it's about reflecting God's love. With prayer, discernment, and hospitality, your home can be a place of joy that points others to Christ.    PSA: Prepare yourself for that awkward family moment with prayer… and maybe pie. Always pie.

Patrick Madrid tackled a fascinating question on his show: Can we feel regret in heaven?    Regret in Heaven? Not Happening.   Patrick made it crystal clear: heaven is an eternal state of perfect bliss. No regrets, no "what-ifs," no "I should have prayed more Rosaries." You're maxed out in joy, peace, and love, depending on your “capacity” to receive God's glory.   He used a great analogy: Imagine your capacity for heavenly joy is like a container:   Some have an Olympic swimming pool worth of grace.   Others might have a Dixie cup (ouch, but still blissed out!).   The Blessed Virgin Mary? Her capacity is like the Pacific Ocean.    No one will feel bad for having “less,” because they'll be maxed out with what they can hold. It's like everyone's favorite drink, perfectly full: no room for envy or FOMO.    Purgatory: Where Regret Gets Burned Off   Now, regret? That's for purgatory. Patrick referenced 1 Corinthians 3:15, explaining that in purgatory, we'll confront the moments we chose “wood, hay, and straw” over “gold, silver, and precious stones.” (Translation: the times we didn't fully cooperate with God's grace.)   In purgatory, we'll think: “Man, I could've done more!” But it's all part of God's mercy: purifying us for heaven.   Emotions in Heaven? Absolutely.   Patrick also clarified that while we won't feel regret or negative emotions in heaven, we will feel joy, love, and awe at levels we can't even imagine. The emotional reunions with loved ones?  Epic. And all those pesky, earthly “low emotions” like anger, jealousy, or boredom? Gone forever.    The Leap to Heaven: Bigger Than Birth   Patrick shared this: Just as an unborn baby can't imagine the world outside the womb (oceans, love, burgers), we can't fathom the leap from this life to eternal life. It's that much bigger and more incredible.   St. Paul nailed it: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, what God has prepared for those who love him." (1 Corinthians 2:9)

Who knew that the Eagles could lead someone to Catholicism? Brad, a 19-year-old college sophomore from Bowling Green, Ohio, shared how he went from atheism to preparing for full initiation into the Catholic Church.  Challenged by His Atheist Brother   Brad's faith journey took a sharp turn when his atheist brother asked a seemingly simple question about Christianity: one Brad couldn't answer. That nudge, coupled with his brother's advice to “learn more about religion,” planted a seed that grew into a quest for the truth. Sometimes, grace works in surprising ways, like through a skeptical sibling.  From Rock Radio to the Rosary   The Holy Spirit can be sneaky. Brad's favorite classic hits station got replaced by Relevant Radio, and instead of jamming to The Eagles, he found himself listening to the Rosary for the first time. Confusion turned into curiosity, which led him to explore the Catholic faith. Talk about God working through unexpected channels.  Searching for the Original Church   When Brad decided to look for the "original" Christians, his research led him to two options: Catholicism and Orthodoxy. After exploring Orthodoxy for a while, something still didn't feel right. Over the summer, Relevant Radio (especially Patrick Madrid's show) became a spiritual lifeline during a faith crisis. Little by little, Catholicism became the clear answer.  A Eucharistic Wake-Up Call   The game-changer was hearing a talk during the National Eucharistic Congress about the profound beauty of the Eucharist. A speaker shared a story about a prisoner who, upon receiving the Eucharist, exclaimed, “I have Him, I finally have Him!” That story hit Brad like a ton of bricks. Suddenly, it became crystal clear: the Eucharist wasn't just a concept: it was a real, tangible encounter with Christ. Cue the tears in the driveway as this realization set in.  The Road to Easter   Now officially a catechumen, Brad is on the path to receiving Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist at the Easter Vigil. His life has completely transformed since discovering Catholicism. Let's not forget his shoutout to the power of Relevant Radio's ministry: it's proof that evangelization works in ways no one could predict.  This story is a powerful reminder that God's grace can reach anyone, anywhere: even through unexpected twists like a converted radio station. Brad's joy and gratitude are infectious, and his story inspires hope for anyone praying for loved ones to find their way home.  Also, sidenote: see if you can count how many Eagles song references are made by Patrick and Cyrus!

How Do We Know that Mary is the Mother of God? (Special Podcast Highlight)

The Patrick Madrid Show

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 20, 2024 9:04

Patrick Madrid looks into this classic Catholic-Protestant debate over whether Mary is really the Mother of God. And spoiler alert: she totally is. Let's get into it:   The Twitter Wars: Catholic vs. Protestant   Patrick caught wind of a Catholic account on X/Twitter duking it out with Protestants about Mary. The claim? Mary isn't the Mother of God because God existed before her. But that argument? It misses the point by a mile.   Theotokos: Fancy Greek Word, Big Meaning   Here's the deal: the term Theotokos (from way back in the Council of Ephesus, 431 A.D.) literally means "God-bearer." It's not just some poetic title. It means Mary bore Jesus, who is fully God and fully man, in her womb. Not "God's incubator," not "divine rental space": she's his MOM. That's the whole point.   But How Can Mary Be God's Mom?   Here's where some people get stuck:   Protestant argument: “Mary's a creature! She can't be the Mother of God because God existed before her.”   Catholic truth: Mary didn't give Jesus his divine nature (obviously: she's not divine herself). But she did give birth to a person, and that person is Jesus Christ, who is fully God. So, she's the Mother of God, not because she created God, but because God entered the world through her.    Nestorius and His Bad Ideas   Back in the day, this guy Nestorius stirred up confusion by claiming Jesus was basically two separate persons: one human, one divine. Wrong. Jesus is one divine person with both a human nature and a divine nature. The Church, through St. Cyril and others, shut down Nestorius's ideas at the Council of Ephesus, making it super clear: the baby Mary gave birth to was God himself.   "You Don't Give Birth to a Nature."   Patrick made it clear. You give birth to a person, not a nature. Like, when your mom had you, she didn't birth your "human nature": she gave birth to you. Same with Mary. She didn't just give birth to Jesus' human side; she gave birth to Jesus, the person, who happens to be God.   Why Does It Matter?   This isn't just theological nitpicking. If you get Mary wrong, you probably get Jesus wrong. Getting Jesus wrong messes with the whole incarnation, salvation, and everything else. That's why the Church keeps hammering this home: every generation needs to hear it.   Council of Ephesus: Let's Get Serious   The council declared: If you don't confess that Mary is the Mother of God (because she bore God-made-flesh), you're in heresy. Why? Because denying Mary's role messes with the whole reality of Jesus being God and man in one person.   So yeah, Mary is the Mother of God. Not because she's part of the Trinity or existed before God, but because the child she bore is God in the flesh. Case closed.

On this episode of The Patrick Madrid Show, Patrick reads an email from a listener who's freaking out about her first confession. She's new to the Catholic Church, nervous about the whole process, and weighed down by a big sin from her past (she had an abortion). She's scared of what the priest will think and honestly just has no idea what to expect. Patrick has practical advice and some solid reassurance.   Confession Isn't as Scary as You Think   Patrick explains:   Confession is straight-up biblical. Jesus set it up in John 20 when He gave the apostles the authority to forgive sins. This isn't some Church-made checklist; it's how Jesus wanted us to experience His mercy.   It's healing. Saying your sins out loud can feel super awkward, but it's also incredibly freeing. Patrick compares it to going to the doctor. It's not fun to put on that paper-thin gown, but the healing is 100% worth it.   Practical Tips for Your First Time Step 1: Prepare   Examine Your Conscience. Basically, take stock of your life and be honest about where you've fallen short. Don't overthink it! Apps like Relevant Radio and its Confession Helper can walk you through this step-by-step.   Stick to “Number and Kind.” All you need to do is say the sin (e.g., lying, gossiping, etc.) and how often it happened (or your best guess). No need to spill every gory detail.   Step 2: Keep It Simple in the Confessional   Start with: “Bless me, Father, for I have sinned. This is my first confession. I'm [age] and joining the Church.”   Be honest and to the point. The priest doesn't need a dramatic backstory: just tell him what happened.   Step 3: Choose Your Priest Wisely   It's OK to go to a priest you don't know. You can go to a different parish if that helps you feel more anonymous.   What About “Big” Sins?   Patrick gets real about sins like abortion. He's crystal clear: God's mercy is bigger than any sin. The priest isn't there to judge you: He's there to help you leave that sin at the foot of the cross and move forward in freedom.   What Happens in the Confessional?   Act of Contrition: You'll say a short prayer of sorrow. Don't panic if you don't know it: the priest can help.   Penance: The priest will give you something to do to show your sorrow, like a prayer or an act of devotion.   Absolution: This is the big moment. Your sins are forgiven, gone forever.     Why You'll Feel AMAZING Afterward   Patrick guarantees you'll walk out feeling lighter than air. The weight of your sins? Gone. The shame? Gone. It's all about freedom and peace, and you'll feel that wave of relief the second the priest says the words of absolution.   Patrick's Final Word: Don't Overthink It   Confession might feel intimidating, but it's worth it. God isn't there to condemn you: He's ready to forgive and welcome you back with open arms. Take a deep breath, trust in His mercy, and go for it.

Timmerie and pro-matchmaker Cristina Pineda talk about a pretty relevant topic in the dating world: how important is physical attraction in a relationship? This episode starts with a story of a woman highlighted in an online column who found her "perfect guy": except she doesn't find him attractive. Is it worth sticking it out, or is it time to swipe left?   Here's what Timmerie and Cristina unpacked about the role of attraction in relationships:   Reality Check on “Perfect Looks”   We all carry ideas from our younger years (thanks, Hollywood) of what we think our “type” should look like: often unrealistically perfect. But as people age, real qualities like kindness, reliability, and faith become way more important than abs or a square jawline. Cristina pointed out how clients of hers are shifting their priorities too, favoring qualities like intelligence and stability over flawless looks.   Looks Aren't the Whole Picture   Cristina shares that attraction can grow with time. When a person's character aligns with your values: like wanting marriage, kids, or faith alignment, looks start to matter less. Plus, they discuss “SRS” (Sudden Repulsion Syndrome): if you hit that level of disgust, okay, time to reconsider. But if things line up on core values and you enjoy their company, keep going!   Don't Let Outsiders Mess with Your Heart   Timmerie and Cristina raise a solid point: loved ones need to butt out when it comes to commenting on your partner's appearance. Even “harmless” comments like, “Really? Him?” can make someone second-guess. Whether it's an innocent family comment or that friend who thinks she's being “helpful,” those remarks can stick and undermine what's otherwise a good thing.    Advice for Singles: Don't Settle on What Matters   Don't compromise on deal-breakers like shared values, faith, and character, but don't be too quick to dismiss someone who's kind and shares your faith. Give it time to see if that spark grows! And if you're struggling with outsider opinions or doubts, bring it to prayer and stay focused on what really matters in a relationship.   TL;DR   Looks fade, but a good person's heart and character stay strong. If someone treats you well and has the qualities you want in a spouse, keep giving them a chance. Focus on the lasting qualities, not just the immediate attraction.

If you're looking for a saint who didn't just walk the talk but ran, skipped, and danced it while juggling a stethoscope and a bunch of kids: meet St. Gianna Molla. This woman's life was like a rollercoaster of faith, medicine, love, and one heart-wrenching sacrifice. Grab a tissue. Timmerie's here to tell you all about her!    Doctor with a Dream    Gianna was a pediatrician in Italy, totally committed to helping others through her medical career. She even planned a big trip to Brazil to do medical missionary work, leaving her thriving practice behind. But then...curveball! She got sick right before the trip and never made it to Brazil. Suddenly, she had to rethink her whole life plan. Ever been there?    Single, 30s, and Wondering    Now, imagine Gianna in her 30s, single, and watching her friends get married left and right. She was asking God some big questions, trying to figure out her vocation. She believed everyone had a unique calling, and it wasn't just about religious life. She wanted to know what God wanted for her life, and spoiler alert: He had some big plans.   Finally, in 1955, along came Pietro, the man who would become her husband. They got married, had three kids, and she was balancing life as a full-time doctor with her husband often on the road. She loved her work, but she and Pietro had to keep figuring out how to juggle it all.    A Heartbreaking Choice    Now, after her third child, Gianna found out she was pregnant again, but she also had a tumor in her uterus. The doctors basically gave her three choices: 1) Have an abortion to save herself, 2) have a hysterectomy (which would mean the baby wouldn't survive), or 3) try to remove the tumor and risk it all. St. Gianna didn't flinch. She was all in for her baby. She went with the riskiest option, hoping to protect her child even if it meant risking her own life.   The surgery worked, and she carried her baby all the way to term. But right after her daughter Gianna Emanuela Molla was born, complications from the C-section led to sepsis. In her final days, Gianna refused pain meds because she wanted to be fully present with her family. Her last words to her sister? A reminder that so many of the things we stress over in life just don't matter when we face eternity.

Can narcissists actually change? You know, it seems like everyone these days is quick to label difficult people as narcissists, like it's the ultimate insult. Can people who are self-centered and walk all over others actually turn it around?   Timmerie totally pushes back against the idea that narcissists can't change (even though some therapists, Catholic and secular alike, say otherwise). She believes, and I think we'd agree, that with God's grace, anyone can change! After all, our faith is built on the idea that transformation is possible through the sacraments and God's love. Just look at saints like St. Augustine or St. Francis of Assisi. They didn't exactly start off with halos!   Enter Bree Solstad, a living example of this transformation. Bree opens up about her own story, admitting she was once the textbook definition of a narcissist. She was crushing it financially, making insane amounts of money (like $100,000 a day), but it came at the cost of stepping on others to get what she wanted. It wasn't until she encountered God's grace that everything changed. And now? She's a Catholic convert and says her old narcissistic self is practically unrecognizable   Bree mentions the difference between being egotistical (all about me, me, me) and being a true narcissist (me + stepping on others). And while some therapists say narcissists are a lost cause, Bree's story shows just the opposite. God's grace is real! She explains how her husband's prayers, gentle nudges toward Catholicism, and seeing joyful, humble role models like nuns helped pull her out of her self-absorbed spiral.   So, what's Bree's advice for anyone dealing with a narcissist in their life? Don't be an enabler. Stand up (lovingly) and hold them accountable. Of course, pray for them. Because as Bree says, if she could change, there's hope for anyone.   No one is beyond God's transformative power, no matter how deep they are in their own ego.    Check out the full hour here!

On The Patrick Madrid Show, Sandra from Naperville, Illinois, dropped a bombshell that every parent needs to hear. During a routine check-up, her 17 and 14-year-old daughters were asked questions about gender identity and pronouns. The doctor told her girls several times that their parents wouldn't be told about their answers!    Sandra was understandably shocked and immediately yanked her kids out of that office. She's now on the hunt for a pediatrician who doesn't follow these new "standards" from the American Academy of Pediatrics. When she called to complain, the staff basically told her that most offices are following this same protocol.    Patrick chimed in with a similar story from years ago, written by the late Kristine Franklin, who had her own “what in the world?” moment when her 12-year-old daughter was offered birth control by their family doctor: without her even knowing! The doc casually mentioned it when she asked the mom to leave the room for "privacy." Franklin was furious and wrote about it to warn other parents to keep their eyes open, because even well-meaning doctors might push your kid down a path you'd never want for them.   Stay in the room during your kids' doctor visits, especially when they're asked about sensitive stuff.   Doctors might ask about sex, gender, and even things like guns in the house or church attendance.   Push back if you're uncomfortable: Sandra did, and so can you!    Parents, it's more than just physical health at stake: it's about keeping your kids' values and faith safe. Stay sharp!

Okay; this episode of Trending with Timmerie is one of those "wow, did that really happen?" moments. Timmerie is talking about Our Lady of La Leche, otherwise known as "Our Lady of the Milk." Our Lady under this title has brought about miracle babies for couples dealing with infertility.    First off, October 11th is her feast day, and the devotion to her dates way back to the 16th century, when Spanish settlers brought it over to the U.S. (specifically St. Augustine, Florida). Our Lady of La Leche has been the go-to intercessor for couples struggling to conceive or hoping for a safe delivery.   One of the wildest stories Timmerie shares is how the devotion even started. There's this man in Spain, right? His wife is pregnant, but it's looking really bad. He finds some kids tossing a statue of Mary nursing baby Jesus around like it's a toy, rescues it, brings it home, and just starts praying like crazy. Both his wife and baby survive, and just like that, a whole devotion to Our Lady of La Leche is born.   Fast forward to today, and Timmerie tells the story of Walker Larson and his wife, who were both dealing with infertility. A priest told them about Our Lady of La Leche and suggested visiting her shrine in St. Augustine, Florida. They did, prayed for a miracle... and a few months later, they were PREGNANT!    While praying, they also discovered a natural remedy called maca. This root has been used since forever to help with fertility.   Our Lady of La Leche has been interceding for centuries, helping couples overcome infertility through prayer. If you or someone you know is struggling with infertility, why not ask for her intercession?

So, Timmerie's talking all about the Cass Report: you know, that massive study from the UK that's got everyone rethinking the benefit of gender transitions for kids. She brings on Dr. Theresa Farnan, who's a moral philosopher and all-around expert on this stuff, to explain it for us.    The Big Deal:   The Cass Report is 366 pages of hardcore data that says, basically: there's NO benefit to transitioning kids: none! Whether it's puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, or full-on surgeries, this report shows it's not helping minors and, in fact, could be doing some serious harm. This study is based on a four-year, international review. It's the real deal.   What's the Drama in the UK?   Doctors in the UK are fuming. Their medical leadership came out in support of transitioning, but a bunch of doctors said, "Nope!" and even quit over it. The review showed that these gender clinics were a mess, and kids weren't thriving; they were actually doing worse.    Key Findings   Long-term follow-up: In the UK, they track people's health long-term, so they saw how bad things got. Kids who were transitioned weren't just unhappy; they were struggling even more.   Kiera Bell's lawsuit: Kiera, a detransitioner, sued after having a double mastectomy as a minor. She basically said, "I needed mental health support, not surgery."  Even though she lost her case, her bravery triggered this whole review.   Kids are falling behind: When kids go on puberty blockers, they don't just delay puberty; they're left behind developmentally, socially, even intellectually. One study showed a kid's IQ dropped after being put on blockers. Yeah, no one's talking about that!   No evidence, all harm: The report found zero proof that transitioning helps kids. And get this: they called social transitioning (like letting kids live as the opposite gender) a "psychosocial intervention" - fancy talk for saying it's messing with their heads.    Why is the US So Behind?   While other countries like the UK are saying "enough is enough" with these gender transitions, the US is still lagging. Timmerie and Dr. Farnan point out that we're just not keeping up with the latest data, and it's hurting kids.   Dr. Farnan says that the Cass Report is the new gold standard for showing how dangerous and misguided these treatments can be. It's not just a moral argument: the science backs it up, too.

Lucia, a young listener, called in to The Patrick Madrid Show with the kind of question that stops you in your tracks: “How do we know we believe in the right God?”  Big question for a little voice, right?   Jesus: The Proof   First off, Patrick answered by going straight to the source: Jesus. We know we're believing in the right God because Jesus Christ: the second person of the Holy Trinity, proved it over and over again with some pretty amazing miracles. Think about it:   -Healing people left and right   -Casting out demons   -Raising people from the dead   Let's not forget the time he fed 5,000+ people with just a few loaves and fish!   Patrick explains that Jesus didn't just perform these miracles to be a crowd-pleaser. No, He was revealing Himself as God in the flesh, saying: "I am the Son of God. I am revealing God to you!"     His Death and Resurrection   If you're still wondering, "Okay, but how do I know for sure?", here's what you need to remember: Jesus predicted His own death and resurrection. Guess what? He actually did it. He told His apostles, "Hey, they're going to arrest and kill me, but I'll be back in three days." He pulled it off. Hundreds of people saw Him after He rose from the dead.    The apostles themselves saw Him, ate meals with Him, and even touched Him to make sure they weren't just seeing things. People died for this belief. These eyewitnesses of the risen Jesus didn't recant their faith, even under torture or execution. Why? Because they knew it was true.   We Have the Receipts: Bible and Tradition   The Bible?  It's filled with Jesus' teachings and the testimonies of those who witnessed His miracles. Patrick also reminded Lucia that Catholic tradition (what we call Apostolic Tradition) is just as important. Passed down from the apostles themselves, this tradition helps us make sense of the Bible and deepens our understanding of God's truth.   Faith in the One True God   In a nutshell, we know we believe in the right God because:   -Jesus revealed Him through miracles and teachings.   -Jesus died for us and rose again, proving He's God.   -The martyrs were so convinced by what they saw, they died for it.    -The Bible and Apostolic Tradition back it all up.   Patrick wrapped it up saying that, if you trust in Jesus and His teachings: especially in the context of the Catholic Church, you can be 100% sure that you believe in the right God.   Lucia? Totally satisfied.    If you're asking the same question? Well, we hope this gives you that same sense of peace and certainty. Believe in Jesus. Trust the Church.

Do you often get confused about what's meant by "Sunday rest?" Are you truly honoring the Sabbath?   Patrick Madrid explored Dies Domini, St. John Paul II's letter that's all about Sundays. There are some things you can do on Sundays and others… not so much. Here's what Patrick shared: Catch the whole hour of conversation here.   Mass is Non-Negotiable First things first: Go to Mass! That's the cornerstone of keeping Sunday holy. While you don't have to receive Communion every time, you still have to show up if you can. No excuses, unless you're sick or delivering a baby in the ER.   Rest (But Make It Holy) St. John Paul II says Sunday should be a day of rest. You can do things that rejuvenate you: think picnics with the family, long walks, and reading Scripture. Rest and reconnect with God.   Acts of Charity = Sunday Gold Star Helping out at a soup kitchen? That's a win. Doing nice things for others isn't "work" in the bad sense; it's love in action. So, while mowing the lawn is a no-go, handing out food to the needy is definitely on the Sunday-approved list.   No Unnecessary Work Doing your taxes or tackling those leaves in the yard: not allowed on Sundays. This includes unnecessary commercial activities too. St. Pope JP2 wasn't about running errands or treating Sunday like any other day.   Super Bowl vs. Sacred Rest Now, what about the Super Bowl? Patrick says, you can probably go ahead and enjoy it, but only if you've already gone to Mass. Balance fun with faith; don't let entertainment take over your sacred Sunday time.   Family Time Wins Sundays are prime for family bonding: whether that's a BBQ or a prayer circle. Keep it together and avoid isolating yourself. Patrick reminds us: Sunday is a family day, but that can also mean your parish family, neighbors, or visiting someone in need.   Evangelize with Your Life Keeping your Sunday holy is a witness to the world. People will see that you're prioritizing your faith, and boom: you're evangelizing without even saying a word!   So, to wrap it up: Sundays are a spiritual reset button. Mass, rest, family, and mercy are the ingredients for a truly holy day.

Okay, here's what you need to know from Trending with Timmerie about guardian angels that might just blow your mind. Sure, we often think of our guardian angels as these protective figures keeping us from car crashes or other mishaps, but they do so much more!   First off, angels are pure spirit: no bodies, but they can still interact with the material world. Their main mission? To help guide us spiritually, keeping us focused on God and resisting temptation. Timmerie reminds us that they're constantly in the presence of God, gazing at His face, which is pretty amazing.    Fun fact: Angels are actually fascinated by the Incarnation (when Jesus became human). They don't get to receive Jesus in the Eucharist like we do, but they're with us in spirit when we receive Holy Communion. Invite your guardian angel to be present during Mass next time!   Guardian angels don't just protect us physically; they help us in spiritual battles. They inspire us to grow in virtue, resist temptation, and even engage in asceticism (self-denial) to train our desires and keep them in check. Whether it's skipping that dessert or holding back a rude comment, your angel is there, nudging you to say “no” for your own good.   Your angel is also battling against fallen angels (yes, demons!) who try to manipulate us away from God. It's an epic spiritual war, and our angels are front-line defenders!   Stay close to your guardian angel by praying the simple yet powerful "Angel of God" prayer. They're our partners in the spiritual journey, helping us grow holier every day!   Ready to call on your angel more often?

So, in this episode of The Drew Mariani Show, Drew brings on Beth Bubik, the author of Delay and Pray, to talk about the incredible benefits of fasting. Trust us, this isn't just about shedding a few pounds, it's about building spiritual strength too!    Beth breaks down how she struggled with fasting at first (hello, hangry moods), but then discovered that our sugar, flour, and alcohol addictions are what make fasting feel impossible. She explains that it's not really about calories, but about insulin. When you're constantly feeding your body sugar and carbs, your insulin levels stay high, making it super hard to tap into fat-burning mode. It's like your body is stuck on a sugar rollercoaster, and not the fun kind.   Her big discovery? It's all about balance. She teaches something called the 8-Fast-Feast Cycle: fasting on certain days, feasting (responsibly!) on Sundays, and wrapping the whole thing around the liturgical calendar. So, not only does this help you spiritually by amplifying your prayer life, but it also gets you into those jeans you've been eyeing!    Beth also explains how fasting helps your body reset. Fasting can lower blood pressure, cholesterol, and even detoxify your body.  Plus, she makes a super compelling point about how Satan can control us through our attachment... food included! If we can conquer our food addictions, we can definitely tackle other spiritual challenges.   And, FYI, Beth is all about moderation. You don't have to be doing extreme 72-hour fasts to see benefits. She says a 16:8 fasting window (fast for 16 hours, eat in an 8-hour window) is enough to see real health and spiritual improvements.    Fasting and prayer are about glorifying God with our bodies and overcoming the vices of sloth and gluttony. Instead of turning to comfort food, turn to prayer and the sacraments. That's how you build both physical and spiritual resilience.

Are you bracing yourself for the teen years? Buckle up, because John Morales and Sarah Tafoya sat down with Danielle Bean on Morning Air to talk about the ups and downs of raising teens. Danielle, mom of eight kids (yes, eight!), dropped some serious wisdom on surviving these years without losing your mind—or your faith.   Here's the scoop:   Teens = Big Attitudes Danielle doesn't sugarcoat it; teens definitely develop an attitude (or two!). But instead of seeing it as terrifying, she reframes it: it's a sign of growth! Teens are figuring out who they are, which is awkward for everyone. As parents, it's our job to support them as they grow.   How to Break Through the Silence We all know the "How was school?" conversation that ends with a one-word answer: "Fine."  Danielle recommends getting creative with your questions.   Try:   "What was the best part of your day?" "Who's your closest friend and why?" When all else fails, do something active with them: playing sports, cooking, or even a project can get the conversation flowing when sitting face-to-face feels too intense. Pray, Pray, and Pray Some More Feeling like you're losing control? That's where prayer comes in. Danielle urges parents to be “prayer warriors” for their teens. You can't control everything they face, but you can entrust them to God and their guardian angels. Seriously, praying for your teen's angel is a game-changer, especially when you can't be there in person.   Balance Freedom and Rules Yes, teens need space. Yes, they need boundaries. It's a dance, like when John shared how he and his son hit the batting cages together, mixing fun with father-son bonding. Or when it comes to screens and phones, Danielle says delay it as long as possible. Teens might push back, but that's okay! "If your teen is happy with all your rules, you might be doing something wrong," she jokes (but also… she's kinda serious!).   Final words of wisdom: Don't freak out! God handpicked you to be the parent of your teen. Lean into His grace, keep praying, and remember: you're shaping them into the person God wants them to be. You've got this!

Can You Be Good Without God? A Conversation About Ethics with a Self-Proclaimed Atheist (Special Podcast Highlight)

Alright, so Patrick Madrid had an amazing convo with Dana, an atheist who called in with a pretty heavy question:   Dana's Big Question: "Can people come up with their own moral values without God?" He's like, “Look, I don't believe in God, so I think humans create their own morals. Isn't this whole ‘God is moral' thing just a ‘God of the gaps' argument? Like, we're uncomfortable with the moral mystery, so we make up a God to fill in the blank.”   Patrick's Response: He said that atheists can be good people. No one's saying atheists are running wild in the streets. But here's the thing: why should anyone bother being good without God? What's the deeper point?”   Basically, he said that while atheists can be decent, honest folks, they're still borrowing from a moral system rooted in something bigger, whether they admit it or not. Without God, morality becomes more like, “I like this, I don't like that,” and not something with actual weight behind it.   Dana's Take: Dana admits that atheists have a bit of a moral problem: if there's no God, it's all kind of subjective, right? It's just humans deciding what's good or bad. He also mentioned he hopes there's an afterlife, but he's not exactly banking on it.   Patrick's Counter: Patrick dropped a bombshell: without God, the world is basically one big animal kingdom. It's just "survival of the fittest". There's no real "good" or "evil", just whatever works for you. He threw in this tough question: “If we're just a bunch of neurons firing off in our brains, why should I care about what's fizzing in your brain? Or mine, for that matter?”    The Catholic Curveball: Patrick wasn't done. He said we all know deep down that stuff like truth, love, and justice are real, not just random feelings. And since those things can't be physically measured, that's a clue there's something bigger than just nature, a.k.a. God. Then he added: God's grace is open to everyone, no matter how late in life they figure it out.   The Anne Frank Challenge: Dana brought up a tough one: how is it that a man like Rudolf Höss (a Nazi) could repent at the last minute and go to heaven, but someone like Anne Frank, who didn't believe in Jesus, might not since she was Jewish? Patrick didn't flinch. He explained that God's mercy is bigger than the worst sins. If you genuinely repent, even at the 11th hour, you can go to heaven. That's the beauty of Christianity. If you knowingly reject God, yeah, that's a different story.   Wrapping it Up: Patrick ended on a hopeful note, basically telling Dana, “Hey man, I'm praying for you. And who knows? Maybe one day you'll embrace Catholicism."

Alright. It's time for some real talk.    Patrick Madrid will tell you about this really alarming trend. Young men, especially teens and early adults, are becoming increasingly alienated from society. He blames much of this on the rise of social media and online dating, which often leave young men isolated and frustrated, especially when their online interactions don't lead to real, meaningful relationships.   Patrick shares a clip from Professor Scott Galloway of NYU, who drops a pretty bold statement: "the most dangerous person in the world is a lonely, broke, young male." According to him, "we're producing millions of them." Oof! Prof. Galloway explains how young men are swiping hundreds of times on dating apps, only to get ghosted and rejected, leading to feelings of worthlessness and isolation. Add in the disappearance of hands-on jobs like auto and woodshop, and it's no wonder young men are struggling to find purpose.    Now, Patrick doesn't pretend to have all the answers, but he's quick to note he's thankful he never had to deal with online dating (he's been married for decades). He paints a vivid picture of how different things are for today's youth – from face-to-face dating to today's swipe-happy culture, which can leave young people feeling more disconnected than ever. The stats don't lie: Prof. Galloway shares that 1 in 7 men has zero close friends, and 1 in 4 can't even name a best friend. Yikes!   So, what's the solution? According to Patrick, it starts with good fathers stepping up. He urges dads to get out from behind their own screens and actively engage with their sons. Whether it's golfing, camping, or even just going for a walk, fathers need to spend quality time passing on wisdom and guiding their sons towards being godly, productive men. It's about creating fun moments where you can have one-on-one convos with your son about God, manhood, and what really matters in life.    Time flies, and it's too easy to look back and wish you'd spent more time bonding with your kids. You don't want that regret! Patrick recommends Steve Wood's book "Legacy" as a good book for fathers to dig into. It will give solid advice on how to raise godly children and create a lasting impact.    The loneliness epidemic won't fix itself, and it's up to fathers, and all of us, to help guide the next generation into a more connected, purposeful life.    You can do this, dad!    Feeling inspired? Share this with someone who could use a boost of fatherly wisdom!

Patrick Madrid had such a touching moment on his show when a sweet little girl named Emily from Texas called in with a really deep question. She asked, "Do babies who die in their mommy's tummy go to purgatory because of original sin?" You could just hear the innocence and sincerity in her voice, and Patrick's response was so kind and thoughtful.   He gently explained that no, those babies don't go to purgatory. Purgatory is a place where souls go to be purified from sins they've committed during their lives, but unborn babies haven't had a chance to commit any sins at all. So, it wouldn't make sense for them to be there.   Patrick then broke down the idea of original sin in a way Emily could understand. He used this really simple analogy: imagine your parents were billionaires (how fun would that be?!) and you were supposed to inherit all that money. But then, because of something your parents did, they lost it all, and even though it wasn't your fault, you miss out on the inheritance. That's kind of what original sin is like—it's something we inherit from Adam and Eve, but it's not because of anything we personally did.   What about those babies who don't get a chance to be baptized? That's where the Church trusts in God's mercy. Patrick explained that while the Church doesn't have an exact answer, it hopes and prays that God, in His love, gives those babies the grace they need to enter heaven. And he reminded Emily that God loves those babies even more than their parents or siblings ever could, so we trust that they're safe with Him.   Patrick's ability to take such a big, complicated question and make it so clear and comforting was really beautiful.   Bottom line: We don't know exactly what happens to miscarried babies, but we have every reason to hope that God, in His infinite love and mercy, welcomes them into heaven. And we can trust that one day, their families will be reunited with them in God's embrace.   If you've suffered a miscarriage, the pain is real, and Relevant Radio is always here to pray with you and support you through the journey of grief. What's the Difference Between Divine and Private Revelation? (Special Podcast Highlight)

The Patrick Madrid Show

So, Patrick Madrid dives into an important distinction that sometimes gets people confused: divine revelation versus private revelation. Think of divine revelation as the non-negotiables—what God has revealed through Scripture and apostolic tradition. This stuff is mandatory for us Catholics. You can't pick and choose. You're obligated to believe and obey it all because it's literally God telling us what to believe and how to live.    Now, private revelation is different. It's not required for everyone. It's like when something supernatural happens to a few people, and it's legitimate for them, but not binding on the rest of us. For example, Our Lady of Fatima appearing to the three shepherd kids in 1917. That's a private revelation, even though it was eventually approved by the Church (and hey, that miracle of the sun? 70,000 people saw it!).   Patrick emphasizes that while Fatima is approved, it's still not on the same level as divine revelation. You don't have to believe in it, and you certainly don't need to go on a pilgrimage to Fatima to be a good Catholic. Same goes for Medjugorje—while it seems to be moving towards Church approval, it's not there yet. You can visit, but don't feel pressured to. You're not required to follow these private revelations, no matter how devoted some people might be to them.   In a nutshell, Patrick warns against making private revelations bigger than they are. They're meaningful, but divine revelation—Jesus, the Bible, tradition—is the main thing. Stay grounded in that!

Are you unhappy? What's causing this sense of dissatisfaction?   Timmerie is hitting on a topic that might resonate with you—whether you're married, single, a parent, or not.    Why are women unhappy? Timmerie has a theory, and she's about to clue you in. She explains that there's been a coordinated effort to undermine women's happiness. Yes, really. It's not just a conspiracy theory—statistics back it up. She points out that 60 years ago, women were generally much happier and more satisfied. More people were married, more people had children, and fewer women were in the workforce.    These days, women have all this supposed "freedom." Yet, we can see that abortion, contraception, and no-fault divorce has made things way worse.    Here's what she thinks is going on:   First, there's this relentless competition with men—"Anything you can do, I can do better." Women are constantly being pitted against men, and not just in the workplace. Then there's the narrative that men can't do anything right. You hear it all the time: “He can't watch the kids without messing it up,” or “He'll only eat takeout if I'm not around.”   Timmerie is quick to point out that men and women are just different. Instead of accepting and celebrating these differences, society has created this toxic mentality that men are incompetent and that women have to prove they can do everything better.   Here's the wild part:   Timmerie explains that this all ties back to the feminist movement, which has roots in communist ideology. The goal was (and still is) to drive a wedge between men and women. This wedge has been driven so deep that it's affecting relationships even before people consider marriage. Women are now trapped in what Timmerie calls a "spirit of perpetual dissatisfaction." Nothing is ever good enough.    Sound familiar?   Timmerie points out that this constant dissatisfaction is exhausting. It's not just about wanting more; it's about believing that women are oppressed or victimized—by men, by society, by everything.   But wait, it gets even stranger...   Timmerie brings up the concept of “consciousness raising,” which was a big part of second-wave feminism in the 1960s. Small groups of women would gather to talk about how they were being oppressed, and this mentality would build up over time. The idea was to make women feel like victims, so they'd get politically involved and "fight back."   Fast forward to today, and this mindset is still alive and well. Timmerie sees it everywhere—from casual conversations to social media. It's like a contest to see whose husband is the most clueless.    "My husband can't even wash a dish. He only eats takeout when I'm gone. He spends all our money!" And people nod along, as if being married is some kind of oppression. The advice from friends? “You're a superwoman—you don't need him. Just leave!”   But here's what Timmerie says we're missing:   Men and women are different, and that's a good thing! Maybe he doesn't clean the house the way you would, but that doesn't make him useless. Maybe he works long hours and doesn't help as much with the kids. Does that mean the marriage is doomed? Absolutely not! According to Timmerie, relationships require sacrifice, patience, and above all—love.    The solution, according to Timmerie?   We need to stop feeding into this toxic mindset that women are always oppressed and that men are always the enemy. Timmerie encourages us to embrace the beauty of sacrifice—something that's central to our Catholic faith. Sacrifice isn't about being a doormat; it's about choosing to love, even when it's difficult. It means putting your spouse first, not because you're oppressed, but because you choose to love them.   Timmerie emphasizes that marriages don't fall apart over dirty dishes or takeout dinners. They fall apart when couples stop choosing each other—when they stop making time for one another. It's easy to let life get in the way and become “two ships passing in the night,” but it doesn't have to be that way.    So how do we fix this?   Confession is key. Timmerie stresses the importance of confession as a way to receive Christ's forgiveness whenever we need it.    Find a community. Surround yourself with people who share your values—couples who are striving to make things work and won't just point fingers.   Ditch the competition. Timmerie says it's time to let go of the “anything you can do, I can do better” mentality. Men and women are meant to complement each other, not compete with each other.   At the end of the day, Timmerie believes true happiness isn't found in trying to outdo men or in rejecting the things that make women unique. It's found in embracing the vocation that God has given us, with love and sacrifice at the center. That's where we'll find peace, joy, and real fulfillment.    So, as Timmerie puts it: It's time to stop chasing the false gospel of dissatisfaction. Let's reclaim true joy, rooted in our faith, our families, and the beautiful roles God has given us. Ladies, you've got this!

Do you have a Miraculous Medal? Do you keep it close by?   On The Patrick Madrid Show, Helene from Arizona called in with a great question that you might have wondered too: What makes the Miraculous Medal so miraculous? Here's Patrick's response.    A Brief History: It all started with St. Catherine Labouré, a French nun who received a private vision of the Blessed Virgin Mary back in the 1800s. An angel led her to a chapel where Our Lady asked for a medal to be created, showing her image on one side and powerful symbols on the other. This medal was meant to be a sign of love for God and Mary, and a way to ask for graces that people often miss out on simply because they don't even ask!    Countless Miracles: Since then, there have been countless stories of miracles linked to the Miraculous Medal—healings, conversions, and dramatic transformations. The stories are too many to count now, but they all share something in common: this simple devotion has led people to deeper faith in Jesus and His Mother.   What's It For? Think of the medal like a wedding ring—a visible reminder of your love and devotion. When you feel it or see it, you're reminded of your connection to God. Plus, it's a conversation starter! If someone asks, you get to share your faith. That's always a good thing, right?!    Want to Learn More? Patrick recommends checking out The Miraculous Medal: Stories, Prayers, and Devotions by Donna-Marie Cooper O'Boyle for some inspiring real-life miracles connected to this devotion. She's been chatting with her Protestant friend, and he kept throwing objections about the Catholic Church, especially about the papacy. You know, the classic stuff like, "Peter wasn't really the rock," "The Catholic Church isn't the true Church," and so on. Jodi, trying to keep her cool, said something like, "If you're looking for the real Church that Jesus started, shouldn't it at least be 2,000 years old?" Nice!   So, Jodi asks Patrick, "Can we trace all the Popes back to St. Peter?" Patrick explains that there's a well-documented list of popes stretching all the way back to St. Peter. You could literally just hop on Wikipedia (or a more professional resource like the Catholic Encyclopedia) and check it out.    Patrick then briefly mentions some of the common objections about the papacy that Jodi's probably facing. Stuff like, "Oh, Peter was just a pebble, not the rock," or "What about those bad popes?" He's heard it all! Yet, he reassures her that these arguments are easy to refute, especially with facts from Scripture and history. He even wrote a whole book on it called Pope Fiction, which tackles 30 of the most common myths about the papacy.    Long story short, Patrick's advice to Jodi? Get the facts straight, whether from his book, online resources, or history, and the arguments will crumble. As Patrick says, if her friend really wants to know the truth, well, there's 2,000 years of Church history waiting for him to explore.

On Trending with Timmerie, Timmerie shared a pretty shocking story about Rocky legend, Sylvester Stallone. Turns out, his mom actually tried to abort him!  Let that sink in for a moment. It's a heartbreaking testimony, especially when you think about who Stallone is today, and it was especially powerful for Timmerie because of an encounter she had with him years ago. She shares some reflections below, and some of the content may not be suitable for sensitive ears.    Flashback to 10-15 years ago—Timmerie was doing some pro-life work in Beverly Hills.  Suddenly, this car pulls up, and who steps out? Sylvester Stallone! He didn't say anything, but he looked at them, smiled, and gave them a thumbs up. Timmerie learned through that encounter that he was pro-life. This story makes Sylvester's revelation all the more inspirational.    So, Stallone was on his daughters' podcast, and he opened up about his rough childhood. His mom, Jackie, had a really traumatic upbringing—she grew up in a super abusive orphanage and was just never able to show love or even handle being touched. Because of all the hurt she carried, she tried multiple times to end her pregnancy with Stallone. But he made it through—talk about a miracle, right?   What's really sad is that Stallone grew up thinking that avoiding physical touch was normal because of how distant his mom was. It wasn't until much later in life that he realized how much it all affected him. But here's the thing—after being away from the Catholic Church for years, Stallone found his way back when his daughter was born with health issues. Timmerie explains that he surrendered, and his faith became his anchor.   This isn't just a Hollywood star's story. It's the reality that so many people face—being unwanted, and maybe you can relate to this. It might be difficult to deal with whatever your current situation is, but God can help you. Your faith can transform even the darkest, most broken situations. God heals us in ways that defy our understanding.   Stallone's story shows us that no matter how wounded we are, there's always hope. We can find forgiveness, healing, and redemption through Christ, no matter the struggles or scars we carry.

While they were reading together, the little guy figured out something big: since the Church is the "Bride of Christ," that must be why only men can be priests—because, in his words, “they can't marry another bride.”   Patrick was seriously impressed. He explained that the boy is actually on to something really deep. The idea is that priests represent Christ, who is the Bridegroom, and the Church is His Bride. So, just like in marriage, there's a special relationship between Christ (represented by the priest) and the Church. This means the priesthood has to be reserved for men to keep that intact.   Patrick also brought up a Catholic theologian, Dr. Joyce Little, who wrote about this topic. It's called Women and Ordination, available here.   Annette's son might just be a little genius! Who knows? Patrick says he could be the next St. Thomas Aquinas!    Sometimes, kids can hit on some seriously deep truths without even realizing it!

So, what's going on?   Is It Just the Economy, or Is There More?    Sure, the economy's tough, housing prices are through the roof, and student debt is a beast. But is that the whole story? Drew wonders if there's something deeper going on. Are today's young adults sticking around home because it's just too cozy and safe? And are parents maybe making it a little too easy for them to stay?    Dave Durand's Take    To get to the bottom of this, Drew brings in Dave Durand, a guy who knows a thing or two about raising kids. Dave thinks there's a fine line between helping out and holding them back. They point out that parents might be overprotecting their kids, doing so much for them that they miss out on important life lessons—like how to fail and bounce back. This could be why we're seeing so much anxiety among young folks today.   Dave talks about how he handled things with his own kids. His approach? Clear expectations: once you're 18, it's time to start adulting—whether that means moving out or going to college. It's all about getting them ready for the real world.    What's the Bigger Picture Here?    Drew and Dave also chat about what this trend might mean for the future of families, communities, and even the Church. So, Patrick dives into a question from Bonnie, who's curious about those intriguing near-death experiences where people claim they've seen heaven or even Jesus himself.  The big question she asks: What does the Catholic Church think about these experiences?   Patrick starts by acknowledging that, throughout history, there have been countless reports of near-death experiences (NDEs). People often describe floating above their bodies, seeing a bright light, or even meeting Jesus. While these stories are fascinating, Patrick reminds us that the Church approaches them with cautious curiosity.   He breaks down the possibilities into three "buckets":   Imagination at Work: Patrick notes that our brains are powerful and can create vivid experiences, especially when we're unconscious or close to death. Some NDEs might just be a result of our minds going into overdrive.   Body-Soul Separation: The Church teaches that death occurs when the soul leaves the body. Patrick speculates that some NDEs might be a glimpse of the soul lingering just before fully detaching from the body. This could explain those heightened senses or out-of-body perspectives some people report.   Genuine Afterlife Encounters: Then, there's the possibility that some people really do get a sneak peek into the afterlife. Patrick mentions biblical examples like Lazarus, who was truly dead before Jesus brought him back to life. However, he also warns that not all these experiences are heavenly. St. Teresa of Avila, for example, had a terrifying vision of sliding down a slimy tunnel toward hell—a wake-up call for her to change her life.   Finally, Patrick adds a word of caution: If someone's NDE contradicts Church teachings or the Bible—like claiming everyone goes to heaven, regardless of faith—that could be a red flag that the experience might be more demonic than divine.    In the end, while some NDEs might be genuine, many could just be products of imagination or even spiritual deception. The key litmus test? Always check if these experiences align with what Jesus and the Church teach. If not, it's probably best to approach them with a healthy dose of skepticism.

n this episode of The Patrick Madrid Show, Patrick takes on a curious question from Javier in San Antonio: Did Adam and Eve actually need to eat to stay alive before "the fall?"   Patrick breaks it down by saying that the Catholic Church doesn't have a solid, definite answer on this, so it's something we can speculate about. He mentions that St. Thomas Aquinas talked about this in his Summa Theologica. St. Aquinas seems to indicate that in the Garden of Eden, eating wasn't about survival—it was all about enjoyment.    Patrick goes on to explain that before "the fall", life was all about enjoying God's creation and following His command. No hard work, no stress—just pure bliss with everything they needed at their fingertips. Of course, after "the fall", everything changed, and life got a lot harder. Patrick assumes that because Adam and Eve had regular human bodies, they probably did all the normal human things—like eating and digesting food.   Patrick also suggests checking out Pope Benedict XVI's book, In the Beginning, if you're into looking deeper into the creation story. It's got some great insights on Genesis and how we fit into the big picture.   So, while we don't have a definite answer, it's pretty interesting to imagine how Adam and Eve lived in total harmony before things went south.

John from Chanhassen, Minnesota, called in with a really great question that might have crossed your mind: How do we know that Jesus' consecration at the Last Supper wasn't just a one-time thing, and how does it connect to every Mass since then?    Patrick really dug into this one, turning to the Gospels—Matthew, Mark, and Luke—to show us that when Jesus said, “Do this in remembrance of me,” He wasn't just telling the Apostles to act it out. He was commanding them to actually make the Eucharist happen just as He did, transforming the bread and wine into His Body and Blood. This isn't just some symbolic gesture; it's the real deal. St. Paul even backs this up in 1 Corinthians 11, where he warns about the serious consequences of receiving the Eucharist unworthily. If it were just a symbol, why would St. Paul say that you could bring judgment on yourself by not recognizing the Lord in the Eucharist? That's pretty heavy stuff, right?    Patrick also pointed out that this belief isn't something the Church made up later—it's been there from the start, backed by the early Church Fathers. But then came the Protestant Reformation, and that's where things started to diverge. Martin Luther, for example, introduced this idea of consubstantiation—basically, that Christ's presence is alongside the bread and wine, not actually replacing them. It was a bit off from Catholic teaching, but still closer than what others like John Calvin believed. And that's how we ended up with all these different interpretations today.   To wrap things up, Patrick recommended a fantastic book called The Hidden Manna by Father James O'Connor. If you're curious about what the Bible and the Church Fathers really say about the Eucharist, and how the Reformers lost their way on this, it's definitely worth checking out.

In this episode of Trending with Timmerie, Timmerie sits down with Dr. John Di Camillo from the National Catholic Bioethics Center to tackle a tough, emotional, and deeply ethical question: What do you do if you've repented from using IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) and now have frozen embryos?    First, Why Is IVF a Problem?  Timmerie briefly recaps why the Church opposes IVF. The main issue? IVF bypasses the sacredness of life created through the marital act, introduces potential abortions through "selective reduction," and often results in children never knowing their biological parents.    Okay, So What About Those Frozen Embryos?  This is where it gets really tricky. Dr. Di Camillo explains that the Church sees this situation as one of deep injustice—one that doesn't have a clear-cut solution. He admits it's a struggle, both for the parents and the ethicists advising them. The Church has outlined what cannot be done, such as:   Using the embryos for research or experimentation - (they're not "material").   Discarding the embryos carelessly (e.g., down the drain).   Using surrogates to gestate these embryos (another big no-no).   But What Can Be Done? Dr. Di Camillo brings up a few options that, while not definitively endorsed by the Church, haven't been ruled out either:   Thawing the embryos with the view that cryopreservation might be an extraordinary means of care, followed by a respectful burial.    Prenatal adoption, where a non-infertile couple might gestate and raise the child—not as a treatment for infertility, but to save the child's life.    Gestating the child themselves (if it's their biological child), thus giving their own child a chance to be born and raised within their marriage.    Timmerie and Dr. Di Camillo remind us that none of these options are easy, and none are perfect solutions. But they are ways to approach an incredibly challenging situation with as much moral clarity as possible.   Final Thoughts The Church urges us to adhere to God's plan for creating life within marriage. When we try to "play God," we often end up in heartbreaking dilemmas like this. The key takeaway? Support your loved ones struggling with infertility by guiding them toward ethical solutions and remaining steadfast in your faith.    For more insights or to seek personal advice, Dr. Di Camillo and his team can be reached through the National Catholic Bioethics Center.

Patrick Madrid tackles a question from Jay in Madison, Wisconsin. Jay has a bit of a dilemma: his relatives, despite being wonderful people and regular churchgoers, keep tossing out the "my body, my choice" line when it comes to abortion. So, how does he respond?    Here's Patrick's Take:   Thought-Stopping Slogan: Patrick points out that "my body, my choice" is really just a way to shut down the conversation. It's meant to stop you in your tracks and avoid any deeper thinking. It's more of a slogan than an actual argument. So don't let them stop you from speaking the truth in love.    Unborn Child's Right to Life: He makes it clear that if it were truly about someone's own body, then it would be the person themselves who dies, not the unborn child. The fact is that the unborn child is a separate entity with his or her own right to life.    Biological Facts: Patrick doesn't shy away from science. He points out that if the unborn child were just part of the mother's body, we wouldn't be able to harvest organs from it. Clearly, there's a distinct body.    Inconvenience vs. Obligation: He acknowledges that pregnancy can be inconvenient, but there's a profound obligation to care for the unborn child. Temporary inconvenience is nothing compared to the precious gift of life.    Consistency in Beliefs: Patrick then takes a clever turn. He asks if these same relatives were all about mask-wearing during COVID for the greater good. If so, how is it any different when it comes to protecting the unborn? It's a compelling way to show the inconsistency in their logic.    Scientific Evidence: To wrap it up, Patrick stresses that life begins at conception – a fact supported by science. There's even a fascinating phenomenon where a flash of light is observed at the moment of fertilization. Life is truly a miracle!    So, what do you think? Patrick's advice is to stand firm, speak the truth with love, and trust that in time, these conversations might plant seeds that grow into a change of heart.    Keep the faith and keep the conversation going!
