Subscribe to PG's Channel: http://bit.ly/SubscribePGYouTubeThe Food Stamps have been cooking onstage behind the redheaded songwriter pretty much since he left Appalachia and began touring as a full unit. These loyal road dogs have worn the rubber off the tires touring with Mr. Childers. First, they were strictly a live band enlisted to recreate and recharge the material from his first three studio albums Bottles and Bibles (2011), Purgatory (2017), and Country Squire (2019). But with the last two studio records—the triple-album, gospel-country opus Can I Take My Hounds to Heaven? and last year's classic-meets-contemporary Rustin' in the Rain—the Food Stamps went from being his road-warrior comrades to eating big time alongside their leader onstage and in the studio. During Childers' headlining arena run and before his second sold-out night at the Bridgestone Arena in downtown Nashville, the Food Stamps' CJ Cain (acoustic/electric guitar/mandolin), Jesse Wells (electric guitar/mandola/banjo/baritone/fiddle), James Barker (guitar/pedal-steel), and Craig Burletic (electric bass/double bass) invited PG's Perry Bean inside their “living room” stage set. When we last chatted with them in 2019, the boys were burning through the small-club circuit with many of the same tone tools still in their rig today, but as venues grow and tours extend, gear needs change and the arsenal capacity increases. In this hour-long Rundown, we cover all their fresh friends, old standbys, and everything else these four buckaroos require to make music that matters. We have a special show tonight to celebrate the start of our 12th year. In lieu of an interview, Brian will be joined by another popular pipe podcast host - Jon David Cole. JD is the Owner/Tobacconist at The Country Squire in Jackson, MS, and he is the former co-host of the now discontinued podcast, Country Squire Radio. Country Squire Radio ran for 10-years and is still one of the most popular pipe-niche podcasts. Having these two pipe and tobacco brainiacs bouncing off of each other for over 45-minutes will be a blast. We will be preempting our usual first segment to start right off with JD. We will have the usual music, mailbag and rant at the end of the show.

There was a big event to close out the show that we'll hear about, as well as JD's first experience as a vendor at the recent Chicago pipe show. At the top of the show, we'll have an extended “Pipe parts” discussion with two user submitted questions – one about aging tobaccos and if there's any difference between topped and non-topped tobaccos related to aging, and the other asking for suggestions on how to slow one's pipe puffing cadence.

Our featured interview tonight is with Dan Croxall. This is the third in our series of interviews with "Journeymen Pipe Smokers" - guys that have been smoking pipes between five and 10 years. Dan is a professor at his alma mater, the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. Prior to returning to academia, Dan practiced law at the world's largest law firm (DLA Piper LLP) as a complex civil litigator and white-collar criminal defense attorney. He then opened the world's smallest law firm (Croxall Law) in 2013 to focus his practice on representing California Craft breweries and related parties. At the top of the show, Brian will have a trip report on his visit to Jackson, MS to The Country Squire for the party and last recording of the Country Squire Radio Podcast.
Our featured interview tonight is with Jon David Cole. JD is the Owner/Tobacconist at The Country Squire in Jackson, MS, and he is the co-host of the podcast, Country Squire Radio. After a 10-year run, and approaching their 500th episode, it was announced that they would record their last episode live on March 4 at a big party in Jackson, MS. In addition to talking about the podcast and the retail store, our main discussion will be JD's recommended pipe tobaccos in each genre that are readily available for purchase, as opposed to vintage collectible tobaccos that are hard to get. At the top of the show, Brian will answer a question on how to proceed when your friend wants to try smoking a pipe for the first time.
What would a pipe tobacco podcast be without a good deal of pipe tobacco reviews? Loose leaf, tin, and even the hard to find stuff will all find their way into our pipes and into our heads as we review the entirety of each pipe tobacco from the packaging, marketing, tin note, texture, flavor, and smoke. I'm really excited to try out blending with some better knowledge now. A month ago, I took about 3 pounds of various high quality tobaccos that didn't make the rotation, mixed them all up, and pressed them in the “poor man's press” y'all talked about in a previous episode. It's ready to come out now so I'll send some along soon. Let me know what you think. That reminds me, someone asked you about making a highland grog coffee flavored tobacco on an episode recently, and you confessed to not knowing what that was. So, I'm sending you a bag of both kinds of highland grog that I know of. Let me know what you think eh? At the end of the episode in blending, I had one question for you, what are the general ratios for the different “standard” blends? English, aromatic, VaPer, Virginia etc - Thanks for all you do, please keep it up! - Gabriel Roper Quickfire Questions: Back to your childhood (Joda):Action figures or Legos riding your bike or playing outside gamesbreakfast cereal or Eggo waffles Saturday morning cartoons or sleeping inPower Rangers or Teenage Mutant Ninja TurtlesListener Feedback: Hi JD and Beau, - I just finished listening to the vintage tin art episode and was surprised to find out that I have actually tried a tobacco that neither of you have. I am speaking about the 5 Brothers, I was a bit surprised that given how long it's been around you haven't had it, so I thought that this time the listener could advised the hosts. In my experience 5 Brothers is best in a small corn cob pipe like the short stop or Morgan from Missouri Meerschaum. The reason behind this is 5 Brothers is a very strong nicotine forward blend and is best enjoyed in small amounts. This last piece of advice regarding 5 Brothers is crucial, do not smoke it in your home. I have a very understanding wife in regards to my pipe smoking and doesn't mind when I partake in the leaf, except this one, it's the only blend I have that I am 100% forbidden to smoke in the house due to how close it smells to cigarettes. Anyway keep up the good work with the show and I'm looking forward to hearing the next episode. - Dave aka DRAlienAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

I have a question regarding cellaring tobacco in warmer climates such as Japan. I put my tobaccos in glass mason jars, but unfortunately as my air conditioning is not running all the time every square inch of my house becomes really warm, even my dark cupboards out of the way. Will this affect the aging progress of the tobacco and is there anything I can do? Hope you both are having a great week - Charlie from JapanQuickfire Questions: bookstore edition (Joda):Shiny and new books or old and musty bookspaperback or hardback cat in the hat or green eggs and ham e-book or physical book Heavily illustrated or pop-up bookListener Feedback: Francois Cardier (patron) - Hello! I cant believe It took this long for me to find the show. You guys are great.Randy Westbrook - Absolutely loved the getting started for $1000 episode! Wasn't sure when I read title but it was great! Had to think about my collection. Glad I bought my first meerschaum at the Squire when I was there last February! One of my favorite pipes!
