Send us a textWelcome Micah!Discovering the Legacy of William Grant & Sons: A Journey Through WhiskeyNestled in the heart of Scotland, William Grant & Sons is synonymous with quality and craftsmanship in the whiskey industry. As the third-largest producer of Scotch whisky globally, the company has a rich heritage and a passion for distilling that spans over a century. Let's delve into what makes William Grant & Sons a standout in the world of spirits and uncover some intriguing stories behind their distillery. The story of William Grant is deeply intertwined with Scottish heritage. Descended from Clan Grant, known for its involvement in the Jacobite rebellion, William Grant's lineage adds a layer of intrigue to the distillery's narrative. One notable ancestor, Alexander Grant, famously escaped the battle of Culloden, embarking on a journey that would eventually lead to the creation of exceptional whiskey.William Grant & Sons began its journey in 1887 with the distillation of Glenfiddich, which has since become one of the most recognizable single malt Scotch whiskies in the world. Following its success, the distillery expanded its portfolio to include Balvenie, showcasing its commitment to quality craftsmanship and tradition.Today, the distillery boasts an impressive range of brands, including:Fistful of Bourbon: Their only bourbon, crafted with a unique blend of five straight bourbons.Hendrick's Gin: An innovative spirit that combines cucumber and rose, redefining classic gin.Tellamour DEW: Acquired for €171 million in 2010, adding a distinctive flavor to their collection.Famous Grouse and Naked Malt: Popular choices among whiskey enthusiasts.Among the standout offerings from William Grant & Sons is Monkey Shoulder, a blended malt Scotch whisky that was introduced to the market in 2003. It's crafted from a mix of three signature single malts, making it a delightful middle ground between single malt and blended Scotch. What sets it apart: Unlike blended Scotch, which can include grain whisky, Monkey Shoulder is strictly a blended malt, ensuring a richness and depth of flavor that appeals to many palates.Perfect PairingsFor those looking to elevate their Monkey Shoulder experience, consider pairing it with Cornell & Diehl's Crosseyed Cricket pipe tobacco. This combination allows for a delightful exploration of flavors, enhancing the whiskey's richness.ConclusionWilliam Grant & Sons is not just a distillery; it's a testament to the artistry, heritage, and spirit of Scotland. From its storied past with Clan Grant to its impressive lineup of whiskies, including the delightful Monkey Shoulder, the distillery invites you to explore and savor its offerings.Research Sourceshttps://www.monkeyshoulder.com/en-us https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monkey_Shoulder https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Support the showWebsite:www.whiskeychaserspod.comFacebook:https://www.facebook.com/whiskeychaserspodcastInsta:https://www.instagram.com/whiskeychaserspodcast/TikTok:https://www.tiktok.com/@whiskeychaserspodcastThanks For Listening!

Our featured guest on tonight's show is Canadian pipe maker Evan Wiseman. Evan has been making pipes for ten years (minus a two year break) and is quite well-known and respected in the field. At the top of the show we will have an Ask the Tobacco Blender segment with Jeremy Reeves. We honor the life and ministry of Dr. Jim Diehl (1937-2025), a beloved pastor, district superintendent, and General Superintendent Emeritus of the Church of the Nazarene. Dr. Diehl passed away on November 2, 2025. Just days before his passing, on October 30, he traveled to Nampa, Idaho, to preach at Bethel Church of the Nazarene for the Holiness Partnership event. This episode features that powerful message. Dr. Diehl preaches on the Christian life as a journey that goes far beyond a single moment of decision. He outlines three key prayers that define this lifelong walk: "Lord, forgive me" (repentance), "Lord, take me" (consecration), and "Lord, make me" (the ongoing work of sanctification). Using his trademark warmth and personal stories, Dr. Diehl explains how God continually works to "pull the stumps" of things like prejudice, impatience, and fear from our lives, shaping us into more Christ-like individuals. Overholt & Co., currently a subsidiary of Beam Suntory, which is a subsidiary of Suntory Holdings of Osaka, Japan. It is currently distilled at the Jim Beam distillery in Clermont, KYHenry Oberholzer (Anglicized to “Overholt”), a German Mennonite farmer, moved to West Overton, Pennsylvania, on the banks of Jacobs Creek in Western Pennsylvania in 1800. His family came from the area of Germany which specialized in distilling “korn”, or rye whiskey, and Henry took up the tradition. In 1810, Henry's son took over the management of the distillery and made it into a business. By the 1820s, the distillery was putting out 12 to 15 gallons of rye whiskey per day. By 1859, Overholt incorporated his business as “A. Overholt & Co.” He operated out of a new distillery building that was six stories high, 100 feet long, and which could produce 860 gallons per day.Old Overholt was one of six distilleries allowed to continue issuing bottled-in-bond, government stamped, pints with a dosage cup atop the cap and doctor's prescription attached to the back.Maybe because Andrew Mellon was a partner in the business and he was the secretary of the treasury under HardingMellon Sold his shares in 1925 due to concerns from prohabisionists Beam bought out the old overholt in 1986, when they made the purchase of Dekuyper Peachtree Schnapps. Jeffrey Diehl, Managing Partner and Head of Investments at Adams Street Partners, joins the InsuranceAUM.com podcast to explore whether the rapid growth of private credit platforms, particularly BDCs and insurer-owned portfolios, is creating systemic risk or sustainable opportunity. In this candid conversation with host Stewart Foley, Diehl explains how deployment pressure, the rise of PIK loans, and reduced underwriting discipline could challenge returns in an overheated segment of the market. He also unpacks the scale of capital flowing through these platforms, the structural differences between perpetual BDCs and traditional private credit funds, and what red flags insurance investors should be monitoring. For anyone allocating to private credit, or evaluating manager selection, this episode offers timely, practical insight into how scaling may impact risk, performance, and long-term portfolio outcomes.
Philip Diehl reacts to Friday's CPI report and what it means for the Fed. He anticipates at least two 25 basis point rate cuts this year, with another 1-2 next year as the “base case.” However, until we get more clarification around private credit risks, “we don't know what that course will be” beyond October. He warns though that those cuts won't drive the market higher. Philip expects the dollar to continue to weaken and talks about momentum in the gold trade; he thinks people are “underestimating the vulnerability of the market.”======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Subscribe to the Market Minute newsletter - https://schwabnetwork.com/subscribeDownload the iOS app - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/schwab-network/id1460719185Download the Amazon Fire Tv App - https://www.amazon.com/TD-Ameritrade-Network/dp/B07KRD76C7Watch on Sling - https://watch.sling.com/1/asset/191928615bd8d47686f94682aefaa007/watchWatch on Vizio - https://www.vizio.com/en/watchfreeplus-exploreWatch on DistroTV - https://www.distro.tv/live/schwab-network/Follow us on X – https://twitter.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/schwab-network/About Schwab Network - https://schwabnetwork.com/about

We have a tobacco packed show for you tonight. First, Brian will go deep on aging and cellaring tobaccos. Then instead of the usual shorter recurring segment of "Ask the Blender" with Jeremy Reeves of Cornell & Diehl, we will have Q&A with him for the longer main segment of the show. We asked you to send questions about tobacco and we got enough for an extended segment. We also found some old ones that fell through the cracks. After the music and mailbag segments, Brian has a tobacco related rant as well.
