As humans, we all crave the need for drama. Drama can give us excitement and a sense of fun. We can either meet this need resourcefully or unresourcefully. Explore with JJ how we can understand the pitfalls of unresourcefully meeting our need for drama and how we can meet our needs resourcefully. “A rumor is a social cancer: it is difficult to contain and it rots the brains of the masses. However, the real danger is that so many people find rumors enjoyable. That part causes the infection. And in such cases when a rumor is only partially made of truth, it is difficult to pinpoint exactly where the information may have gone wrong. It is passed on and on until some brave soul questions its validity; that brave soul refuses to bite the apple and let the apple eat him. Forced to start from scratch for the sake of purity and truth, that brave soul, figuratively speaking, fully amputates the information in order to protect his personal judgment. In other words, his ignorance is to be valued more than the lie believed to be true.” ― Criss Jami, Killosophy "Gossip ends at a wise person's ears." - Unknown --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/janelle-johnston/message

"The writer's curse is that even in solitude, no matter its duration, he never grows lonely or bored." -Criss Jami. Rather than seeing the 2020 turbulence as a purely negative, like so many people around us, how, as authors we can embrace the chaos and use it to create good! To say that one waits a lifetime for his soulmate to come around is a paradox. People eventually get sick of waiting, take a chance on someone, and by the art of commitment become soulmates, which takes a lifetime to perfect. Criss Jami, Venus in Arms

Criss Jami stated in her book Killosophy: “The whole war between the atheist and the theist comes down to this: the atheist believes a ‘what’ created the universe; the theist believes a ‘who’ did.” She is right. The cultural war going on now between the secular world and the church is rooted in what we believe about the creation. The atheist wants nothing to do with the creator, so they rule him out as the creator. Instead, they give that […]
What is vulnerability? And why is it important for each of us to be vulnerable? I quote the writings of Brené Brown, Paulo Coelho, Criss Jami, Stephen Russell and Frank Crane before summing up the discussion of it all. REFLECTION QUOTES “We demand too much of life, too little of ourselves.” ~Christopher Lasch (1932-1994) in The Culture of Narcissism: American Life in an Age of Diminishing Expectations “All people know the same truth. Our lives consist of how we choose to distort it.” “You expect the world to adjust…to the distortion you've become.” ~From the Woody Allen film “Deconstructing Harry” “The funny thing about the heart is a soft heart is a strong heart, and a hard heart is a weak heart.” ~Criss Jami, author and poet “…the Church itself is going to have to become more authentic morally, for the greatness of the Gospel is now seen to have become quite trivial and inconsequential in its life. If the Gospel means so little to the Church, if it changes so little, why then should unbelievers believe it?” ~David F. Wells, author and theologian in Losing Our Virtue “[People today] don't think, believe or reckon. They ‘feel like.' Listen for this phrase and you'll hear it everywhere.… For decades, Americans have been in the process of abandoning both the moral strictures of religion and the Enlightenment quest for universal truth in favor of obsessing over their own internal states and well-being…. This quest to understand and cope with our own feelings and desires — the current term of art is ‘self-care' — can lead to what the writer Christopher Lasch called ‘pseudo-self-awareness.' It can leave us too preoccupied with personal satisfaction to see the world clearly. ‘The new narcissist is haunted not by guilt but by anxiety.'” ~Molly Worthen, UNC history professor in a New York Times article, “Stop Saying ‘I Feel Like'” “There are many ways to fall down, but there's only one way to stand up straight.” ~G.K. Chesterton (1874-1936), English writer and journalist SERMON PASSAGE Jude (ESV) 1 Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and brother of James, To those who are called, beloved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ: 2 May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you. 3 Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints. 4 For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. 5 Now I want to remind you, although you once fully knew it, that Jesus, who saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. 6 And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day— 7 just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire. 8 Yet in like manner these people also, relying on their dreams, defile the flesh, reject authority, and blaspheme the glorious ones. 9 But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, was disputing about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment, but said, “The Lord rebuke you.” 10 But these people blaspheme all that they do not understand, and they are destroyed by all that they, like unreasoning animals, understand instinctively. 11 Woe to them! For they walked in the way of Cain and abandoned themselves for the sake of gain to Balaam's error and perished in Korah's rebellion. 12 These are hidden reefs at your love feasts, as they feast with you without fear, shepherds feeding themselves; waterless clouds, swept along by winds; fruitless trees in late autumn, twice dead, uprooted; 13 wild waves of the sea, casting up the foam of their own shame; wandering stars, for whom the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved forever. 14 It was also about these that Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of his holy ones, 15 to execute judgment on all and to convict all the ungodly of all their deeds of ungodliness that they have committed in such an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.” 16 These are grumblers, malcontents, following their own sinful desires; they are loud-mouthed boasters, showing favoritism to gain advantage. 17 But you must remember, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. 18 They said to you, “In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.” 19 It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit. 20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. 22 And have mercy on those who doubt; 23 save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh. 24 Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, 25 to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.

"Old words are reborn with new faces." – Criss Jami, Killosophy
It was Criss Jami who once said, “The biggest challenge after success is shutting up about it!” Jami is right; we love to brag about ourselves, don’t we? And the Bible is clear that “tooting our horn” about our own successes and good deeds is wrong. But that doesn’t mean that we are never to brag. As we will see in our study today, “biblical bragging” – where we brag about the good things the Lord is doing in our […]
