Send us a text#332 - There are long races, Cocodona 350, Vol State 500k, and then there's the Sri Chinmoy Self-Transcendence 3100 Mile Race. This race is like no other. It is as much a personal journey into self discovery as it is a foot race. But it is still a race and if you decide this is the race for you, it will push you farther than you have ever been before. And if you complete it, you may find yourself returning year after year. Those who do it every year, return again and again. This week, I talk about why this race is so special and how it stands apart from all other footraces. All links are on the show website. Fit, Healthy & Happy Podcast Welcome to the Fit, Healthy and Happy Podcast hosted by Josh and Kyle from Colossus...Listen on: Apple Podcasts SpotifySupport the showMartha Runs the World websitehttps://www.martharunstheworld.com/Email:martharunstheworld@gmail.comInstagram:https://www.instagram.com/martharunstheworld/#

Narada Michael Walden Live on Game Changers With Vicki Abelson Wow! I've seen hundreds of photos, loads of videos - I've never seen Narada Michael Walden in an orange bowler. When was the last time I wore orange? InSync! From the first moment to the last, what a glorious, grateful, exuberant lovefest. Narada is as passionate, fun, inviting, and accessible as his music. We talked about his first paper drumkit at 5, how he watched, listened, and learned from his heroes. How the soul sounds of Detroit shaped him, how it's all soul sounds. From his first band at 11 to the Mahavishnu Orchestra, which would change his life in all ways… adding prayer. mediation, service, and Narada to his name, gifted by his guru, Sri Chinmoy, thanks to John McLaughlin, and of course, the music, following in Billy Cobham's big footsteps, touring with Jeff Beck, then recording Wired with him, writing “material” for the album, the full circle back to Beck a decade ago and the story behind their masterpiece version of Little Wing. Ah me! How playing transitioned to producing, inspired by Quincy Jones to service other artists, and the superstar women he championed to great heights - Aretha with their Grammy Song of The Year, Freeway of Love, Whitney with their 6 number one hits including their Grammy Winning Album of the Year, Mariah, with musical knowledge to match her musical chops. We talked our friend, Allee Willis, Keith Moon, Ringo, Jaco, Carlos, Sting, Trudy, Stevie, Marvin, Cissy, his last tour with Journey, and how his devotion to his wife and children brought him home. This very morning Narada was up at 6 readying his kids for school and then driving them there. This interview was held early so that he'd be home when they got home. Quite a man. Respect. For a taste of what Narada himself is up to musically, check out his The More I Love My Life https://bfan.link/the-more-i-love-my-life with Sting, Carlos, and Stevie, I can't stop listening! It seems to so sum up this man of grace. And while you're at it, watch this - and tear yourself away, if you can! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9UQbf_VoQI Perfection! Jeff, Narada, and Rhonda, do Jimi proud. This is a man as comfortable with pop, soul, funk, rock, and blues as he is with fusion. Brilliant with them all. Loving and appreciating them all, and, as his audience, I'll gratefully follow him to any of them. I loved every second in Narada's most excellent company. Grateful girl!  For sure not, if we compare how much time we lose on our smartphone, tablet or PC...If we want to gain faith in God or even better to connect to God, we have to do much more. Without surrendering to God, we can't achieve that. For instance, I have decided for myself to live a religious life, this means, to be honest, to care for people and to surrender my life to God. On the other hand, the great religious leaders have total failed, remember the sex scandals from the Catholic Church...The pastors sexual abused the kids and no punishment so that 50% of the American Catholics left the church...(Pope Benedict resigned because he was facing criminal charges by the People's Common Law for crimes against humanity perpetrated by the Vatican church. Slaughter of innocent Native children in Canada, poisoning of populations, human trafficking, child torture, and many more things.) For the Dalai Lama, everything is good,… Chögyam Trungpa for instance, the famous Meditation Master, died from liver cirrhoses because of his alcohol consume!!! Wealthy families are buying a Lama title for their first child; Rinpoches (high religious leaders) procreate secretly or openly their own kids, and for sure their children are Rinpoches, or you can buy this title… Today after a 6-week meditation course you can teach meditation… I can't understand that the monks eat animals, beat children who like to become monks; and at the same time saying, they have compassion for every being. The sex and corruption scandals of the Thai monks are normal. The Hindu Guru sex and corruption scandals are devastating, read the books: “Holly Hell” (over Mata Amritananda Mai Devi)  or “Cartwheels in a Sari” (over Sri Chinmoy). India is the biggest slaughterhouse in the world. And even for the Indian Hindus, it is forbidden to eat and kill animals. For the Muslim in the Turkey, it is recently allowed to marry girls under 16 and to have sex with them and why death penalty for girls who had approached a man in Iran without sex...? The German's young girls are afraid to go alone out, because of the Syrian refugees in Germany who are raping them. For the Muslim men in worse Muslim Countries, women/girls have no rights, no soul...Why are the religious leaders against SEX, even they have SEX secretly and abuse us when we enjoy SEX? SEX has nothing to do with GOD, Religion!!!! The basic fundamentals of any Religion are, to be honest, to care for the divine/God/Allah and to care for the people. If we see the whole picture:With all these abusing of God, Religion, Sex (double moral). Enjoying brutal, rude movies. Making wars just out of fun. Printing money like crazy…  What can we expect for our future? Do you really think that God will help and protect us under these circumstances? If God would have created a perfect world, who would think any more of God. Founded in 1997 by Sri Chinmoy, the self-transcendence event is the world's longest-certified race, although the course itself may surprise you.    Sri Chinmoy was an Indian spiritual leader who moved to New York City in 1964 to teach meditation and spirituality. He lived a life dedicated to serving humanity, and he was also an athlete who valued athletics as an essential piece of a balanced spiritual life. He created the Sri Chinmoy marathon team, which has grown into athletes and racing events all over the world. This episode was recorded at the Sri Chinmoy Center in San Diego after Jess, BJ, and Harita shared a beautiful lunch at Jyoti-Bihanga, the oldest vegetarian restaurant in San Diego and a part of the center. If you are ever in the area, make sure to put Jyoti-Bihanga on your list of dining musts. Your listenership is greatly appreciated; thank you for tuning in. In this episode, we chat about all things meditation and The New Guided Minds Meditation Teacher Training Course at the NCCH.Neil our meditation teacher began his journey to spiritual freedom in November 2017 beginning with Meditation classes. The joy and blissful state of being that Neil began to experience with meditation was more than enough to convince him that life is a truly magical gift and that the changes to come would be for the highest good of himself and all his relations.Meditation reconnected Neil with his creative spirit and this took him to sing in concerts in Italy, the Czech Republic, Macedonia, and New York City as well as bringing an abundance of joy to his life. His dedication to meditation under the spiritual guidance of Sri Chinmoy enabled him to flip unhealthy and addictive behaviours bringing centredness and grounding to his whole life. Before meditation, his life was extreme but he found his 'here and now' on the middle path of enlightenment, and knowing this place of balance he lives a fully expressive and empowered life. Neil's exploration of the healing arts blossomed under the tutelage of Sheila Whittaker at the College of Sound Healing,  Suzy Crockford for Ancient Ways, Leo Rutherford for his expertise on the teachings of the Medicine Wheel, and in addition Angelic Reiki, Cacao Ceremony Facilitation, Ho'oponopono, Mindfulness, Hatha Yoga and most recently with the guiding light of Hypnotherapy, Amanda Joy at the Northern College of Clinical Hypnotherapy. All of the teachings Neil receives, he shares in facilitating and holding space for his events with The Soul Sound Spirit www.thesoulsoundspirit.com.Neil loves to share sound healing and meditation in his spare time he performs at festivals and concerts and has performed at the Yoga Show in Alexandra Palace, The Durham Festival of Well being and Ferne Cotton's Happy Place Festival, and many more to come! Citações e trechos do livro “The Wings of Joy”, de Sr. Chinmoy.

Wolf and Haddy catch up with Steve Redfern for a live recording at Runnulla, hosted by the Godfather Sean Tindale. Steve chats about his participation in the Sri Chinmoy Self Transcendence 3100 Mile Race, which takes place each year in NY. It involves running around a half mile block in Queens, from 6am to midnight each day for 52 days, to achieve 3100 miles or 4989km! The journey was eventful, he lost 80% feeling in his feet and toes and was still recovering six months after the race! We also discuss his debut in the Barkley Marathons, one of the more obscure Ultramarathons in the world, which took him eight years to get to the start line. The race requires the participants to complete 5 loops of 20 - 25 miles each, while searching for 13 books hidden throughout the course, each loop has about 5000m of elevation! If that's not hard enough, it was -9 deg C! Steve's a humble legend and we thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to interview him and share his stories.

Welcome back to The Big Run... Today, we are joined by, Sanjay Rawal.  Sanjay is an accomplished filmmaker, runner and proponent of meditation, spirituality and the teachings of Sri Chinmoy. In this conversation, we discuss how he discovered meditation, its benefits, and how it has helped him in his spiritual journey and his running.  We also share some tips on how to get started with meditation and how to make it a regular practice as well as talk about Sri Chinmoy.  Sri Chinmoy (1931-2007) was an Indian spiritual teacher, philosopher, and musician who emigrated to the United States in 1964. He founded the Sri Chinmoy Centre, an international organization that promotes meditation and self-development through spiritual practices, athletics and the arts. He wrote over 1,500 books on spiritual and philosophical topics and composed over 22,000 songs. Chinmoy was also a prolific artist and poet. He was a proponent of self-transcendence, the idea that individuals can transcend their own limitations through spiritual practice and service to others. He also promoted the idea of inner peace as the foundation for world peace and held events to promote peace such as peace meditations, peace concerts and peace runs. One of his most famous events is the 3100 aka the longest race in the world and the subject of Sanjay's documentary of the same name. The 3100 Race is a self-transcendence ultramarathon race held annually in New York City. The race is organized by the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team and is considered one of the longest-certified footraces in the world. The race starts on June 17th and runs for 52 days until August 7th, participants run as many miles as they can within this time frame. The 3100 Race is unique in that it is not a traditional race with a set distance or course. Instead, participants are given the opportunity to run as many miles as they can within the 52-day time frame. The goal of the race is for participants to push their own limits and "transcend" their previous personal bests. the documentary is available for streaming on the following platforms: Vimeo on Demand (https://vimeo.com/ondemand/3100) Amazon Prime Video (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QZJ9XRV) Google Play (https://play.google.com/store/movies/details?id=B07QZJ9XRV) Apple TV (https://tv.apple.com/us/movie/3100-run-and-become/umc.cmc.2mq8hgqwqcq3f6mqkj6q8zp9r) It's also possible to rent or buy the film on other platforms such as YouTube and Microsoft Store. It's worth checking the availability on streaming platforms in your country as they might have regional restrictions. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thebigrunpodcast/message

Welcome to the Peak Endurance podcast! Thank you for joining me today! Episode 181 is an interview with Stephen Redfern. I have interviewed Stephen a few times, documenting his massive runs. This interview looks at his most massive run to date! Stephen recently returned to Australia after participating in the Sri Chinmoy Self-Transcendence 3100-mile race. In 1997, the spiritual teacher, athlete, and humanitarian Sri Chinmoy founded the Self-Transcendence 3100-Mile Race. The race takes place annually, with runners running a .55-mile loop (or 880metres) 5,649 times around a sports field, playground, and high school in the New York City neighbourhood of Jamaica, Queens. Runners have 52 days to complete the 3,100 miles around the half-mile block. To complete the run within the allotted time frame, participants must average 60 miles (or 96.6kms) daily. The course opens each morning at 6 a.m. and closes at midnight, alternating directions each day, with the event being the longest certified road race in the world. Stephen and I discuss how he got into this epic race, what his goal was, how his race derailed and how he fought back to keep running. An unbelievable tale of persistence, resilience and ultimate self-triumph. Do you love the pod? I assume you do seeing as you are here with me today! Did you know that it is super easy to go onto Apple Podcasts and give the show 5 stars (if you think it deserves it, which I hope you do!!) and write a short review? Abhejali Bernardova (44, Czech Republic) of the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team completed an extreme ultra-triathlon from Dover to Prague, during which she covered a total of 1111 km across the 3 disciplines: 34 km swimming, 895 km cycling, 182 km running. It took her 7 days, 12 hours and 5 minutes.    She started on Monday September 13 2021 at 3am from Dover. In very challenging conditions, with the wind at force 5, she swam the English Channel in 15 hours and 33 minutes. The only other successful crossing on the same day was a 5-person relay team. It was her last chance to swim this year and the swim had already been postponed a few times.    Restrictions did not allow her to stay in France, so she had to take a detour back to Dover and then take a ferry to France. She then cycled from Calais to her hometown of Cheb, near the Czech/German border.    The cycling leg, which took her 4 days, was approximately 900 kilometres through France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. She arrived in Cheb on Saturday afternoon, then ran 182km to Prague, arriving on Monday afternoon. Her daily average was 220km cycling and 2 marathons running.    The Czech athlete successfully completed her first English Channel swim 10 years ago. In 2018 she became the 1st Czech, the 10th person in the world, 4th woman and the 1st person from a landlocked country to complete the Oceans Seven*, seven difficult long-distance swims around the world. She is also the only Czech holder of the Triple Crown** of long-distance swimming.    With her ultra-triathlon she aims to connect people and places and inspire others to break down and cross barriers in their own lives. If she can go from the UK to the Czech Republic under her own steam, then we really are closer to each other than we realise, we just put up unnecessary walls between us. She also tries to inspire others to overcome their own limits and show that these limits are often self-created.     (*) Oceans Seven include: English Channel, Gibraltrar Strait, Tsugaru Strait, Catalina Channel, Molokai Channel, North Channel, Cook Strait – all solo, non-wetsuit. Hello beautiful people On today's podcast we have the inspiring Stephen Redfern. Stephen started ultramarathon running at the age of 42. What drew Stephen to ultramarathon running was the discovery of the unknown; to discover who he is and what he is able to achieve. And achieve is certainly what Stephen has done. Some of his most notable achievements have been the Hong Kong Four Trails, which is a 298km self-supported run on all four major trails in Hong Kong where he ran through three separate sunrises, to running 11,500 laps of his garage totalling 360km in a 2020 lockdown challenge, to recently running a 655km solo 6-day ultramarathon around his local athletics track. What I personally love about this conversation is Stephen's openness about his self-exploration and discovery through running. He describes his younger years of being a more of a hot headed, negatively orientated boy who found himself utilising bushwalking as an outlet; and now through long-distance running has come into a space of calm and positivity. As a self-proclaimed loner, who struggled to get a few words out seven years ago, it is such a beautiful trajectory Stephen has been on to now not only be part of a highly supportive community, but a representative of such, that people come to, including myself, for running wisdom. And testament to this, he has been invited to the 3100 mile Sri Chinmoy event next year in Queens, New York, where he will be averaging 96km per day over 52 days, to run what is referred to as the race of self-transcendence. Here it is indeed that he will experience the ultimate pilgrimage of endurance and self-exploration. Ultrarunner and filmmaker Sanjay Rawal joins the Pain Cave to talk about his latest documentary, 3100: Run and Become. The movie follows competitors in the 2016 Self-Transcendence Run, a 3100-mile ultramarathon around a single city blog in Queens. In exploring the secret of what drives these runners, the film journeys to a Navajo reservation in Arizona, the Kalahari Desert in southern Africa, and the Buddhist temples deep in the mountains of Japan, to discover the spirituality that underlies the reasons why we run. Sanjay and I discuss Sri Chinmoy, the guru whose teachings inspired the Self-Transcendence Run, motivation, filming, multi-day racing, and how to find meaning in our running.LinksThe Self-Transcendence RunMore about Sri ChinmoySanjay's IMDB pageDesert Island Picks: The Complete Poems of Walt Whitman, Greatest Hits by The Cure, Bitburger Alcohol-free PilsIntro music: "Fine Line" by the BloodlettersOutro music: "When I Was Still Young" by Yard Sale
