Episode 203: We now stay in the world of the Elizabethan interpretation of classical history and myth with Ben Jonson's next play ‘Sejanus His Fall'. Rooted more firmly in history than myth Jonson's play uses the story of a power struggle motivated by personal ambition to look at the nature of power, justice and politics. This was quite evidently dangerous ground for a playwright already known for his clashes with the authorities, but it was not just that commentary of contemporary politics that got Jonson into trouble with this play. We discuss the Auston Trusty red card controversy and look at where Premiership clubs are at in the transfer window, with Celtic having finally signed a striker and Rangers and Hibs forwards both attracting attention. With Charlotte Cohen, Michael Grant and Cillian Sheridan.
In this episode of The Huddle Breakdown, we dissect the "debacle" of a football match against Hearts, asking if Martin O'Neill's new "Chaos Ball" tactics are destroying the team's identity. Alan reveals shocking data showing the lowest pass completion rate in 11 years and argues that the current style is turning Callum McGregor into a "terrier chasing a plastic bag." James and Alan also engage in a deep forensic debate over the Auston Trusty red card—using geometry and "The ZR Dog" to argue why the laws of the game are broken—before defending Arne Engels and previewing the Europa League clash with Utrecht.Want to support the channel? - https://huddlebreakdown.comLike this video and want more content like it? Sunday was a match long on incident but short on quality. Celtic took the lead twice and twice allowed Hearts back into the game, in what was widely agreed to be a poor contest of football. The main talking point came at 2–1 Celtic, when Trusty was shown a yellow card that was later overturned to a red following VAR intervention by John Beaton. The bhoys argue why it should have remained a booking, and that the sending-off fundamentally altered a game that Celtic were still trying (and struggling) to control.Beyond the referee controversy, the discussion turns to deeper structural issues. Celtic's tactical approach is criticised as blunt and ineffective, with individual performances (including Callum McGregor's unusually low pass-completion) raising concerns about form and fatigue. The conversation widens to the transfer window, the recurring absence of a Director of Football, and the growing sense that Celtic are once again asking the same squad to solve the same problems. With Europe looming large and domestic margins tightening, the message is clear - We need to chase it, we need to strengthen the squad, and we need to get through in Europe.Whether the club has a coherent plan to do all three remains the big unanswered question. One week to find out.Enjoy…Apple podcastsSpotifyAmazonPlayer.fmSpreakerAudioboomYoutube This is a public episode.
