Laura argues that existing forms of discrimination are being enforced by AI through historic coding, prioritising profitability at the expense of women's safety and rights. But also worrying is how simple it is for AI to enable users to create deepfake or AI girlfriends, that can perpetuate the abuse of women. Presenter: Anita Rani Producer: Rebecca Myatt

Today on Boston Public Radio: Hurricane Ian has left a trail of devastation. We opened the lines to listeners to ask: Has climate change won? Is it too late for some spots on the coast line, like Florida and Cape Cod? Lauren Friel and Andrew Brady from Cambridge restaurant Dear Annie discussed their recent success including reviews from the New York Times and Bon Appetit. Callie Crosley joined us through zoom and discussed the current Corey Lewandowski sexual assault case, an uptick of COVID levels in Massachusetts wastewater, and airlines that charge a premium to keep nearby seats empty. Crosley is the host of GBH's Under the Radar. Sue O'Connell from NBC 10 Boston discussed Biden's recent “Where's Jackie?” moment, an HIV-positive man in Revere finally able to pursue his dream of joining the Army, and the Lizzo x James Madison collaboration. James Bennett II discussed Carly Rae Jepsen's music with a message for the burdened adult, Japanese Breakfast, and Trevor Noah's exit from the Daily Show after seven years. Bennett is an arts and culture reporter for GBH News. General Manager of Wally's Cafe Jazz Club Frank Poindexter and Musicians Noah Preminger & Kevin Harris joined the show to celebrate the reopening of the jazz club. Noah and Kevin's band Sphere 427 delighted us with some music as well. We closed the show with a call-in segment, and heard from listeners about their preferences between text messages or the ever more popular voice message.
A lot is happening on this week's episode: 2022 hurricanes are named, an ugly Wildwood beach house might be demolished and a Dear Annie column asks for advice about dating with a terminal illness.

Dear Annie is a popular advice column on oregonlive.com (new site). They brought back this throwback question and I thought it would be cool to turn it into a discussion. What are your thoughts? Dear Annie, the love of my life and former wife of 21 years. i was born female and later, before I met you was surgically altered and technically became a hermaphrodite but I have always loved you and respected you and wish to always do right by you. I never meant you or our family any disrespect as I wrote what I hope you will read in the pages of this book. Since our divorce I have been wrought with a feeling of void and darkness in the absence of your always kind and loving words; your light and the hope you always filled me with is gone. As you continue reading this please remember your faith in God and all that he has blessed us with and know that these events described herein shaped me as I grew into the person that you fell in love with. Sometimes it’s best not to look under the hood. Don’t look a gift husband in the vagina. So the saying goes. You always wondered how I could wipe 10 times and still end up with skid marks on laundry day; the answer is simple and summed up with a simple medical term: rectovaginal fistula. Caused by a fencepost being shoved into my vagina. During the restoration and repair I was forced by my parents that were influenced by a surgeion to get a transgender surgery that i resisted, rejected, and fought in court. My parents argued that I should have been born male since I was so strong, tall and athletic. They also felt like my genitalia was ambiguous. I had a vagina but they thought that my clitoris was oversized and I recall my ovaries falling down to where the lumps could be seen in my lower abdomen, upper pelvis and eventually to the lowest point that gravity would let them fall, my labia by the time I was 11. My parents who by the way coined the phrase "when your balls drop", together with counselors also argued that all of the bad things that were happening to me, having my ovum harvested and being raped by relatives for example would not have occurred if I had been born male. I laughed because they were half correct.
