On this episode of The Last Resort, host Christina Jelski talks with Fora-affiliated luxury travel advisors Jill Albino and Ronit Margolis about their recent stay at The Retreat at Blue Lagoon Iceland. Albino and Margolis break down what makes The Retreat worth its premium price tag, with Margolis going so far as to call the property “one of the top three hotels I’ve ever been to.” The two share details on the resort’s elevated Icelandic cuisine, afternoon tea experience, complimentary spa circuit and standout service. They also cover what clients should be prepared for before they go, from the lagoon’s no-wet-hair rule and drink limit to the very real possibility of a volcanic eruption. Plus, the pair weigh in on whether one night at The Retreat is really enough. Currently in its fourth season, The Last Resort is a monthly hospitality-focused podcast brought to you by Travel Weekly. In each episode, travel advisors share their first impressions of the last resort they visited. The 6th episode of the fourth season will be posted the last week of June. Mexico travel: How demand is faring after February's cartel upheaval

The Folo by Travel Weekly

Play Episode Listen Later May 25, 2026 39:44

We’ve been keeping a close eye on travel demand to Mexico. Tourism was rocked earlier this year after cartel-related upheaval in the state of Jalisco, particularly in Puerto Vallarta and Guadalejara. The U.S. embassy in Mexico issued shelter-in-place alerts, which were briefly expanded across Mexico to places like Cancun, Tulum, Baja California and Oaxaca. Disturbances were soon quieted, but not before some travelers were spooked. Three months later, host Rebecca Tobin talks with Jacki Marks, the global head of trade brands for Mexico powerhouse ALG Vacations, and Travel Weekly hotels editor Christina Jelski about tourism sentiment today. Is travel on the rebound, and where did travelers go instead of Mexico? Is economic uncertainty and fuel costs having an impact on destination decisions? And, if you want a unique or special Mexico resort, where might you consider going? This episode was recorded Wednesday, May 20, and has been edited for length and clarity. Global powers are increasingly shaping markets and taking equity positions in strategic industries. I speak with Stephanie Harrigan, a certified speech language pathologist with nearly fifteen years of experience working with the neurodiverse population, to talk about selective mutism, feeding therapy and more.Stephanie brings a regulation-first, child-led approach to all of her work, and this conversation is full of concrete examples from her practice, including what feeding therapy actually looks like when it follows the child's lead, how she has worked with selectively mute children, and what she has seen happen to communication when behavioral pressure is removed. We also talk about how to advocate effectively with a school team and what research Stephanie uses when making the case for a non-behavioral approach.Stephanie can be reached at Inclusive Minds Educational Consulting via inclusivemindsllc@gmail.com.Key TakeawaysRegulation Before Skills, Always | 00:07:00 Stephanie describes how her approach across all of her work, whether feeding, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) speech therapy, or selective mutism, starts with regulation. She references her time at the Center for Discovery, where the entire program was built on the belief that sensory and emotional regulation is the foundation. Without it, she says, everything else crumbles. She uses the analogy of a house: regulation is the foundation, and speech and communication goals sit on top of it. What Child-Led Feeding Therapy Looks Like | 00:18:32 Stephanie gives two concrete examples from her feeding therapy work. One student only ate hot dogs at age sixteen. Rather than introducing new foods directly, she used the student's interest in small figurines to interact playfully with food. Another student loved baking but would not eat what they made, so they baked together and delivered food across campus. Stephanie explains that child-led feeding therapy means finding the child's special interest and embedding it into the work, with no timeline for progress and no pressure toward any specific outcome. Selective Mutism and the Role of Safety | 00:24:28 Stephanie describes working with a kindergarten student who was described by staff as someone who never spoke. In her first session with him, he spoke immediately. She attributes this to the felt safety she worked to establish before anything else. She describes how she uses a total communication approach, honors every form of communication including grunting and hissing, and matches the child's energy rather than bringing high excitement.AAC Is Not a Last Resort | 00:30:29 Stephanie explains what AAC is and pushes back on the common concern that using a device will prevent a child from learning to speak. She draws a parallel to what Casey describes with PDA children more broadly: the issue is often not that the child lacks the ability, but that at times stress and sensory dysregulation are blocking access to that ability. She describes seeing communication expand when sensory needs were addressed first, and frames AAC as one tool in a total communication approach rather than a replacement for speech. How to Work With a School Team as a PDA Parent | 00:48:57 Stephanie's advice for parents trying to collaborate with a school team is to not be afraid to advocate. She says she has never viewed a parent as challenging, and that strong advocacy is not only a parent's right but something she personally appreciates. She suggests sharing resources from a place of curiosity rather than confrontation, asking for the team's expertise, and framing questions as "I found this and I'm curious what you think" rather than leading with disagreement. Very Modern and Rather Ugly.

Episode 359: Is the MLS Becoming the Market of Last Resort? The private listing war just got louder. This week on tWiRE: This Week in Real Estate, we're breaking down one of the biggest questions facing the real estate industry right now: who controls access to listings, and what happens if the MLS is no longer the center of the housing market? Gary Keller is warning that private listings could turn the MLS into a "market of last resort", Zillow and Realtor.com are teaming up to share pre-market listings, MLS competition and consolidation may be heating up nationwide, and the Real Brokerage acquisition of RE/MAX is looking less like a surprise and more like the result of years of pressure on the old brokerage model. And that's just the industry side. We're also digging into what buyers and agents need to know as mortgage rates hit their highest level in a month, first-time buyers start pulling back again, down payment help becomes a major part of the 2026 housing market, remodeling growth slows, and homeowners begin pushing back on AI data centers in their neighborhoods. This is a loaded week in real estate, and we're cutting through the headlines to talk about what actually matters for agents, buyers, sellers, brokers, and investors. This week, we're talking about:

In this episode, Nick Breeze speaks with Dr. Claudia Wieners, climate scientist at the University of Utrecht, to explore one of the most urgent and controversial questions in climate science: could Stratospheric Aerosol Injection (SAI) be used to prevent the collapse of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC)?Dr. Wieners explains how AMOC is driven to collapse by two key forces — ocean warming and freshwater influx from increased rainfall and Greenland melt — and why SAI could theoretically counter both. She breaks down the role of the subpolar gyre and deep convection zones in sustaining AMOC, and why the timing of any SAI deployment is absolutely critical: wait too long, and you don't just fail to save AMOC — you could trigger a dangerous "double cooling" effect around the North Atlantic. The conversation also tackles the complex trade-offs that make SAI so politically charged: its potential impact on the Amazon rainforest, the risk of it being used as a pretext to slow down emissions reductions, and why many EU policymakers refuse to engage with the topic at all — even though, as Dr. Wieners argues, that refusal itself carries serious risks.Dr. Wieners outlines what a credible research programme would look like: better climate modelling, small-scale stratospheric measurements, and international monitoring infrastructure — and she issues a sobering warning that every year of delay increases the chance we've already crossed a critical threshold for AMOC without knowing it.

Current events – and some pushback from my previous episode – require me to revisit my assessment of Just Cause in our attacking Iran.  I stand by my initial assessment in Episode 128, which I recorded before our attack. In that episode I expressed my opinion that Humanitarian Intervention was a valid argument for both Just Cause and Last Resort. Nonetheless, I included a caveat from that episode where I said that the reality of a military operation against Iran would probably look different than what I proposed. It has, and so a review is important. It would also make the U.S. look like an “unreliable supplier” to the rest of the world. The move would also “exasperate” global energy prices, with a total of 25-30 million barrels per day disappearing from the market.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Options involve risks and are not suitable for all investors. The company that ultimately took ownership of iRobot wasn't Amazon or another Silicon Valley tech firm or even a U.S. competitor. It was the company's own overseas contract manufacturer. How does a company go from being a pioneering leader in robotics to being owned by the very supplier that once built its products?
