Tacoma, Washington songwriter Kye Alfred Hillig returns with “Ezekiel Bobbing For Apples,” the new single arriving January 7, 2026, and the first release from his upcoming album The All-Night Costume Company, due March 4. Built around haunting guitar leads and striking male-female harmonies that nod to the emotional gravity of classic country duets like Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris, the track introduces Hillig at his most direct and melodic. It sits between alternative-country and indie rock, carrying the tension and plainspoken urgency of a songwriter raised on punk rooms rather than polish. Hillig has spent more than two decades working the margins of the Puget Sound music scene, balancing songwriting with the realities of work, responsibility, and long stretches outside the spotlight. Since stepping fully into his solo work in 2012, he's released a deep catalog of records defined by sharp hooks and lyrical candor. His songs often land where discomfort and dark humor overlap, more interested in honesty than resolution. Fans of Father John Misty, The Jayhawks, and early-era The Shins will recognize the instinct for narrative and melody, even as Hillig's voice and perspective remain distinctly his own. “Ezekiel Bobbing For Apples” moves with restless intent. The arrangement is lean but charged, guitars circling and cutting while the rhythm section pushes steadily forward. The blend of voices adds weight rather than gloss, creating moments of tension and release that feel earned instead of ornamental. Lyrically, the song sits with a kind of open-eyed vulnerability. “It's really a bit of singing up from the bottom of the well,” Hillig says. “Everything feels kind of screwed and hopeless at times, but the message is I am with you. There's something freeing about saying that out loud.” Shaped by years of DIY spaces and unvarnished rooms, the song carries a quiet defiance, even as it stretches into broader country and indie-rock forms. It never pauses to second-guess itself. This month we're in the slightly more recent past as we tackle 2015 which was only 18 months before the podcast began. (although is allegedly a decade ago despite feeling like last week). There's ethereal pop, modern classical piano epics, unsettling hiphop and an interesting new conspiracy theory about the nation of Iceland. We've each chosen our 10 favourite songs of the year and sent them over to Colin's wife Helen, who put the playlists together and distributed them so we were each given a playlist of the 20 songs from the other two hosts, along with our own 10. We then ranked the playlists in order of preference and sent them back to Helen, who totalled up the points and worked out the order. She also joined us on the episode to read out the countdown, which we found out as we recorded so all reactions are genuine. Now, admittedly, in parts we're a little bit brutal to some of the songs in the list as we're three separate people with differing music tastes, but please remember that to be in this episode at all the songs have to have been in one of our top 10's of that year.Bands featured in this episode include (In alphabetical order, no spoilers here!) - Ahab, VLMV, Aurora, Julien Baker, The Chemical Brothers, Beck, Destroyer, Earl Sweatshirt, Envy, Father John Misty, Fear Factory, Ghost, Goatsnake, John Grant, Jamie XX, Carly Rae Jepsen, Kathryn Joseph, Kendrick Lamar, Lanterns On The Lake, Leprous, Little Mix, Low, Lubomry Melnyk, Pastel Ghost, Pinkshinyultrablast, Mark Ronson, Bruno Mars, Soley, Sufjan Stevens, Waxahatchee, Steven Wilson, & Wolf Alice. Find all songs in alphabetical order here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2eXXu2uUDKI5EhiuZeWlRS?si=61bb5362ccbb45d5Also, very excitingly Ian has just released his new album "Please Hesitate To Contact Me" under the name The Grief Executive. 33 minutes of ultra-eclectic office themed exasperation taking in influences from industrial metal, 90s r&b, hiphop & grindcore. You can find it on bandcamp here - https://thegriefexecutive.bandcamp.com/album/please-hesitate-to-contact-me or on Spotify here - https://open.spotify.com/album/681opO2y8aeWoKo3CVH95v?si=R3oz68GtQMCZ3XSJak8i8w. Score one out for the boys - it's NO ENCORE. Podcast OG Daithí returns with a brand new cinematic accompaniment under his belt, given his work as composer for new Irish film Christy which hits the picture houses this weekend. Fittingly enough, he's casting his eyes and ears on some other notable scorekeepers from the film world, with particular focus on some of the more unsung heroes - at least compared to the stratospheric likes of Hans Zimmer, anyways. All that and a lot more to discuss, so let's get to it... ACT ONE: The preamble takes in Dave's visit to Father John Misty, Adam's intimate encounter with Blood Orange, and a necessary trip to CLARIFICATION CORNER. ACT TWO (11:39): Christy hits cinemas this weekend - it's the thoughtful and sensitive debut feature film from Brendan Canty, with none other than Daithí providing the original music. We talk about that, and where he's at with all his various projects at the moment. ACT THREE (39:38): News, and lots of it - Taylor Swift gets engaged, The Mary Wallopers get disengaged, Snoop Dogg gets scared, Will Smith gets criticised, and Becky Lynch gets shamed. Quite the fiery week, really. ACT FOUR (1:06:16): Top 5 Film Composers-Follow Daithí on Instagram / TikTokVisit Daithí's websitePreorder the Christy soundtrack on vinylDave's Playlist / Daithí's Playlist Hosted on Acast. On this week's Talkhouse Podcast, we've got a guy from that band you like in conversation with Saturday Night Live's Donald Trump specialist. It's Hamilton Leithauser and James Austin Johnson. Leithauser was-slash-is the voice behind the Walkmen, the indie-rock band that burned bright from 2000 until 2013, at which point they splintered and Leithauser embarked on a solo career and some excellent soundtrack work. Last time he was on this show he was in conversation with Ethan Hawke, with whom he worked on Hawke's Paul Newman documentary; this time around, he's got a long-in-the-works solo album to promote. This Side of the Island came out earlier this year, though it probably would have come out sooner if Leithauser didn't take a break to reunite with the Walkmen for some big shows. It's typically excellent, and a bit more slinky than his past couple. It was produced by The National's Aaron Dessner and he's just finishing up a tour with Father John Misty. For Leithauser's latest video, he roped in comedian James Austin Johnson to play his sorta-stalker / impersonator at the legendary Carlyle Hotel in New York. Check out the video right here, it's called "What do I Think?" If you don't recognize James Austin Johnson's name, you'll recognize his incredible impression of Donald Trump, which he's been doing on Saturday Night Live for the past couple of seasons. Now there have been many Trump impressions over the years, but nobody has quite captured the manic free-association in the way that Johnson has. With SNL off for the summer, Johnson is out doing comedy on the road, where you can catch him over the next few weeks before he returns to his main gig. In this fun chat, Johnson and Leithauser talk about SNL's schedule, about drinking wine on stage, about recording fake sounds versus real ones, and about a guy they're both a little obsessed with: Bob Dylan. Oh, and Trump, but just a little bit. Enjoy. Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast, and thanks to James Austin Johnson and Hamilton Leithauser for chatting. Stigla je nova, možda i najhaotičnija doza Njuz POPkasta! I naravno, predstavljamo i najnoviji Njuz merch – šolje lepše od prethodnih i stikeri koji preživljavaju apokalipsu (skoro). On Tuesday August 21, 2012, at 3:30 pm ET, I spoke with Josh Tillman, who'd left a popular band called Fleet Foxes to venture out on his own. He called himself Father John Misty and earlier that spring, Sub Pop had released his acclaimed debut album, Fear Fun. Josh and I had a talk about its meta- and philosophical themes, why he name dropped people like Neil Young and Jean-Paul Sartre, the novel he'd written, why he left Fleet Foxes, his interest in comedy, what his favourite Bob Dylan song was and under appreciated and over discussed aspects of Dylan's work, future plans, and more. This week I talk to Dr. Eugene K. Choi who is a Performance and Business Coach, but he does it all from a Neuroscience-Based background. So I've never had a guest quite like Eugene on this show before, and it was a blast to get to know him and how he got started in all that he does. He shares how he went from working in the pharmaceutical world, to chasing a dream of Filmmaking to then bringing things full circle when he decided to take all that he had learned about the brain and neuroscience, and apply that to the creative and entrepreneurial world he then found himself in. He shares a lot of great stuff on how to use brain science to improve our performance, and achieve your goals, become more present, take better action and tons more. It's a really awesome story and I promise you, Eugene shares a lot of advice that I've never quite had here on the show before. This one's packed with a LOT of great stuff and honestly, I was just trying to keep up with Eugene in this one! We barely scratched the surface of Eugene's knowledge in this one, so if you want more, make sure to llisten to his podcast The Neurohacking Podcast! -----THIS EPISODE IS SPONSORED BY----- PromoWest Productions - @promowestlive For all upcoming shows & event info of who's coming through Columbus, OH, visit promowestlive.com or to purchase tickets directly, visit AXS.com Looking for a concert to go to?
