Conleth Mc Geary's latest single ‘Beverly' is an acoustic folk ballad built around melodic vocals and intimate guitar, carrying the ache of leaving home and the quiet comfort of family as a refuge. With post-breakup travel, nostalgia, and emotional storytelling at its core, it sits naturally beside Dermot Kennedy and Damien Rice. Speaking on the track, Conleth says: “This song is about relying on family for healing. I think most Irish people have some relation to either living away in America or Australia, and I went to my big cousin for a summer in Boston on a J1 visa. I was lucky enough to have someone to lean on during that time, and I had the summer of my life.” ‘Beverly' marks Conleth's first release since signing with Rubarb Music - the newly launched Irish artist development label from Grammy Award-winning producer and mix engineer Ruadhri Cushnan and music industry veteran and 2025 Dublin Entrepreneur of the Year, Shea McNelis - just in time for Conleth's upcoming tour of Ireland and the UK, including a sell-out headline show in Belfast's Empire Music Hall. Blending sounds of folk and home, Conleth Mc Geary has been pursuing the dream of making music which connects with people - both at home and away. Seeking inspiration from the likes of Foy Vance, and more recently, Amble and Ye Vagabonds, Conleth's style has been created through years of graft as a solo musician across Ireland and the UK, touring both extensively, and supporting artists such as The Coronas. Having made his way to Australia with The Coronas on their 'Thoughts and Observations' tour in 2024, Conleth followed it up with a rousing headline appearance on the Emerging Artists stage at Misneach - a festival curated by Dermot Kennedy - in Sydney in March 2025.

Today's guest is the Irish troubadour who sold out arenas across the world and built one of the most durable careers in modern music, entirely on his own terms. From Dublin street corners and busking for strangers to headlining Madison Square Garden, this conversation is about what that actually costs to build the slow, deliberate construction of a career that answers to no one, yet resonates with millions around the world. He carries three things simultaneously that most artists never figure out how to hold at once: the ambition of someone who was never going to settle for Ireland only, the sensitivity of a songwriter who writes for his whole community, and the creative instincts of a kid who grew up on hip hop and folk and refused to let either one fully win. This is one of the more honest conversations about what a creative life actually looks like from the inside — not the version that gets posted, the version that gets lived. And The Writer Is... Dermot Kennedy! In this episode of And The Writer Is...We go deep on:• His whole journey• The moment he realized the audience could feel how hard he was trying — and why that was the problem • How to carry ambition, sensitivity, and creative instinct in the same body without one of them destroying the other• Building an international career without a viral hit — and what that reveals about how the industry actually works• The busking years, and the secrets for how he survived• Why he deliberately toured smaller venues on his last run — and what that decision says about success• Imposter syndrome, insecurity, and the reality of growing a career from 0-100.And much more...Hit subscribe and turn on notifications.Every week, we go deep with the most interesting creatives in music.Follow us on socials: @andthewriterisA special thank you to our sponsors...Our lead sponsor, NMPA — the National Music Publishing Association. On this week's episode of That Peter Crouch Podcast, Pete, Sids, and Chris are joined by global chart-topper Dermot Kennedy for a wide-ranging chat that blends football culture with life on the road as one of the world's biggest touring artists. From busking on the streets of Dublin to selling out the Aviva Stadium, Dermot opens up about the grind behind his rise, the self-doubt before album releases, and why live performances still mean everything to him.The lads dive into Dermot's deep love for football, growing up as a Manchester United fan inspired by Roy Keane, and his unforgettable experiences playing Soccer Aid alongside legends like Wayne Rooney, Rivaldo, and Carlos Tevez. There's also a brilliant crossover between music and football as they compare elite mentality, confidence, and what separates the very best from the rest.We also get a hilarious (and slightly chaotic) guitar lesson for Sids as he prepares for a potential live performance at Finsbury Park, plus a stunning live acoustic performance from Dermot that completely stops the room. After Dermot heads off, Pete and Sids regroup to debrief Pete's participation in another Liverpool Legends match, the Paddy Power predictions, and life without Chris—who's conveniently on holiday…Chumbawamba00:00 - Podcast intro & Sid's “popstar” identity crisis03:10 - Wild guest booking stories & big names teased05:10 - Phone network XI & absurd football chat07:45 - Dermot Kennedy joins the podcast09:00 - Touring with global superstars & live show pressure10:45 - New album nerves & self-doubt before release12:00 - Busking in Dublin & early arrogance14:00 - Music industry vs old-school artistry debate16:00 - Irish music culture & live performance roots17:30 - Football fandom & Roy Keane stories19:00 - Meeting Roy Keane & brutal fan encounters22:00 - Playing football growing up & mental escape23:30 - Soccer Aid stories & facing elite pros27:30 - Playing Old Trafford & halftime performance nerves29:00 - The moment his career exploded overnight31:30 - Talent vs hard work in music33:00 - Sid's chaotic guitar journey begins35:00 - Sid plays guitar (and survives)36:30 - Dermot performs live acoustic (incredible moment)38:30 - Fan questions & bizarre phone plan reveal40:30 - Songs he nearly didn't release42:00 - Touring life & favourite cities44:00 - Musicians who can actually play football45:00 - “Game's Gone” – VAR & modern football rants48:30 - Dermot leaves & shin pad campaign chaos50:00 - Liverpool Legends match debrief55:00 - Paddy Power predictions & football catch-up01:05:00 - Chris on holiday & podcast wrap-upFor more Peter Crouch: Twitter - https://twitter.com/petercrouch Therapy Crouch - https://www.youtube.com/@thetherapycrouch For more Chris Stark Twitter - https://twitter.com/Chris_StarkInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/chrisstark/For more Steve Sidwell Twitter - https://twitter.com/sjsidwell Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/stevesidwell14 #PeterCrouch #ThatPeterCrouchPodcast Hosted on Acast. A voice can be an instrument, a mirror, and sometimes a battlefield. That's the ground we cover with actor-singer Winter Andrews aka the “indie sorcerer”—as we trace how mimicry, rhythm, and empathy shaped both his acting and his music. From being moved by Regina Spektor's allegory in Samson to discovering the strange peace inside Hozier's Shrike, Winter opens up about the songs that taught him to hold big feelings without apology. We talk Chester Bennington's quiet ache amid the roar, Imogen Heap's ghostly minimalism, Dermot Kennedy's raw folk energy, and Phoebe Bridgers' gentle delivery of devastating stories. Then Jeff Buckley brings the hopeful melancholy that still lights the way. With that map in hand, we step into Winter's upcoming EP, Till the Moon Fades Away, and the world he built across four originals. Wildfires starts small and blooms into a cinematic swell, setting the promise that intimacy and grandeur will meet. The Lovers is a three-act love story threaded by one telling word—if—moving from yearning to union to elegy, with strings by Rob Moose amplifying the sweep of time. Babel rises from shame and self-loathing into a towering confession, a song years in the making that demanded the right vocal arc and tempo to match its storm. Across the Snow closes like the aftermath of hard nights, born through a character to reach truths that were too raw to face head-on. The 24-year-old Slieverue native cites his musical influences as including Dermot Kennedy and Kingfishr, with a sprinkling of R&B and pop. However, it was through his fascination with Ed Sheeran, and Sheeran's ability to create new sounds with the guitar, Dowling's real journey in music began. The then 15-year-old bought a Martin LX1-E – Sheeran's famous guitar model – and set off on a journey busking around Ireland. This was a formative experience for Dowling, who despite graduating from University of Galway with a BSc in Science, has tenaciously pursued a career in music since. It is Dowling's unique commitment to Irish music storytelling that has propelled him to perform in venues such as Galway's famous ‘Róisín Dubh' and ‘Uisce Beatha' in Waterford City. Through his songwriting, he's developed an introspective meditation on love, longing, and the importance of remembering where you come from. With his heartfelt lyrics, Dowling injects a unique and vivacious energy from Ireland's South East region.

A friendship was struck, that quickly developed into a musical partnership, as seen at Sounds From A Safe Harbour in Cork in 2023, when the festival director Mary Hickson put the pair together for a collaboration. Now six months after Eoin's death, Arnalds and French's family, friends and collaborators have been celebrating the artist's creativity and legacy with the stunning song they wrote together 'We Didn't Know We Were Ready'. The song was performed on The Tommy Tiernan show on RTÉ in January under Arnalds' Opia community banner with vocals from Niamh Regan, Ye Vagabonds, JFDR, The Staves, Sandrayati Fay, Dermot Kennedy, Laoise Leahy, Memorial, Christof Van Der Ven and most poignantly of all, Eoin's wife Steph French. In our chat with Ólafur today, he recounts meeting Eoin, their creative time spent together and the instructions he received from Eoin before he died to finish the record they made together, which will be released later this year. * Support Nialler9 on Patreon, get event discounts, playlists, ad-free episodes and join our Discord community Songs referenced on the Nialler9 Podcast Spotify Playlist Listen on Apple | Android | ACAST | Patreon | Pocketcasts | CastBox | Stitcher | Spotify | RSS Feed | Pod.Link

The sisters talk with Dan Sharp about his latest release “Between the Brave, Bold and Given Up,” and being authentic to yourself through music. Brought up in grassroots Aotearoa, Dan is a man of substance, dedication and has aheart of integrity. His commitment to his craft as an artist, songwriter and aproducer of music runs deep. His music is courageous, thoughtful and disarmingly honest andcalls to mind the feeling of ‘They don't make them like this anymore'. Hisvoice ranges from gravely ruggedness to tender velvet, the full extent of suchis used to take listeners toward an emotional space of self acceptance. 2019's single release, ‘Kindle and Coal' (500,000+ Spotifystreams) displayed Dan's ability to deliver an impact and vulnerability alongthe lines of modern international's Lewis Capaldi and Dermot Kennedy, whilemaintaining his Springsteen-esque timelessness. Opportunities were forthcoming with Dan opening shows for HollieSmith, Tiki Taane, touring with Graeme James, performing mainstage at Rhythmand Vines and completing a NZ tour with Ciaran McMeeken. 2020 brought about a management and booking agency agreement thatsaw Dan tour NZ with Thomas Oliver, support Dave Dobbyn, receive NZonAirfunding, and sign with newly established Tenfold Records. Dan also was affordedthe opportunity to work with award-winning producers, Thomas Oliver and SiGooding at NZ's famed Roundhead Studios. The passion and dedication is obvious. Dan has spent the time crafting his sound and songs and his voice demands to be heard. Connor and Dylan are joined by Antwayn Hopper (A Strange Loop, Hair). This trio delivers a high energy episode while a summer storm rages on. Antwayn blesses our ears with his beautiful baritone voice, taking us on his journey from Topeka, Kansas to the stages of New York City. Of course we chat all about A Strange Loop, where Antwayn made his mark as Thought 6, as well as the creative beauty of making his Broadway debut in the latest Hair revival. We learn about Billy Porter's take on The Life, which Antwayn starred in, and how sharing his whole self has led to moments like that. These three laugh and throw a little shade, wondering about the state of the dramaturg, swooning over Norm Lewis and Brian Stokes Mitchell, and Antwayn even suggests who should replace Wendy Williams on TV. Hint: you know them. There are recs of Dermot Kennedy's music, Mary Rodgers' memoir Shy, and American Monster.
