In Episode 27 of Talking Shit About Nothing, Jimmy and Richie welcome Survivor Season 48 contestant and Massachusetts native Justin Pioppi to the show. The guys talk with Justin about his experience competing on Survivor, what the adventure was really like, and the lessons he took away from being part of one of television's most intense competitions. Episode 225 consists of something typically reserved for Patreon members.Back in October 2023, I launched a Patreon page. One of the perks I came up with for those who put up their hard-earned money to support me is monthly bonus podcast episodes. These are different than the main show as I look back at, and attempt to decipher, posts from the original Initial Impressions blog that I wrote from about 2010-2013.I wanted to share this to give everyone an idea of what I do on Patreon. So what exactly makes up the very first Patreon bonus podcast? I'm glad you asked. Two blog posts get broken down. The first is what I called the 'Pilot Blog,' dated May 20, 2010. Initial Impressions was meant to be a behind-the-scenes companion to my official travel blog. So the first post is a look at a trip I took to the North Shore in Massachusetts. It included Lynn, Saugus, Nahant, and Revere. There are random stories and thoughts sprinkled in on this trip. The second blog post from May 26, 2010, is the true debut of Initial Impressions. It is a slice of life as I share some of the things I saw and experienced that week. We look at Quiznos, beach sticker blues, gym meatheads, and more. For those who enjoy the format of this bonus episode, there are currently 26 of them on Patreon now. Send us a textWhat does it take to build mental health care that first responders actually trust? We sit down with former Revere police officer Joe Rizzuti, whose journey from stacked line-of-duty trauma and alcohol use to peer support leadership strips away the clichés and gets to what works. Joe's story starts with a tough childhood, a military turnaround, and a policing career shaped by high-stakes cases and a deep love for community. It also includes administrative betrayals, devastating calls, and the moment he walked into On-Site Academy expecting a firearms range and found a lifeline instead. From there, Joe breaks down how cultural competence changes outcomes. If a clinician doesn't understand roll call, shift work, gallows humor, and the weight of cumulative stress, trust collapses. He explains how he vets treatment programs—On-Site for acute resets, First Responder Wellness in California for intensive trauma work, and union-aligned options like IAFF Centers of Excellence—while calling out profit-first models that fail responders. We talk insurance constraints, travel realities, and why credibility is earned one referral at a time.We also tackle the retiree cliff and why too many officers and firefighters struggle within five years of leaving the job. Joe's answer: a coaching model adapted from recovery support that restores purpose, routine, and community long before the badge comes off. The takeaway is clear—care must be team-driven, ego-free, and relentlessly practical. If you lead, remove barriers. If you treat, learn the culture. If you're a peer, keep checking in long after the headlines fade. Step into the world of the 20th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry — the famed "Harvard Regiment" — as we explore their gripping story at the Battle of Gettysburg in **Ask A Gettysburg Guide #118**. This regiment, composed largely of Harvard-educated officers and Massachusetts volunteers, marched onto the fields of Gettysburg not knowing how decisively their courage would be tested ([https://www.gettysburgbattlefieldtours.com/the-harvard-regiment/] Arriving with roughly 301 men when they went into action, the 20th Massachusetts suffered devastating losses during the battle: about 30 killed, 94 wounded, and 3 missing ([https://gettysburg.stonesentinels.com/union-monuments/massachusetts/20th-massachusetts/] Their colonel, Paul Joseph Revere — grandson of the Revolutionary-era patriot Paul Revere— was mortally wounded on July 2 and died on July 4; command shifted rapidly as officers fell, passing from Revere to Lt. Col. George N. Macy (wounded), then to Capt. Henry L. Abbott. On **July 3**, during Pickett's Charge, the regiment held a critical section of Cemetery Ridge near the famed "Copse of Trees." As Confederate troops advanced toward the Union center, the 20th Massachusetts rose from their shallow rifle pits and delivered fierce, disciplined volleys that helped smash the Confederates' assault — playing a vital part in defending what many consider the turning point of the war ([https://www.nps.gov/places/20th-massachusetts-monument.html). Their steadiness under overwhelming fire, even after nearly losing their commanding officers, stands as a testament to their valor and sacrifice. In this episode, LBG Ralph Siegel and historian Zachery Fry take you through the regiment's harrowing journey — their approach march, the brutal chaos of July 2 and 3, the loss of leadership, the feel of earth trembling under artillery, the smoke, the fear, the honor — and ultimately their role in one of the most defining clashes in American history. If you love learning about the Battle of Gettysburg, Civil War storytelling, or want to understand what these soldiers endured in their own words and through the terrain itself, this episode is not to be missed. ---

Trey just spent three weeks in the Philippines and brought back stories you won't hear on resort brochures: mountain golf in Bagiuo under a passing typhoon, humid greens that refuse to speed up, and a caddie culture where service comes first—your own cart, your own caddie, and sometimes an extra umbrella caddie for good measure. We talk about how to set expectations abroad, why communicating your caddie style matters, and how slow play can drain the value of any round if nobody enforces pace.Back in Vegas, the nostalgia hits at Las Vegas Country Club while we gear up for the VGN finals at Revere. We trade views vs. vibes, share practice rounds and weather intel, and set goals for two days that will decide bragging rights through winter. Along the way, we unpack the Internet Invitational: underrated talent, wild bets, and the way pressure turns putting brutal. It's a look at creator golf that respects real skill and still asks smart questions about formats, stakes, and amateur status. We also unveil our partnership with Gresh Golf Academy, a serious training facility built for improvement, not entertainment. Most people are reacting to the election results at face value, but there is a deeper storyline unfolding that many are missing. I'm revealing what these outcomes actually show about where God is positioning leaders, movements, and nations right now, and why the shaking is exposing both the enemy's strategy and heaven's response. Once you recognize the pattern, you will see how God advances His people even in moments that look like setbacks. This is not a time to fear, it is a time to discern and move with purpose. Send us a textA rainy Boston morning set the scene, but the real weather shift happens in the story: an English major boards her first commercial flight to Alaska at 19, discovers how far a duffel and a daring heart can go, and eventually returns to writing through the heat of a private kitchen. We trace Melanie's winding path from private chef to freelance food-and-travel journalist, and how curiosity—not credentials—became the map legend for every bold turn.We dig into the messy art of pitching that school didn't teach well enough, why perfection slowed her down, and how a personal touch can cut through a crowded inbox. Then the narrative dives—literally—into the Galápagos, where a sea lion taught her the power of attention and play, and resurfaces in Iceland with fermented shark, sheep-dung–smoked whiskey, and the kind of hospitality that sticks. Along the way, we unpack travel trends with substance: detours that counter overtourism without diluting wonder, a resurgence of first-person narratives that invite empathy, and multigenerational trips that strengthen family bonds through shared discovery.Closer to home, Melanie opens a notebook of Boston recommendations that skip the obvious, from a lingering tapa night in the Seaport to a moody Beacon Hill hideaway, thermal cycling sessions in Revere, Mass Audubon's overlooked greenways, and a Woburn spot hosting a chestnut festival and a $22 three-course lunch. She shares what she seeks on hosted trips, why perseverance is the freelancer's quiet superpower, and the one dream that keeps resurfacing: flying a fighter jet. If you care about travel that feels honest, food that carries culture and pitching that respects people, you'll find tools, stories and surprises you can use. When it comes to sharing our faith, it all starts in our hearts. If we understand how much God loves us and have received God's forgiveness and joy, that enables us to live with hope. But it all starts with what 1 Peter 3:15 says: “revere Christ as Lord.” This week, we examine what it means and what impact it has on our lives when we “revere Christ.”

Music. In this episode Andrea Beaty—STEM graduate and author of Rosie Revere, Engineer—joins the show to discuss how storytelling encourages curiosity, resilience, and a sense of identity in young children that can lead them toward STEM careers. She explains how Rosie's story of failure and persistence helps kids see themselves as engineers and scientists. Andrea highlights the importance of early exposure, literacy, community programs, and industry partnerships to attract and retain more young people in STEM. Practical ideas include supporting book distribution, hands-on projects, and inclusive local mentoring that lets kids contribute to real community problems.
Author Andrea Beaty discusses how her STEM background and storytelling created Rosie Revere, a character who teaches children that failure is part of inventing and learning. The episode explores ways to attract and retain young people in STEM—starting early with books, community programs, and hands-on projects—and the importance of showing kids they belong in science and engineering. Beaty shares examples of how narrative helps children identify as engineers and scientists, mentions literacy and local partnerships as effective strategies for industry involvement, and highlights related resources like project books. She also previews her new picture book "Billie Jean Pete, Athlete," emphasizing curiosity, resilience, and the idea that every experience builds useful skills for the future.

In this conversation, Kreed Revere addresses the emotional turmoil experienced by estranged parents, emphasizing the distinction between punishment and protection in parent-child relationships. He explores the complexities of healing, boundaries, and the importance of mutual consent in relationships. Revere encourages parents to reframe their understanding of their children's behaviors and to recognize their own emotional pain while validating their children's need for space and healing.TakeawaysA belief of being punished by the adult child can keep parents stuck in pain.Adult children are often protecting themselves, not punishing their parents.Understanding the difference between punishment and protection can shift perspectives.Boundaries set by children are not acts of cruelty but necessary for their healing. Both parents' grief and children's need for protection can coexist.Self-compassion is essential for growth during estrangement.www.TheEstrangedHeart.comEmail: hello@TheEstrangedHeart.comWork with Kreed: https://theestrangedheart.com/services(private coaching, mediation, support groups, webinars, etc.)The Heart Collective: https://theestrangedheart.com/membershipFacebook Support Group for Estranged Moms (facilitated by Kreed)https://www.facebook.com/groups/estrangedmotherssupportgroupTo support the podcast and Kreed's work with estranged and reconciled parents and adult children: https://buymeacoffee.com/kreedrevere
To live with a holy fear of God requires that we revere Him. But what is reverence and how do we live before God with a deep humility, respect, and honor? In this study, Nathan explores the biblical concept of reverence, what it means to “hallow” (keep and honor as holy) God's name, and explains how taking God's name in vain is far more than swearing. If you desire to grow deeper in your relationship and intimacy with Christ Jesus, then we as Christians must live with holy reverence before Him and His Word.

He’s famous for his ride but he’s essentially so much more. The story of Paul Revere is the story of the American Revolution. Always smack dab in the thick of things, he was an ordinary citizen living in extraordinarily turbulent times. Revere played key roles in colonial tax fights and riots, the infamous Boston Massacre, the Tea Party, the Battle of Lexington and Concord, and even the ratification of the U.S. Constitution. In this fast-paced, dramatic account, Paul Revere’s life pulses with energy. Our guest will explore his family and church life along with his revolutionary contribution as a spy, entrepreneur, express rider, and commercial visionary.Become a Parshall Partner: http://moodyradio.org/donateto/inthemarket/partnersSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
