This week on MusicalTalk, Nick and Hannah take a sunny trip down memory lane to explore the legacy of the global phenomenon Mamma Mia! With Nick revisiting the stage show for the first time in 25 years, they discuss how the production has evolved over the decades and why its irresistible blend of ABBA hits and heartwarming storytelling continues to resonate with audiences worldwide. But the conversation doesn't stop in Greece! Nick and Hannah also dive into a galaxy far, far cheekier as they share their thoughts on The Empire Strips Back: A Burlesque Parody, now playing at Riverside Studios. Expect lightsabers, laughter, and a whole lot of sass in this unique theatrical experience.
We know our loved ones live on after they pass on from this mortal coil, but how about your furry loved ones? Where does my kittycat go after she passes on? How do we teach children to have grit? That's what the Government is suggesting needs to be a new focus in schools, to bolster children's mental health. To discuss how parents can help their children develop resilience, Anita Rani is joined by Sue Atkins, parenting coach and author of Parenting Made Easy and child psychologist Laverne Antrobus. We are currently hearing different perspectives on the recent Supreme Court ruling on the definition of a woman under the Equality Act, and how it could and should be interpreted on the ground. Today Anita speaks to Sacha Deshmukh, Chief Executive of Amnesty International UK.At age 20, actor Sam Ipema was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm. Her highly successful play, Dear Annie, I Hate You details this experience and is currently on at Riverside Studios in London. She joins Anita Rani and neurologist Dr Faye Begeti to discuss.Founder of the Everyday Sexism project, Laura Bates, has been looking into artificial intelligence. Laura argues that existing forms of discrimination are being enforced by AI through historic coding, prioritising profitability at the expense of women's safety and rights. But also worrying is how simple it is for AI to enable users to create deepfake or AI girlfriends, that can perpetuate the abuse of women. Presenter: Anita Rani Producer: Rebecca Myatt

Send us a textRickerby Hinds swung by the Playwright's Spotlight prior to the premiere of his "last' play. We unpack various topics including Hip Hop Theatre, being a self-taught playwright, writing without arrogance, earning your audience, and the use of poetry, spoken word, rap, and movement and dance. We also discuss lessons in editing, metaphors and similes, achieving layers, character introductions, unwritten dialogue, and what choreography on the page looks like. We wrap it up with his venue and purpose at Riverside Studios, commissioning a play, the rehearsal process, and his approach to developing characters. Similarities in look and sound to Denzel Washington, I half expected Denzel to bust out and say, "It's actually me, Denzel." I also had the opportunity to catch this play prior to this episode dropping. If you're in the LA area, I highly recommend checking it out. It's a definite crowd pleaser with lots of audience participation. Even if you can't see the production, I'm sure you'll be charmed by this episode.
