قطعه Mia and Sebastians Theme از Justin Hurwitz متعلق به فیلم La la land. قطعه Leda Swims ساخته Dickon Hinchliffe متعلق به فیلم The Lost Daughter. قطعه Sorrow Never Ends از PerfectParadox. Game Of Thrones.

Our latest guests on Soundtracking are actor and now writer/director Maggie Gyllenhaal and composer Dickon Hinchliffe, who join us to discuss their collaboration on The Lost Daughter. Available on Netflix, The Lost Daughter stars Olivia Coleman, Dakota Johnson and Jessie Buckly, and is - among many other things - a genuinely powerful meditation on the trials and tribulations of motherhood. We absolutely love it - and can guarantee music lovers will LOVE this conversation.
This week, we're looking at Netflix's latest awards contender, The Lost Daughter, the directorial debut of Maggie Gyllenhaal and starring Olivia Colman, Dakota Johnson, Jessie Buckley, and Ed Harris. Based on the 2006 novella of the same name by Elena Ferrante, the film follows a middle-aged literature professor named Leda (Colman) as she attempts to spend a relaxing summer holiday on a Greek island. But her stay is interrupted by anxieties from both the present and past, as her connection with a young mother also on vacation (Johnson) brings back bad memories of her own past as a parent. It's a scintillatingly hazy character study, aided by Gyllenhaal's deliberately disorienting direction and career-best performances from Colman and Buckley (as a younger version of Leda). But in keeping with that sense of airy time, composer Dickon Hinchliffe (Leave No Trace, Winter's Bone) called upon a '60s, '70s pop sound that plays with and contrasts with Leda's brittle, brutal honesty. Starting from a lush, Motown-esque title theme for its main character and crawling through moments of unnerving tension with double bass and strained strings, it's a perfectly appropriate score for a film about a woman trying (and failing) to escape her own emotional chaos. A multi-instrumentalist and founding member of the British band Tindersticks, Hinchliffe started his composing career when Claire Denis tapped the band to score her film Vendredi Soir. From there, he's scored nearly 40 films and episodes of television, bringing a deeply textured, mysterious sound to each project. Together, we talk about his transition from pop to film composing, the vintage '60s instruments he used for his latest score, and finding the true sound for The Lost Daughter's mercurial protagonist. You can find Dickon Hinchliffe at his official website here. The Lost Daughter is currently streaming on Netflix. You can also listen to the score for The Lost Daughter on your preferred music streaming service courtesy of Maisie Music Publishing.

Our latest guest on Soundtracking is the wonderful Philippa Lowthorpe, a director with an award-winning track record in film and television, with credits including Call The Midwife, Swallows & Amazons, The Crown and Three Girls. Her latest film is Misbehaviour. Featuring a fantastic cast, the narrative follows events surrounding the 1970 Miss World Contest, which not only saw the first black competitor crowned but also the stage flour-bombed by women's liberation activists during the event. Suffice to say, host Bob Hope was not amused, and we highly recommend you google the footage if you haven't seen it already. The score, meanwhile, was provided by former guest on this show, Dickon Hinchliffe.

Our latest guest on Soundtracking is a composer who cut his teeth as a founder member of Tindersticks, with whom he wrote orchestral arrangements, recorded numerous albums and toured worldwide. Dickon Hinchliffe then turned his hand to scoring films when French director Claire Denis asked the band to write the music for her film Nénette et Boni. Dickon hasn't looked back since, providing the sonic backdrop to films as diverse as Winter's Bone, Project Nim and Leave No Trace. His latest project is Idris Elba's directorial debut, Yardie, which required compositions that complimented not only the narrative but also the fabulous soundtrack.

This is probably the best edited episode so far. I tried to reduce the clicks and other sounds to a minimum. At least the ones that are not a part of the music ;-) Tracks have been edited seperately to sound crisp and clear. We also have a third microphone now so that all three of us get roughly the same air time.In this episode we present the soundtrack to the 2013 Steven Knight film "Locke" by Dickon Hinchliffe as well as the soundtrack to the Cavia video game "Nier" from 2010 composed by Keiichi Okabe, Kakeru Ishihama, Keigo Hoashi, and Takafumi Nishimura. The two scores are quite different in style which should make for an entertaining and diversified listening experience. download

Dickon is a founding member of Tindersticks, the seminal UK band for which he composed music, played violin, guitar and keyboards. His orchestral arrangements were one of Tindersticks' most distinctive features. From 1993 to 2005, Dickon was involved in ten of their releases including their self-titled debut which was Melody Maker's album of the year. Dickon began scoring films when French director Claire Denis approached Tindersticks to write the score to her films like Trouble Every Day, starring Vincent Gallo, and the film Friday Night. Dickon has scored several other films including Forty Shades of Blue, directed by Ira Sachs, which won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance in 2005. Dickon has composed music for a range of films from Married Life, Last Chance Harvey, Cold Souls, and Red Riding: In the Year of Our Lord 1980 for James Marsh.More recently, Dickon scored Debra Granik's multiple award winning feature film Winter's Bone, Passion Play for Mitch Glazer and the award winning documentary, Project Nim, again for James Marsh.
