For this week's main podcast review, Katie Johnson, Josh Parham, Joselyn Safadi, Dan Bayer & Daniel Howat join me to discuss the latest film from David Michôd, "Christy," starring Sydney Sweeney, Ben Foster, Merritt Wever, and Katy O'Brian. Based on former professional boxer Christy Martin, the film chronicles Martin's rise to becoming America's most well-known female boxer in the 1990s, and later her abusive relationship with her husband/trainer. The film premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival to positive reviews for Sweeney and Foster's performances, but what did we think of it? Please tune in as we discuss that, the direction, writing, its awards season chances, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. Thank you for listening, and enjoy! It's a huge weekend at the movies! Here's what we reviewed for you in the latest episode of our Breakfast All Day podcast: PREDATOR: BADLANDS: We were shocked at how much we enjoyed this. It's a blast of a summer popcorn movie, dropped right in the middle of prestige movie season. And you don't need to know much about the Predator franchise going into it. (FYI, some light spoilers here.) In theaters. SENTIMENTAL VALUE: A major awards contender, and possibly the best movie of the year (according to Christy, at least). The latest from director and co-writer Joachim Trier ("The Worst Person in the World") is a moving family drama starring Stellan Skarsgård and Renate Reinsve. In theaters. DIE MY LOVE: Jennifer Lawrence absolutely goes for it in this harrowing story of post-partum depression. Director Lynne Ramsay puts Lawrence through the wringer in her role as a new mom navigating the isolation of a Montana farmhouse. Robert Pattinson co-stars as her husband. In theaters. CHRISTY: Of course we had to review this. Sydney Sweeney transforms herself to play Christy Martin, the coal miner's daughter who became a trailblazer in the world of women's boxing. Ben Foster is chilling as her abusive trainer and husband. But this is a pretty standard sports biopic. In theaters. No movie news livestream this week because Christy is traveling. Come back and see us at our YouTube channel next Friday, Nov. 14 at Noon Pacific. Have a great weekend! Subscribe to Christy's Saturday Matinee newsletter: https://christylemire.beehiiv.com/
"Christy" is an American biographical sports drama film about the former professional boxer Christy Martin, played by Sydney Sweeney (she also served as one of the film's producers), directed by David Michôd and co-starring Ben Foster. The film chronicles Martin's rise to becoming America's most well-known female boxer in the 1990s, and later her husband's attempt to murder her in 2010. The film had its world premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, where it received positive reviews for Sweeney and Foster's performances. Michôd, Sweeney and Foster were all kind enough to spend a few minutes speaking with us about their work and experiences making the film, which you can listen to below. Please be sure to check out the film, which will be released in theaters on November 7th by Black Bear Pictures. Thank you, and enjoy! Check out more on NextBestPicture.com Please subscribe on... With more than 15 years of experience helping ambitious SMEs and leading brands grow online, Ben brings a seasoned perspective to one of the hottest debates in business today: how much of search engine optimization and pay-per-click advertising is truly being transformed by AI, and how much is just hype.Together, Matt and Ben explore how AI has quietly powered pay-per-click campaigns for years, why large language models like ChatGPT and Perplexity are changing search habits without replacing Google, and what credibility signals businesses should be building across platforms such as YouTube, LinkedIn, podcasts, and PR.Support the show

It's on the market, so if you need a two-story monolith, a fire-warmed groove pit, or a stone shower, it can be yours for the low, low price of just $3.699M! If you're looking for some bad news about the 70s - both the decade of the last century and that era of life - the recent saga of Daryl Hall and John Oates might hit the spot. The septuagenarians have settled their lawsuits against each other, but it doesn't sound like either is thrilled. In the "stuff we completely missed" column, actress Laura Prepon married actor Ben Foster - Mazel! - and the pair have since divorced. Apparently their prenuptial agreement went a long way toward speeding that process, but both took the opportunity to fire a few reputational shots at the other. It seems that the Beckham family - England's David and Victoria and their now-adult children - is bending like... well, like any dysfunctional celebrity family might. Son Brooklyn and his wife Nicola renewed their vows sans any Beckham family representatives, while the famously social media clan has kept mum about the Instagram blasts celebrating the event. We covered the brief marriage of Oscar winner Halle Berry and Atlanta Brave David Justice years ago, but apparently David is still having - and expressing on podcasts - thoughts about that era of his life. Watch BONNIE (2022) NowThere's so few people involved in the film industry that can be referred to by just their first name, but in the case of my guest, Bonnie Timmermann, she is one who achieved that honor. If I asked you to pick 20 films out of the last 25 years, I would bet around 5 would have been cast by Bonnie. The documentary, now available for streaming, BONNIE (2022), is a must-watch.We go beyond the doc to talk about what she wish was covered, representation in casting, how directors and casting directors should look at TikTok and YouTube influencers, and more. In this episode, Bonnie and I discuss:The challenges of insincerity for a casting director; How she got started in casting and whether it's teachable; What the documentary on her life missed from her perspective;Representation in casting and when to use an actor (or not use an actor!) of a specific type; How she decides whether to work with a director or not;Whether in person casting translates to performance on film; How directors should look at casting TikTok and YouTube influencers; The difference in casting men and women;Did she feel like she got a casting decision wrong?Epic story about actor Ben Foster taking on a Ridley Scott film; How she casts accents; What's next for this amazing casting director. Bonnie's Indie Filmmaker Highlight: Brian SwibelMemorable Quotes:“I'm an emotional person. I'm terribly sensitive. I can be funny at times. I think humor helps you always. So yes, I think the darkest side of me helped me to see the darkest and the lightest sides of actors.”“I used to say, and it was true, if you find me, I'm yours because I would never list myself in a phone book or one of those books where you can find people.” “You are really the first director. You are directing the actor on film yourself, and you wanna get the best out of them so that when your director sees their work that they get a really good shot.”Links:Watch BONNIE (2022) Now Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/first-time-go/exclusive-content

Allí conoce a Raluca (Megan?

“The whole of Texas, huntin' our shadow…” 2016's Hell or High Water followed the story of two brothers robbing from the bank that's foreclosing on the family farm all the way to a Best Picture nomination. From director David Mackenzie and a soon-to-be Yellowstone empire architect Taylor Sheridan, the straightforward film deals with legacy, class and the universal relatability to a very specific place and time. Clint, Cal and Nick talk about westerns as a genre that looks good with “neo” in front of it, Chris Pine as a mustache influencer, and how Ben Foster is the most interesting thing on screen in whatever movie he's in (even when he plays a wizard!) Meanwhile, Dan's Algorithm would think there'd be 10 of it… CineFix Top 100 was created by Clint Gage and Dan Parkhurst and is produced by Tayo Oyekan, with Technical Producers, Marhyan Franzen and Amir Rakib. You never know what's going to drive you to the brink....On this episode we dive into the complex areas of obsession and even Men's mental health with 'Sharp Corner'.Josh (Ben Foster) is increasingly consumed by the fatal car crashes in front of his house. As Josh's obsession takes hold, he begins to spiral, placing his wife and son in jeopardy and setting in motion a series of events that threaten to permanently break the family apart.'Sharp Corner' is a shocking reminder of the psychological labyrinth's that are around all of our corners each and every day. Co-Writer/Director Jason Buxton manages to take us into an emotional maelstrom that quietly and rather powerfully walks us to the edge of a life on the brink of falling apart.Buxton and his team crafted a truly fantastic set piece and we had the please of sitting down with him before the release to talk about the origins of the story, getting his ensemble on the same page and so very much more....

In Alaska, amongst rolling snowstorms, the town of Barrow enters their month-long night. Only a fraction of the town stays to stick it out. Soon, a stranger (Ben Foster) arrives and creates havoc – especially with the town's ability to communicate. If this wasn't enough, a bunch of vampires in suits show up and just destroy everyone! Sheriff Eben Oleson (Josh Hartnett) and the fire marshal, Stella (Melissa George), round up a handful of survivors in an attempt to hide throughout the town to survive until the sun rises again. Also, Beau Brower (Mark Boone Junior) goes on a much-needed vampire kill-spree. RTS makes the best of this end of winter month of darkness by watching a film about a month of darkness. Very meta! Jeremy and Collin throw a bunch of these blood-sucking demons into a metal masher. La-Mar asks a nice vampire child for a bag of chips at the general store. He gets them! Sometimes, you just have to ask nicely. Nemo and Rami go the old-fashioned route and simply explode vampire heads. That is VERY effective! Eat your can of cherries and stay warm tonight. Nighty night. Don't let the vampires bite.

It was GOALS GALORE in the Premier League this weekend!! On the Football Fill-In today we have Ben Foster, Darren Bent, Dave Watson and Tom Ochoa as we talk about this weekend of fixtures! Our first game starts off with the Super Sunday match, which was Liverpool vs Manchester City. What is going on at City and is Pep losing the plot? We discuss all on this game and how it's now Liverpools title to lose… Moving on, Chelsea beat Villa 3-0 in a convincing win, we had a look at their upcoming fixtures and it looks good for them, could they push for a title charge?! West Ham vs Arsenal saw seven goals in the first half which could lead to worrying times for West Ham and Julen Lopetegui. Manchester United are off the mark with their first win in the PL under Ruben Amorim with a 4-0 victory over Everton, with one manager coming in, will one manager be coming out in the name of Sean Dyche? We also discuss Marcus Rashford going to the USA and how good Amad Diallo was! Looking at the game in the midlands, we head to Wolves in a thrilling 4-2 defeat to Bournemouth. Wolves gave away three penalties which could all have been avoided, but in doing so, Bournemouth broke two Premier League records with Evanilson being the first to win a hat-tick of penalties and Justin Kluivert the first to score a hat-trick of penalties! Brentford's AMAZING home record continues with a 4-1 win over Leicester as Ruud van Nistelrooy watches in the stands with the owners. Kevin Schade scores a hat-tick and he is the 2nd Brentford player to score a PL hat-tick with the first being Ivan Toney! Staying in London, Spurs hosted Fulham as they drew 1-1, which leads to Spurs fans being frustrated with the lack of consistency with results. Crystal Palace host Newcastle, and Palace were dominant and deserved a point going right to the final whistle. A potential worrying time for Newcastle as they only managed 1 shot the whole game with 0 being on target. Isak also comes off injured too which doesn't look good for the Magpies. Moving to the final two games, Brighton hosted Southampton on Friday night, which caused a divide in opinion in the studio today with that Adam Armstrong offside. Do you think the goal should have counted? Finally, Forest beat Ipswich 1-0 with a Chris Wood penalty taking them to 6th in the table! Learn more about your ad choices. This week on the Football Fill-In we have Ben Foster, Darren Bent, Dave Watson and Tom Ochoa on the show! We have also spruced up our set so we hope you all like it! The first game this week was Leicester vs Chelsea with Enzo Maresca going back to his old club, but the big talking point was Steve Cooper being sacked from Leicester. Who's going to replace him? Speaking of managers, Ruben Amorim had his first game against newly promoted Ipswich, but it wasn't the start that they hope for! Moving to the other Manchester Club, Man City signed Pep Guardiola on another 2 year contact but that wasn't enough to stop spurs as they thrashed City 4-0 away from home! Cunha stars for Wolves as they win 4-1 vs Fulham, giving Wolves back to back wins in the Premier League! Arsenal shine as Odegaard returns in 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest. Bens former Watford teammate Joao Pedro was involved for two goals for Brighton as they get a 2-1 win over Bournemouth! Will Brighton make it into the Champions League spots? Speaking of Bens former teammates, Ismaïla Sarr scores his first PL goal in over three years as Palace get a draw against Aston Villa! The final draw of the weekend was Everton vs Brentford which finished 0-0. Will Brentford improve that away record? The final fixture we talked about was Southampton vs Liverpool, in a game where people thought Liverpool were going to run riot, Southampton showed their strength but Salahs penalty was enough for them to get the three points as they sit top of the table. Thank you all for watching!! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
