For audiences that love action and hate dialogue, "Motor City" might be the movie for you. Alan Ritchson stars in this over-the-top crime thriller set in 1970s Detroit. There are only about four lines of dialogue in this entire story of a man who escapes from prison to seek revenge on a drug dealer who framed him. Ben Foster and Shailene Woodley co-star in a plot propelled by classic music of the era. The whole affair gets increasingly ridiculous as it progresses and that finale is unintentionally funny. Still, "Motor City" has just enough absurd thrills to rev the engines of undemanding action fans. Maybe all you need to say about the Netflix action comedy "72 Hours" is that it stars Kevin Hart. Fans take note. Others beware. Hart plays a forty-year-old promotional exec who goes on a bachelor party weekend in Miami with some 20-somethings to see how young people behave. Teyana Taylor and some SNL stars are wasted in support. The humor is raunchy, and the script is devoid of even a moment of realism. Still, it generates a few low-brow laughs, but not enough to justify its length.... that just seems like 72 hours. The script for the Apple TV comedy "The Dink" plays like one that Will Ferrell would have rejected 20 years ago. In this coarse sports comedy, Jake Johnson plays a former tennis bad boy who is reduced to coaching pickleball at his father's struggling tennis club. Mary Steenburgen co-stars as an older pickleball player Jake takes a shine to. Its farcical approach occasionally serves up a laugh, but it never manages to make it to 11.

It is loud, violent, strangely romantic and, thankfully, almost entirely uninterested in people sitting around explaining themselves. It's a huge weekend at the movies! Here's what we reviewed for you in the latest episode of our Breakfast All Day podcast: PREDATOR: BADLANDS: We were shocked at how much we enjoyed this. It's a blast of a summer popcorn movie, dropped right in the middle of prestige movie season. And you don't need to know much about the Predator franchise going into it. (FYI, some light spoilers here.) In theaters. SENTIMENTAL VALUE: A major awards contender, and possibly the best movie of the year (according to Christy, at least). The latest from director and co-writer Joachim Trier ("The Worst Person in the World") is a moving family drama starring Stellan Skarsgård and Renate Reinsve. In theaters. DIE MY LOVE: Jennifer Lawrence absolutely goes for it in this harrowing story of post-partum depression. Director Lynne Ramsay puts Lawrence through the wringer in her role as a new mom navigating the isolation of a Montana farmhouse. Robert Pattinson co-stars as her husband. In theaters. CHRISTY: Of course we had to review this. Sydney Sweeney transforms herself to play Christy Martin, the coal miner's daughter who became a trailblazer in the world of women's boxing. Ben Foster is chilling as her abusive trainer and husband. But this is a pretty standard sports biopic. In theaters. No movie news livestream this week because Christy is traveling. "Christy" is an American biographical sports drama film about the former professional boxer Christy Martin, played by Sydney Sweeney (she also served as one of the film's producers), directed by David Michôd and co-starring Ben Foster. The film chronicles Martin's rise to becoming America's most well-known female boxer in the 1990s, and later her husband's attempt to murder her in 2010. The film had its world premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, where it received positive reviews for Sweeney and Foster's performances. Michôd, Sweeney and Foster were all kind enough to spend a few minutes speaking with us about their work and experiences making the film, which you can listen to below.
