What does a Film Programmer do? I talk to James McEvoy to find out what programming the Warwick Arts Centre cinema, a three screens-cinema, based on a university campus but also serving a local and regional audience, involves. Who is the audience and how to build new ones is part of the conversation. We touch on Flatpack, the MAC, the Mockingbird, Square-Eye TV, Lock Studios, Steven Knight, the Forward Film Festival. James tells me about licenses and knowing who holds the rights to a film, which is sometimes confusing while underlining he is uninterested in gate-keeping, actively seeking collaborations and stressing the importance of getting the word out We spend a considerable time discussing the exciting new programme: there will be live opera and theatre projections; BFI funded seasons; the opportunity of seeing films financed by Netflix on a big screen. Programmes to look out for are the Silent Cinema screenings with live accompaniment, the melodrama season, Richard Dyer speaking on Brief Encounter, and more. Each year there's an over-arching theme across the whole of the Arts Centre. This year the focus is on care. The film programme component is called is ‘Handle with Car,' with a substrand on Cozy Classics, which will involve screening a classic film once a month. There will be tea and biscuits – feel free to BYOB (Blanket not Booze) -- an opportunity for people to get together and see things on a big screen. The Arts Centre will also be bringing its 35mm projector back into action for November screening of Cinema Paradiso. Part of another strand of the Care programme is ‘Care Behind the Scenes,' co-programmed with Dr. Alice Pember and Dr. Julie Lobalzo-Wright, which will also have workshops as well as screenings (e.g. intimacy co-ordination'). The Programme will include Accessible and Inclusive screenings as well as Audio-Description (for first time at the Art Centre) and there will be some workshops attached to this strand as well. James stresses that the programming also takes on board an exploration of the local and the national with focus on independent and locally made cinema and with filmmakers holding Q&A's when possible. Amazon MGM and producers Scott Stuber and Jerry Bruckheimer are in final negotiations to secure the rights. Questa settimana si parte col solito “l'avevo detto io!” sul futuro di James Bond, che secondo Prince Faster è stato copiato direttamente dalla radio – e Hollywood lo sa. Gabriele conferma: Denis Villeneuve alla regia, Steven Knight alla sceneggiatura e una possibile origin story pre-007 che forse non vedremo mai. Si passa poi a House of Guinness, serie ottocentesca di Knight dove magari si colgono indizi bondiani. Arriva anche She Said Maybe, chicca turco-tedesca da non ridere (ma sì). Il pezzo forte è The Pit, serie medica tutta steadycam e tagli a mitraglia, erede diretta di E.R.: chi la ama, chi la pirata, chi la traduce con le cuffie magiche. In ogni caso, ci si diverte.

Apple TV+ hat unsere Planung in dieser Woche über den Haufen geworfen, weil drei Tage vor Start der Thriller "The Savant" kurzfristig verschoben/abgesetzt/zensiert wurde. Eine Entscheidung, die nicht nur Hauptdarstellerin Jessica Chastain stark kritisiert hat. Holger, Michael und Rüdiger dürfen die Serie zwar nicht offiziell besprechen, haben sich aber Gedanken zu den Hintergründen gemacht, die weniger mit der Ermordung von Charlie Kirk zu tun haben dürften, als mit Apples Angst vor politischen Repressionen (3:40). Den Besprechungsteil beginnen wir dann mit der Netflix-Serie "House of Guinness" (17:53), mit der Steven Knight nach "Peaky Blinders" und "A Thousand Blows" sein Faible für unterhaltsame Historienserien fortsetzt. Auch wenn keiner von uns das schwarze Gold trinkt, haben zumindest einige von uns großen Spaß an dem wilden Ritt durch die Bierbrauer-Geschichte gehabt. Danach geht es mit der fünften Staffel von "Slow Horses" (40:30) bei Apple TV+ auf sehr sicheres Territorium, schließlich hat die Agentenserie mit Gary Oldman bisher noch nie enttäuscht. Allerdings sollten sich alle Fans darauf einstellen, eine tonal recht andere Staffel präsentiert zu bekommen. Und schließlich ziehen wir nach dem Finale von "Alien: Earth" (1:00:07) noch einmal ein Fazit ohne Rücksicht aus Spoiler und beurteilen ob sich unser guter Eindruck nach den ersten sechs Folgen gehalten hat. Finally, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the longstanding rumor that Mark Ruffalo is reprising his role as Bruce Banner/The Hulk for the film, while Better Call Saul actor, Michael Mando, was also announced to be returning as Mac Gargan/The Scorpion.The Fantastic Four: First Steps continued its box office reign, raking in $39.6 million its second weekend for a $368 million total global haul. While far from a defeat, the staggering 67% drop from the flick's first weekend presents a significant loss in momentum and is in stark contrast with expectations, which were largely fueled by positive reception and strong word of mouth among critics and fans. Elsewhere, Superman crossed the $550 million milestone internationally, and Jurassic World: Rebirth passed $750 million at the global box office after 5 weeks in theaters, becoming only the third film of 2025 to do so behind Lilo & Stitch and A Minecraft Movie. Amazon MGM's upcoming James Bond film being directed by Dune's Denis Villeneuve, is quickly coming together as Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has been hired to pen the script. Considering candidates for our new Bond, as if we could ever get enough of Tom Holland, the actor went on record to voice his reverence for the role as the “pinnacle” for British actors, while seemingly disqualifying himself by announcing another break from acting in 2027.Per Deadline, Matt Smith has joined the cast of Shawn Levy's Star Wars: Starfighter in a villain role, set to appear alongside Ryan Gosling and Mia Goth in the film set for May 28, 2027.
