The government has agreed a bailout worth 56 million euro for RTÉ. 16 million of which will be given in the coming weeks, with a further 40 million euro to follow next year. New reforms for the national broadcaster will include no RTÉ staff can earn more than the Director General Kevin Bakhurst, who currently earns around a quarter of a million euro a year. Joe Duffy, Claire Byrne and Miriam O'Callaghan all face a reduction in salaries as part of the new cuts. The national broadcaster's new strategic vision and cost-cutting plan outlines a 'voluntary redundancy scheme' where the workforce at the organisation will be cut by 20% resulting in 400 job losses between 2024 and 2028, and will target those who earn over one hundred thousand euro a year.
