In January 2022, news about the murder of a young teacher in Tullamore, Ireland, would start to ripple through the media. It was soon a case on everyones minds, both in Ireland and much further afield. Every case is horrific, but certain cases leave a lasting and profound impact in huge ways... in ways we have not experienced before. And in the words of the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, the case of 23 year old Ashling Murphy has “united the nation in solidarity and revulsion”. https://linktr.ee/trulycriminal1 Sources

Tá sé ar intinn acu seasamh gualainn ar ghualainn chun áitiú ar thíortha Eorpacha cúiteamh a dhíol as coireanna stairiúla, lena n-áirítear an trádáil thrasatlantach sclábhaíochta. Foilseofar Forógra Accra, ina leagfar amach conas a rachaidh an feachtas chun cinn. Ceaptar go mbeidh ráiteas cuimsitheach chun leithscéal a ghabháil le muintir de bhunús Afracach i measc na n-iarratas. Rinne Rí Séarlas III den Ríocht Aontaithe tagairt don stair agus é ar cuairt sa Chéinia le déanaí ach ní dhearna sé leithscéal foirmiúil. In Éirinn, tugadh príosún saoil don fhear a dhúnmharaigh an múinteoir bunscoile Ashling Murphy i mí Eanáir 2022. Bhí an bhean óg, a bhí 23 bliana d'aois ag an am, amuigh ag rith in aice le canáil um thráthnóna nuair a rinneadh ionsaí uirthi. Shéan an cosantóir go ndearna sé an choir, in ainneoin go raibh scéalta eile inste aige cheana. Léigh páirtí agus muintir Ashling ráitis tionchair íospartaigh ag an Phríomh-Chúirt Choiriúil Dé hAoine, inar chuir siad in iúl an croíbhriseadh atá orthu ar fad. Meastar go bhfuil foréigean in aghaidh ban ina ghéarchéim anois, agus ocht mbean déag eile maraithe ó fuair Ashling bás. Fógraíodh inné go mbainfear 10 bpointe den chlub sacair Everton mar gheall ar sháruithe ar rialacha a bhaineann le cothromaíocht airgeadais i bpríomhshraith an spóirt i Sasana. Faoi rialacha na sraithe sin, níl cead ag club ar bith níos mó ná £105m a chailleadh sa bhliain, ach tugadh le fios gur chaill an club, atá lonnaithe i Learpholl, beagnach £400m le linn trí bliana. Is é seo an pionós is airde a gearradh ar chlub sa tsraith, ach thiocfadh leis an scéal dul in olcas dóibh mar tá clubanna eile ag bagairt cás dlí a thabhairt ina n-éadan, ós rud é gur cuireadh síos i sraith níos ísle iadsan sa tréimhse chéanna, agus Everton ag fanacht sa phríomhshraith. Cuireadh níos mó ná céad sárú ar na rialacha i leith Manchester City ach níl fíorasc tugtha go fóill. * Léirithe ag Conradh na Gaeilge i Londain.
