Lawsuits, lunch-barrows, and laundry! On this episode of Afternoons with Zweli, we’re asking: "When is it time to take the family to court?" We kick off with a mind-blowing story from China where a 10-year-old boy is legally suing his father for blowing his life savings on a lavish second wedding. But the drama doesn't stop there—the 947 family called in with some "only in Joburg" stories that will leave you stunned. We talk to a woman whose boyfriend broke her washing machine (after letting his other girlfriend use it!) and a listener who is ready to serve her uncle papers for his wild spending habits. It’s an emotional, hilarious, and high-stakes look at accountability and the thin line between family bonds and legal battles. Spend weekday afternoons with Zweli. He keeps you in the loop with everything from music and movies to sport and pop culture. Hear what the Word on the Street is, test your skills with the high-pressure 6 Out of 6, and get ready to be entertained. Wedding planning can stir up complicated family dynamics, emotional pressure, and strong opinions. In today's episode, we talk honestly about navigating family expectations during your engagement. From financial contributions and blended families to estranged relationships, religion, tradition, and setting boundaries with well-meaning relatives, this episode offers reassurance and practical tools for protecting your peace. You'll walk away with clear grounding affirmations, boundary-setting phrases, and permission to plan a wedding that reflects your values - not your family's expectations. Personal affirmations that you can hold close in the coming months: We will never please everyone, and that's OK. I can lovingly hold boundaries with my _______ . (fill in the blank family member) Other peoples' emotions are not my responsibility. I am allowed to say no without explanation. I trust our wedding vision - we know what's right for our day. Boundary-setting taglines to keep in your back pocket: Thanks — we'll think about it and let you know. We appreciate the suggestion, but we're going in a different direction. We already have a firm plan for that, but thanks for the idea! Let's circle back on that later. And my Golden Rule when managing family input and expectations: Over-explaining invites further conversation and negotiation. Short + sweet shuts it down. She works in real estate, buying up buildings to build new business centers and what not. She finds out that the next purchase she needs to help push forward is actually her parents' church in Texas. She claims it won't be a problem. She gets a call from someone named "DO NOT ANSWER". Whoever is on the other line is shooting his shot and trying to get back with her which she agrees to.Richard comes over and breaks up with Marissa. She's heartbroken. But off to Texas she goes to be with her family. And Marissa is shocked when her sister shows up with her boyfriend....RICHARD!!! That's right. It's an absolute mess. While that's happening, Alicia and Kyle are also fighting because she thinks he's cheating on her with a girl who is texting him. Turns out, it's just his therapist checking up on him because he apparently has yet to tell his wife that he has ED. And now the entire family knows. It's a mess.Ultimately, Richard scrams, the sisters make up, Kerry quits her job because she doesn't want her family to sell the church that brings them so much joy, Alicia and Kyle make up, and everyone has a merry Christmas. What happens when your partner's family doesn't like you, or when you don't like them?In this episode, we talk about the uncomfortable reality of dating someone whose family crosses boundaries, judges you, or quietly disrespects you. We break down why family dynamics hit harder than friend drama, how to communicate the issue without starting a war, and when “keeping the peace” actually costs you the relationship. This isn't about cutting people off. It's about boundaries, loyalty, and protecting your relationship without losing yourself in the process. If you've ever felt unsupported, silenced, or stuck between love and family expectations, this episode is for you.Sponsored by Toxico Scentshttps://skarxface.etsy.comMy Socialshttps://linktr.ee/SkarxFace

This week we're unpacking what it really means to manage relationships as an adult because apparently no one warned us it would feel like a full-time job. We break down the Ashley Tisdale “toxic mom group” drama and how navigating friendships at different life stages can quietly shift power dynamics, expectations, and resentment. From there, we dive into the Brooklyn Beckham family drama and talk about the complicated process of becoming your own person outside of your family (especially when love and control start to blur).
