When terrible things happen in our communities or around the world, fear can quickly rise in our hearts. But Jesus asks a piercing question: “Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” In today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef points believers back to the futility of anxiety and the faithfulness of the Father. Our attitude toward possessions often reveals our spiritual temperature. When our homes, cars, education, clothing, bank accounts, or future security become more important than our relationship with Christ, anxiety and fear take root. But when we practice daily surrender—placing our fears, desires, and worries into Jesus' hands—we discover the inner peace only He can give. Dr. Youssef reminds us that God has promised to provide for all our needs according to His riches in Christ Jesus. When anxiety overtakes us, it is often because we have temporarily forgotten the privileges we possess as children of the King. Our future is secure, our deepest longings will be satisfied, and God is working all things for the good of those who love Him. Waiting is never easy, but God's purpose is served when we wait on Him. He has already prepared the answer to your anxiety—and He is preparing you for His answer. Seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness, listen to His voice, submit to His direction, and trust that He will provide. Prayer: Father, help me to daily surrender my fears, anxieties, and desires to You. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:23-24). Learn more in Dr. Michael A. There are times when God withholds something we deeply desire—a relationship, a job, a possession, or an answered prayer—and our confidence in Him feels tested. In today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef encourages believers to seek the Lord, wait for His will, and remember that our heavenly Father knows what we need even better than we do. But while God withholds for our good, we often withhold from God to our own harm. When we cling tightly to earthly treasures, possessions, gifts, or plans, we create fertile ground for worry and anxiety. Jesus calls us away from storing up treasures on earth and toward storing up treasures in heaven—living with open hands and eternal priorities. Dr. Youssef points to God's solution for anxiety: trust Him fully and use what He has entrusted to you for His glory. Because of Christ, believers are more than conquerors. We live with the assurance of eternal victory—victory over sin, death, fear, worry, and every earthly loss. Don't be anxious about life. Seek first God's Kingdom and His righteousness, and trust Him to meet every need in Christ Jesus. Prayer: God, help me to trust You even when it seems You are withholding something from me. May I not withhold anything from You. Help me to turn away from worry and anxiety today. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:33-34). Learn more in Dr. Michael A. In this message from Matthew 15:29–16:4, Pastor Karl examines two very different groups of people who come to Jesus — and what their approach reveals about how we receive grace. The first group comes from the Decapolis, a Gentile region with no religious standing or covenant claim. They bring broken bodies, unspoken needs, and nothing to offer — and Jesus meets them with compassion, healing, and even provision they didn't know to ask for. The second group, the Pharisees and Sadducees, arrives with suspicion and a demand for proof — and Jesus refuses to perform for them. The contrast surfaces a powerful truth: Jesus has endless compassion for those who come to him needy, but no obligation to satisfy those who come feeling entitled. Unworthiness isn't a disqualification for grace — it's the prerequisite for it.Pastor Karl unpacks why the disciples hesitated to feed the 4,000 (it wasn't that they forgot what Jesus could do — it was that they questioned who he'd do it for), what it really means to "fall from grace," and why the cross is the only reliable lens through which to interpret God's love. When we bring our "not enough" to Jesus, we find that inadequacy is exactly the raw material he's looking for.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 8:00am, 9:30am & 11:00am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm

What does the providence of God really mean? Is God only involved in the extraordinary moments of life, or is His hand at work in every breath, every provision, and every circumstance we face? In this broadcast of Words of Grace, Ben Winslett begins a study of God’s providence by exploring the biblical truth that … Continue reading "Trusting in Providence (Part 1): God Provides"

“What’s my birthmother’s name?” My seven-year-old daughter’s sincere question pierced my heart. Ours had been a private adoption where we were provided only the most basic of information about her parents: height, weight, age, color of hair and eyes. How was I to respond? The question felt impossible! I drew in a breath and prayed, “God, what do I say?” A sentence tumbled out of my mouth, “What would you like her name to be?” She beamed at me and proclaimed, “Madeline!” “Then, Madeline it is!” I declared. In just a few minutes, I believe God had provided an answer when I didn’t have one. In the years after His death, Jesus’ followers would encounter great challenges where they needed God’s answers in seemingly impossible situations. In John 14, Jesus promised He would not leave them alone but would come to them with help (v. 18). Further, God would provide an ongoing flow of help: “The Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you” (v. 26). Sometimes the questions we face seem impossible to answer. We need God’s help and answers with our children, our work, our neighbors and our world. When we don’t have the answers, He can provide them.
In uncertain times, it can be tempting to justify even small acts of stealing. But these compromises often reveal how little we trust in God's provision. Stealing is not only a reflection of our character, but also of our faith. Psalm 104 Day 6: Why Are We So Worried When God Provides for Everything Else? Psalm 104:24-26 “O Lord, what an amazing variety of all you have created! Wild and wonderful is this world you have made, while wisdom was there at your side. This world is full of so many creatures, yet each belongs to you! And then there is the sea! So vast! So wide and deep—swarming with countless forms of sea life, both small and great. Trading ships glide through the high seas. And look! There are the massive whales bounding upon the waves.” I like this verse because it praises the Lord for being so amazing. I believe the Lord loves it when we praise Him. Who doesn't want a little acknowledgment? It begins with, “O Lord, what an amazing variety of all you have created!” Have you ever thought about that? Have you ever taken the time to slow down and look at all the nature around you? Have you ever really thought about the variety of things the Lord has created? He created humans, all animals, all vegetation, all rock formations, the seas, the skies, and the stars. When we take the time to think about it, the variety of things He has created really is amazing. There are 400,000 types of flowering plant species all around the world. Over 1.5 million living animal species have been described, of which around 1.05 million are insects, over 85,000 are mollusks, and around 65,000 are vertebrates. It has been estimated that there are as many as 7.77 million animal species on Earth. There are around 1,097 different vegetables worldwide. God didn't need to give us all of that. We don't need that much variety. Plants provide us with food, oxygen, and energy. However, we don't need 400,000 different types of flowers. However, God wanted to give us variety. We also don't need over a million different kinds of animals, but God gave them to us anyway. Let's take a minute and appreciate all God did for us. The verse says, “Wild and wonderful is this world you have made while wisdom was at your side.” This verse reminds us that God did not accidentally create anything. He knew what He was doing, and each thing He made had a purpose. He thought about everything. He didn't leave anything out. He made sure that every living thing had something to eat. This includes the plants, the insects, the animals, everything. Take a minute and imagine how much thought it would take not only to create all that God created but also to ensure they had the right environment to live in, the right resources, and the food they needed to survive. It really is remarkable. Next, it says, “This world is full of so many creatures, yet each belongs to you!” Each creature on this earth belongs to the Lord our God. The animals don't have to worry about where their food will come from. They know they are creatures of God and that He will take care of them. We are also God's creatures, and He will take care of us, too! We don't have to worry either. Worry comes pretty naturally to most of us, and yet it is not necessary. This morning in Philippians 4:19, I read, “I am convinced that my God will fully satisfy every need you have, for I have seen the abundant riches of glory revealed to me through Jesus Christ. This was Paul talking to the Philippians, but He is speaking to us too! God will take care of all we need. He has abundant riches, and he wants to shower them upon us. He has so much glory, grace, love, forgiveness, and mercy. We don't have any reason to be anxious; God will take care of all of our worries! Next, it says, “And then there is the sea! So vast! So wide and deep—swarming with countless forms of sea life, both small and great.” This is just reiterating the vastness of the Lord's creation. Think of how many different sea creatures there are. It is known that there are more than 260,000 species living in the seas, and many more remain to be discovered. Some scientists believe there are more than a million species in the seas. How amazing is that? Each one of them has everything they need to survive. Let's remind ourselves of this when we get anxious. Hundreds of thousands of species live in the seas, including species of plants. There are millions of animal species, and God provides for all of them. If he can provide for the plants and animals, how much more will he provide for us? The verse ends with, “Trading ships glide through the high seas. And look! There are the massive whales bounding upon the waves.” This reminds us that besides all the creatures in the sea, we also use the sea for trading. It provides fish for us to eat and can also support our livelihoods. This version says that there are massive whales bounding upon the waves. However, the New Revised Standard Catholic Edition says, "There go the ships and Leviathan that you formed to sport in it.” When I looked this up, it said that Leviathan is a sea monster. The commentators said Leviathan was included in this Psalm to show us that even the sea monster is under God's control. God created all things, and God does not make mistakes. God created all the plants and animals and made sure they all had what they needed to survive. Doesn't it make sense that if God provides for the plants and animals, He will provide for us, too? We are His children, made in His likeness and image. He made us above all plants and animals. He gave us dominion over the plants and animals. So, why are we the only ones worrying about where our next meal will come from or if we will have enough money to pay our bills? God has got us in the palm of His hand. He will provide for us. All we need to do is trust Him! Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless everyone listening to this episode. Lord, we ask you to help us notice all your creations around us. Help us to believe that you provide for all their needs, so you will provide for our needs, too. Help us not to be anxious about anything. Lord, help us to appreciate the variety of your creation. Bring our attention to your majesty in this world. We love you, Lord, and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus's holy name, Amen! In this message from Matthew 14, Pastor Karl explores two seemingly separate events — the beheading of John the Baptist and the feeding of the five thousand — and reveals how they are deeply connected as a portrait of two contrasting kingdoms.Drawing on the parallel between Herod's banquet and Jesus's meal in the wilderness, Pastor Karl shows what sets the kingdom of the world apart from the kingdom of God: one ends in death, self-service, and corruption; the other in life, compassion, and abundance. Through the stories of Elijah, Elisha, and Moses, he demonstrates that the disciples had all the history they needed to trust Jesus in the moment — and yet, like us, they forgot. At the heart of this teaching is a simple but powerful truth: you are insufficient, but you are not useless. The kingdom of God doesn't have a supply problem — it has a distribution problem. God has never asked how much you have. He only asks what you have — and what you place in his hands, he multiplies.Discipleship, Pastor Karl argues, always involves cost, courage, compassion, commands, and cooperation. The good news is that the Good Shepherd is more than sufficient for all his sheep.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 8:00am, 9:30am & 11:00am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm

A single Psalm line can mess with your head—in a good way. Joe Rockey brings a phrase from the Good Shepherd Mass that sounds impossible on first hearing: “The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.” Joe's honest reaction is simple: I still want things… like a burger. So what is the Church actually saying here?Father Boniface Hicks grounds it in Psalm 23's meaning: the Lord provides for our needs—He doesn't leave us destitute or deprived. Desire isn't the enemy; it's essential. St. Augustine calls prayer an exercise of holy desire, and the spiritual life involves attuning and purifying what we want. The key is order: keep God at the top of the value hierarchy, resist the temptation to cut corners on Him to “provide for ourselves,” and trust that if we seek first the Kingdom, God will provide what's needed—often in ways we wouldn't have predicted. Joe then gives a concrete, family-life example: raising little kids at Mass can feel embarrassing and “imperfect,” but staying faithful reshaped the whole parish. Their consistency helped normalize young families, encouraged grandparents to invite their children, and grew the number of small kids in the congregation. Father reframes it: Mass isn't a private piety project—it's communal worship. A healthy parish supports families instead of treating them like an “intrusion.” Children don't just disrupt; they awaken the community to reality and train the body of Christ to revolve around the weakest members—like a healthy family does. The episode closes with an athletic analogy: practice includes drills and scrimmage. We aim at “ideal prayer” in quiet moments, but we also learn to worship faithfully in the real-world chaos—because that's how love matures. Key Ideas“Nothing I shall want” doesn't mean “no desires”; it means God provides what is needed and doesn't abandon us. Desire is good; prayer forms and purifies desire (“holy desire” as a spiritual discipline). Keep God at the top of the value hierarchy instead of cutting corners to self-provide. Kids at Mass reveal what the Church is: a body, not an individual “quiet bubble.” Healthy communities revolve around the weakest members; that's how God loves us and how parishes should live. God provides for life after the flood -- offering protection and life until full provision comes through Jesus.
Various March 29, 2026 SS.Humanity faces only two ultimate destinations: life with God or eternal separation from Him. Though many believe that different religions or sincere efforts can lead to God, Scripture teaches that all people begin on the same path — one leading to death because of sin. Only God Himself provides the remedy through the substitutionary sacrifice of Jesus Christ. This message explains why Christ alone bridges the gulf and offers the only way to be with God forever.

1 Kings 17 introduces the prophet Elijah and shows God's power and care during a time of severe drought. God first provides for Elijah through ravens by the brook, then sends him to a widow in Zarephath whose small supply of flour and oil never runs out. When the widow's son later dies, God uses Elijah to bring the child back to life, revealing His power over life and death. This chapter reminds us that God is our true source—He provides in unlikely ways, sustains us in hard seasons, and shows His glory through faith and obedience. What will Israel do in the face of adversity? God had warned Moses that He would harden Pharaoh's heart, and there would be a confrontation between God and Pharaoh. The clash of rivals plays out in chapter five as Pharaoh shows his unwillingness to surrender his authority to the “God of the Hebrews.” The great question in this chapter is what the people of God will do when facing hardship after initially believing God's promise to deliver them from their burdens. Whom will they serve?

Life doesn’t always give us time to plan—and that’s often where God’s provision becomes most visible. This Crosswalk Devotional centers on Exodus 12:31–39, reminding us that when preparation is impossible, God still provides exactly what we need. The Israelites left Egypt abruptly, carrying unfinished dough into an uncertain future, yet God faithfully supplied every step of their journey. Their hurried departure wasn’t an oversight—it was an invitation to trust. This Christian devotional speaks to seasons of disruption, loss, and uncertainty, when routines fall apart and control slips through our fingers. Whether facing sudden change, grief, or exhaustion, Scripture shows us that God uses moments of unpreparedness to reveal His character. When we can’t rely on our plans, we learn to rely on His promises. Highlights God often works powerfully in moments when we feel least prepared The Israelites’ rushed escape reveals God’s intentional provision Loss of control can become an invitation to deeper trust God’s provision is not limited by our circumstances or planning Seasons of uncertainty help us remember we are God’s children, not slaves Dependence on God strengthens faith and reveals His faithfulness When preparation fails, prayer becomes our lifeline Do you want to listen ad-free? Leave my people, you and the Israelites! Go, worship the LORD as you have requested. Take your flocks and herds, as you have said, and go. And also bless me.” The Egyptians urged the people to hurry and leave the country. “For otherwise,” they said, “we will all die!” So the people took their dough before the yeast was added, and carried it on their shoulders in kneading troughs wrapped in clothing. The Israelites did as Moses instructed and asked the Egyptians for articles of silver and gold and for clothing. The LORD had made the Egyptians favorably disposed toward the people, and they gave them what they asked for; so they plundered the Egyptians. The Israelites journeyed from Rameses to Sukkoth. There were about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides women and children. Many other people went up with them, and also large droves of livestock, both flocks and herds. With the dough the Israelites had brought from Egypt, they baked loaves of unleavened bread. The dough was without yeast because they had been driven out of Egypt and did not have time to prepare food for themselves. - Exodus 12:31-39 Our family recently traveled 300 miles north to spend the holidays at home, where my husband and I both grew up. Though we had planned for an extended stay, we did not sleep well on the first or second night, and on the following morning, my husband woke with a terrible bout of food poisoning. Exhausted, exasperated, and with a terribly achy back, I couldn’t imagine being away from home for even another moment. Before the sun had even risen, I announced, “That’s it. We need to leave—today.” In a rush, I threw apples and slippers and dog food into any spare bag I could find. I stuffed dirty clothes back into suitcases and rummaged in the fridge for anything that could qualify as breakfast for the kids. I promised myself we’d all brush our teeth later. And then, with our odds and ends shoved into every spare crevice of the car, we sped off, not even stopping to say goodbye to our family on the way out of town. All day, I felt unsettled. Our luggage was disorganized, we were subsisting on a bag of chocolate-covered espresso beans, and, as I discovered later, two out of our three kids weren’t even wearing socks! Our careful routines—and my sense of any control—had gone out the window. And it was deeply uncomfortable. It made me sympathize with the Israelites, who were pushed out of Egypt in such a hurry that they weren’t even finished making the dough for their bread; they swept it up onto their shoulders and lugged it off into the great unknown. They did not have time to prepare provisions for themselves. But their journey was more than just one long day down the interstate. It was forty years of wandering. Forty years of being unsettled. Forty years of not being in control. Forty years of having to depend on Someone Else to provide for them. I think their rapid departure from Egypt was an intentional move on God’s part. I believe he wanted to make sure they did not have time to prepare—not because he wanted them to feel uncomfortable, but because he wanted to show them that he would provide everything they needed. He wanted to show them what it meant to be the people of the One True Living God. He wanted to position them to understand that they were not slaves any longer: they were his children, and they could trust him to take care of them. Intersecting Faith & Life: There are times in our lives that we simply cannot prepare for. A loss of a job. The death of someone we love. Or maybe just a husband waking up with food poisoning. Though we might despise the situation and wish to cling to control with everything we’ve got (which are very natural and human responses!), in moments of disquiet, may we find the courage to look at God and ask him what he wishes to show us about his character in these times. When he puts us in positions of total abandon—where our illusions of control and carefully measured procedures have been stripped away—may we learn to pray: God, Show me your goodness. I have nothing. You are in control. I need you. Please provide. Amen. Further Reading:Throughout the Bible, people find themselves in situations where their only hope is to trust God to provide. Consider: Daniel telling Nebuchadnezzar the meaning of his dream (Daniel 2) Joshua’s army marching around the walls of Jericho (Joshua 6) Mary learning that she will give birth to Jesus (Luke 1) Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.

Matthew Summit returns this week to share the powerful story of how God faithfully provided for him after his biological father abandoned him as a preschooler. Though that loss could have defined his life, God stepped in with remarkable relational provision. A man who adopted Matthew, along with a devoted youth pastor, invested deeply in him, modeling healthy manhood and committing to him for the long haul. Through their presence, and through the steady love of his mother and wife, Matthew began to experience healing and restoration. In this episode, Matthew also shares how forgiving his biological father brought freedom and release to his heart. His journey is a beautiful reminder that while earthly relationships may fail, God never abandons His children. Today, Matthew serves as a youth pastor himself, offering the same faithful care to young people that was once given to him. His story is one that leads us to worship our good, good Father.
