Tom Kakert of Hawkeye Report joins The Gazette's John Steppe on the Hawk Off The Press podcast this week to discuss Thursday's big recruiting news. They talk about Iose Epenesa's recruiting process, why he ultimately followed his family to Iowa and how he'll fit in with the Hawkeyes.
Time to get the podcast machine fired up again to start the month of June. Tom Kakert and Kyle Huesmann get you caught up on the latest news in the world of Iowa athletics. This week there is plenty to cover when it comes to Iowa baseball, Hawkeye men's and women's hoops, an update on Caitlin Clark and the abuse she is taking in the WNBA, and we have a lot of football news as well. We open the show discuss the news this past week regarding Iowa baseball and Rick Heller is looking for a new pitching coach. What's the latest on that front? Also the portal for baseball opens this week. Which players could be return for the Hawkeyes and what might the starting rotation look like for Iowa next season? Then we turn our attention to Iowa women's basketball. Jan Jensen could be making the hire of an assistant coach as soon as this week. What do we think that assistant might be like and what skill set do they need? We also talk about Jensen making a couple of new offers and hosting a 2026 visitor and we get a status report on the Class of 2025 recruiting. We then discuss the ugly play by the Chicago Sky towards Cailtin Clark this past weekend and how that whole situation is getting messy in the WNBA and how petty some of the players are being towards the former Hawkeye. After that it's Iowa football talk. We discuss the release of start times late last week and how the Hawkeyes now have start times for half their regular season games. We discuss the addition of another walk-on quarterback, Ben Kueter winning a U20 title this past weekend and what that could mean for his football season early on this fall, and a big Iowa Swarm event coming up June 17th at the I-80 Truckstop in Walcott. Finally we wrap up the pod talking Iowa hoops. Payton Sandfort is back, which is huge news for the Hawkeyes NCAA Tournament chances this season. And we update recruiting in the Class of 2025 after Fran McCaffery handed out a bunch of new offers in the middle of last week.
It's another edition of the Hawkeye Report Podcast and this time, unfortunately, we are wrapping up a very frustrating Iowa Baseball season. Tom Kakert and Kyle Huesmann discuss Iowa's controversial loss on Thursday to Illinois. Kyle was in Omaha and was actually the pool reporter who spoke to the Big Ten head umpire about the interference call that essentially ended the Hawkeye comeback in the tenth inning and the Iowa baseball season. We look back at the missed opportunities in the last two games of the season and go in-depth on the season, which is filled with what if's all over the place. We discuss the season and how the pitching, particularly the bullpen, struggled a good portion of the season and how the team gave up too many walks. Then we look at the hitters and how two key injuries late were essentially a final blow to the season. Finally, we look ahead to next season, at least as much as we can. Brody Brecht is moving on, but beyond that a whole lot of question marks that we explore. We wrap up talking about Payton Sandfort, who met with the media earlier on Thursday following a workout at Golden State. With less than a week until he has to make a decision, what did Sandfort have to say about his workouts, his performance at the NBA Combine, and when he might make his decision about the future.
It's an annual tradition for us on the podcast this time of year. We are joined by former Hawkeye football standout Jake Gervase, who is holding his fourth annual Rally for Reid Football Camp coming up on June 21st. You can learn more about the camp here at the link: https://www.rallyforreid.org/ It also includes a cheer camp for girls on the same day. Gervase discusses how he became friend with Reid while in college and the impact he had on his life. We also talk about his star studded list of former Hawkeyes serving as coaches for the event. We also catch up with Gervase about his potentially last football game, which was for Minnesota where he was signed on Thursday for a preseason game and then played over 90 snaps with basically no training camp. We talk about his time with the Rams and the surprising retirement of Aaron Donald and how good he was as a player. Finally we wrap up discussing Phil Parker winning the Broyles Award and how great of a coach he is for defensive backs at Iowa.
It's a rare solo Hawkeye Report Podcast. Tom Kakert flying solo to discuss the latest news in the world of Iowa athletics. More on that event, hopefully next week. Now the news of the week. We do a little housekeeping getting everyone caught up on what turned out to be a very busy and eventful week in Hawkeye sports. We first discuss the start for Caitlin Clark in the WNBA. She's being guarded closely and tighter than any player in the league. What should be take away from the start she has had and is there glimpses of progress? Then we stick with Iowa women's hoops and talk about hte Jan Jensen hire. What did she have to say about recruiting? What about hiring an assistant coach to replace herself on the staff? They will be on the road this weekend, how was that addressed? And after talking to Iowa AD Beth Goetz, how were they able to keep this massive news under wraps for a few days? We move on to Iowa men's hoops and the signing of Manhattan transfer Seydou Traore. What is Iowa getting in Traore and how did he perform against high major foes? How does this impact the Iowa frontcourt this season? We also look at how Payton Sandfort performed at the NBA Combine? Is he expected to return for one more season? When does he have to decide? Finally we discuss the Iowa football team adding a wide receiver, who happens to have been the roomate of new Hawkeye QB Brendan Sullivan.
EMERGENCY PODCAST!!! Massive news for the Iowa women's basketball program. Lisa Bluder has announced her retirement. That's huge news, but Iowa also announced that associate head coach Jan Jensen will be taking over as the new head coach. Tom Kakert and Kyle Huesmann dive into all of this. We start with Lisa Bluder announcing her retirement and try to put her career in perspective. From her humble roots coaching at St. Ambrose to 24 seasons leading the Iowa program, Bluder did it by building a great culture at every stop. We discuss her legacy and how she was able to take the program to a level no one thought was possible going to back to back national title games. We also talk about how it is fitting that Bluder and Caitlin Clark end their Iowa careers together. Next we look at the immediate hiring of Jan Jensen. It should have been a surprise, but we talk about the quick decison and the impact that decision will have on the Iowa program moving forward. What could be some of the assistant coach options for Jensen as she looks to complete her staff? What about the recruiting impact? Jensen led the recruitment of nearly every prospect, but what will their reactions be? We also do a few minutes on Iowa baseball heading into post season play next week in the Big Ten Tournament and what they may do with their rotation.

We discuss Cooper starting to come to Iowa camps when he was in fourth grade and how he eventually earned the full attention of Fran McCaffery, who offered him a scholarship before his ninth grade year. He has plenty of stories about Hayden Fry, Lisa Bluder at St. Ambrose and much more. Plus we tell some other fun media stories as Dan was responsible for Tom Kakert and Matt Randazzo meeting each other. After we visit with "The Wildman" we move on to discuss the latest edition to the Iowa football team, quarterback Brendan Sullivan. What are our thoughts on the Hawkeyes adding a quarterback? Do we think the Hawkeyes will add another quarterback? What other positions might also see an addition? WR? Defensive tackle? Then we discuss the Indiana Fever games being added to the schedule at WQAD in the Quad Cities and WOI in Des Moines.
Even though it's technically the off-season, there's always plenty going on in the world of Iowa football and basketball. Tom Kakert and Matt Randazzo jump on the podcast this week to discuss all the latest Hawkeye news. We start with a look at the quarterback situation in Iowa City. Deacon Hill hit the portal last week. Tommy Poholsky joined him on Monday. That leaves the Hawkeyes with just three quarterbacks on the roster heading into the summer. Should Iowa fans panic? Nope. We discuss why Iowa has already been looking to the transfer portal this spring. We also look at why it's not as crowded in the transfer portal so far this spring and why the Hawkeyes will eventually find someone. Also, Iowa is hunting for a wide receiver in the portal. We discuss their main target and look at other potential wide receivers in the portal if they were to miss on their #1 choice. Finally, we look at the scholarship situation for the Hawkeye football team and as of Monday, they are still over the limit. Then we move on to the NFL Draft and discuss Cooper DeJean going to the Eagles and his surprise drop out of the first round. Tory Taylor going to the Bears and why that's a great fit. Erick All going higher than expected to the Bengals and finally Logan Lee going to his favorite team, the Steelers. After that we look ahead to the NFL Draft next year. Could it be a record setting one for from an Iowa perspective with potentially seven players being drafted by NFL teams a true junior who could be among them. Could Luke Lachey end up being a first round pick? Finally we wrap up talking Iowa basketball and a portal visitor this past week in Matt Cross. Where do the Hawkeyes stand with him and who is the competition?
We take a little bit of a break from Hawkeye news to turn our attention to a very special cause that we love to support each and every year. It's the Chuck Long Charity Auction to help support the Children's Therapy of the Quad Cities. We are joined by our good friend Chuck Long and the President and CEO of the Children's Therapy Center of the Quad Cities, Angie Peterson, to discuss the upcoming event and how by just registering to bid will put you in a drawing for free gifts, even if you don't post a winning bid. We talk about history of the program, which is celebrating 75 years this year, and we discuss how Long got involved in the event. Then we discuss the bidding beginning on May 10th and wrapping up on May 18th and how you can get involved. How about some great Hawkeye items that will be up for bid, including a signed helmet from Cooper DeJean, a signed basketball by Caitlin Clark, Kate Martin, and Gabbie Marshall, a 10 year bottle of Pappy Van Winkle, life size cutout of Caitlin Clark, Taylor Swift signed album, and so much more.
It's a jam packed Hawkeye Report podcast to start the week as we wrap up spring football and talk a whole lot about the transfer portal for the Iowa women's basketball team, men's squad, and some football portal talk is picking up. First we start with the biggest news this past week the additon of Lucy Olsen to the Iowa women's basketball team. Iowa needed a point guard and scoring and they got that in Olsen. Kyle Huesmann and Tom Kakert dive into what it means for the Hawkeyes, why she picked Iowa, and the impact it has on the team next season. Does this making Iowa a Top 25 team next season even without Caitlin Clark? Then we dive into Iowa men's basketball and their addition of Drew Thelwell. They needed a veteran point guard and found it. How did the success of Caitlin Clark help with Iowa recruiting Thelwell? What will he bring to the table next season and will he split time with Brock Harding? Fran McCaffery isn't done in the portal. We look at potential big men targets in the portal. We move on to football and the portal. Jacob Bostick left suddenly, which was a surprise to the Iowa coaches. But, they have a potential wide receiver target visiting Tuesday. We look at that player as a prospect. We also discuss if Iowa will be in the market for a quarterback this spring and why they probably need to. Are there other positions they need to look at in the portal and how are they going to get down to 85 scholarship players by August? We finally talk some football and what we saw at the spring game on Saturday. What did we think of Tim Lester's offense? Who were some of the standout players at the practice? How are we feeling about Iowa heading into the summer months? Finally we wrap up talking Iowa baseball. The Hawkeyes swept Rutgers to move to 9-6 in conference play. Have they turned the corner from a pitching perspective? What do we make of the strong start on Sunday from Brody Brecht?
It's our 600th episode of the podcast and that means we have to get a big time guest. We are joined by the CEO of the Iowa Swarm, Brad Heinrichs and we have a wide ranging conversation on the transfer portal for the Iowa Hawkeyes in football and both men's and women's basketball. First we open with the portal being open in all three sports right now and how crazy it is for him during this time of year. We open our specific conversations by talking football and the surprise news of a player leaving the program on Tuesday and the scholarship situation for the Hawkeyes. What positions might they target in the portal this month? How could the Iowa Swarm help solve the football scholarship situation? Then we talk men's and women's basketball and the portal. What are the positions that both programs are targeting? What do we think of the numbers that are getting tossed around for players like Tony Perkins and how far off are they from the reality? Where do things stand for Lisa Bluder's club and when might they be adding a point guard to her roster? Finally we engage in a long discussion about the Iowa Swarm and the wish list for their program and what they need financially. We also dive into what college athletics might look like in the relatively near future? Will students become employees? A salary cap for college football in the future? It's an interesting discussion .
It's a jam packed edition of the Hawkeye Report Podcast covering a whole lot of topics. Tom Kakert and Matt Randazzo discuss Iowa spring football. We have met with several of the players on offense and got a look at the Hawkeyes practice on Thursday. What did we learn? Why are so many players on the offensive side of the ball energized by the offense? We discuss some of the players who have impressed this spring and are any of them surprises?. We also look at some of the mechanics of the Tim Lester offense and why it is receiver and tight end friendly and if they are using some RPO this spring. Then we go portalling and discuss how it might impact the Iowa football program. The Hawkeyes are five over the limit. How do they get down to 85? What about Iowa potentially adding a quarterback to the fold this spring? Could it happen and why it won't be the rumored player from Ohio State. Next up it's Iowa men's and women's basketball hunting for help in the transfer portal. Fran McCaffery has a couple of visits set up for guards. We look at the targets and Iowa's chances with them and three big men that the Hawkeyes could be looking to land. Also, we discuss Fran McCaffery saying Tony Perkins could be getting 500K in NIL? Then we wrap up with women's hoops and their portal targets. Can they land a point guard?

We look back at the game, beginning with the tremendous start for the Hawkeyes, led by a blazing first quarter from Caitlin Clark. We discuss the Gamecocks depth and how that was so impactful in the game as they outscored Iowa 37-0 in the game. We also talk about how the Hawkeyes continued to battle in the third quarterback before South Carolina slowly pulled away for the win. We look back at this historic run the last two years by the Iowa women's basketball team and discuss the impact that they have had not only on the people in the state of Iowa, but around the country. Then we dive into the future of the program. What does the Iowa women's basketball team look like next year with the returning players and new players? Also, the hottest question right now is what will go into the transfer portal looking to add? Do they have a point guard already on their radar? We also talk about Iowa men's basketball and where things stand for them in the transfer portal.
The Iowa women's basketball team is off to the National Title game for the second straight year. That means there's plenty for Tom Kakert and Kyle Huesmann to discuss when it comes to Caitlin Clark and the Hawkeyes. We open the podcast discuss the massive rating that the Iowa vs. UConn game pulled off on Friday night. What do with think of the viewership numbers and what could the title game against South Carolina bring on Sunday afternoon? Then we look back at the win over UConn. What were the keys to the Iowa win and how did they change the game in the second half. We also go in-depth about the "controversial" call late in the game where UConn was called for an offensive foul. It was the right call, but some object to the fact that it was made in the final seconds. Next we move on to previewing the game against South Carolina. It's a revenge game for Dawn Staley and the Gamecocks will that provide them with motivation. What will the keys be in this game for the Iowa women if they are going to pull off the upset of South Carolina? Does it include Clark having another massive game against them?
For the second straight year, the Iowa women's basketball team will be playing in a Final Four game with a chance to advance to the NCAA Title game on Sunday afternoon in Cleveland. Tom Kakert and Kyle Huesmann take a detailed look at the match-up for the Hawkeyes against a talented, but not deep team from UCONN. The headline battle will be between stars Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers from UCONN, but the real interesting battle might be in the post because the Huskies are not deep. We take a look at some of the key stats to watch this game and why Iowa might come out and continue to try and play with a high level of pace like they did against LSU on Monday night. Then we give our predictions for the game and the path to victory for the Hawkeyes. Will rebounding be a key in this game? Will three point shooting determine the outcome? We dive into it all.

We have former Iowa basketball player Nicholas Baer on the pod to talk men's and women's basketball on the podcast. We open the podcast talking Iowa women's basketball with the news that Caitlin Clark will be wrapping up her college career with the Hawkeyes and head to the WNBA at the end of the season. Was this the right decision? What it a surprise? We get Baer's thoughts on her playing career and the impact that she has made on the program and all of women's college basketball. Then we turn our attention to the Iowa men's basketball team as they make a late push for a spot in the NCAA Tournament. We get Baer's opinions on what he has seen from this Hawkeye team and how they have grown to play their best basketball late in the season. We also discuss the play of freshman Brock Harding and Owen Freeman and the career of Patrick McCaffery. Finally we wrap up talking about the changes to the NCAA structure, specifically wtih name, image, and likeness, which was something that Baer and Jordan Bohannon were vocal about during their careers at Iowa. What does he think about all of the changes and where might things be headed?
It's another jam packed Hawkeye Report Podcast. We are joined by Kyle Huesmann and we open the show with an extended discussion on Iowa women's basketball. Caitlin Clark with a triple double and the Hawkeyes have four players in double figures in a comfortable win over Illinois. How important was it to get more balanced scoring? What about Lisa Bluder's comments about her bigs? We then move over to discuss the Iowa men's basketball team and their loss at Illinois. The Hawkeyes were right there and then let it slip away late on the road. What did we learn about the Iowa team and do they need continued performances like this from Josh Dix? We also dove into the NCAA Tournament chances for the Hawkeyes, who are now moving up the charts in the final weeks. What type of finish gets them into the NCAA Tournament? Then we wrap up talking about a tough weekend for Iowa baseball. The starting pitching was good. The hitting was good, but the bullpen work was not great. It is time to panic for the Iowa baseball team? What can be done in the short term to fix the bullpen? How important is the series this weekend at Ole Miss? We also drop in a short conversation on court storming and if the NCAA is officially just about done as an organization?
The Hawkeyes and the Fighting Illini will tangle on the basketball court twice this weekend. With that in mind we had to bring on our good friend Kedric Prince on the podcast this week to talk about it. As usual, when we have Kedric on with us, the show goes off the rails early and often in the 30 minutes that went on the podcast. We start with the men's side of the equation, which takes place on Saturday. We argue about the Illini fans complaining about officiating in the Big Ten after losses and what that defeat at Penn State means for the game on Saturday and if Iowa is in trouble because of it. We also discuss why we expect that Saturday's game will be high scoring because both teams struggle on defense. Then things get controversial with Kedric discussing what he likes and doesn't like about Caitlin Clark's game and why the Fighting Illini women's team has struggled this season and what to expect on Sunday.
We have a jam packed podcast this week. Tom Kakert and Kyle Huesmann open the show discussing the Iowa Basketball team suddenly picking up their two biggest wins of the season. That includes a win at Michigan State. We look back at the victory over the Spartans on Tuesday night and how Iowa was able to pull the upset. Iowa is now potentially seeing a shot at the NCAA Tournament in the distance. We dive into the Hawkeyes resume after the wins over Wisconsin and Michigan State. How does it stack up when compared to other potential programs being mentioned as being on the bubble? Then we discuss the Iowa women's basketball team hitting the road for a huge game on Thursday night at Indiana. Kyle previews this massive game that Iowa will likely need to keep their hopes of a Big Ten title alive. How does Iowa match up with the Hoosiers? We also look at the remaining games for Iowa and their competition for the title, Ohio State. Finally we wrap up discussing Iowa baseball. We look back at the three game series and the win on Tuesday over Loras. What have we learned so far about the Hawkeye baseball team? We also dive into a massive series in Jacksonville this weekend where Iowa will face Auburn, nationally ranked Virginia, and Wichita State.
It was a historic night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena and that means we had to do a podcast to talk about it. The history was made by All American Caitlin Clark, who not only scored eight quick points to become the all-time leading scorer in NCAA women's basketball history, but she also set a program record by finishing with 49 points. Tom Kakert and Kyle Huesmann were at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Thursday evening to discuss the incredible performance from the All American guard and the post game celebration that brought out emotions from Clark and her family. Then we wrap up the podcast with a quick preview of the opening weekend for the Iowa baseball team and what we are excited to watch from the Hawkeyes squad, who is favored to win the Big Ten this season.
The Hawkeye Report Podcast is basketball heavy on a Wednesday night. First, Tom Kakert and Matt Randazzo look back at Iowa's loss on the road to Maryland. The Hawkeyes built an early lead and held it until the middle of the second half before seeing their offense go sideways. What did we see in the second half that was cause for concern? What about the disparity in foul shooting in the second half? Was that a factor in the outcome? Is Iowa basically down to playing six players most of the minutes and a few random minutes for the rest of the bench? Finally we discuss the upcoming schedule and if Iowa could make it into the field for the NIT this year. Then we talk about a couple of local Quad City prep players, including one that visited Iowa City on Sunday and a freshman hoops players that fans will want to keep tabs on in the future. We then move on to discussing Caitlin Clark and the history that she will make on Thursday night in Iowa City when she becomes the all-time leading scorer in women's college basketball. What did Clark say on Wednesday and why is she able to be so relaxed about this accomplishment? Will Lisa Bluder call a timeout once Clark scores her eighth point against Michigan? Finally we discuss Jon Budmayr being named Iowa's wide receivers coach. The reaction has been mixed at best, but should it be?
It's a special edition of the podcast. We preview the most anticipated season of Iowa baseball in decades. The Hawkeyes are nationally ranked with one of the top starting rotations in all of college baseball and we tap into the knowledge of our baseball beat writer Kyle Huesmann and John Evans, who is on the call for the Iowa baseball radio broadcasts. We start with the the pitching staff, led by the potential All American Brody Brecht and including Marcus Morgan. We discuss the entire staff and who might be helping out in the back end to close out games. Then we discuss the situation at catcher with the starter out to begin the season. After that we go around a very strong group of infielders. How good can that group be and are they one of the best fielding groups in the conference? After that we take a look at the outfield group and how there are some stars that are emerging in those three spots. Finally, we look at the schedule, which is pretty challenging, especially in the non-conference slate of games and then wrap up with how this team and Rick Heller are handling the massive expectations heading into this season.
Kirk Ferentz and the Iowa football program has hired Tim Lester to lead the Hawkeye offense in 2024. We had our first chance to talk to Ferentz since the hire and meet Lester for the first time and ask him plenty of question. We review what happened at the Tuesday press conference with our good friend from the Des Moines Register, Chad Leistikow. We dive deep into what Ferentz had to say on Tuesday and how it was somewhat different than the interview he gave Gary Dolphin late last week. How did that improve how Iowa fans are feeling about the hire of Lester. We also look at what Lester had to say in his time at the podium. What it was important that he said he would be in the press box calling plays and what he said about the offense he plans to put together this fall in Iowa City. Finally, we also discuss the news late today that Special Teams Coordinator Levar Woods interviewed with the Tampa Bay Bucs about their open special teams coaching position. What could it mean that he took that step?
The news that Iowa has a new offensive coordinator went official on Wednesday. Tom Kakert and Matt Randazzo discuss the continued reaction to the hiring of Tim Lester. Why has it been mixed from Iowa fans and what should Hawkeye followers look to hear from the new coordinator and Kirk Ferentz when they meet with the media next week? What are two important things that Lester needs to accomplish this spring should Iowa hit the portal for a quarterback this spring? Then we discuss the vacant wide receiver coaching position and if there is a frontrunner for that job. After that we turn our attention to the Iowa basketball team. They had a shot to pull off a come from behind win at Indiana and let it get away late. Why is Iowa struggling to close out tight games? What needs to change on that front and why has Ben Krikke been struggling of late? We also dive into Iowa's resume this year and project their record moving forward. What would it take to get to the NCAA Tournament this season?
The Iowa Hawkeyes have hired a new offensive coordinator and as promised that means we are doing an emergency podcast! Tom Kakert and Blair Sanderson for 30 minutes breaking down all the angles of this very interesting and up and down hiring of a new offenisve coordinator to guide the Iowa offense in 2024. We look at the background of Tim Lester and what he brings to the table from that perspective. We dive into the stats that he posted as a coordinator back when he was guiding the offense at Syracuse and then eventually becoming the head coach at his alma mater, Western Michigan. What do we think of his tenure leading the Broncos program and why he was dismissed after the 2022 season. What were the offensive numbers they put up and what kind of an offense did Lester tend to run during his time as a head coach? Will we see more RPO looks from the Hawkeyes and is he a fan of complementary football, like KIrk Ferentz?
A lot of ground to cover on the podcast today. We are joined by Kyle Huesmann and start this week with the Iowa women's basketball team dropping a game on Sunday at Ohio State. Kyle gives his thoughts on the loss to the Buckeyes and what went wrong for Iowa and we discuss the play of Caitlin Clark in the contest. We also talk about how security needs to be better for the opposing teams in those situations. Next we move on to Kadyn Proctor committing to the Iowa football program. What he said about his commitment to the Hawkeyes and what it might be like for the Hawkeye offensive line this fall. We also discuss why Iowa didn't tamper with Proctor. Then we update the on-going search for an offensive coordinator and when Iowa might have one in place with interviews taking place this week. Finally we wrap up talking Iowa basketball and the loss to Purdue and finally Kyle previews the Iowa baseball season that is the most hyped in the Rick Heller era.
It's somewhat of an emergency podcast today with news that Iowa has officially hired Beth Goetz as their athletic director. Tom Kakert and Matt Randazzo discuss the hiring, which shouldn't have come as a surprise. We talk about the job she has done since she arrived in Iowa City and how she has given a warm embrace to the Iowa Swarm Collective and also how she made a decision on Iowa's offensive coordinator. We also talk about how she is well prepared and equiped for the changing landscape of college athletics. Then we talk about the hiring that hasn't happened and that's the Iowa offensive coordinator position. Where do things stand and could this search be headed into the next week, which would be beyond the expecation that Kirk Ferentz had about a month ago. Are there any new candidates that are emerging? Next we discuss Kadyn Proctor, who officially entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on Thursday. What are Iowa's chances to land the five star offensive tackle? What would Iowa's offensive line look like if they landed Proctor? We also discuss how Proctor's arrivial in the transfer portal led to a massive spike in donations to the Iowa Swarm Collective. Finally we wrap up talking about Fran McCaffery and his record setting victory and how this Iowa men's team is improving witha huge test coming up on Saturday against Purdue. Then we talk Iowa women's hoops and their huge contest on Sunday at Ohio State.
A very interesting podcast this week. Our good friend Tory Brecht joins us to talk about his recent columns on Iowa basketball and the lack of fan support. What are the root causes to the lack of support and what can be done to fix it? We have a lot of different theories. We dive into what we like about this Iowa basketball team and some of the very positive comments from Stephen Bardo this week about how connected this team is on the court in their play. We also discuss what record it would take for the Hawkeyes to reach the NCAA Tournament? Then we turn our attention to the never ending search for a new offensive coordinator. After not landing on Paul Chryst or Joe Philbin, who might Kirk Ferentz be looking at? Could he be eyeing an NFL coach? Does Kirk's past hires tell us the type of person that he will likely end up hiring? Finally we discuss the football coaching news of the day, rewarding the great Phil Parker and keeping a rising star in Seth Wallace on the coaching staff.
Plenty to discuss on this edition of the Hawkeye Report Podcast. Matt Randazzo is back and we open the podcast discussing several Iowa football players deciding that they will use their Covid year and return for one more season. What's the impact of those decisions and the return of five starters on the Iowa defense? Then we talk about the scholarship situation. The Hawkeyes will eventually have to get to 85 scholarship players and they currently sit at 90. How will they get down to that number and when do they have to be there? Also, do the Hawkeyes need to dive into the transfer portal this spring and land a quarterback? Any other positions? Next we discuss the search for an offensive coordinator. What's the latest the search and is it close to coming to a conclusion? Is Paul Chryst the frontrunner? Could Joe Philbin still be in the mix? Is there a mystery candidate? Finally we wrap up talking Iowa men's and women's basketball. What have we seen from Owen Freeman and how impressive has he been? How important are the next two games for Iowa? We also talk about the Hawkeye women's hoops team and the amazing performances of Caitlin Clark.

We give you the latest on quarterback target Ty Thompson and if he's still visiting Iowa this weekend. Next up with update the search for an offensive coordinator. Finally we discuss the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl and discuss the play of Deacon Hill and what we saw from Marco Lainez. We also talk about the great Caitlin Clark and her game winner against Michigan State and we talk Iowa men's basketball as well.
We had to squeeze one more podcast in before the holidays. There was a good reason because Brock Harding had his first career double-double for the Hawkeyes, so Matt Randazzo needed to take a victory lap. We talks about Harding's big night, but also Ben Krikke and Payton Sandfort having a double-double and Tony Perkins catching fire. But, this leads to a larger discussion of why Iowa fans are not coming out to watch this basketball team? What, if anything, can be done to get more fans to come out to games? Then we wrap up signing day coverage with a look at the recruiting class just inked by the Hawkeyes. How do they rank nationally and what were some of the thoughts about it shared by Kirk Ferentz and Tyler Barnes. What has Barnes been focused on? Also retaining six Iowa players for next season. We discuss the chances of that happening. Finally we wrap up picking the Big Ten bowl games this year, including the Iowa/Tennessee game.
It's a jam packed edition of the podcast! We open the show discussing Kirk Ferentz and his presser today discussing the search for an offensive coordinator. What did he say about the search? We also discuss the play of Caitlin Clark if she is actually bored by playing at the college level, as was suggested this week. Plus we talk about the Indiana Fever getting the #1 pick and if that impacts Clark heading to the WNBA. THen we talk Iowa men's basketball after what was an extremely rough week for the Hawkeyes, losing three games in a row by double figures. Is it time to panic about Iowa basketball this season? What changes could be made to the starting lineup? Why has Iowa struggled in these three game sets in early December since they started this up in 2017? Finally we wrap up discussing a few notes on Iowa football. A tip of the cap to Tory Taylor and Cooper DeJean, along with recognizing the season by Jay Higgins and Sebastian Castro.
