It's time to talk College Football and the Huskies got a much-needed win over Illinois at home on Saturday. They're on bye next weekend and if they can win out, it's not out of the question to think that they could end up in the CFP. Meanwhile, Jedd Fisch bristled at the idea that he is looking elsewhere with the big program head coaching opportunities that are out there. He's earned the reputation, but we like seeing him scoff at the idea of leaving Montlake. Once again, college football is evolving and now coaches are getting fired and paid out by big donors when they aren't achieving the goal. How long can this last? :30- JACKSON FELTS joins the show ahead of tonight's Sounders game. It's round 1 of the MLS playoffs and the Sounders have a tough matchup with Minnesota in the best of three. :45- Here comes Halloween! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Headlines and Thursdays with SOFTY Softy joins our group therapy sessions to give his thoughts on the Mariners falling short of the World Series now that he's had some time to process. The Huskies couldn't get it done in Ann Arbor last weekend, but they're back home Saturday and hosting Illinois, so we discuss. :30- We continue with our breaking news from the NBA as the FBI is holding a press conference and more information is coming out about just how big this gambling scandal is. The NBA can't take this lightly, they have the opportunity to clean things up and remove any doubt that their players are rigging prop bets, but they have to lay the hammer. :35- Let's play some fact or fiction! :45- Now that the Mariners season is over, we start to look at the offseason; does Geno Suarez have a future on this team? Ohio State went to Champaign and posted a comfortable win that never really seemed in doubt, although a conservative game plan on the offensive side and some OSU red zone struggles allowed the Fighting Illini to tighten things up early in the third quarter. The Buckeyes pulled away, worked on some things, and even got some backups into the game on the road, handling the No. 17 team in the nation, 34-16.We discussed all the key moments, plays, and players in the game, checked on our picks to click to see how our chosen Buckeyes performed at Illinois, and compared notes on our score predictions, which were both extremely close to the actual final score. After our Ohio State-Illinois rewind, we discussed Penn State firing James Franklin after a second consecutive shocking loss — this time at home to Northwestern at Homecoming. The Nittany Lions also lost quarterback Drew Allar for the season, so it has been a rough few weeks for a Penn State team that is now 0-3 in Big Ten play. Following our Franklin discussion, we looked around the rest of the Big Ten to see how other teams made out in Week 7. It wasn't just a bad week for Penn State, as Wisconsin got throttled at home by Iowa, Michigan State got blasted at home by UCLA, and Michigan was mauled at USC. Nebraska won a tight battle over Maryland, and Minnesota squeaked past Purdue. Indiana got the marquee win at Oregon. Oh, and the Huskies beat Rutgers on Friday. We also looked ahead to the matchups coming up this weekend. Washington at Michigan might be the best game to keep an eye on, while USC has a huge non-conference rivalry game at Notre Dame. Also, we think Purdue might win. Finally, we previewed the Ohio State game at Wisconsin. Camp Randall is always a great atmosphere, but it doesn't seem like the Badgers are likely to hang around in this one without some unbelievable defensive play, a few turnovers, and maybe even a big special teams play or two. But that doesn't mean the Buckeyes can take Wisconsin lightly. Nothing is certain in this sport. Ohio State was favored by 14.5 points at Illinois on Saturday and came away with a 34-16 victory. And that was with the No. 1 Buckeyes (6-0, 3-0 Big Ten) taking their foot off the gas against the No. 17 Fighting Illini (5-2, 2-2). Our postgame podcast, What We Learned, has reactions to today's game and what it means moving forward for Ohio State. The No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes handled their business on the road against No. 17 Illinois on Saturday afternoon, beating the Fighting Illini, 34-16. The result was a solid win, but head coach Ryan Day still walked away from the game with areas for the Buckeyes to improve.Tony Gerdeman of BuckeyeHuddle.com joins host Tom Orr to discuss four things they learned from the game.

Minnesota came out swinging, but once Ohio State's defense locked things down in the red zone, the rest of Saturday night belonged to the Buckeyes. The defense was stifling; Carnell Tate and Julian Sayin went off; and Jeremiah Smith, Max Klare, and Bo Jackson all had solid games. Ryan Day was also able to get plenty of depth players a few snaps in the fourth quarter. We look back at the big plays, moments, and players from Ohio State's 42-3 win over the Golden Gophers, check on our picks to click to see how they performed, and review our game predictions from last week to see how close we were. (We were pretty close!)After our Ohio State-Minnesota rewind, we looked around the rest of the Big Ten to see how other teams made out in Week 6. Penn State had a bad weekend and Washington nearly did as well, having to come a long way back in the fourth quarter to win at Maryland. Illinois won big, Wisconsin put up a fight for a while but simply couldn't score points in Ann Arbor. Michigan State couldn't get stops in Lincoln, and the Spartans had a Sparty No! moment. We also looked ahead to the matchups this weekend, and aside from Ohio State's trip to Champaign, we'll be keeping an eye on Oregon-Indiana.Finally, we previewed the Illibuck game coming up Saturday at noon. The Fighting Illini are a formidable opponent, especially at home, and they have an offense that can test Matt Patricia's defense. We gave you the Illini players to watch and discussed the matchup. We also selected our picks to click for the Buckeyes at Illinois and made our predictions for what the final score will be after a hard-fought game at Memorial Stadium this weekend. We would love to hear from you, so please send us an email at silverbulletspod@gmail.com. Any questions directed toward us will be answered on our next show.Be sure to subscribe, rate, review, share, and follow the show over on Twitter at @SilvrBulletsPod.As always, thanks for listening!0:20 - The Buckeyes returned home to face a scrappy Golden Gophers squad. Minnesota came out of the gate hot but couldn't sustain anything after its opening drive. The Buckeyes cruised.24:34 - UCLA stunned Penn State with an offensive explosion against Jim Knowles' defense. Michigan, Illinois, Washington, Nebraska, and Northwestern (the latter in non-conference play) joined the Buckeyes as winners over the weekend.52:28 - We look ahead to Luke Altmyer and his command of a versatile Illinois offense, as the Buckeye secondary will be put to the test on the road Saturday.

On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together talking about the latest poor performance for the Trojans on the road, falling to the Fighting Illini 34-32 Saturday morning in Champaign. USC didn't look like it handled the multiple time zone travel and early kickoff very well, despite the team heading out to the Midwest a day early. Coach Hyde gives his thoughts on what went wrong for the Trojans on this Big Ten road trip, with an offense that looked like it could do almost anything it wanted and a defense that looked confused and failed to pick up stops time and time again. USC had no business being in the game but somehow mounted a crazy 14-point comeback late, taking a 32-31 lead with under two minutes left in the game. Unfortunately the defense wasn't able to step up and the Trojans lead was short lived with Illinois kicking the game winning field goal as time expired. On the offensive side, Coach Hyde talks about how there shouldn't be any excuses for injuries, football is a physical game and guys get hurt. He wants to see a better rhythm with the offense and let quarterback Jayden Maiava run the football more. On the defensive side Coach Hyde thinks Lincoln Riley was critical of the defense for the first time. A couple of years ago Riley said he would be move involved with the defense but from what we can see, he hasn't been. He is also seeing a lot of confusion when the ball is snapped and guys don't look like they know what they should be doing. It doesn't appear that this group is playing as a cohesive unit and it's hard to win football games without a good defense. Coach Harvey Hyde has been part of the Peristyle Podcast since 2008 and in the USC football world he is an expert on X's and O's, personnel, coaching philosophies and recruiting. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") and intern Riley Sager are back in studio breaking down another disappointing road performance by this USC football team, falling to Illinois 34-32 in Champaign. The offense turned it over twice, the defense couldn't get a stop and untimely penalties, including one that wiped out a 75-yard touchdown, continue to plague the Trojans who fall to 4-1 on the season, 1-1 in the Big Ten, and out of the AP top-25. Despite all of the sloppy play and miscues, USC miraculously took a 32-31 lead with 1:55 left in the game, the first and only lead for the guys in Cardinal and Gold. Then the Fighting Illini did what they had done all game, moved the ball with ease against the Trojan defense, setting up the game winning 41-yard field goal as time expired. Both Ryan and Connor were in Illinois to witness this debacle and give their thoughts on what went wrong, from Kamari Ramsey getting food poisoning, to center Kilian O'Connor going down with an injury, the defense giving up 503 yards and over 12 yards per pass attempt and everything in between.
