It was pictured long long ago in the MANNA of Moses. Now, we get the upgraded version. When this was first described, the response was:"Gimmie that always!" Twelfth Sunday After Pentecost, August 11, 2024 OUR THEME FOR TODAY—SPIRITUAL FOOD FOR THOSE FOCUSED ON THE EARTHLYThe best thing God gives us is his Son, the bread of life. First Reading: Exodus 16:15-31. In sending manna, a bread that stayed fresh for a short time, the LORD not only cared for Israel's physical well-being but also fortified trust that God would continue to provide.Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 10:1-5, 11-13. The Israelites had spiritual food in the wilderness. The pre-incarnate Christ was with them! Yet some cared more about physical blessings than spiritual ones.Gospel and Sermon Text: John 6:24-35. On the heels of eating their fill of loaves and fishes, the crowd tracked Jesus down on the other side of the Sea of Galilee looking for more of their needs to be met. Jesus tells them not to work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures for eternal life. Sarah Stenson teaches Kiri and Mason why the crowd is confused about what they have to do to receive eternal life when Jesus tells them very clearly that He is the one who gives it freely. Though we often hear, “I am the bread of life,” in church, Sarah explains what Jesus actually meant when He said this and what it means for Christians today. Have you ever found yourself in a state of fear rather than faith? In this message, Pastor Harrison dives into two miracle stories of Jesus to reveal who He is and what it means to follow Him. We are reminded that following Jesus doesn't mean that there is an absence of storm in our lives, but that even in the midst of it all, Jesus is with us and for us. Many times, we search for answers and fulfillment in the world, but our identity is found in Christ alone.
