Lantz sits down with Adam Tarnow — author of The Fog of Work, former CPA, former church staff member, and now a leadership development coach and workshop facilitator — for a conversation about the specific brand of stress that hits every leader the moment they get promoted: being held accountable for results they don't fully control.Adam walks through the "valley" his own boss drew for him decades ago — pressure from above, pressure from below, and the leader stuck in the middle — and how he spent years looking for a way out before a mentor named Randy Marshall showed him there isn't one. There's only a way through. That way through became "Control Your Controllables," a simple fill-in-the-blank operating system built on the dichotomy of control: I don't control ___, but I do control ___, so I will ___.The conversation moves from Disney World leadership lessons to raising teenage boys who mock (and absorb) their dad's one-liners, from "awkwardophobia" to why courage — not serenity — is the thing most leaders are actually short on. It's a conversation for anyone who feels like they climbed the ladder only to find themselves stuck, stressed, and quietly looking for a villain to blame.--"Your story doesn't have a villain, it's just got a valley.""There's no way out of the valley. But there's a way through.""I don't need more serenity. What I need is more courage.""I don't control ___, but I do control ___, so I will ___.""The mid-level leader is the backbone of the global economy — and they are hurting.""It's not that you've got the answers. It's that you've got the questions."--If you've ever climbed the ladder only to feel stuck, stressed, or quietly looking for someone to blame — this conversation is for you. Slow down, learn your story, and find someone to help you unpack it.For your leadership and calling → lantzhoward.com For your marriage → championhusband.comIf this conversation was encouraging to you, share it with the leader — or the middle manager — who came to mind while you were listening.Subscribe · Share · Leave a reviewPeace and courage on your leadership journey.

Lantz sits down with Steve Cuss — founder of Capable Life, pastor at heart, and author of Managing Leadership Anxiety — for a conversation about the invisible dynamics that quietly run every room, marriage, and organization: reactivity.Steve traces his own story from a scary, incompetent childhood through arrogant overconfidence to the catalytic moment that broke him open — becoming a 24-year-old hospital chaplain sitting with dying people. That season killed the pretense and became the seedbed for everything he now teaches leaders about family systems theory, the "well self," and why the most anxious person in the room is running the show whether anyone notices or not.Along the way: micro-habits that reset a reactive nervous system, four simple questions that reveal the most anxious person in any group, and a candid look at 29 years of marriage to his best friend, Lisa. Steve closes with a challenge every leader needs to hear: the best asset you have to offer God's kingdom is a well self.-"I'm always looking to trip over God's goodness. That's kind of my goal.""I don't trust leaders that don't have a limp.""Reactivity is contagious. Unlike trauma or grief, it spreads through a room.""When you're bigger than human, you've pushed out the room in your soul where you attend to God.""Bob's not automatically evil — you're just as complicit for not confronting him.""You're not going to work on your marriage. You're going to work on yourself.""The best asset you have to offer God's kingdom is a well self."--This work — paying attention to your own reactivity, becoming a noticer, and growing yourself up before you try to fix everyone else — is at the heart of what I do with the leaders and couples I serve. If this conversation stirred something in you, I'd love to help you take the next step:For your leadership and calling → lantzhoward.com For your marriage → championhusband.com
Lantz sits down with longtime friend Lyle Wells, president of Integris Leadership and a veteran executive coach who spends his days serving senior pastors, global nonprofit leaders, and CEOs. Lyle has been fired twice, coached college basketball, trained for ministry without the Greek and Hebrew, and been married to his wife Rhonda for nearly 37 years — and he brings all of it into a conversation about why leadership was never meant to be a marathon. The conversation moves from date nights and daily diversions to burnout, identity, and what it really means to hold your purpose tightly while holding your position loosely. Lyle unpacks the four roles he plays in every coaching relationship, why 80% of the leaders who call him are "stuck" rather than "struggling," and how uniqueness and eliteness can restore a leader's sense of aliveness. It's a conversation about rhythm — going out and coming in — and why ending well matters as much as starting well.Key Quotes"Life is a series of sprints, not marathons.""My tank is my responsibility. It's not my wife's job to fill it, and it's not my elders' job either.""Hold your purpose tightly. Choke the heck out of that thing. But hold your positions loosely.""We're really good at starting things. We're usually really bad at ending them — and ending well is just as important as starting well.""Struggling means we're wrestling. Stuck means hope is being lost.""Leadership is never meant to be harvested. It's only meant to be multiplied.""If it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you."--Coach Lantz Howard www.lantzhoward.comDownload Champion Husband Playbook: How to have More Peace, Passion, and Power in Your Marriage www.championhusband.com

In the business world, the ones who make it to the top are often high-achieving, ruthless, and confident. They're calculated risk-takers. In fact, when people try to take the strategies that bring them workplace success and apply them at home, they can end up harming their marriages. On the inside, high achievers often fear rejection and shy away from vulnerability—which can make it hard to achieve the close, loving relationships they desire. This was the experience of today's guest. Some stories are hard to tell… but important to share. In this episode, I sit down with Lantz Tucker's mom, Crystal, to talk about the life of her son and the love that continues to carry his legacy forward. The Lantz Tucker Memorial Fund was created because of one simple but powerful question Lantz asked: “Why not?”Why can't pet parents get help when they can't afford veterinary care? Why should an animal suffer because someone doesn't have enough money? Why should pet owners have to surrender their pets because they can't afford an expensive treatment? That question stayed with his mom—and today, because of that conversation she had with Lantz, this fund helps pet parents who just need a little help to save their animals.Lantz may no longer be with us, but his compassion continues to change lives—both human and animal. ❤️#LantzTuckerMemorialFund #HonorLantz #PetParents #Pets #VeterinaryCare #Kansascity #dog #CompassionForAnimals #Podcast #veterinary #mom #dogmom #griefhttps://www.lantztuckermemorialfund.org/https://www.facebook.com/LantzTuckermemorialfundhttps://youtu.be/kPS9z8HkSH4?si=R7utbP6pifPkcD6Qhttps://www.lantztuckermemorialfund.org/success-storieshttps://www.dea.gov/onepillhttps://www.pawsitivetailskc.org/

I sat down with Morgan Snyder, author of Becoming a King and founder of Become Good Soil. At 50, Morgan opens up about his liminal season: turning 50, launching his adult kids, empty-nesting with Cherri, stepping away from 26 years with John Eldredge at Wild at Heart, and choosing a biblical Jubilee year of intentional pause, grief, and unlearning. He gets raw about excavating his false self, naming his deepest fear, redeeming 25 years of marriage from broken beginnings, and shifting from building big platforms to quietly serving the thirsty few as a spiritual father in the second half of life. This episode is my invitation to you—especially men (and the women who love them)—who are ready to slow down, grieve what must die, let fear become a guide, integrate your shattered parts, and apprentice yourself to God's subversive, mustard-seed kingdom. Fewer people. Deeper relationships. Exponential impact over scale. If you're in midlife transition, wrestling with identity, or craving wholehearted leadership that flows from being rather than doing, press play. It works. Slow and steady brings forth the kingdom.--Brother,If you're ready to align your identity, marriage, and vocation so you can lead wholeheartedly—from a sound mind and a healthy soul—I'm here to walk with you.I help high-performers (entrepreneurs, CEOs, founders, senior leaders, sales executives, and mission-driven men) get honest about their story, untangle limiting beliefs, renew their mind with truth, and live with clarity, confidence, and purpose that flows into every area of life.No more performing from a false self. No more disconnected marriage or vocation that drains your soul. Just real, wholehearted leadership that honors God and serves others deeply.Ready to explore what this could look like for you?Start with my free Unlock Intimacy Challenge: 7 days for Christ-following entrepreneurs to rebuild connection with your wife.Or book a no-pressure discovery conversation to talk confidentially about your story. lantzhoward.com and click "Work with Lantz."I'm selective with who I take on—spots are limited because this work is deep, personal, and life-changing. Guests Erika Lantz and Elin Lantz Lesser join to discuss season 3 of their investigative podcast The Turning, which follows the journey of a young woman named Lindsay, a former member of a Christian group in Minnesota called River Road Fellowship. They talk about the background of the leader Victor Bernard, how Lindsay’s parents moved the family to the cult compound, and what it was like living there—with rapture drills that required the members to never venture far from the compound, a massive bonfire designed to destroy the members’ attachments to their pasts, and other forms of strict control. They discuss how Lindsay was selected as a teenager to be one of Victor’s ten “maidens,” a group of girls and women living next to his lodge who were subjected to coerced labor and eventually sexual exploitation in what Lindsay only later learned was meant to be a lifelong commitment, the escape plans she was making, and how glimpses of the outside world led her to finally leaving.
