By Amy Goodman & Denis Moynihan Democracy Now! turns 30 in February. Carried on over 1,500 stations around the globe, and with a growing audience of millions across multiple digital platforms, the program has become a leader in the burgeoning non-profit news space, as we collectively grapple with a multipronged crisis in journalism.
In this reflective year-end episode, I take listeners on a gentle pause to sit with the reality of the year they've just carried. It's not the polished, social-media version of the year, but an honest look at what women, especially in leadership and career spaces, have held—often invisibly. From emotional loads and endless mental tabs to the weight of responsibilities, self-doubt, and cultural change, this episode speaks directly to those feeling stretched and tired. What We Carried:The high expectations, emotional labor, unending mental lists, unclaimed responsibilities, and even self-doubt—all these made the year heavier than most realize. What It Cost Us:Rest, clarity, confidence, joy, boundaries, parts of our identity, and sometimes our own breathing space suffered under the weight of all that carrying.Compassion for Ourselves:Resonate Leadership Podcast Host reassures listeners: fatigue hasn't come from weakness, but from holding too much, for too long.Lessons Learned:This year revealed our limits, the importance of belonging, the exhaustion of masking, and the difference between performing strength and true strength. It taught us who supports us—and who only sees the results. What to Put Down:Before the new year, listeners are encouraged to shed burdens they don't need to carry: the pressure to always be available, the belief they must earn rest, invisible emotional labor, guilt for saying no, and the need for constant competence. What to Welcome:By putting some things down, we make space to pick up new boundaries, honest joy, real belonging, supportive communities, and permission to be unapologetically ourselves.Takeaways:Leadership is human work—messy, emotional, relational, systemic.Rest is not something to be earned; it's something we deserve.Putting down unnecessary loads makes space for renewal. The hard year does not define your worth or strength—your continued showing up does. Thanks for being part of Frustrated and Exhausted this year. Here's to the reset you need and deserve!Connect with Ruth:Instagram LinkedIn Website
After pushing himself to the brink trying to live up to the pace and standards Phil carried for decades, Jase walks away with a new appreciation for just how much his dad handled. The guys explore how Scripture reframes work and rest as part of God's design rather than opposites, especially in light of Jesus' resurrection. They close by reflecting on the difference between perishable and imperishable bodies, and why the hope of new creation gives meaning to both our limits now and what lies ahead. The First Sunday of Christmastide, The New Has Come, The Sanctuary Service, December 28, 2025
JULIE MANET, THE VALUE OF TRANSIENCE, AND THE AVANT-GARDE Colleague Sebastian Smee. Berthe Morisot's legacy was carried on by her daughter, Julie Manet, to whom Berthe wrote a tender deathbed letter expressing that Julie had provided her solely with happiness. Morisot's work exemplifies the concept of "transience value"—the idea, later articulated by Freud, that the fleeting nature of beauty makes it more precious. Her paintings of adolescents and domestic scenes celebrated the present moment precisely because it was always changing. While the next generation of the avant-garde, such as Van Gogh and Munch, reacted against Impressionism's lack of structure, they built directly upon its liberation of color. Although these newer artists sought more permanence, the Impressionist dedication to capturing fugitive effects proved to have lasting power, validating Morisot's vision of finding profound truth in the ephemeral. One week before the Tet Offensive of 1968, a small, unarmed Navy intelligence ship called the USS Pueblo was attacked and captured by North Korea. The seizure of the Pueblo became its own crisis running parallel to Tet, trapping 82 American sailors in a struggle for survival that lasted nearly a year. One of those sailors was 20-year-old Steven Woelk from Kansas. On our upcoming VBC livestream, Steven will join us to share his remarkable firsthand story, now told in full in his soon-to-be-released memoir, Pig Fat Soup: Surviving My Pueblo Prisoner of War Journey. When cannon rounds started ripping into the lightly armed spy ship, Woelk was below decks with three shipmates, frantically trying to burn classified material before it could be captured. The smoke gave them away. A North Korean round tore through their space, killing Woelk's friend and leaving Woelk himself gravely wounded. Because of those wounds, he became the last sailor to leave the Pueblo. Carried off the ship after Commander Lloyd Bucher surrendered to prevent further slaughter, Woelk then went ten full days without medical treatment. When surgery finally came, it was brutal. Shrapnel, bone fragments, and his testicles were removed without anesthesia. He still has no idea how he survived without infection. Woelk spent forty-four days in a North Korean hospital, which spared him some of the savage beatings his crewmates endured. But nothing shielded him from “hell week,” the torture that followed once the captors discovered the crew's defiant middle-finger gesture wasn't, in fact, a friendly Hawaiian greeting. “You pray you're strong enough to resist,” he later said, “but you never know until you face that reality.” There were long stretches of boredom, hunger, and fear, punctuated by sudden terror, never knowing whether the next moment would bring a beating, execution, or, by some miracle, release. Release finally came two days before Christmas 1968. For his wounds and captivity, Woelk received two Purple Hearts and the POW Medal. The Pueblo remains the only U.S. Navy vessel still held by a foreign nation, displayed by North Korea as a trophy and propaganda exhibit. Steven Woelk has spent much of his life ensuring that the Pueblo is not forgotten. His memoir, Pig Fat Soup, offers the most detailed and candid account he's ever shared—one that moves from the chaos of the attack to the freezing bunkrooms of the “Barn,” the POW camp where the crew endured nearly a year of captivity. Kim Harms never expected to hear the word "cancer" twice. After beating breast cancer with only a 5-6% chance of recurrence, she was devastated when it returned seven years later, this time more advanced and requiring intensive chemotherapy. Kim's story isn't just about surviving cancer; it's about discovering God's presence in the darkest valleys. During her second battle, whilst enduring 16 rounds of chemotherapy, her son Owen began mysteriously losing weight and strength, ultimately being diagnosed with ulcerative colitis after months of frightening uncertainty. Through these overlapping crises, Kim found her calling. She's written two books, Life Reconstructed and Carried Through Cancer, and co-ordinates a ministry that sends free mastectomy pillows worldwide. Her raw honesty about crying on her floor, making promises to God, watching friends fade away, and feeling the isolation of cancer will resonate with anyone facing overwhelming circumstances. Kim's story reminds us that we're not promised smooth sailing, but we are promised God's presence, and that makes all the difference. (Want to be a guest on Bleeding Daylight? Some days, family life feels more like chaos than connection, doesn’t it? There are dishes in the sink, sharp words we wish we could take back, kids who don’t always get along, and moments where we wonder, Is this really what a 'strong family' is supposed to look like? If you’ve ever felt that tension, this week’s episode of The Love Offering Podcast is especially for you. I’m talking with Jessica Smartt about her new book, Come On Home, and her message is such a relief: your family doesn’t have to be perfect to be strong. A strong family isn’t built on flawless behavior, matching outfits, or a constantly peaceful home. It’s formed in the ordinary, imperfect moments—apologies after arguments, prayers whispered in the hallway, small traditions that make your people feel seen and safe, and a steady love that says, “You belong here, no matter what.” If you’ve ever: Wished your home felt more like a haven than a battleground Wondered if it’s “too late” to change the culture of your family Carried guilt over what hasn’t gone the way you hoped Jessica’s words will encourage you. In our conversation, she shares: Thirteen foundational traits that help families grow strong in real life, not ideal life Honest stories from her own family and from other families with all kinds of backgrounds Practical ideas for building a connection between siblings and creating a home your kids want to come back to Hope for breaking unhealthy family patterns and offering your children a new legacy of faith and grace What I love most is Jessica’s reminder that God is at work in the middle of the mess. The disappointments, the conflicts, the things you wish you could redo—He can use all of it. Your faithfulness today, even in small ways, can ripple into future generations. Friend, it’s not too late. Not too late to start praying more intentionally for your family. Not too late to repair a strained relationship. Not too late to create rhythms that make your home gentle, welcoming, and full of grace. Your family doesn’t need you to be perfect—just present, prayerful, and willing to keep loving. I hope this episode feels like a warm, “me too,” and a gentle nudge to keep going. This week, I'm chatting with Karina Chiqui, whose first marathon story is layered with community, culture, and a whole lot of heart. Karina started running at 12 after getting cut from her middle school soccer team, which led her into a lifelong relationship with distance running and eventually a collegiate career she accidentally signed up for. After graduation she moved across the country, rebuilt her running community, and later found her way back to New York where she pitched a charity partnership that ultimately secured her spot in the NYC Marathon. Her journey to the start line was shaped by representation, fundraising creativity, and the people who showed up for her again and again. In this conversation, she walks through the highs, lows, ankle mishaps, and the emotional moments that carried her through all 26.2 miles. Karina's story is a reminder of how powerful it is to be surrounded by people who believe in you and how deeply running can connect us to our roots, our why, and each other. The Day I Carried the King by Julie VenablesAuthor, Julie Venables, has written a charming, touching, yet important book for children. The unlikely hero is a small donkey named Jasper, who became integral to the story of Jesus, the Messiah and His triumphal entry into Jerusalem only days before the crucifixion. Below is the author's personal note to children about this special book destined to become a classic."God has a special plan for Jasper, the donkey. As you read this wonderful story remember you, too, are special to Jesus. He knows your name. Finding out what God has for each one of us is the most exciting part of life's adventure. Jasper had things to learn so he would be ready for the day he carried the King! Even though Jasper felt small and insignificant, he came to realize that his life was unique. His early years were a preparation for the wonderful time when he would become useful to Jesus, the King of Kings. Jasper learns, among other things, that God looks at our hearts more than our outward appearance." - Julie VenablesAMAZONhttps://www.urlinkpublishing.com/http://www.bluefunkbroadcasting.com/root/twia/12425jvurl.mp3
In this episode of the Free Radical Podcast, we sit down with Kenneth (Harry) Oldmeadow—author, scholar, and lifelong explorer of the world's wisdom traditions. Carried to India as a baby and raised there through his first decade, Oldmeadow's early immersion in a tapestry of cultures and faiths helped shape a life devoted to understanding the world's spiritual inheritances. His later studies in history, politics, literature, and cinema—along with extensive travel across Europe, North Africa, and the subcontinent—widened that horizon even further. With more than fifteen books, award-winning research, and decades of teaching behind him, he brings an entire library's worth of perspective to the table. Together, we wander into the heart of perennialism: the possibility that an eternal, unchanging truth breathes through the world's diverse spiritual forms. From the paradox of a reality that is at once timeless and ever-unfolding, to the role of myth, symbol, and art as gateways to the inner life, this conversation opens like a many-petaled mandala. We explore the dance between exoteric and esoteric knowing, the gifts and hazards of modernity, and the subtle places where traditions converge without losing their distinct contours. Underneath it all is a shared longing: to discover a common ground deep enough to honor real diversity. It's a rich, warm, far-reaching dialogue—an invitation to slow down, listen deeply, and rediscover the wisdom traditions as living companions. Pull up a chair. In late November 2025, Taiwan marked a significant milestone with the successful launch of the first satellite in the Formosat-8 constellation. Carried into a 561-km sun-synchronous orbit aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9, the “Chi Po-lin” satellite symbolizes both technical progress and cultural meaning, extending the late filmmaker's aerial perspective of Taiwan into space. This mission inaugurates Taiwan's first domestically built high-resolution Earth-observation constellation. FORMOSAT-8 will eventually consist of eight satellites deployed between 2025 and 2031. With native 1-meter resolution—improving to roughly 70 centimeters for two advanced units—the constellation will provide multiple daily revisits over Taiwan. Importantly, about 84% of each satellite's core components are manufactured in Taiwan, covering optics, structures, propulsion, and electronics. This demonstrates the country's ambition to develop a self-reliant industrial base for space technologies. The episode also explores the broader global landscape. The value of the global space economy reached USD 570 billion in 2023 and is projected to exceed USD 1 trillion within the decade. Reusable rockets from SpaceX and Blue Origin, mega-constellations such as Starlink and OneWeb, and commercial imaging companies like Planet Labs and ICEYE are reshaping how nations communicate, observe Earth, and respond to climate and security challenges. In this episode, we examine what Formosat-8 means for Taiwan's space capabilities, how global players are redefining the space economy, and why satellite technology is becoming essential infrastructure for connectivity, environmental monitoring, disaster response, and national security. Taiwan's emerging participation in this ecosystem reflects both technological ambition and a strategic need for resilience in an increasingly complex world. Powered by Firstory Hosting

A message of character and integrity that is expected of us. Paying forward what has been done for us.
Cliff May discusses severe Christian persecution in Nigeria, which President Tinubu claims guarantees religious liberty. Attacks are carried out by Boko Haram, ISWAP, and powerful Fulani militias. May suggests jihadism acts as theological justification for Fulani nomadic herders to seize land from Christian farmers. The US could provide assistance, training, and advice to the Nigerian military to protect communities. Guest: Cliff May.
In the 1950s, baseball broadcasts on television were expanding, and this fairly new technology was starting to catch up to radio in sports coverage, until a groundbreaking innovation cemented radio for the next sixty years as the most flexible, reliable way to experience a game away from the ballpark. In this episode, I discuss the history of this breakthrough, along with some of the iconic personalities that benefited from the invisible waves that carried their voices to the most remote reaches of the country, and world.

You know that moment when everything falls apart and you realize it's exactly what needed to happen? This conversation explores why your worst relationships, your absent parents, and even the death of your dog might be the exact teachers you needed. Justin shares the story of carrying his 90-pound dog out of the woods as she died on his shoulders, why he intentionally stopped his 3 AM meditation practice after years of discipline, and how his father being the "perfect anti-role model" taught him more than any perfect parent could have. You'll discover why trying to awaken is the trap itself, how meditation can become another form of spiritual materialism, and the difference between being in life versus being lost in it. This isn't about toxic positivity or forcing enlightenment. It's about learning to read between the lines of your own thinking, understanding that sensitivity is actually "lemon juice" that leads to consciousness, and why the truest kings are the kings of nothing. The conversation gets real about loneliness, isolation, and the messy parts of waking up that nobody wants to talk about. You'll hear why forcing truth on people who aren't ready is violence, how to let go of the victim mentality by seeing what you learned instead of what happened to you, and why your need to help others might actually be stopping their growth. Hit play to discover why the trap door spider, your high school heartbreak, and that 9-1 football season loss were all showing you the same thing. Read Online“What man among you having a hundred sheep and losing one of them would not leave the ninety-nine in the desert and go after the lost one until he finds it? And when he does find it, he sets it on his shoulders with great joy and, upon his arrival home, he calls together his friends and neighbors and says to them, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.'” Luke 15:4–6Some of the great saints point out that the number one hundred represents perfection. One hundred refers to the perfection of the Kingdom of God, which represents not only all of the saints in Heaven but also the angels. The one lost sheep represents all of humanity as we make our way through this life. Jesus, of course, is the Shepherd Whose attention turns to fallen humanity on a diligent search for us so as to carry us home.First, notice that the Shepherd does not search for the one stray sheep out of anger but out of concern and love. Understanding this is essential if we are to have a correct understanding of how our Lord sees us when we stray. We must see His deep concern, His diligence in searching, and His unwavering commitment to find us in our straying condition. This is not a God Who sits back in judgment and anger but a God Who came to us, took on our fallen human nature, and endured all suffering so as to find us and bring us home.Notice also that in this parable, the Shepherd places the lost sheep on His shoulders and carries the sheep home. Oftentimes we can fall into the trap of thinking that we must make our way back to God by our own effort. But the truth is that God is always there, waiting to pick us up and carry us home. Our duty is to surrender to His merciful hands and to stop running. This is done by turning to Him and allowing Him to come to us and minister to us. The primary effort is on the part of our Lord once we surrender ourselves into His gentle Hands. Finally, notice that the rejoicing mentioned in this parable is on the part of the Shepherd. Of course we also will rejoice at being picked up and carried home to the perfection of God's Kingdom, but our rejoicing is done in response to the joy of our Lord. It is His joy we are invited to share in. It is His heart that is filled with gratitude as we allow Him to tenderly carry us home. “Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep,” He says. Reflect, today, upon this holy image of the Good Shepherd. As you ponder this parable and imagery, be attentive to the various thoughts, memories, emotions and fears that are evoked within you. Each one of us is different, and our Lord deeply desires to come to each one of us right where we are, in the midst of our sins. Pondering the compassion of this Good Shepherd will open the door for our Lord to speak to you and to invite you personally to come to Him, turning away from the ways that you personally have strayed. Do not run away. Remain in confidence as He comes to you. Listen to His voice and say “Yes” to Him as He lifts you up to carry you home. My gentle Jesus, You are the Good Shepherd. You love me and search for me with diligence and fidelity. May I trust You enough to stop running from You and hiding from Your gentle voice. Please come to me, pick me up, place me on Your shoulders and carry me home. Jesus, I trust in You.Image via PixabaySource of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2025 My Catholic Life! The Scarcity Value of Time: Impressionism and the Legacy of Julie Manet. Sebastian Smee discusses how Berthe Morisot's life is carried forward by her daughter, Julie Manet, who represents a "perfect representation of Berthe." Before Berthe succumbed to illness, she wrote a tender letter expressing how Julie had "never once not made me happy." Smee links the philosophy of Impressionism to Sigmund Freud's essay "On Transience," arguing that awareness of mortality should make people value the present moment more—a concept called "scarcity value in time." Impressionism is inherently an "art of transience" that captures fugitive effects. Morisot exemplified this philosophy by valuing the present moment's beauty, refusing to apply artificial meanings or permanence. Ironically, revolutionary Impressionism soon became "orthodox," though the next generation reacted against it, believing it lacked structure. Despite criticisms, Impressionism has lasted because audiences recognize the truth in valuing fugitive effects, and its greatest contribution was the liberation of color.

It's a secret. In the Kali-yuga: Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa have combined into one form, and it is by worshiping that one form, which is Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu—who is the combination of Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa—that Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura makes an explanation about, he says, " (ese) bṛndābane rādhā-śyāmer pa'be daraśan gaura-kṛpā ha'le he." He says, "Oh this is the most wonderful thing you are ever going to hear! This is the biggest news!" Turn off all other apps; they're not important anymore. There's only one thing that's important, and that is Rādhā and Krṣṇa have combined into one form, as Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. And if you come and bow down to the lotus feet of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu and take his process of chanting the Hare Krṣṇa mahāmantra and spread it all over the world, then 'se se Vṛndāvane Rādhā-Śyāme pābe darśan.' You can enter into the pastimes of Rādhā and Krṣṇa, the love affair. The only thing that's worth thinking about: the love affair, the ādī-rasa that's going on in the spiritual world. And you'll be carried to the spiritual world by diving into the ocean of saṅkīrtan of Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu. You'll come up on the beach, and you'll drag yourself up on the beach after being washed away by the saṅkīrtan movement. You'll look up, and you'll see Rādhā and Krṣṇa and their divine pastimes by the mercy of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu! Therefore, Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākur gave us this very special song to sing, to remember that the Kali-yuga, it's the worst age. prāyeṇālpāyuṣaḥ sabhya kalāv asmin yuge janāḥ mandāḥ sumanda-matayo manda-bhāgyā hy upadrutāḥ (ŚB 1.1.10) This means, according to sages at Naimiṣāraṇya, in this Iron Age of Kali, men have but short lives.Tell me if you agree! They are quarrelsome, lazy, misguided, unlucky, and always disturbed. However, if one dives into the ocean of saṅkīrtan and then swims for a while, you'll run into a beach, and when you crawl up on the beach, you'll look, and you'll see the pastimes of Rādhā and Krṣṇa by the mercy of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
