Welcome to another episode of Y11 Audio! This is Ypsilanti's college football show and the official podcast of Ypsi11.com.Here's something to look forward to this offseason: Saturday conversations between myself and Justin Coffin — formerly of Hustle Belt and MAC Football Pod fame. It won't be every single week, but the two of us will get together for regular conversations about the MAC's biggest topics. This week, we're focusing on Maurice Linguist's exit at Buffalo for Alabama. No, he's not going to be a head coach, he's leaving for a high-end assistant position. Is this the start of a new trend in the (arguably) wrong direction for MAC-level head coaches? Or is this the start of a very breakable cycle?Hopefully, MAC coaches can get more luck than what they've seen lately. Either way, Buffalo should feel pretty grateful for how Linguist was able to come into a difficult situation when Lance Leipold left for Kansas in late April 2021. Linguist wasn't the Bulls' coach until May, and right before he took the Buffalo job he was a recent hire to be Michigan's co-defensive coordinator. Welcome to another episode of Y11 Audio! This is Ypsilanti's college football show and the official podcast of Ypsi11.com.The 2023 college football season is only weeks away, so let's focus on each of the divisional races within the MAC. To help break down the MAC East race is Justin Coffin, formerly of Hustle Belt and Free on Saturday blogs, currently with MAC Football Pod (I should probably say that I'm also on that podcast.) Kent State (9:45) doesn't have a single starter returning to its offense, so it will take a lot for Kenni Burns to pick up his first career win. Under second-year head coach Joe Moorhead, Akron (15:30) is a squad that we really want to be optimistic for. It helps when Akron has such a talented QB on its side, too.Sure Buffalo (22:57) put up a 50 burger at Rynearson last year, but how much should the Bulls be feared heading into 2023? I'm confident the Bulls will be tough as nails, but I don't know how it'll string together wins in the second half of its MAC slate.Bowling Green (27:22) is a liar and I have no idea what to expect from the team this year. How many marginal improvements does BG really want to stay happy with?Last year's darling team is no secret this year. Ohio (34:37) has maybe the best offense in the MAC coming back, and Kurtis Rourke's bound to be a legit superstar in G5 football. Miami (40:17) has been as consistent as you can ask for, but now it has the best formula a MAC team can ask for: a 4th-year starting quarterback with a 10th-year, defensive-minded head coach. If Brett Gabbert stays healthy, Miami has the chance to have a monster season.Y11 Audio is available via Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and basically wherever else podcasts are found.Reach out to the showTwitter: @ARAlvarado13 | @YpsiElevenEmail: ypsieleven@gmail.com. Welcome to another episode of Y11 Audio!Sorry it's been so long. I lied to myself saying I'd do two podcast episodes here per week during the season, and that's a lie I had to drop very early on. Now, expect things to happen once every two weeks on this feed. After the best season this program's had since 1987, I want to take this time to look back a little bit on the season that was, then spend a lot of time looking at the roster Eastern Michigan currently has with a week until the second signing period (and months from the second transfer window opening). Speaking of new roster additions: Scott Ariganello makes his debut with The Ypsilanti Eleven. He'll write about football for the site. More on that later. Also, Justin Coffin of Hustle Belt and MAC Football Pod fame hopped on to help me grade the seasons that each MAC team had in 2022. Ohio State had little trouble dispatching Arkansas State in a 45-12 win and even though the Buckeyes still had some hiccups and didn't cover the spread, things weren't too far off from what we expected out of Saturday's game. C.J. Stroud, Marvin Harrison Jr., and TreVeyon Henderson were explosive on the offensive side of the ball. The linebackers and defensive line are still playing well, and the defense is forcing field goals instead of allowing touchdowns. Although the Buckeyes need to clean up the penalties and perhaps start forcing a few turnovers, things are on schedule. We look into the scores and stats of Ohio State's win. Of course, we checked in to see how our predictions and our picks to click fared, and we are seemingly better on the offensive side than the defensive side so far this season. Ohio State's defensive ends aren't putting up big numbers even when they're playing well, so we're seeing some patterns emerge in the statistical breakdowns of the games. To get us prepped for the Toledo Rockets, we enlisted the help of Steve Helwick from SBNation's Hustle Belt blog, which covers all the MACtion. Steve got us caught up with familiar face Dallas Gant's exploits with the Rockets this season, told us what to expect from the Toledo offense and defense, and let us know what the team's expectations are for the 2022 Mid-American Conference season. Big thanks to Steve for both his expertise and his time. After bidding goodbye to our guest, we dug into the results around B1G football in Week 2, which was filled with blowouts but there were a few close games and one that we didn't expect to be close ended up being the last straw for Scott Frost at Nebraska. We threw around some names that the Huskers might turn to in order to right the ship. We'll be back next week to analyze the Toledo matchup, check on our picks and predictions, and get ready for a Big Ten-opening war with Wisconsin. EPISODE 52 New friend on the show! MAC Football Pod is now a 3-person panel with the addition of old friend Justin Coffin. Coffin, like Alex and Kaleb, is from the old Hustle Belt blogging tree. You might also recognize Coffin from the Tuesday Night Lights podcast and/or his Free on Saturday blog.  QB Ben Roethlisberger retired from Pittsburgh after spending 18 years in the NFL. Roethlisberger was a 1st round draft pick by the Steelers (7th overall) out of Miami-OH in 2004, and has been a record-setting player in the league ever since. That's all the nice things we have to say about him though. Two bits of coaching news to catch up on: Jason Candle stays at Toledo as head coach, not taking the offensive coordinating job down in Miami (the Florida one). We don't need to trivialize why he isn't leaving his current post, but what makes Candle qualified to still move up in the coaching ranks? Speaking of not leaving: Tim Lester's contract was extended, which means WMU will never, ever, ever rise above 8-4 or fall below 6-6 records.  Twitters: @ARAlvarado13, @Kaleb_M_Carter, and @NIFFOCNITSUJ. Happy Friday folks! It was a bittersweet week here at the Bandwagon, as we announce Sam's departure as co-host of the show. It's been a great ride building this up from nothing over the past year, so we put together a great show to send him out on a high note! In the major news story of the week, the boys break down Frank Solich's retirement at Ohio. Solich led the Bobcats for 16 years and retires as the winningest head football coach in MAC history. What he's done for the Bobcats program has been incredible, and we don't think it's crazy to say there will be a statue of him in Athens one day. Long time offensive coordinator Tim Albin will take over the reins of the program, and we'll be curious to see if he'll be able to sustain the Bobcats momentum over the next few seasons. Also at Ohio, AD Julie Cromer announced Geoff Carlston as the new head coach of the Bobcats women's volleyball program. Carlston returns to Athens for a second stint as head coach, previously serving in the role from 2003-2007. In that time, Carlston's squads went 144-22, and 78-2 in the MAC. Are those numbers good? Carlston returns to Athens after spending 12 years in Columbus leading the Ohio State women's program. Lastly in the news, the boys break down the MAC selections in last weekends MLB draft. The headliner was Miami pitcher Sam Bachman, who went 9th overall to the LA Angels. Overall, 9 MAC players were drafted, including MAC Player of the Year Chris Myers of Toledo. Best of luck to all of the MAC athletes who heard their name called! In this weeks football preview, Zach and Sam select the players who they think will serve as the “Keys to Success” for each MAC squad this year. Who will be the driver of your team this season? What players or position groups need to step up? Let us know! To close out this weeks show, soon to be co-host Steve Helwick stops by to introduce himself to the audience. Steve has been covering the MAC for Hustle Belt for five years now, so if you're a Belter, you certainly have read his work. Steve talks about his love for college football, how he got introduced to the MAC, and the teams that intrigue him this year. We're looking forward to welcoming Steve as a new co-host! As always thanks for stopping by this week folks. Have a great weekend, and we'll see you back here next Friday! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

EPISODE 6 Did you know that college football's first-ever 3,000-yard passer came through Northern Illinois? Kaleb Carter (@Kaleb_M_Carter on Twitter), formerly of the DeKalb Daily Chronicle and Hustle Belt, currently 1/2 of MAC Football Forever on YouTube, joins the show to talk about the legend of George Bork and what his impact on NIU football has been ever since he played football there 50 years ago. Bork was the first player in CFB history at any level to throw for 3,000 yards in a season, and had 32 touchdown passes as a senior. He was an All-American in both football and basketball, and is also NIU's first player to ever be inducted in the College Football Hall of Fame. In 1963, Bork helped lead NIU to an undefeated season (10-0) to be the #1 small college team in America. NIU maximized its potential to grow from that by building Huskie Stadium (22,500 person capacity) in 1965, and used it to move up to the Division-1A ranks. Also, Julian Edelman retired from the NFL after a decade-plus of pesky receiver play. He wasn't a natural receiver out of college, just a football player at Kent State that kept being overlooked until Bill Belichick made him a 7th-round draft pick in 2009. Edelman was never an All-Pro selection, but he ended up having one of the most historic postseason careers of any NFL receiver in history. Edelman is the first, and only, MAC graduate to win a Super Bowl MVP award.  SUPPORT THE PROGRAM VIA PATREON: If you enjoy the podcast and want to help support, consider becoming a monthly donor through Patreon!
