I-70 Football Show: An in Depth Dive into a the new Big Ten

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 4, 2022 92:39

Welcome to a new episode of Land-Grant Holy Land's I-70 podcast. On this show we talk all things Big Ten football and basketball. After every week of action, we will get you caught up on all the conference's games and look ahead at the matchups, storylines, and players that you should be paying attention to in the next week. My name is Jordan Williams, and I am joined by my co-host Dante Morgan. USC and UCLA broke the internet by joining the Big Ten causing us to throw out the show plan. We spend the whole episode breaking down this groundbreaking move from all angles. USC, with their brand, and Oregon with their play was the only thing keeping the Pac-12 alive. Now USC and their Los Angeles counterparts are leaving for the Big Ten. We discuss the impact this has on the Pac-12 and how we should have seen this coming after the Larry Scott hiring essentially destroyed the conferences reputation. Next, we discuss the aftershocks. Will the Big 12 play the aggressor and try to poach a few teams from the Pac-12? Oregon and Washington are they dream but with their reported interest in the Big Ten, could Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Utah end up in a 16 team Big 12? Would the Big 12 consider going to 18 teams and adding Cal and Stanford? Plus, what could the Big Ten do next? Does Notre Dame reconsider, will they add Oregon and Washington? How long until the ACC breaks their grant of rights and schools end up in the SEC? With all the commotion it's easy to forget the best part which is the actual games. The guys get into the on-field impact including future scheduling. The Big Ten is going to have a hard deciding the three protected opponents in their new 3-6-6 scheduling model. Should they make Ohio State vs. USC a yearly game? What do they do with secondary rivalries like Michigan/Michigan State and Ohio State/Penn State? Jordan discusses his proposed permanent games while Dante switches things up to find the best match ups. Lastly this move sends a signal to the Big Ten. Who will take note and strive to get better? Plus, how soon does USC develop on the lines to face Big Ten competition? Connect with us on Twitter: Jordan: @JordanW330 Dante: @DanteM10216 Learn more about your ad choices. On today's episode of “Buck Off with Christopher Renne,” I am joined by Jordan Williams to discuss the incredibly explosive drama coming from the Southeastern conference as well as the recent news surrounding the Buckeyes. To start the show, we discuss the beef between Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher and Alabama's Nick Saban in regards to the Aggies' recruiting practices. We dissect Saban's initial comments and why this was so shocking to see in the news cycle. This also leads to a discussion about the current state of recruiting and how college football has always lived in the gray area –- and I do my best Jimbo Fisher impression. After that, we discuss Jordan Addison's decision to transfer to USC as well as my article about why Ohio State should always be looking to add talent like Addison in the offseason. We get into why Ohio State might be looking for a similar level player in the future at another position and why getting a player like Addison is more of a guarantee than anything on the roster. We also discuss the exciting recruiting month ahead including two potential VIP visitors who the Buckeyes hope to see. This leads to us discussing the importance of visits and the importance of getting the player into the room as a coach. We close out the show with a discussion about the new coaching contracts at Ohio State and the final decision on conference divisions in college football. Learn more about your ad choices. With legislation set to pass that will get rid of the rule that determines conferences with more then 12 teams must play a round robin schedule or have divisions to host a conference championship game. Will the Big Ten capitalize on this rule and get rid of their uneven divisions? The guys answer this question and more with TV rights and playoff expansion on the horizon. In their weekly pit stops, Jordan discusses James Harden being washed and not helping the 76ers in the playoffs. We start the show discussing buying mom a house when you make it and why we find it funny when players buy their dads a car. Plus will Primetime stay at Jackson State? and is he getting the credit he deserves for the recognition he's bringing to HBCUs? Dane Bruegler of The Athletic released his way too early 2023 mock draft and it featured multiple Big Ten players. If a QB needy team has the first pick will C.J. Stroud be the first player off the board? Is Will Levis really an early first-round pick? If so what does that say for Penn State's handling of him? Should they have tabbed Levis over Sean Clifford? One surprise in the mock draft is Ohio State's senior defensive end Zach Harrision. His production hasn't matched his five-star status but at 6'6 260+ pounds he runs a sub 4.5 forty-yard dash and has the measurables for a first-round pick. Can he improve enough in his last season to get his name called on day one? In their weekly pit stops, Dante discusses playoff basketball and why people have different standards for the Boston Celtics and the Milwaukee Bucks. After every week of action, we will get you caught up on all the conference's games and look ahead at the matchups, storylines, and players that you should be paying attention to in the next week. My name is Jordan Williams, and I am joined by my co-host Dante Morgan. The 2022 NFL Draft has ended marking another year that the “Big Two” ran laps around the rest of college football. Forty-eight Big Ten players got their names called and a multitude of others signed undrafted free agent deals and accepted invites to mini camps. The SEC continued to dominate with 65 total selections, including a record-breaking 15 from the National Champion Georgia Bulldogs. After the B1G's 48, the next closest conference had 25 selections while “blue bloods” Clemson and Texas combined for two total players drafted. Penn State lead the Big Ten with eight players drafted followed by Ohio State with six. Every team in the Big Ten had at least one player drafted aside from the Northwestern Wildcats. With the Nittany Lions leading the Big Ten in draft selections including a first-round pick and multiple second-round picks, Jordan wants to know if Penn State failed by only going 7-5 in 2021. Overall, the Big Ten had seven — eight if you include Jamison Williams — first-round picks. A showing the conference should be very proud of. With their weekly pitstops, Dante highlights the USFL and their entertaining football games. Jordan agrees and hopes that it succeeds and becomes to the NFL what the G-League is to the NBA. Jordan thinks the Colts SHOULD win the AFC South for the first time since 2014. They've had a solid off-season so far so here's hoping it translates to the field. Maybe the NFL can start taking notes… However, you'll find no coverage of the men's final, since Meredith and Tia can't stay up that late.  Contact Tia Johnston Twitter: @tiajohnston_ Contact Meredith Hein Twitter: @MeredithHein Learn more about your ad choices. On today's episode of “Buck Off with Christopher Renne,” with Jordan Williams out this week we get into some of the biggest stories coming out of Ohio State' Spring Practice. This week during spring practice, Cade Stover moved back to tight end and we get into why this move will be beneficial. We take a look at why Stover potentially made this move and why this is not a problem of depth at the tight end position. We also discuss how this could mean the linebacker position is in a good place. The other spring storylines we discuss include the new “Jack” linebacker position, and the king of the jungle. We also get into the offensive line and how the group can actually be the biggest factor in the offensive success. After that, we discuss the new NIL Fund for Ohio State athletes and how this might impact the football program. We talk about the moral ambiguity of a charity dedicated to paying athletes and why this might be a little off putting to some. Then we get into the board members and how this can be beneficial for Ohio State, but won't realistically change much. Blue bloods are all the rave right now, so I give you the be all end all criteria of what makes a college football blue blood that was featured on The Athletic. After the criteria I get into my eight blue bloods, the teams that just missed the cut, and the teams that might be on the way out of blue blood status. Lastly, I give you my Final Four predictions and start/join the #FadeCoachK brigade. Land-Grant Holy Land's newest podcast, ‘Bucketheads' takes you on a journey across the college basketball landscape every episode. The only basketball-focused podcast in the LGHL family of podcasts, co-hosts Connor Lemons and Justin Golba give the latest scoop on the Ohio State Buckeyes as well as all the other happenings in the college hoops world. During this week's episode, we catch up on all of the news that we've missed over the past two weeks. We start by giving a big picture look at Ohio State's loss to Villanova in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Villanova was obviously the better, more well-coached team. But did the Buckeyes leave it all out there and give them their best punch? We think so. We then discuss Malaki Branham's future in Columbus — will the pain of this year's tournament loss impact his decision at all? With Branham climbing mock drafts before the NBA combine even starts, it's looking less and less likely that we will see him in an Ohio State jersey again. We close by rambling about who we think will be filling the two vacant assistant coaching spots as well as which potential transfers Ohio State could go after. Will the Buckeyes add a former Ohio State point guard to their coaching staff who we're already very familiar with? And will Holtmann and Diebler land a dynamic wing from the portal — a la a Terrence Shannon or Jalen Bridges?
