It's here. It's "The Game" week. It's Michigan vs. Ohio State. It's 11-0 against 11-0. It's No. 2 vs. No. 3. Trips to the Big Ten Championship game and the College Football Playoff are on the line. To say that this weekend's game between U-M and OSU is huge is a monstrous understatement. Jim Harbaugh spoke about the matchup and called it the meeting of two "superheroes" as he heaped praise onto the Buckeyes. We know how Harbaugh really feels about that team down south, but he kept it respectful at the microphone. In the locker room, it's probably a different story, which is totally fine. Between Ohio State's banged up running backs TreVeyon Henderson and Miyan Williams, and U-M's own pair of injured ball carries Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards, everyone is really interested in how the offenses will look. Of course, much of the game will probably come down to how CJ Stroud performs with his stable of talented receivers against how JJ McCarthy operates as he tries to clean some recent issues up. However it plays out, it's going to be massive, entertaining and certainly influential as it pertains to the conference and the playoff picture.

Buckeye Breakdown

Brendan Gulick and Andrew Lind provide instant analysis following the Ohio State Buckeyes' sluggish 21-7 victory against the Northwestern Wildcats. It wasn't a pretty victory by any stretch of the imagination in Evanston for Ohio State today, as they struggled to establish consistent offensive production all game against Northwestern. The weather was a major storyline, as gusts of over 50 mph made it difficult for either team to throw the ball.  The Buckeyes once again found it difficult to move the ball on the ground, and outside of a 27-yard touchdown by Miyan Williams in the third quarter that gave the Buckeyes the lead, their situational execution on short-yardage third and forth downs left more to be desired. They ended the game with 202 rushing yards, but it wasn't a dominant performance on the ground. TreVeyon Henderson was out of the game after missing practice all week with a foot injury, and his presence was missed as the Buckeyes turned to C.J. Stroud to provide a secondary spark in the running game. He proved to be effective, highlighted by a 44-yard run down the right sideline in the fourth quarter. Williams capped off that drive with a touchdown, and the Buckeyes held on to win. Northwestern relied heavily on their running game, gaining 206 yards on the ground and out-gaining Ohio State by a slim 285-283 margin overall. Brendan Sullivan only attempted 14 passes all game, and exited late with an injury. The offense frequently shifted in the wildcat formation with Evan Hull taking direct snaps; Northwestern had success with this early, but as the game entered its later stages, the Ohio State defense adjusted. J.T. Tuimoloau flashed on a few notable plays yet again this week, nearly intercepting a pass in the first quarter and recording a tackle-for-loss. The Buckeyes now turn the page to next Saturday's matchup against the Indiana Hoosiers in Columbus. ----- Subscribe to our YouTube channel for more coverage of the Buckeyes! Brendan Gulick and Andrew Lind provide instant analysis from Happy Valley following the Ohio State Buckeyes' resilient 44-31 win over the Penn State Nittany Lions. In a game that had wild twists and turns, Ohio State survived an upset bid from Penn State this afternoon. A tight contest throughout, key contributions from Marvin Harrison Jr. (10 receptions, 185 yards) and J.T. Tuimoloau (6 tackles, 2 sacks, 3 tackles-for-loss, 2 interceptions, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, 1 touchdown) paved the way for Ohio State to flip the script late in the game. TreVeyon Henderson took over as the Buckeyes' primary running back after Miyan Williams exited the game in the first half with an injury. He scored twice in the fourth quarter, including a 41-yard touchdown that gave Ohio State the lead, 23-21. The Buckeyes never relinquished that lead, and ended up opening the gap quickly with 2 touchdowns in 34 seconds and a game-clinching pick-six by Tuimoloau. ----- Subscribe to our YouTube channel for more coverage of the Buckeyes! Ohio State looked like a national championship-caliber team during the first half of the regular season. The Buckeyes have been the most dominant team in college football so far this year, winning all six games before their bye week by an average of 33.2 points, the highest in the country. Ohio State currently ranks in the top 15 nationally in scoring offense (1st), total offense (2nd), passing offense (14th), rushing offense (14th), total defense (7th), scoring defense (15th), passing defense (8th) and rushing defense (15th).As a result, Ohio State has emerged as the betting favorite to win this year's national championship, and based on what we've seen so far this season, we believe there's a great chance the Buckeyes will be hoisting the national championship trophy at the end of the year.Only one of us went as far as to predict the Buckeyes will actually win it all, and our one reservation about Ohio State's early success is the Buckeyes haven't played anyone that's currently a top-25 team. But we both agree that Ohio State should be the No. 1-ranked team in the country right now and that the Buckeyes appear capable of beating anyone they play in 2022.The rundown of what we talked about this week: 1:10: Ohio State cruises to another blowout win in its first road game of the year at Michigan State 3:07: C.J. Stroud becomes the clear-cut Heisman favorite after another fantastic performance 6:48: Marvin Harrison Jr. is well on his way to becoming one of Ohio State's all-time great wide receivers 9:32: Emeka Egbuka is having a spectacular season, too, and Julian Fleming continues to impress 12:30: TreVeyon Henderson looked motivated to remind everyone what he can do 18:11: Ohio State got creative in the run game without Miyan Williams, and Xavier Johnson looked legit at RB 21:11: The defensive line dominated in East Lansing, especially Mike Hall on his seven snaps 26:10: Cornerback remains a position of concern halfway through the season 30:25: Safeties have been the unsung heroes of Ohio State's defense 33:15: Why Dan now believes Ohio State will win the national championship 38:12: Why Griffin isn't quite ready to say the Buckeyes will win it all 45:20: Midseason Superlatives: Most impressive players, biggest surprises and who needs to step up most 52:39: It's a great weekend to watch some teams other than Ohio State play college football

On this postgame Buckeye Talk after Ohio State's 49-20 win over Michigan State, Doug Lesmerises, Nathan Baird and Stephen Means take postgame questions from text subscribers. As a reminder, those questions usually aren't "Why is Ohio State so good?" So the Buckeyes are 6-0 heading into their off week and very possibly playing like the best team in the country. But the majority of questions were centered around three topics: With Miyan Williams out Saturday and TreVeyon Henderson leaving the game after hitting 100 yards with a minor injury, should OSU fans worry about the running back health? And how important are the running backs to a championship OSU season? Why doesn't Ryan Day let the second-team offense, specifically backup QB Kyle McCord, do more? Why are the cornerbacks continuing to struggle at times, what can be fixed there, and which opponents could take advantage of what looks like the weak spot in the defense? Other topics covered include Mike Hall Jr, the explanation for Ohio State's pick-six, and kickoffs going out of bounds. Again, Ohio State played very well and should inspire a lot of confidence in fans, but this is what was on the minds of the Buckeye Talk faithful halfway through the regular season. It no longer feels like a hot take to say Miyan Williams is Ohio State's best running back.Williams hasn't just been Ohio State's best running back this season, he's been one of the best running backs in college football this year. TreVeyon Henderson remains great, too, but after Williams' 189-yard, five-touchdown performance against Rutgers, we've become increasingly convinced that the Cincinnatian is Ohio State's RB1 right now. That's just one of many topics we cover on this week's episode of Real Pod Wednesdays as we also share our thoughts on Jesse Mirco's run and the subsequent Ryan Day/Greg Schiano confrontation that got everyone talking, standout performances by Steele Chambers and Zach Harrison, Michigan State's struggles going into this week's game against Ohio State, the surprising firing of Paul Chryst and the mess that is the Big Ten West. The rundown of the topics discussed on this week's show: 0:16: Ohio State vs. Rutgers wasn't the most thrilling game we've ever watched, but it was pretty much what we expected 1:16: The case for Miyan Williams being Ohio State's best running back and one of the best running backs in the entire country 7:46: Why it's dumb for anyone to be mad about Jesse Mirco running instead of punting – or running up the score in general 16:15: Steele Chambers and Tommy Eichenberg are thriving at linebacker 20:11: Zach Harrison shows he can be a difference-maker as a situational defensive tackle 24:04: Ohio State's red zone play calling was a little weird, but you can't complain about going 5-for-5 28:36: Should Ohio State be getting the backups more playing time in blowouts? 30:52: A look at what's gone wrong for Michigan State as the Spartans have lost three straight games 35:37: Score predictions for Saturday's game in East Lansing 38:29: We were shocked Wisconsin fired Paul Chryst so soon, but we understand why it happened 44:30: The Big Ten West is struggling, and the Big Ten is probably wishing it eliminated divisions before this season 47:50: Ohio State is now the betting favorite to win the national championship, but still third in the polls 53:14: A Clemson/USC swap in our College Football Playoff picks – and how Ohio State and Michigan could both make the CFP 57:07: Dan explains what his day covering an Ohio State football game is like 1:02:31: Why we expect Brice Sensabaugh to win the Ohio State basketball dunk contest this week

Ohio State is fairly banged up through five games, which is to be expected when playing a violent sport like football. But are the Buckeyes beginning to get healthier overall as a team? You could make that argument, but there are also several players whose statuses remain up in the air as OSU heads to Michigan State on Saturday (4 p.m. ET; ABC). Head coach Ryan Day said he is hoping that Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Cameron Brown and TreVeyon Henderson will play against the Spartans. He also mentioned Jordan Hancock is back practicing at full speed, but they are going to be cautious with him and hold him out until at least after the bye week next week. Kourt Williams has been able to play a little bit, but defensive coordinator Jim Knowles mentioned on Tuesday that Williams is banged up and they need to get him fully healthy. Speaking of Knowles, entering the season Day said his expectation was for the Buckeyes to have a top-10 defense. Well, guess what? Ohio State is ranked exactly 10th in the country in total defense. How 'bout that? Also, what do we think of the matchup against Michigan State with OSU favored by 26.5 points? It wasn't a great game from Ohio State's Heisman front-runner quarterback C.J. Stroud, but it didn't really matter because Miyan Williams asserted himself as not only a true contender to be Ohio State's No. 1 running back, but also a darkhorse Heisman contender himself. In the game, Chop went for 189 yards on the ground and a program record-tying five touchdowns. After Jordan Williams and Matt Tamanini start today's "Instant Recap" podcast by breaking down the heated confrontation between Ryan Day and Greg Schiano, they discuss the importance of Williams in the game today and whether or not he has earned the right to be RB1 even when TreVeyon Henderson is healthy in back in the lineup. They also nitpick Stroud's performance a bit; while it was far from his best, he is still the best QB in the country, and it's actually a good thing that when he has one of his extremely rare bad games, there is a top-tier running back to clean up the mess. They also discuss the importance of Emeka Egbuka in this receiving corps and how he compares with WR in OSU's recent past. On this episode of "Land-Grant Holy Land Uncut," we have press conference audio from the press conference following No. 3 Ohio State's 52-21 victory over the Wisconsin Badgers on Saturday, Sept. 24. Buckeye head coach Ryan Day and quarterback C.J. Stroud met with the media to provide insight into how the home team was able to effectively dominate every aspect of the game. Day discussed why the stable of Miyan Williams and TreVeyon Henderson is working so well when tandem backfields have often underperformed in the past for Ohio State, He also praises the defense for effectively shutting down Badgers' running back Braelon Allen during the meaningful portion of the game, and he discusses some of the injuries that his team has been dealing with. Stroud talks about the momentum that the offense built in the early portion of the game and how that carried the entire team forward. The quarterback also praised the team's two top running backs, not only for their carrying of the ball, but also their pass blocking as well. He also reiterated how important the offensive line is to the team's ability to score seemingly at all. Theme music provided by www.bensound.com  Learn more about your ad choices. The Ohio State Buckeyes who took the field against the Toledo Rockets is the one we've been expecting. Offensively and defensively, the Buckeyes showed up and, for the most part, dominated. There were a couple of defensive hiccups but nothing consistent as Ohio State continues to adjust to a new coordinator on that side of the ball. We break down the key plays and players from the Buckeyes' 77-21 thumping of a Toledo team that is expected to challenge for the Mid-American Conference title. We compare our score predictions to actual events and see whether are picks to click actually...err, clicked. To prepare us for this Saturday's Big Ten opener against the Badgers, we welcomed Rohan Chakravarthi from SBNation's Wisconsin blog, Bucky's 5th Quarter. Rohan got us up to speed on what's different about this year's Badgers, how that vaunted Wisconsin defense is going to deal with Ohio State's offense, the maturation of quarterback Graham Mertz, and where the team is strongest and weakest. Big thanks to Rohan for jumping on with us to talk some B1G football. We took our usual stroll through the rest of the Big Ten scores from Saturday, which featured some surprises — both good and bad — for the conference. If not for Sparty's most recent road trip, the entire Big Ten East would be unbeaten. That's right, even Rutgers and Indiana have managed to avoid defeat thus far. Meanwhile, there are several tire fires ablaze in the West, including what is looking like an exceedingly long season in Lincoln. We turned our attention back to Wisconsin for the final segment, looking at what Ohio State has to do either with or without TreVeyon Henderson on Saturday. Winning first down is going to be a big key, particularly when the Buckeyes are on defense. We're expecting one of those annoyingly close games at least until halftime and then we'll see which team adjusts and has the better second half. We'll be back next week to analyze the Wisconsin game, check on our picks and predictions, and get ready for Rutgers. This is impossible, because one can never truly be ready for Rutgers, but we'll try. Ohio State had little trouble dispatching Arkansas State in a 45-12 win and even though the Buckeyes still had some hiccups and didn't cover the spread, things weren't too far off from what we expected out of Saturday's game. C.J. Stroud, Marvin Harrison Jr., and TreVeyon Henderson were explosive on the offensive side of the ball. The linebackers and defensive line are still playing well, and the defense is forcing field goals instead of allowing touchdowns. Although the Buckeyes need to clean up the penalties and perhaps start forcing a few turnovers, things are on schedule. We look into the scores and stats of Ohio State's win. Of course, we checked in to see how our predictions and our picks to click fared, and we are seemingly better on the offensive side than the defensive side so far this season. Ohio State's defensive ends aren't putting up big numbers even when they're playing well, so we're seeing some patterns emerge in the statistical breakdowns of the games. To get us prepped for the Toledo Rockets, we enlisted the help of Steve Helwick from SBNation's Hustle Belt blog, which covers all the MACtion. Steve got us caught up with familiar face Dallas Gant's exploits with the Rockets this season, told us what to expect from the Toledo offense and defense, and let us know what the team's expectations are for the 2022 Mid-American Conference season. Big thanks to Steve for both his expertise and his time. After bidding goodbye to our guest, we dug into the results around B1G football in Week 2, which was filled with blowouts but there were a few close games and one that we didn't expect to be close ended up being the last straw for Scott Frost at Nebraska. We threw around some names that the Huskers might turn to in order to right the ship. We'll be back next week to analyze the Toledo matchup, check on our picks and predictions, and get ready for a Big Ten-opening war with Wisconsin. Shake Down the Numbers: Notre Dame Football Stats and Analytics

It's game week! Cooper and Eric preview the showdown with the Buckeyes in the Horseshoe. (0:00) 3rd and Gold, our pledge drive partnered with Brady Quinn's 3rd and Goal Foundation, is back! Pledge your preferred amount for Irish players or team milestones, all proceeds from these pledges will be donated to the 3rd and Goal Foundation to help veterans with disabilities and to provide education to veterans. Link below! (2:10) Ohio State's offensive preview. The Buckeyes are an elite unit despite losing two first round WR (Wilson, Olave) and two veteran OL (Petite-Frere, Munford) to the NFL draft. Led by Heisman favorite CJ Stroud, likely Biletnikoff finalist Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Doak Walker watch list member TreVeyon Henderson, the Buckeyes have the talent to lead the P5 in scoring. Marvin Harrison Jr, Julian Fleming and Emeka Egbuka will present matchup problems for the Irish secondary and LB. (9:50) Notre Dame offense discussion. The Irish have a recent history of being boat-raced offensively by elite offenses, most notably future national champions 2018 Clemson and 2020 Alabama. With this OSU team looking to be at the level of those programs, how can Notre Dame maximize their roster talent to overcome the wider talent deficit? The guys also discuss what first-year starter Tyler Buchner brings to the table. (17:15) Notre Dame defense preview. The Irish boast a formidable front 7, with a defensive line that is among the top in the country and an experienced and talented LB corps. The Irish have a number of ballhawk safeties, but the corner room leaves a lot to be desired after Cam Hart. Tariq Bracy has had a fantastic summer, and the Irish need the presumptive Nickel to shine. Clarence Lewis has hit moments, but inconsistency plagued his 2021 season, most notably in the Fiesta Bowl. With the scoring ability of this OSU defense, the Irish will need to generate pressure and likely turnovers if they want to limit the Buckeye scoring machine enough to give the offense a shot to win. (20:55) Game predictions. Cooper and Eric give their score predictions and discuss the outlook for what different outcomes likely mean for the Irish this year. This also leads into a wider discussion of talent disparity in College Football and how Maruc Freeman is moving the envelope in that regard for the Fighting Irish.
