In this episode, we are back with Ypsilanti's own Nathan Corliss with a live read through of his newest play 'The Cult of Dad'. No stranger to the podcast, playwright/actor/educator Nathan Corliss has debuted other original work on this show including a full reading of his play Three Sinners in 2021. What if Ted Mosby of How I Met your Mother was portrayed as delusional instead of a good guy trying his best? And what if instead of fate leading him to true love, it led him to inherit his dad's cult? That's the seed of this play, which is still a work in progress. Tune in to hear Nathan and the assembled readers work out a possible ending to this unfinished work.

Some stories are too important to leave to chance. Inside the Michigan Firehouse Museum in Ypsilanti, centuries of firefighting history have been carefully preserved — the trucks, the gear, and the remarkable stories of those who risked everything to protect us.Director and Curator Dave Egeler opens the doors to a collection that spans colonial times to modern day, revealing how passion, family legacy, and an unshakeable sense of duty can transform a single firehouse into something truly extraordinary.Because behind every polished engine and every worn leather helmet is a human story — of sacrifice, of service, and of communities that owe more to their firefighters than they may ever know.Links:Michigan Firehouse Museum: Click hereSubscribe to our Email Newsletter: https://totalmichigan.com/join/Find us on Facebook: https://facebook.com/totalmichiganWatch on YouTube: https://youtube.com/@totalmichigan

In the late 1960s, a serial killer hunted college towns in Michigan, targeting young women who trusted the people around them. For two years, fear spread across Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti as bodies were discovered and the violence escalated. Police searched for someone unstable, someone obvious… someone who looked like a threat. They were looking in the wrong direction. Because the man responsible wasn't hiding in the shadows. He was a college student. A fraternity member. A future teacher. And when the case finally broke… it came from inside his own family. Rokeach publiera ses conclusions dans un livre devenu célèbre, The Three Christs of Ypsilanti. Ypsilanti, MI residents Rochelle Clark and Jason Dennie didn't have to go far to get to Grove Studios (7 minutes apparently), but their music will take you on journey somewhere south of there. Both have been making music for quite a long time. They originally met when Rochelle was taking guitar lessons from Jason at Herb David Guitar Studio. Eventually they found each other to be not just musical partners, but partners in life. Rochelle's voice is one that I once said to her in a radio session "you could sing John Bommarito is a big jerk" and it would sound good. I have that audio. It does sound good and it doesn't even hurt when she sings it. Jason's guitar playing, which is what drew me to him in the first place, has him atop my list of best acoustic guitar players in the area (and he may be the best mandolin player in my music scene as well).Enjoy this conversation with two people I am proud to call friends. In this rebroadcast of Murder in the Black, the hosts revisit the haunting case of Gregory Agnew and the unresolved disappearance of his former girlfriend, Tammy Niver. The story unfolds in Ypsilanti, a vibrant college town whose familiar streets hide a far darker history. Tammy vanished shortly after ending a volatile relationship with Gregory—one marked by control, intimidation, and escalating violence. Although suspicion surrounded Gregory early on, a lack of physical evidence prevented an arrest, leaving Tammy's case cold and her family without answers for decades.Years later, Gregory's violent past came sharply into focus when he was convicted of murdering his estranged wife, Martha Anu. Martha had made repeated efforts to expose Gregory's abusive behavior, placing herself in danger while seeking accountability. Her tragic death ultimately reignited attention on Tammy's long-unsolved disappearance. While justice was served in Martha's case, Tammy Niver's fate remains unknown. This rebroadcast highlights the devastating patterns of domestic violence, the long-term impact on victims and their families, and the importance of recognizing warning signs before it's too late.----------------------------------------------------------------⏱ Episode Chapters00:00 — Introduction & Rebroadcast Overview00:30 — The Setting: Ypsilanti, Michigan01:58 — Tammy Niver's Background03:04 — Toxic Dynamics of Gregory and Tammy's Relationship05:40 — Suspicious Circumstances Surrounding Tammy's Disappearance08:13 — Martha Anu's Efforts to Expose Gregory17:59 — The Murder of Martha Anu26:16 — Tammy Niver's Unresolved Case

In this episode of Poducer, we sit down with Slot-A — a Chicago-based DJ, producer, curator, and community-builder whose journey bridges Detroit grit and Chicago soul. Known for his work with Jamila Woods, his Open Swim Chicago event series, and deep roots in the city's underground, Slot-A embodies what it means to turn passion into longevity. From growing up in Ypsilanti, Michigan, to producing in New York and ultimately building a home in Chicago's scene, he shares how faith, hustle, and self-awareness have guided his creative path. Slot-A takes us through his musical beginnings—discovering Sony Acid and Fruity Loops, experimenting with beatmaking on early software, and landing sync placements on shows like Jersey Shore and Stomp the Yard. He reflects on his time interning in New York studios, learning from industry veterans, and realizing that DJing is just as much a sales game as it is an art form—about knowing your value, understanding your crowd, and building leverage through relationships. We explore how he evolved from a bedroom producer to a full-fledged DJ, curator, and event programmer, and how each phase taught him the importance of networking, creating “randomness,” and turning luck into opportunity. Slot-A breaks down the differences between Chicago and New York as creative ecosystems, the philosophy behind Open Swim Chicago and Colors, and what it really takes to build sustainable music communities. Finally, he reflects on executive-producing Jamila Woods' album “LEGACY! LEGACY!”, sharing how that project reshaped his understanding of collaboration, communication, and artistic integrity.
Scot and Jeff discuss Iggy Pop & the Stooges with Dominic Green.Introducing the Band:Your hosts Scot Bertram (@ScotBertram) and Jeff Blehar (@EsotericCD) are joined by guest Dominic Green. Dom is a historian and columnist, and he used to be a musician. He is a contributor to the Wall Street Journal and a columnist for the Washington Examiner and Jewish Chronicle. Check him out on Twitter at @DrDominicGreen.Dominic's Music Pick: Iggy Pop & the StoogesLooooooooooord! When Dominic last joined us on Political Beats, to discuss the great U.K. band The Jam, we declared it to be in some ways one of the most necessary episodes of the show ever. (It was.) He has chosen to return to us this month with another one of the most necessary shows we have recorded, a deep dive into the true foundations of punk.Did "punk" music begin with the Sex Pistols in 1976? With the Velvet Underground in 1966? No. Whatever else you may think punk should be, or whatever else it evolved into, the true musical spirit of punk begins with the Stooges' 1969 debut album, a record of such throbbingly feral loudness, rage, and inarticulate energy that it seemed like the sound of cavemen bashing upon logs. And yet the Stooges -- led by Ypsilanti, Michigan's own James Osterberg, better known to the world as Iggy Pop -- were both primitive and neo-primitivist simultaneously: maybe the first band whose garage-rock aesthetics were both authentic and also an intentional artistic proposition. Iggy Pop -- working with the Ashton brothers and later James Williamson -- sought to strip rock and roll to its rawest, most inchoate essentials, and succeeded so wildly that an entire subgenre of music reveres him as their founding father. And then, of course, there's his work with David Bowie in the late Seventies, where both men creatively resurrected themselves. Buckle up for a brisk roller-coaster of an episode, folks -- embrace your lust for life. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Episode 338 features singer and guitarist Jason Duncan from the band Cult Therapy. They are an indie rock band from Flint, Michigan. Jason grew up in a religious cult, where fear, shame, and guilt dictated every aspect of life. As an adult, Duncan is untangling the lessons of his upbringing, confronting the echoes of control, and carving out his own path to freedom. This messy, cathartic process—the extraordinary highs and profound lows—forms the raw, beating heart of Cult Therapy. It was a very in-depth and candid interview, and I certainly appreciate Jason sharing his experiences. I featured their song ‘Therapy and Drugs,' and if you like it, you can stream it wherever you listen to music. Find them on socials for their upcoming shows. In the early 1960s, one of the most unethical experiments in psychology's history was quietly conducted in a state hospital in Michigan. It sought to upend the delusions of the three patients involved, but ultimately disabused the experimenter of his own.
