Two things before we get started. 1. Sorry it's been a few weeks since our last episode. Things got in the way. 2. In this episode, we make reference to the MAC media member who always votes CMU to win its division even when nobody else did (like this year). Many knew it but it wasn't always spoken widely: the man who always did that was Don Chiodo. Chiodo, sadly, died Wednesday night (the day after we recorded this episode) in a car accident.  Our deepest thoughts go out to Chiodo's loved ones at this time.  *** It's MAC Championship week, and Saturday's big game will feature Miami and Central Michigan. It's not the final everybody predicted, but who could've guessed the season that 2019 turned out to be?   Note: We ran into a technical failure during the recording, but you'll know it when it's addressed. Because of that, we had to shorten this episode by nearly 10 minutes.  This was the regularly-scheduled weird week for the MAC, but at least we get our Tuesday and Wednesday night games back! Miami's defense kicked it up a notch or five and Matt Myers eventually had to leave the game because of the physicality. Eastern Michigan, of all teams, is the only team in the MAC with at least two wins in FBS play so far. It's still early, so we're still learning, but we've got reasons for optimism and pessimism around the conference regardless. The NFL Draft begins tonight! This year looks like there's plenty of talent out of the MAC to be drafted. First 'sode of the new year and we didn't forget to mention Akron this time! There wasn't much to talk about with Akron, but they still continue to exist as an idea. One of Akron's ideas is hiring a 27-year old as its defensive coordinator. Depending who you ask on the show, we're 27.  *gulp* There's some discussion about how we viewed the 2018 season and, even with the turnover around the league, it might get even better for 2019. It's been one hell of an end to the regular season and we haven't talked since the MAC title game. As it turns out, a lot can happen in three days. Of note, BG and CMU made pretty big hires in Scot Loeffler & Jim McElwain (!!!!!!!!!!!!!), respectively, Akron fires Terry Bowden and six MAC teams were picked to go bowling. That was quite the week of MACtion. Tuesday football finally came around with a high-scoring affair between Buffalo & Miami. The Bulls control its own destiny with the 51-42 win, a much-needed result to try and win the East.  Those efforts were followed up with Ohio absolutely demolishing WMU on the road, which has serious ripple effects for both divisions. This week's bound to be super butt, and that's mainly the cause of two factors: 1. There are two non-conference games happening in late October (Army at EMU, NIU at BYU).  2. Big news of the weekend: Mike Jinks has been fired from Bowling Green. No surprise there, that's a move seemed inevitable, but that wasn't until after Keishawn Watson picked up his own fumble inside the red zone and ran in for a touchdown. Buffalo's in the driver seat, but the Bulls are human. And Miami's got a good defense. Maybe it's time to re-think the optics of the MAC East? Ohio's loss at NIU certainly puts some things into perspective.  Over in the West, NIU's the unsexiest undefeated team in MAC play, but that's where we're at. Both divisions in the MAC are definitely something but we have no idea what any of this is supposed to mean. WMU's apparently a contender, EMU's apparently not, Miami is, Akron isn't?  Shouts out to Brad Koenig who caused an interception, received a different interception* and had a fumble recovery between four plays in the fourth quarter at Akron. Then, to wipe it right on Akron's face, Jordan Rigg scores a tuddy. Again.  *- lol sports officiating sometimes, i tell ya. And because of that, the MAC East is... funky. Sure, the West is having a unique race of its own, but it's just a blander version of the teams we were already talking about. But the East is just a mixed bag. But every nail-biting loss by Eastern Michigan is just more depressing than the last, and that's just what happened on Saturday, as one would expect. Week 1 was quite the unusual child; what a way to get things started. Kent State was impressive for all the right reasons and NIU surprised for all the wrong reasons. There were plenty of blowouts over FCS teams, but Ohio vs. Howard wasn't one of them.
