It's Women's History Month y'all and like always Black women have been saving the day and keeping us sane. In 2019 we want to look fly like Lena Waithe on Nylon Magazine , vibe like Solange Knowles in When I Get Home and demand to not be silenced like Senator Stephanie Flower. While the debate whether we should be Leaving Neverland or not continues one thing is for sure, when life seems to be spinning out of control and it feels like responsibilities are screaming in our face, we want to hold the same regality and unbothered spirit that Gayle The King displayed while interviewing R (Through Him In Jail) Kelly! God must have told her to Keep To That Old Rugged Cross cuz if it was us, I don’t know if we would have the range to sit through that tantrum. Whew! My Gawd We Stan!  We also had to give our Roses to the living Legend herself Grace Jones for that Iconic runway walk in Zendaya's new Collection with Tommy Hilfiger cuz Black Girls and Women are indeed Magical! Lastly we wanna ask did you get your Tickets to see Us The Movie when it premiers March 22nd, cuz we did and judging by these first reactions we are in for another Smash Hit from Jordan Peele that's gonna disturb our spirits and shake us to our core. Help us Lord!  As always we'd love your feedback! Leave us voicemail messages to add to the show on our Anchor App profile and/or sound off in the comments below! It's Women's History Month as well as National Developmental Disabilities Month. In today's episode we are featuring the 5th black women author who shares her journey around Faith, Miscarriage, Stillbirth, Infant and Pregnancy Loss, and Hope to continue on this grief journey. In today's epsiode we have LaTanya Sothern who shares her infant loss journey and journey with special needs son. Tiffany is the author of Victory Through the Rainbow: Living with Pregnancy and Infant Loss. This book chronicles 7 women's stories of heartbreak, healing, and hope as well as their testimonies of loss, both during and shortly after pregnancy. Celebrate their bravery as they seek to help remove the stigma of pregnancy and infant loss, and show other women how they can have victory in spite of these losses. During this interview with LaTanya and one of the book contributors Ms. Aviyah Forrest we find that we share loss and having a Special Needs child in common. Listen to both of these dynamic stories of having victory after loss. LaTanya S. Sothern has been an educator for over 20 years. She is a passionate supporter of families of children diagnosed with disabilities, and it is her mission to help them get services appropriate for their needs. A native Washingtonian, she holds a Bachelor of Arts in Public Communication and Economics from The American University and a Master of Arts in Teaching with a concentration in Early Childhood Education from Howard University. Wine for Normal People

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 14, 2017 84:58

Continuing the Women's History Month winemaker series, I speak with Marina Marcarino of Punset in Barbaresco, Italy. She is one of Italy's most respected and influential female winemakers. In the late 1980's, she ignored the norm and converted her family’s estate into a 100% certified organic vineyard. She is a kind, smart, savvy woman in wine and I learned so much from her about Barbaresco and organic farming -- you will too! Here are the show notes: We discuss Marina's childhood in Piemonte, the town of Alba and what it's really known for (hint: NUTELLA!) and why being a "bad baby" led her on a path to making organic wine. It's Women's History Month so we spend some time discussing her experiences as a woman in the wine industry and what it's like to raise a child and be a winemaker. We learn all about Barbaresco -- the difference with Barolo, the unique geographic features -- the Tanaro River, the consistent breezes, the differences between the diverse winemaking areas, and why the wines are so consistently good. We pivot to discuss farming and Marina's passion for organics. We discuss her philosophies, why she must do organic farming (or else no farming at all!) and why, despite being called "The Crazy", she has persevered and now has others following her lead. We tackle the importance of certification in organics and the difference between certifying a practice (organic) and a philosophy (biodynamic). Finally we discuss winemaking and Marina's goals to make her beautiful, wonderful wine. Marina gives advice to future female winemakers and we agree to meet in Italy someday soon (I love this lady!)! Here's where you can find the outstanding Punset wines in the US, Canada, and UK markets (use wine-searcher.com to see if it's available near you, if you live outside these countries): The US: http://www.wine-searcher.com/find/punset/1/usa  Canada: http://www.wine-searcher.com/find/punset/1/canada  The UK: http://www.bbr.com/producer-2695-punset-piedmont   And thanks to The Great Courses for sponsoring this episode.
