Send us a textWe kick things off with Chris Brown's shocking detention upon landing in Europe for a 2023 nightclub incident. But the real story here isn't just what happened—it's the catastrophic failure of his management team that allowed him to walk straight into a legal trap that could have been easily avoided. How does someone on that level of fame end up with such inadequate protection? We break down the implications and what it reveals about the often-chaotic inner workings of celebrity entourages. The conversation shifts to the increasingly messy custody battle between DDG and Hailey Bailey, exploring how social media has created an environment where complex relationship dynamics get flattened into simplistic villain/victim narratives. We challenge listeners to question the reflexive pile-ons that happen when only one side of a story dominates the conversation. The first week of Diddy's trial, where bombshell testimony has implicated numerous celebrities and revealed disturbing allegations. While acknowledging the seriousness of domestic violence charges, we examine the credibility challenges in this high-profile racketeering case and what it might mean for the music industry at large. We lighten the mood with a creative exercise reimagining "The Incredibles" with a predominantly Black cast, featuring fantasy selections like Terry Crews, Tracee Ellis Ross, and other perfect fits for the iconic superhero family. My good friend, Mira Monique stops returns to talk about how practicing “radical acceptance” of certain aspects of her life is benefitting her mental, spiritual and physical wellness. During this episode, we talk about Tracee Ellis Ross's recent comments about dating younger men because she finds that many of the men her own age are rigid in their views of masculinity. Mira also talks about the importance of eating nutrient-dense foods and lifting weights as she navigates through her 40s.
Welcome back to another episode of The Haute Guide! In this episode, I'm diving deep into the 2025 Met Gala, unpacking this year's compelling theme: "Superfine", inspired by Monica Miller's exploration of Black dandyism. Join me as I candidly break down the hits, misses, and everything in between on fashion's biggest night. Here's what's inside: My honest thoughts on who beautifully embodied the "Superfine" theme—including Janelle Monae's stunning "time traveler" concept, Tracee Ellis Ross's bold historical homage, and André 3000's brilliant nod to traveling musicians. The styling missteps that left me scratching my head: Zendaya's unexpected duplicate look and Megan Thee Stallion's disappointing Michael Kors dress. A personal glimpse into my own "Superfine" look for a Met Gala viewing party at the Ritz Carlton, complete with a custom floor-length durag, embracing Black dandyism with my unique twist. Reflections on how the fashion industry at large missed a prime opportunity to truly honor and elevate Black culture, creativity, and historical significance. Plus, I'm sharing a heartfelt update about my recent health journey, why I've been away from fashion events, and how this Met Gala reignited my passion and purpose. Key Moments: Best Dressed Spotlight: Janelle Monae, Tracee Ellis Ross, Tessa Thompson, Ava DuVernay, Kerry Washington. Critical Takeaways: Why Law Roach dropped the ball with Zendaya, and how Megan Thee Stallion and Coco Jones missed opportunities to solidify their personal brands. Personal Connection: The deeper meaning behind my own dandy-inspired look and how it marked my return to the fashion scene. Then the pod goes completely off the rails as Mal reads the lyrics to Ye's new track "Cousins", Rory reads leaked text messages from the Shannon Sharpe sexual assault lawsuit, and a voicemail sparks a debate on whether or not a man giving oral to a woman without receiving a favor back is sucka behavior. #volumeSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Episode 84 of You Might Wanna Sit Down for This kicks off with some classic group banter, as Trivelle states that DJXP is “enamoured by women.” That lighthearted moment leads to a deeper conversation about the type of men who claim not to like women, yet still rely on them for what they provide...while asking the question "Did those women really go to space?" The discussion then segues into Tracee Ellis Ross's viral comments on Michelle Obama and her brother's podcast, where she opens up about preferring to date younger men over older ones. The group explores the potential double standard when those preferences are flipped, along with other dating quirks and oddities—like Martha Stewart's takes on romance, Damon Wayans allegedly dating his nephew's girlfriend, and more stories that dive into the dynamics of dating, marriage, and power distribution in relationships. Coachella gets some love next, with highlights from Missy Elliott and T-Pain. The crew reflects on the longevity of their careers, which have spanned decades since they first dropped music in the '90s and 2000s. That leads to a fun segment on Mandela Effects in music—think lyrics you thought you knew from tracks like “All I Do Is Win,” Lloyd's “I Want You,” and Usher's “Nice and Slow.” Next up: the government-mandated Drake segment. The team reacts to Nokia jumping to #2 on the Billboard charts and the reported legal threat from UMG, possibly tied to the recent diss track drama. They touch on the rumored $250 million settlement and break down what Drake would realistically see from that number based on his contributions to the biggest label and market share holder in the industry. With the NBA playoffs officially underway, the crew reacts to Paul Pierce's spicy comments about what it would mean if Steph Curry wins another ring during “The LeBron Era.” They dive into first-round matchups and what to expect from the postseason—with some bold predictions from Trivelle on who might shake things up. To wrap things up, they debate the viral “Mount Rushmore” artist lists floating around—covering categories like New York Hip-Hop, ATL Hip-Hop, and their own takes on what those lists might look like for Afrobeats and Dancehall. Things heat up quickly as Vybz Kartel and Sean Paul's legacies come into focus in the battle for dancehall supremacy.

Hey Tribe! On this episode of The Sophisticatedly Ratchet Podcast, we're diving headfirst into one of life's biggest decisions—to have kids or not? The Tribe breaks down the raw realities of parenthood, the freedom of a child-free life, and the societal pressures that come with both choices. From birth control mishaps to the deep-seated judgment toward people without kids, we're keeping it all the way real. We explore whether having children is truly fulfilling or just an expectation, how career and mental health are impacted by parenting, and the importance of a solid support system when raising kids. And of course, we have to ask—are kids really the ultimate motivation in life, or is that just what society wants us to believe? Things get even spicier as we debate whether society unfairly judges parents based on their kids' behavior, discuss high-profile cases like the Menendez brothers, and tackle the age-old question: Does having children affect your dating life? Plus, the team shares personal deal-breakers when it comes to picking a co-parent and what financial stability should look like before bringing a little one into the world. Whether you're a proud parent, thinking about kids, or happily child-free, this episode is packed with unfiltered opinions, hilarious takes, and deep reflections on one of the most personal decisions you'll ever make. American Fiction is a 2023 American comedy-drama film written and directed by Cord Jefferson, in his feature directorial debut. Based on the 2001 novel Erasure by Percival Everett, it follows a frustrated novelist-professor who writes an outlandish satire of stereotypical "black" books, only for it to be mistaken by the liberal elite for serious literature and published to both high sales and critical praise. It stars Jeffrey Wright, Tracee Ellis Ross, Issa Rae, Sterling K. Brown, John Ortiz, Erika Alexander, Leslie Uggams, Adam Brody, and Keith David.

A so-called Reverend, Ryk Brown, of St. James' Waterdown Church, pretends that Jesus Christ loved slavery and derided women.Episode Links:Democrats: “We want a $25 federal minimum wage.” Democrat mom: “Let me use my 12-year-old son to explain why we need illegals—to pay them below minimum wage.”Oprah finally explains the controversial $1 million Kamala Harris feeThe full price tag of Kamala Harris' town hall event with Oprah was $2.5M, not $1M like initially reported, according to the Daily BeastNice to see all the usual dirtbags congregating around Oprah and Comrade Kamala tonight‼️ Bryan Cranston, Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lopez, Julia Roberts, Chris Rock, JLo, Tracee Ellis Ross and Ben Stiller.Kamala is incapable of answering a question and after 3 minutes of nonsense Oprah had to save her."Rev." Imani Ellis is the founder and CEO of The Creative Collective and CultureCon. Imani studied communications in college and soon after began her career as an NBC Page at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City. After just two months, she was plucked from the program for a job in communications at Bravo. She spent the next few years at NBCUniversal, rising through the ranks, but she craved a more authentic connection and collaboration. In 2016, she founded The Creative Collective from her living room. What started as a weekly gathering for Black and Brown creatives quickly outgrew her apartment, as Imani realized there was a real need for these spaces. In 2017, she created CultureCon, a conference that brought together Black and Brown voices to collaborate and celebrate each other. Over the next few years, she scaled CultureCon considerably by moving to larger venues; inviting guests such as Tracee Ellis Ross and Regina King; and working with brands like Target, Google, HBO, and Netflix. In 2022, she left NBCUniversal, where she'd risen to VP of communications, unscripted entertainment publicity, to pursue her projects full-time. This year's CultureCon, presented in partnership with Max, wrapped up just this past weekend.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
