Can dogs that have been bred to fight in illegal dog fighting be re-integrated back into society? How can you stop an approaching aggressive dog?If you or someone you know has been struggling after a dog attack, check out the American Psychological Association's website for tips on helping someone who's struggling, or you can find a licensed therapist through Psychology Today. If you have an aggressive dog, you may want to seek help from a veterinary behaviorist. We had the pleasure of speaking with retired police officer and the world's leading fatal dog attack expert, Jim Crosby. He has a Master's degree in Veterinary Forensics from the University of Florida, and is currently working on a PhD studying fatal dog attacks. He also wrote the newest U.S. Dept. of Justice curriculum on police-dog encounters so officers can respond to calls with aggressive dogs and not have to take physical action. How common are human deaths from dogs? What happens to a dog that's bitten or killed someone? How can you spot signs of aggression in your dog or another dog? Find out the answers to those questions and more in Part 1 of our interview with Jim!You can find Part 2 of our interview with Jim on our Patreon right now at the $5 or $15 level, otherwise you can find it on our regular feed next week! Next week we answer - are certain breeds more responsible for attacks? We decided not to cover our own story at the beginning like we usually do because we felt that most people who own dogs or know people who own dogs have heard of dog attack stories or have unfortunately been a victim in a dog attack. If you or someone you know has been struggling after a dog attack, check out the American Psychological Association's website for tips on helping someone who's struggling, or you can find a licensed therapist through Psychology Today.
