Section 133 received Nov 3, 1831 in Hiram Ohio Historical background - By November, 1831, Joseph had compiled many of the Lord's revelations which would eventually become a Book of Commandments, later known as the Doctrine and Covenants. On November 1, 1831, the Lord revealed a “Proclamation” to the world which became the preface to the Book of Commandments, or section 1. Two days later, on November 3, 1831, the Lord revealed an appendix to the Book of Commandments, or section 133 which is a prophetic declaration of what must occur prior to the second coming of Christ.   Recap: Christ will appear suddenly in his temple. The saints must flee from Babylon and gather in Zion. Christ will stand on Mount Zion with his 144,000. The continents will become one land and the lost ten tribes will return. The gospel will be preached worldwide. Christ will appear in red apparel. The righteous shall be resurrected and the New Jerusalem will be established while the wicked will be destroyed by fire. Section 134 declared and adopted Aug 17, 1835 in Kirtland Ohio Historical Background – On August 17, 1835, the church held a conference in Kirtland, Ohio to accept the Book of Commandments as scriptural revelations from God. Also, due to the political turmoil and abuses of power, especially the disregarding of constitutional rights and privileges that should have been afforded the saints, it was felt necessary that a statement of beliefs in Governmental laws should be included in the Book of Commandments. Joseph Smith was in Canada at this time and was not present at the conference. Therefore, Oliver Cowdery wrote section 134 outlining the role and purposes of earthly government. This was presented to the saints and it was accepted to be included in the Book of Commandments but as a declaration and not a revelation. When Joseph returned and reviewed the document, he allowed it to stand as is because the saints had already voted their approval during the conference. Recap: Governments are instituted by God for the benefits of mankind and should preserve freedom, protect rights, life and property. Laws should be administered fairly and equally. The people are bound to obedience to the laws of the land. Punishments should be made according to the nature of the crime.

Crystal Rivers | Word for Now | Nov 3, 2025 Let your mind be renewed until you can test and prove God's good, acceptable, and perfect will in real time. Read Scripture like a map of “holy hyperlinks”: when you see patterns (120 in the upper room; the cloud that filled the tabernacle and temple; the smoke that fills the temple in Revelation 15), grasp the message—when God's glory (His light) fills His house, reality is revealed. That revealing is what Scripture calls “wrath”: not God lashing out, but light exposing and undoing whatever partners with death. Treat sin like cancer—small mutations that look harmless until they consume; do not negotiate with it. Refuse the world's narratives that keep the “old man” animated; walk by the light of what God says of you in Christ. Go deeper: how to live this now • Rule your inputs. Curate what you watch, read, and repeat. Your “inner light” is shaped by your daily feed. Replace doom-scroll with Word-scroll. • Daily exchange. Morning and night: (1) confess what's false, (2) declare what's true “in Christ,” (3) take one concrete action within 24 hours that agrees with truth. • Short accounts. Repent fast, forgive fast, reconcile fast. Don't sleep with accusation in your mouth or offense in your heart. • Welcome exposure. Ask trusted believers to lovingly confront blind spots. Treat reproof as mercy, not shame. • Train imagination. Meditate until you see yourself acting like Jesus in specific pressures—then go do it. • Fast strategically. Use food, media, and comfort fasts to break agreement with “old-man” reflexes. Pair every fast with extra Word and prayer. • Pray for light, not ease. Ask for illumination that makes sin impossible to hide and obedience easy to choose. • Practice generosity. Give time, honor, and money where it costs you. It starves pride and feeds love. Reading numbers as hyperlinks (so symbols serve obedience) • 12 → Governmental maturity (tribes/apostles). • 10 → Testing/completeness of order. • 100 → Fullness/fruitfulness. • 120 → Priestly fullness unto glory (echoing the trumpeting priests). • 144,000 → A picture of completeness multiplied (mature, sealed people across tribes), pointing to a people formed into Christ, not mere headcount. Use symbols to aim your life: pursue maturity, tested obedience, fruit that remains, priestly worship, and sealed allegiance. Discernment drills (5 minutes each) 1. Light Check: “What am I believing right now? Does it agree with the Word or with fear/pride?” Replace the lie with a verse and an action. 2. Speech Guard: Before replying, ask: “Will these words sow light or feed death?” If neutral or dark, wait. 3. Peace Barometer: If peace drops, trace the last agreement you made (thought, word, click). Break it; agree with truth again. 4. Mercy Reflex: When someone fails, act in the opposite spirit within one hour: bless, cover, help. 5. Hidden Yes: Do one obedient act daily that only God sees. It trains you for a glory-filled temple where flesh cannot posture. Community rhythms that make holiness feel like love • Confession before communion. Normalize brief, specific confession and prayer before worship. • Testimony of exposure → restoration. Celebrate stories where light revealed sin and produced healing. • Prophetic with process. Words that expose should come with a path to restore (scripture, steps, accountability, time frame). • Hospitality as warfare. Open tables dismantle isolation, bitterness, and secret agreements with darkness. Pitfalls to refuse • Spectator faith. Consuming teachings without practicing them calcifies the heart. • Cynicism disguised as discernment. Testing everything is biblical; scorning everything is unbelief. • End-times fear. Revelation's aim is loyalty and hope, not panic. Read for the glory outcome. • Selective obedience. Partial yes is a slow no; it keeps the “old man” on life support. A simple daily liturgy (10 minutes) 1. Present: “Lord, I present my body a living sacrifice.” 2. Renew: Read a short passage; speak one sentence of obedience you'll do today. 3. Renounce: Name any lie/accusation; replace it with truth out loud. 4. Request: “Flood my heart with light. Make exposure my friend and love my reflex.” 5. Release: Bless an enemy, a rival, or a critic by name. Lean into that future now—detox from worldliness, fast and pray, saturate your imagination with the Word, stay tender and quick to repent, forgive before you feel it, welcome loving correction, and build communities where prophetic clarity, humility, and mercy make compromise impossible. Search out what God has hidden for you (not from you): the unsearchable riches of Christ will meet you as you seek. Live like a king who searches matters out; love like a bride who reads the romance in every parable; and let your daily choices agree with the light you intend to live by. How have young people in rural areas of the Democratic Republic of Congo invented new forms of radicalism in response to the impact of new flows of foreign investment and the inability of normal national and international politics to serve their needs and interests? Zachariah Mampilly explains how rural and urban spaces have seen a complex transit of peoples and funds that complicate politics, and emergent forms of radical activism have taken root and spread in many African countries. These forms display important re-imaginings of power sharing and revolutionary praxis.Zachariah Mampilly is the Marxe Endowed Chair of International Affairs at the Marxe School of Public and International Affairs, CUNY and a member of the doctoral faculty in the Department of Political Science at the Graduate Center, CUNY. As governments around the world expand their surveillance capabilities, strong encryption remains a cornerstone for protecting personal privacy, securing business data, and preserving digital rights. For consumers, it guards against identity theft and intrusive monitoring; for businesses, it protects intellectual property and builds trust across global markets. Yet, as governmental pressure to weaken encryption intensifies, critical questions arise: How do we preserve strong encryption standards while addressing legitimate security concerns? Can privacy, innovation, and human rights truly coexist with national security imperatives? And how do we resist the false choice between security and privacy that authoritarian regimes often present? At the Technology Policy Institute's 2025 Aspen Forum, Shane Tews moderated a panel titled Privacy and Governmental Surveillance with Jeff Greene, Jim Kohlenberger, and Jennifer Huddleston as panelists. Together, they discussed how artificial intelligence is highlighting cybersecurity and privacy concerns and raising tough questions about governmental surveillance.

How do you fully understand and explain the work of Jesus on the cross? In this episode, Alex and Scott explore the doctrine of the atonement, focusing on the concept of Penal Substitutionary Atonement (PSA) and contrasting it with other historical and theological views. The discussion walks through various atonement theories—including the Moral Influence, Ransom, and Christus Victor views and more—acknowledging elements of truth in each while highlighting their limitations compared to PSA. Lastly, they discuss the missiological implications, countering the claim that PSA is purely a Western, legalistic construct. Instead, they stress that guilt and innocence are universal moral realities recognized across cultures, and missionaries should faithfully present the biblical doctrine while adapting metaphors and illustrations for local understanding. Key Topics Importance of understanding the atonement for cross-cultural missions. Overview of major atonement theories: Moral Influence, Ransom, Christus Victor, Satisfaction, Governmental, and Scapegoat. Strengths and weaknesses of each theory compared to Penal Substitutionary Atonement (PSA). Scriptural foundations for PSA and its theological depth. Addressing the critiques of PSA. Pharmaceutical companies are among the most maligned companies in America. BIG PHARMA are the constant and consistent targets of lawyers, sarcastically termed “ambulance chasers.” One bad incident can result in lawsuits which may produce tens of millions of dollars in damages. But, every day, these companies produce and provide lifesaving, life-extending, life-transforming therapies to millions upon millions in the United States and, of course, around the world. I wonder how many people would die tomorrow without the drugs produced by BIG PHARMA which keep them alive. Some experts indicate that every single American citizen, old and young, has been the beneficiary of a drug, or takes one on a regular basis. I wonder, has your body been the recipient of a drug, or does it take on now sporadically or on a regular basis? Or, in a life-saving moment, have you been the very fortunate recipient of a life-saving drug produced by BIG PHARMA. Have you?No matter, the relentless assault on pharmaceutical companies goes on. Some of the criticism and cry for control by the government is justified, and most of it, NOT JUSTIFIED. There are federal agencies like the FDA, a governmental watch dog, presumably protecting the people, protecting WE THE PEOPLE, making certain that only safe and effective drugs reach the market. But, because of the vilification of BIG PHARMA, regulators at the federal level are often hesitant in granting permission for a drug to be marketed, no matter its lifesaving or life-extending capabilities. The constant delay, testing, examinations of all kinds, no matter how necessary, add significantly to the cost of the drug when you and I purchase it.In many cases, politicians do the most harm. Their incendiary rhetoric corrupts public understanding, and in some cases, stokes outright hatred. Governmental policies make it far easier for BIG PHARMA to be sued for the very slightest matter. Huge judgements occur, and the cost of the drug goes up, or even in some extreme cases, off the market entirely. When that happens, there comes the hue and cry from the public for price controls, firmer and stronger regulations against BIG PHARMA, and the relaxation of protections for pricing, and especially PATENTS, which protect the drugs against competition for any number of years. Then there arises the public climber for GENERIC DRUGS which WE THE PEOPLE believe will have the very same beneficial effects for a lower price. In the favor of BIG PHARMA, these often-incredible drugs are born out of some of the world's most INGENIOUS INNOVATION AND IMAGINATION. The minds, brilliant minds, of the scientists who make these drugs happen are rare commodities on this Earth. Months and years are devoted to research testing, trial and error, before a drug is presented to federal regulators for approval with the request for marketing to the needy patients of the world. The scientists in BIG PHARMA work for the cures of the most horrendous diseases (i.e. Alzheimer's) investing tens of millions of dollars in such research, with no guarantee that investment will be returned, much less make a profit. Politicians and lawyers are determined that they will NOT!When, my fellow Americans, was the last time you were given a drug which saved your life, extended it, or cured a condition, small or large, and without which, your life may have been ended or permanently riddled with pain? Do you take the products of BIG PHARMA, the drugs, any of them on a regular basis, to save your life, or improve the quality of that life, do you? And if you do, are you grateful, thankful, for the men and women who invested tens of thousands of hours and dollars to make that drug and make your life better? No operation of any kind can occur without drugs, none. Whether anesthesia, or some other, no operation would be safe or curative. Instead of chastising BIG PHARMA, perhaps WE THE PEOPLE, the blessed recipients of these drugs, should give thanks to them and hope and pray they continue their absolutely necessary work in research and development (R&D).Let us hope and pray BIG PHARMA continues to invest, recruit the most brilliant scientific minds, motivates the innovators to give their lives in the search for new medicines and cures for the benefit of all humankind, in America and worldwide. Imagine for one minute what America, the world, or even your life would be like if there were no drugs available. That includes the most expensive to the very simple Aspirin, drugs produced from years of costly investment on the one hand, and over the counter on the other. To be sure, on occasion, there is greed, overpricing, and some marketing unfairness which may exist. But, those circumstances are rare, infrequent, can easily be detected, and just recompense delivered. Innovation is incredibly expensive, as is real, creative research and testing, INCREDIBLY EXPENSIVE! If there is not fair payment for those services or a profitable return on investment, those innovative minds which provide us, WE THE PEOPLE, with the drugs that extend, save, or improve the quality of our lives, will spend their innovative lives in other industries. Even scripture tells us that no one builds a tower (develops a new drug) without considering the cost thereof and at the bottom line, that workman (BIG PHARMA and its innovative people) is entitled to the real value, the fair and profitable wage and return, on the products produced. So, my fellow Americans, what would your life be like if you had never had the benefit of a drug produced by BIG PHARMA? Would your life be the same, or would you even have life at this point in time? Governmental controls, pricing, and regulations would do nothing but destroy innovation, drive away the very best scientists, and allow the constant assault of diseases, old and new, to rule the day. Do not let that happen. We must, somehow, find the way to thank and encourage BIG PHARMA on the one hand, and on the other, provide these drugs to those who so desperately need them. I, for one, believe OUR GREAT PHYSICIAN would so have it, our Lord Himself, even more so than the innovators He has given us.

What if there was a better way than war? The OG GOAT delivers a passionate critique of American foreign policy that will make you question everything you thought you knew about our international involvement. The United States stands at a crossroads, pouring billions into foreign conflicts while our domestic needs go unaddressed. Drawing particular attention to the war in Ukraine, where American financial support has potentially approached $200 billion, this episode examines whether our resources could be better allocated. The host proposes a thought-provoking alternative: could diplomatic solutions, including potential protection agreements, have prevented the senseless loss of innocent lives? At the heart of this discussion lies a fundamental question about American values and consistency. We negotiate fairly in business transactions at home, yet resort to military intervention abroad. With each administration seeking to outdo its predecessor, our foreign policy lacks the coherence needed for effective global relations. This constant political turnover creates a nation "lost in its own governmental structure," unable to develop sustainable approaches to international challenges. This isn't just about politics—it's about human lives. Behind every conflict statistic are real people, including children and civilians, caught in the crossfire of geopolitical power struggles. The OG GOAT challenges listeners to consider whether America's brightest minds could develop more compassionate, effective solutions to secure resources and maintain international relationships without the devastating human cost of war. Top takeaways: Many of the limits are state-specific. Figure out what someone in this situation would need an emergency fund for–it might be fewer things than you think. Do not think of “savings” as a monolith–each individual problem should be tackled individually. ABLE accounts are similar to retirement accounts except that they're for disabled people and their families to be able to pay for specific expenses. Sovereign Immunity Uncovered: The Government's Legal Shield (Part 2 of 2)

Law School

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 3, 2025 20:41

Main Themes and Important Ideas:1. Definition and Core Principle:Sovereign immunity is a legal doctrine stating that the state (or sovereign) cannot be sued without its consent. It is rooted in the historical maxim "the king can do no wrong," reflecting the idea of the sovereign's immunity from legal liability in their own courts. The doctrine has evolved from its absolute form to a more nuanced concept in modern legal systems.Quote: "Sovereign immunity is a legal doctrine that essentially holds that the state—or, more generally, the sovereign—cannot be sued without its consent."2. Historical Origins:The doctrine originates in the English common law system, where the monarch was seen as the personification of the state and immune from suit. This foundational belief has significantly influenced the development of state immunity in many jurisdictions. The evolution of democratic governments has led to a re-examination and limitation of the absolute form of sovereign immunity.Quote: "Historically, the monarch was seen as the personification of the state, and because it was considered improper to subject the sovereign to the ordinary legal process, no one could sue him."3. Doctrinal Foundations:The doctrine operates on two central principles: non-liability (the government is immune unless it waives immunity) and consent (the government can choose to be subject to its legal system).Governmental accountability in modern society necessitates the possibility of voluntary waiver of immunity.Quote: "At its heart, the doctrine operates on two central principles: the idea of non-liability and the concept of consent."4. Constitutional Underpinnings (U.S. Context):The U.S. Constitution, particularly the Eleventh Amendment, plays a pivotal role. The Eleventh Amendment generally prevents citizens from suing a state in federal court without the state's consent, overruling Chisholm v. Georgia. The Supreme Court has broadly interpreted the Eleventh Amendment to reinforce state sovereign immunity. This immunity is not absolute; exceptions exist where states consent or Congress validly abrogates immunity.Quote: "Ratified in the wake of the landmark case of Chisholm v. Georgia, the Eleventh Amendment essentially overruled the ability of citizens to sue a state in federal court without the state's consent."5. Key Case Law:Cases like Hans v. Louisiana reaffirmed state immunity from suits in federal court by citizens of another state or foreign citizens without consent.Case law has refined the understanding of valid waivers, what constitutes "consent," and how to balance immunity with individual rights. These cases highlight the dynamic tension between immunity and accountability.6. Practical Implications in Litigation:Understanding sovereign immunity is paramount for attorneys involved in lawsuits against the government. It can act as a shield for governmental entities, protecting them from disruptive or resource-straining claims. It can also leave injured parties without a remedy. The first step for a plaintiff is often determining if immunity applies and whether it has been waived.Quote: "For attorneys practicing in this field, understanding sovereign immunity is paramount because it affects the strategies employed in bringing or defending lawsuits against the government."7. Waiver of Sovereign Immunity:Governments can consent to be sued through waiver, which can be express (e.g., in statutes like tort claims acts or contracts) or implied (e.g., through commercial activity). When a government operates in the marketplace like a private entity, courts may find an implied waiver.Understanding the nuances of waiver is crucial for determining the viability of a lawsuit against the government.Quote: "Waiver is the mechanism by which a government entity consents to be sued, effectively setting aside its sovereign immunity. This can occur either expressly or impliedly."8. Debates on Scope and Fairness:Proponents argue immunity is e

The crew transitions into the release of JFK files, highlighting the disappointment that no conclusive “smoking gun” was revealed, despite Rep. Paulina Luna claiming NBC has unseen Oswald footage. [00:10:00] - Speculation about the hidden Oswald footage continues. Talk turns to media cover-ups, the CIA's possible involvement, and the suppression of controversial stories like Epstein. Then, the show pivots to bizarre headlines about robot dogs, AI homes, and MIT's proposal to use ethically-sourced human bodies in medical research. [00:20:00] - The gang dives deep into the implications of lab-grown human bodies without minds—used for organ harvesting or testing. They joke about AI-human hybrids, but note the serious ethical red flags. References are made to China's organ industry and the elite's likely monopolization of such tech. [00:30:00] - Continued discussion on "empty vessels" and the MIT article suggesting artificial wombs and AI integration. The idea of using cloned human shells without brains is dissected. Hosts mockingly suggest using these shells as “defective products” with customer complaints. [00:40:00] - A strange true crime case is explored: Peter Bergmann, a man who meticulously erased his identity before dying mysteriously on an Irish beach. The situation mirrors Missing 411 cases—neatly folded clothes, strange behavior, water nearby—sparking theories about his intent and identity. [00:50:00] - Theories swirl around Bergmann's story: Was he terminally ill, a spy, or something else? Mike credits a Discord user for the tip. Then Joe shares a revelation: he's come around on ancient pyramid theories and now believes in advanced prehistory and lost civilizations. [01:00:00] - Comedy breaks enter with a satirical AI ad about the “George Droid,” packed with racial and corporate parody. They analyze how bizarre and well-produced these AI skits are becoming, connecting it to past stories like Hasidic Jews digging tunnels under a building in NY. [01:10:00] - A political segment mocks Biden's speech flubs and contrasts them with more articulate figures. The gang talks Tesla's Democrat-heavy user base, leftist protests, and a satire piece on the Department of Imaginary Concerns by Scott Adams. Governmental overreach and absurdity are recurring themes. [01:20:00] - Signal's possible compromise sparks a chat about surveillance and government setups. They vent over bureaucratic waste, citing fraud and COVID relief abuse. Gavin Newsom's home repair regulations are mocked to highlight nonsensical red tape and overregulation. [01:30:00] - They unpack global population data, suggesting billions may be uncounted. The inaccuracy of rural census data is criticized, and theories emerge about shadow populations and manipulated demographics. They mention satellite and mobile data as better population estimators. [01:40:00] - A wild story out of New Jersey breaks: a police chief accused of disturbing workplace pranks, including spiking coffee with Viagra, setting off firecrackers, exposing himself, and jabbing an officer with a needle. The crew debates the difference between pranks and criminal acts. [01:50:00] - Another quirky tale: A Ford executive kept a 15-year-long spreadsheet of coworkers' malapropisms and linguistic flubs, turning it into a leaderboard of grammar fails. They laugh at some of the worst offenses like “reinvent the ocean” and “broken drum.” It's the nerdiest kind of office drama. [02:00:00] - The show wraps up with musings on civil war hysteria, AI integration into society, and weird AI-assisted ramblings about eastern medicine. They joke about penis scandals, secret cybernetic creations, and speculate on how medicine and society are morphing in dystopian ways. And that it will be a time of suffering that the world has never known before - or will ever know again. Only those who have been “born again” of the Spirit of the Living God will escapethis Righteous Judgment of the Lord God Almighty that will come upon the unbelieving of the world who rejected the love of the Truth so as to be saved. In this message, we expose the deceptive strategies the enemy is employing to lead as many as he can into his “One World” Religious deception – and most importantly how to be guaranteed freedom from his web of deception and ushered into Eternal Life in Jesus Christ the Lord!Support the showVisit our website: https://agapelightministries.com/

This Flashback Friday is from episode 262, published last June 9, 2012. Countries around the globe are teetering on the brink of bankruptcy, with our own country no exception. Jason Hartman interviews Dr. Kirk Elliot, Ph.D., investment adviser with ICA, on monetary and fiscal policy and the irresponsibility of governments around the world. Using Greece as an example, Dr. Elliott states that when governments run out of money, they start doing crazy things. The one fundamental issue in Greece is public debt, over which they lost their autonomy and are now under the rules of the EU. Italy, Iceland, Portugal, France and others are on the verge of bankruptcy and due to that, the EU has been unable to bail out Greece. Across the pond in the U.S., we have lost our credit rating and are losing the reserve currency status with a lack of interest in our Treasury bills and notes. The definition of inflation is an increase in the money supply, and price increases are a symptom of inflation. As more money is printed, it loses value and nobody wants it, which is sending the U.S. down the same tube as other countries in economic crisis. People around the world have lost faith in the U.S. dollar and the country's ability to repay its debt. Dr. Elliott says when interest rates go up, it will open a whole new can of worms with the bond market, which will come crashing down hard on retirees and insurance companies. But it's not all doom and gloom. There are counter-cyclical investment strategies that people should take advantage of that are attached to physical assets, such as precious metals and real estate investments (commodities with universal need.) Kirk Elliott has been an investment adviser with ICA in Durango, Colorado since January of 2002 and has been working in the financial services industry since 1994. Dr. Elliott is passionate about educating and equipping his clients with the information they need to safeguard their hard-earned assets. Dr. Elliott earned his Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration from Walden University. Prioritizing factors other than qualifications may lead to less competent individuals in crucial roles, weakening institutions and slowing advancement.——However, Additionally, implementing tariffs against major consumers can trigger retaliatory measures, harming domestic industries reliant on exports. Such actions disrupt established trade relationships, potentially leading to economic instability and reduced global competitiveness. In a Wall Street Journal op-ed, Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy discuss details of their plans to eliminate some governmental rules along with many federal workers. As part of the Department of Governmental, Efficiency, the pair will be outside volunteers overseeing a staff of “small government crusaders.” They are looking to make administrative and regulatory cuts and save money. The plan is to “identify rules that exceed the authority Congress granted agencies.” They'll run it past lawyers and then present it to Trump who will be able to take executive action. If regulations are cut, the staff working in those areas will likely be unnecessary. Team DOGE will be whittling agencies down to the minimum number required to perform legal and constitutional duties. Those workers who lose jobs will not be saved by civil service protections, according to Musk and Ramaswamy as cuts would fall under a “reduction in force.” We will discuss it with political analyst and journalist, Michael Shure. We'll also ask him what he thinks about Pam Bondi, Trump‘s new candidate to be the US Attorney General. We'll swing by Florida to see what those crazy kids are up to. Get ready to pick your favorite story of Friday Fabulous Florida. It's a big weekend at the movies. Gladiator 2 and Wicked are on the big screens. We will find out if either are worth your time or money. The Culture Blaster, Michael Snyder, brings his critical eye.
