Remember you must re-enter each month to be eligible to win. Cigar of the Week - Esencia Petite Corona 5 1/8 x 42 Filler: Nicaragua Binder: Nicaragua Wrapper: Nicaragua Origin: Honduras What else have you been smokin' Dale? Padilla La Terraza Capa Habano Serie 2010 - 6” x 52 - Nicarugua Puro with a beautiful Habano variety wrapper that is oily & toothy. Finished with a well done triple cap and dressed in a double band. Coffee, cream and leather are the core flavors, and they’re balanced with an exotic spice that builds from foot to head. As the cigar finishes, dark coffee and those cinnamon and nutmeg spices dominate. Full bodied and medium strength - a great late night cigar that pairs well with Highland Scotch. The La Terraza name comes from the Cuban restaurant made famous by visits from Hemingway. Leon Jimenes #4 - 5.625” x 42 - Dominican filler & binder covered in a delicate Connecticut shade wrapper. Made at La Auroro since 1987, this is an “old school” Dominican style cigar with mild levels of flavor intensity, medium bodied smoke and outstanding floral room aromas. Cedar, sweet grass and light coffee flavors with a touch of almond nuttiness. Augusto Reyes Nativo Toro - 6.2” x 54 - A complex blend of Dominican Piloto Cubano, Olor and Criollo wrapped in a Criollo ‘98 leaf that is beautifully fermented to a dark maduro and almost dripping with oils. Toasted breadiness, cedar and mocha flavors that are bold and balanced. Sweetness appears at the end of the first ⅓ that is like toffee. Quite full bodied and a long, deep finish. Oliva Serie G “special G” - 3.7” x 48 - A silky Cameroon wrapper over Nicaraguan tobaccos in a short & sweet size that is perfect for a mid-day break. A medium bodied cigar with light coffee & cedar flavors, topped with spice, nuts and some light sweetness from the Cameroon leaf. What else have you been smokin' Bob? Kristoff Sumatra, Churchill - medium bodied cigar with velvety floral notes, spice, cinnamon and a smooth sweet finish. Wrapper: Ecuadorian Sumatra Binder: Brazilian Filler: Cuban Seed Dominican, Cuban Seed Nicaraguan Kristoff Sumatra Robusto 5.5 x 54 Kristoff Sumatra Matador 6.5 x 56 Kristoff Sumatra Torpedo 6.25 x 52 Kristoff Sumatra Churchill 7 x 50 CAIN Straight Ligero Habano - Slight saltiness on the tongue distinguishes this blend from its brothers in the CAIN line up. Bitter almond on the retro-hale and full flavors of coffee and expresso in a smooth dark package. This really is one of my favorite CAIN cigars that goes especially well with coffee or raspberry tea. Twenty five percent Esteli Ligero Twenty seven percent Condega Ligero Thirty percent Jalapa Ligero Nicaraguan Habano wrapper, triple fermented filler Ortega Serie D No 6 What's My Band?- This week's unbanded, the Black Patch Classic Robusto 4.75x48 was suggested by Jon French. Bob's review: Sat down with a glass of Sans Soucy Vineyards Reserve Traminette, a white wine from Virginia. The cigar gave me a decided prelight aroma of chocolate. It was a slightly refined aroma of barnyard that reminded me more of chocolate. The wrapper is a light brown or dark natural color, slightly mottled. The cigar flavors seemed to dance in my mouth and really took the edge off the natural bitterness of the Traminette. The cigar could have been bolder to really exploit the wine. However, the cigar flavors were tannic with traces of leather and oak. The retrohale was nutty and only slightly sharp. Grassy flavor came in after the first third. Not my favorite flavor but because of the wine it was not the least bit obtrusive. Do you have a suggestion for the unbanded cigar of the week? Every week Bob and Dale include an “unbanded cigar” segment in their show in which they smoke a cigar without any markings and give their honest opinions. Bob then opens a sealed envelope and discovers the cigar’s name and manufacturer. If you have suggestions for the "What's My Band?" segment, please send them to liz@cigarmedia.tv. The Cigar of the Week is the My Father Cigars Le Bijou Box Pressed Torpedo, another great cigar that was rated as one of the 25 finest cigars of 2011 by Cigar Journal. The Unbanded Cigar, JML (Jose M. Losa) 1902 Gran Reserva was provided by D.J. Shalifoe. Check out the live show! This month's prize is a carbon fiber Palio Cutter. The February contest winner was Jon French. Cigar of the Week - My Father Cigars Le Bijou Box Pressed Torpedo Nicaraguan Habano Oscuro (Pelo De Oro), with Nicaraguan binder and filler released in late 2011 Torpedo (Box Press) – 6 1/8 x 52 MSRP: $11.75 (Boxes of 23, $270.25) Date Released: July 2011 Number of Cigars Released: Regular Production The name “Le Bijou” translates to “The Jewel” and the date 1922 refers to the birthdate of José Pepín García’s father. It’s Don Pepín’ García’s homage to his own father in a similar way that Jaime did for José with the original My Father line. What else have you been smokin' Dale? Quesada Q D’etat Howitzer - 6” x 60 - this is a pre-release sample from (I assume) the Pro Cigar festival. A great blend with boldness and balance. Great spice, full body and wonderful room aromas! I have nothing against big ring gauge cigars and I understand how lots of flavor and complexity can result from plenty of tobacco, but has everyone forgot there’s a way to get a big smoke and still have it fit in one’s mouth! It’s called a torpedo, a perfecto, or a belicoso for crying out loud. As much as I love the flavors, body and character of this cigar, I won’t buy one in this format. Rocky Patel Sungrown Torpedo - 6.25” x 52 - After smoking a small ring size of this line a couple weeks ago and thinking I liked it best, I had to try a larger ring size again just to be sure. I was right. This torpedo was ok, but the Petite Corona delivered more flavor and more complexity.. What else have you been smokin' Bob? Perdomo Exhibicion - a fine smoke and one of the most expensive of the Perdomo line. Not listed on the web site, I smoked the maduro torpedo and quite enjoyed it. What's My Band?- This week's unbanded, JML (Jose M. Losa) 1902 Gran Reserva was provided by D.J. Shalifoe. Do you have a suggestion for the unbanded cigar of the week? Cigar of the Week - CAO OSA SOL Lot 50 Wrapper: Olancho San Agustin Sun Grown Binder: Connecticut Broadleaf Filler: Honduran, Nicaraguan Lot 50, 5 x 50 Lot 54, 6 x 54 Lot 58, 6 1/2 x 58 What else have you been smokin' Dale? A. Fuente Fuente Forbidden X Quesada Oktoberfest What else have you been smokin' Bob? San Lotano Oval - Currently my go-to cigar; great construction and flavors that are complex yet well layered to give an overall effect of coffee, dark chocolate and toasted bread. Panacea Black Label - Coffee flavor is delicious; retrohale exhibits a black tea essence. One Shot One Kill from Room 101 - Love the figurado shape; much smoother than I expected but seriously one note so far. Orange spice and smooth retrohale. Slight acidic/tannin flavor that comes on once you get to the full barrel. Deep savory coffee flavors. What else have you been smokin' Craig? Padron Anniversary Corona - See, I told you this was one of my favorites. Faux Partagas Salamon - From a new client. What a gesture :) What's My Band?- This week's unbanded, the John Bull Bulldog 5.5x52, was provided by Dan Crouch. Craig: Sweet nut & grassy sweet hay; great light-smoked wonderfully right away. Slightly crisp; perhaps a granny smith apple. Transitions to grapefruit crispness. Slight leather flavor progresses and a slight cocoa finish completes the smoke. I think this is a Nicaraguan blend with a slightly Dominican note. There is a sweet spicyness that I think may be from the Dominican influence. There are also wonderful nutty/beany flavors that progress throughout. Love the smoke. Reminds me of a Punch After Dinner. Do you have a suggestion for the unbanded cigar of the week? Cigar of the Week - Rocky Patel Sungrown The Rocky Patel Sun grown features a five-year-old Ecuadorian Sumatra sun grown wrapper, and seven year Dominican and Nicaraguan filler tobaccos. Petite Corona 4 1/2 x 44 Robusto 5 1/2 x 50 Toro 6 1/2 x 52 Torpedo 6 1/4 x 52 Sixty 6 x 60 Tubo 6 x 50 Junior 4 x 38 Wrapper: Ecuadorian Sumatra Binder: Nicaraguan Fillers: Dominican, Nicaraguan What else have you been smokin' Dale? Smoker Friendly Corojo Toro - 6” x 50 - Made for SF by Rocky Patel in Honduras, this is one of 3 versions of the SF line of cigars. The other two are a dark Maduro and a light Connecticut wrapper. The Corojo is nice enough, with nuts, coffee and light spice over a cedar core. A good value cigar that I could smoke often. EP Carrillo Elencos Don Rubino - 5.25” x 50 - Made in the DR with a filler bend of Nicaragua tobacco, a Dominican binder and a Brazillian Wrapper, the Elencos series highlights the richness of well fermented DR tobacco blended the exotic spices from the Nica tobacco. An excellent, superbly constructed cigar! G.A.R. Opium S.T.K. - 6” x 52, limited run of 1,000 boxes - Wrapped with a Nicaraguan grown Habano/Corojo hybrid leaf over Nicaraguan binder, the super secret filler blend seems well bunched and firmly rolled. Full bodied, full flavored and bold, but not overly strong - the cigar is well balanced. Leather, wood and spice come to the fore, and the smoke has a bit of a dry character. Like Bob a few weeks ago, this might be my favorite G.A.R. cigar. What else have you been smokin' Bob? Davidoff 6000 Robusto Natural cigars are distinguished by their perfectly balanced taste, which is milder in flavor than the full-bodied Davidoff Grand Cru series, yet more pronounced than the subtle Davidoff Classic Series. Every cigar contains the same perfectly balanced blend of Dominican tobaccos and flawless, even-toned Connecticut wrappers. Their understated aroma and flavor is what has contributed to the Davidoff 6000 Robusto everlasting allure. Leon Jimenez Desde 1903 - Smooth, well aged flavors of leather and sweet spice. Flavors coat your mouth with just the right amount of salt and acidity. Nice aroma; excellent cigar. What's My Band?- This week's unbanded, the Famous Nicaraguan Selection 5000, was provided by Jay LeDou. Bob: I sat down with a cold glass of water and the second episode of Oz and the James Wine show thanks to Pete Daly and his wife, Lyn, who sent me a copy. The cigar is distinctly dark with a great aroma of barnyard. Provided surprisingly little flavor at the start. Then I noticed a hollow bitter flavor that was emphasized by a stinging retrohale. Very heavy on the ligero flavors of bitter strength and a slap to your upper rear palate. Cigar is top heavy although it does have some coffee/espresso flavor. Disappointing for a maduro. Lots of acidity. Needs more balance and age as it did develop a slight tangy burn on my tongue. Has a dirty flavor to it. - Midway through, the cigar mellowed somewhat but that just meant that it went BLAHHHHHH.
