Meet Chris Lalomia. Chris is a successful entrepreneur and change leader that has built on his experiences working with the largest companies in America and bringing his unique style to produce success in starting his business from an idea. He currently runs a multi-million-dollar handyman and remodeling company and has started the Home Service Institute to provide a community of like-minded service business owners who have a passion for providing an incredible Customer Experience. Starting a business from scratch is the single hardest business move anyone could undertake and Chris was able to start a business during the 2008 recession and grow it into a thriving symbol of professional home repair excellence in the Metro Atlanta area. The Trusted Toolbox is the largest award-winning handyman company in the area. Chris is originally from Michigan and grew up in Jackson (60 miles west of Detroit) and YES, he uses his hand to show where is from. He went to school in the Upper Peninsula and earned his Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Michigan Tech University. He then realized that he wasn't enjoying the cold, so he moved to Charlotte, NC and earned his Masters Degree in Precision Engineering from The University of North Carolina - Charlotte. His path to business ownership was a lot like peoples' paths to their current position… not exactly straight… His first engineering job was at Curtiss-Wright Flight systems making airplane parts, but soon realized he needed to add some other business skills to his resume, he joined Accenture and began working with large banks to help them merge, which led him to SunTrust where he ran the Commercial loan operations department… That meandering path led him to start The Trusted Toolbox in 2008. That's right at the start of the recession, and he has proven that he could make it through those times. He has lived Georgia since 2001, with his wife Nicolle and they have 2 children. Sydney and Austin. He likes to spend his free time enjoying wine and good food , playing golf and watching sports. #b2bmarketing #entrepreneurship Topics covered: b2b marketing,b2b sales,b2b lead generation,b2b,b2b lead generation strategies,b2b marketing strategies,b2b lead generation ideas,b2b sales funnel stages,b2b leads,b2b sales funnel,b2b marketing strategy,b2b sales process, sales development,b2b business marketing, business marketing, patrick dang,b2b saas, sales lead generation techniques, new marketing ideas for 2023,gary vaynerchuk, marketing trends 2023,garyvee,lead generation In this week's episode of This Week with Sabir, Chris Lalomia shares his journey from novice marketer to experienced lead generation pusher. “It was nice to be included,” says Lupien. “I recognized a lot of names on there and some folks whose work I've been following for years.“Mass Timber is an umbrella term for a variety of engineered wood building construction materials. And typically, these are panelized materials and they're really large. Imagine a big beam made of layers of 2x4s laminated together in the shape of a steel I-beam so that you could use that instead of a steel I-beam in a large building. Or imagine a large panel, like a wall or a floor that's made of layers of 2x4s or 2x6s in opposing layers, stacked in layers that are in the opposite direction of one another. That's called cross-laminated timber. And you can drop that in to create a wall or a floor. So, these are big materials that are typically used in larger buildings.” Why is Mass Timber a good fit for construction, like at the MSU STEM Teaching and Learning Facility that uses it extensively and has won many awards?“The Michigan State University STEM Teaching and Learning facility opened in July, and it's the first building in Michigan to use mass timber for its structural system. The STEM Facility uses two types of mass timber. One is glue-laminated timber. Those are typically beams and columns. People who like buildings and know buildings will know that glue-laminated timber columns and beams aren't really new. They've been in use for a few decades here in the United States. And the building also uses cross-laminated timber, which are those big panels that I was talking about. And that's a newer technology that's just starting to emerge in North America.“People are excited about mass timber for a variety of reasons, but the main driver behind the interest is the sustainability benefits of building with big wood in combination in hybrid models like we did in the STEM Facility with materials like steel or concrete, which are more historically or typically used in large buildings.“Mass timber is great because to produce mass timber and transport mass timber typically emits less carbon than other types of building materials. Wood is a renewable material; it's a renewable resource. You're not using a finite resource. So, that's a more sustainable way of building as well. But the thing that I think is powerful about mass timber in addition to those features is how trees work. In a forest, trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere during photosynthesis. They take in that carbon dioxide. As we know, they emit oxygen, which we breathe. But they take in that carbon dioxide as gas and then they store it in their trunks, in their branches, in their roots, and ultimately, in the soil as carbon.“While that carbon is stored in the trees, it's not being emitted into the atmosphere. We know that carbon dioxide going into the atmosphere warms the atmosphere contributing to global climate change. There are many other types of greenhouse gases that also contribute to climate change. Methane being one that we hear a lot about as well. And methane is admitted by trees when they are dying and decomposing in the forest. So, when you have trees storing carbon in the forest, that's a very important benefit of forests. It helps to contain that carbon by either delaying it or preventing it from going back in the atmosphere at a rapid pace, which is what we want to avoid to curb climate emissions.“When you cut a tree and you use it in a long-lived durable product like mass timber, which can last for 50, 100, 150 years in a building, you're storing a significant amount of carbon that tree in the forest has sequestered, absorbed, and stored. You're storing that carbon in the building, further delaying the amount of time before that carbon would go into the atmosphere. So, you're really helping your buildings to become centers of carbon storage. And other materials such as steel and concrete, of course, don't store carbon. They don't have a carbon storage capacity.”Lupien talks about how MSU is leading in the research and application of mass timber and about how a growing and evolving mass timber industry can impact Michigan's economy.“Mass Timber@MSU is funded in large part by Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. Both of those agencies are very interested in advancing mass timber in Michigan in large part because they see significant potential opportunities for rural-forested communities to revive some forest economies that have been a little bit tired for many reasons in recent years, maybe creating some new opportunities in milling, some new opportunities in kilning, and, of course, new opportunities in manufacture of mass timber. On the construction side, there's also the opportunity to train new types of builders. This is a different way of building. We can perhaps develop new types of construction jobs. So, there's a lot of potential economic development opportunities associated with this.“On the manufacturing side, it's important to note that most mass timber in North America is coming from the Pacific Northwest or the Pacific Coast of Canada. Some is coming from Quebec. For example, the mass timber that you'll see if you visit our STEM Teaching and Learning Facility is from black spruce from Quebec. And then some is starting to come from the Southeast United States using yellow pine. The reason for that is that all the mass timber technologies currently certified for use in North America are made from soft wood species like spruce, pine, and fur.“In Michigan, we have about 20 percent soft wood in our forest but about 80 percent hardwood. That's an interesting opportunity for Michigan to think about. How can we use hardwoods in mass timber in North America? Europe has been using hardwoods in mass timber. Can we do it here? From an engineering and structural standpoint, the answer is yes. It just is a matter of doing the research, development, and product certification to make that happen. Our friends at Michigan Tech University have been doing some exciting research along those lines, developing cross-laminated timber using hardwoods. So, we're watching that very carefully.“I think it's exciting to see mass timber in person. We have the first example of mass timber construction right here on MSU's campus. For those interested in visiting the STEM Facility here on MSU's campus, please feel free to reach out to me, Sandra Lupien. My email address is lupiensa@msu.edu. And I will be happy to find a time when you or perhaps a group of your colleagues can come and see the building, or we can do an introduction to mass timber presentation. When people see it, they really understand ‘Oh, this is how it works.' And in addition to the benefits that I mentioned, it's also just very beautiful; it's a nice feeling to be in a building made from wood that's exposed. People love that. The students are really enjoying the building. I think we're going to see more mass timber buildings in Michigan in the coming months and years. And I hope that we'll also realize mass timber manufacturing in Michigan before too long.”MSU Today airs Saturdays at 5 p.m. and Sundays at 5 a.m. on WKAR News/Talk and Sundays at 8 p.m. on 760 WJR. If you've got a taste for hockey nostalgia, the local history of the Copper Country, or you just enjoy one of Michigan's most popular winter pastimes, you will enjoy William J. Sproule's Houghton: The Birthplace of Professional Hockey for the humanity it brings to the players and their cold winter sagas of the early 1900s. Dr. William Sproule, a recently retired professor of civil and environmental engineering from Michigan Tech University, wrote the new book Houghton: The Birthplace of Professional Hockey with the hopes of cementing the Keewenaw's crucial role in the development of this sport. Specifically, he tells the story of how a Canadian-born dentist and Houghton entrepreneur changed hockey by openly paying players to come to the Copper Country to play hockey. In 1900, Jack “Doc” Gibson moved from Canada, established his dental practice, and joined the Portage Lake YMCA hockey team. Gibson was already considered one of Canada's finest players and led his newly joined team to win the Upper Peninsula Championship before going on to beat a Chicago team and hence be declared the “Champions of the West”. By 1903, Gibson had teamed up with local businessman James Dee had hatched a plan to recruit the best players from Canada and openly pay them to pay for the Portage Lake hockey team—thus making them the first-ever professional hockey team. The team's home ice was the newly built Amphidrome arena which replaced the previous Palace Ice Rink down on the Houghton waterfront. The team did so well that they won the United States Championship in 1903 and 1904 seasons by defeating the Pittsburgh Bankers and Montreal Wanderers respectively. Truly the Copper Country had become a hotbed of professional hockey prowess in this early period. Sproule's book concentrates on this period from 1900 to 1906 where the U.P. in general and Houghton in particular dominated the early seasons of professional hockey on this continent. He includes full reprints of contemporary sports news stories, photographs of venues, players, and their jerseys and equipment. Sproule does a deep dive into game statistics so you can learn the players' names and how well they did game-by-game. By now you're surely wondering, how and why did this happen in Houghton, as opposed to Minneapolis, Detroit, or even Montreal? Given that hockey was already the national pastime in Canada, why wouldn't they have the first professional hockey teams? It turns out that the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) dominated the sport and their insistence on amateur teams eventually created the economic opportunity for Houghton. The town was ideally situated with rail links, courtesy of the copper mining industry, to move players from Canada into the US and from that vantage being able to field a team to challenge American teams as far away as Pennsylvania. The OHA's amateur-only ethic was purely intended to keep working-class riff-raff off the ice so hockey could remain a gentleman's sport. Of course team managers in Ontario were always trying to find a way around the no-pay-for-play rules and ended up awarding gold watches, diamond rings, and five-star hotel stays to the players—virtually anything and everything except cold cash was paid out. Even so, many top-tier Canadian players were eventually suspended for taking pay thanks to the cold-hearted John Ross Robertson, leader of OHA and prominent Toronto businessman. In one case, an entire team was suspended for accepting $10 gold coins as a reward for victory. It didn't take long before Canada's best players headed south of the border where they could sign on with American teams as far away as Pittsburgh and earn some kind of a living at it. William Sproule, author of Houghton – The Birthplace of Professional Hockey Sproule's book excels in detail in the second half of the book where he dissects every game of those early seasons 1904, 1905, and 1906 where Copper Country teams ruled the professional leagues. Statistics for all the International Hockey League teams are provided, including teams from Calumet, Portage Lake, Michigan Soo, Canadian Soo, and Pittsburgh. Player-level detail shows Top Goal Scorers, Top Goalies, and even Penalty-Minute Leaders. A detailed biographical section provides player portraits and bios of all Portage Lake players and Hockey Hall of Famers. A complete IHL player roster provides career details that you won't find all together in any other book about early hockey history. Sproule also provides archival quality pictures of all the local area hockey venues including the evolution of Houghton's Amphidrome, the Calumet Glaciadom, and Calumet Colosseum. Last, but not least, a history of the Stanley Cup and McNaughton Cups provide historical backgrounds for these unique hockey award traditions. Sproule even covers rulebooks and rule changes from the original one-pager to more sophisticated rules which evolved surprisingly quickly.

Amtrak is about to get a $66 billion upgrade that could open up new real estate markets. The funding is part of the $1.2 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. It's also the largest amount of government funding for passenger rail in Amtrak's entire 50-year history. Hi, I'm Kathy Fettke and this is Real Estate News for Investors. If you like our podcast, please subscribe and leave us a review.Amtrak's CEO Bill Flynn is overjoyed. He had previously laid out a plan for Amtrak upgrades and expansion during the early months of the Biden administration. He told NBC News: “We have a clear vision for how we want to grow our business and reach more of America.” Amtrak Connects USThe plan is a 15-year strategy called “Amtrak Connects US.” It calls for improvements to existing rail service as well as expansion into new cities and rural areas. Amtrak says the expansion will reach a total of 160 NEW communities with upgraded service on at least 20 existing routes. According to NBC News, the Rail Passengers Association has been lobbying members of Congress for several years to get this measure passed. (1) The association's president, Jim Mathews, says the current funding amount is “a down payment on literally decades of underinvestment.” He says: “It's hard to explain to people how little this country has spent on rail. We as a country don't invest enough and it shows.”Major Upgrade NeededThe Northeast Corridor is an example of that kind of funding neglect. That's where Amtrak owns most of its own infrastructure and the experts say it needs updating. The director of a rail transportation program at Michigan Tech University says: “To increase ridership, you need convenience and reliability.” He says he's not sure the Northeast Corridor has either one of those.Part of the upgrade involves a 450-mile corridor from Washington, D.C. to Boston. According to an Amtrak study, that upgrade alone will generate $195 billion in economic activity and create more than 26,000 jobs.Currently, Amtrak connects more than 600 destinations in 46 states, Washington, D.C., and three Canadian provinces. The only two states within the contiguous U.S. are Wyoming and South Dakota.New Amtrak Stations in 10 StatesAmtrak says that more than 10 states will get new Amtrak stations, including Wyoming. That station is headed for Cheyenne, Wyoming and will go south to Fort Collins, Denver, and Pueblo, Colorado. (2)Another new station is headed for Columbus, Ohio, which is one of the nation's biggest cities currently without an Amtrak station. It'll be connected along a route from Cincinnati-to-Columbus-to-Cleveland.Las Vegas, Nevada will also get a new station as a destination from Los Angeles. And a second Southern California route that runs through through Riverside County, will head to a new station in Phoenix. That station will also have a new direct connection to Tucson.A new route through Tennessee will provide train service from Nashville and Chattanooga to Atlanta, Macon and Savannah, Georgia. That will give passengers access to the Georgia coast. There are plans for a new station in Wilmington, North Carolina which will give passengers direct access to several other cities, and bring them close to the North Carolina coast.Other new stations are planned for Rockford, Illinois; Iowa City, Iowa; Duluth, Minnesota; Allentown and Scranton, Pennsylvania; Rockland, Maine; Louisville, Kentucky; Montgomery, Auburn, and Mobile, Alabama; and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.Amtrak plans to connect Houston and Dallas, along with Detroit and Toledo. And there are plans for more rail service across Florida connecting Miami, Tampa, Orlando, and Jacksonville. The timeline for the entire upgrade plan is from now through 2035. Construction Dive reports that Amtrak carried 32 million passengers in 2019 and expects to have an additional 20 million riders from all these new connections. (3) And when there are new ways to connect, there are new real estate markets to explore. In this episode, Daryl Devonish and Matt Young speak with Ken Martel, Technical Director, ADM, USA Hockey about What's next for USA Hockey?Ken shares the journey that USA Hockey has taken over the last 10+ years to change the game to focus on youth. After seeing over 40,000 male youth drop out in the early 2000's, USA Hockey recognized the investment and change that would be required to attract and retain youth in the game. Pulling inspiration and knowledge from Canada's LTAD model, the Olympic Committee, and many European countries that focus on quality coaches at a grassroots level, USA Hockey was able to evaluate and develop new frameworks investing in the culture and development of the game.Daryl, Matt, and Ken talk about the battle between the way people think the sport should be applied to how the science is telling us how it should be applied. Hear from Ken on what operational challenges they encountered, where the biggest resistance was, and the lessons they learned when implementing change management. Through the process, they have seen significant progress and realized where and how USA Hockey can make positive change in the system, including focusing on achieving 85% of the desired goal and working together on the last 15%.The advise they often have for parents, coaches, and youth athletes includes:Work on your craftGet good at your local rinkRemove the pressure to 'be seen' at a young age through travel as how a player is at 12 doesn't predict where they will go in the gameThe discussion continues on how an organization can make positive changes including:Why it's important to stay focused on the reason change is being madeIdentify where your strengths are and how you can scale change Why patience is critical as your work through behavior change across all levels of an organization Be inspired by the discussion with Ken and how USA Hockey is working to make hockey more accessible and enjoyable to keep kids in the game for life. With over 25 years of experience in player development and a long history as a coach with USA Hockey, Martel became technical director of USA Hockey’s American Development Model in 2009. He is charged with helping provide a framework for associations nationwide to follow for optimal athlete development. From '06-'08 at USA Hockey’s national office, Martel worked on coaching education and player development initiatives receiving the USOC "Doc" Councilman Award for Ice Hockey in 2004 for his efforts using science to advance sport. Prior to this, Martel was a part of USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program staff as an assistant coach for 8 years. In addition:Martel made appearances behind the bench of nine U.S. teams that have competed in International Ice Hockey Federation World ChampionshipsHe was part of two gold medal-winning teams, including the first-ever U.S. gold medals in the IIHF Men’s World Under-18 Championship and the IIHF World Junior Championship. Martel served one season as an assistant coach for the men’s ice hockey program at the U.S. Air Force Academy and 7 seasons as an assistant men’s ice hockey coach at Michigan Tech University. He spent 1 year as a graduate assistant for the men’s ice hockey program at St. Cloud State University. Aja Andromeda (pronounced AY- j-ah  An-dr-AH-me-da) is the founder of Multidimensional U®, a human and planetary rights movement, a metaphysical coaching company and an engineering hub for the build out of a New Earth, based in higher dimensional coordinates and unity consciousness.  She is also a Multidimensional Engineer, InnerGalactic Shaman, Channel and Guide for planetary Wayshowers who want to activate into the next level of their human embodiment and are ready to step into their Soul Purpose work. Through her online metaphysical coaching program, The Emergence Experience, she has helped clients across the world contribute to a New Earth through the alchemy of their personal transformation. In addition, she's helped them uncover their greater calling and activate incredible innate metaphysical abilities.  Since 2015, Aja has led this year-long experiential program for awakening and awakened wayshowers who need support releasing blocks, clearing density and distortion, and aligning with a higher timeline.   After getting her undergraduate degree from William Smith College and her MS from Michigan Tech University, Aja founded several nonprofit organizations and launched a consulting business before her metaphysical awakening catapulted her into alignment with her own greater calling. Her warm, loving approach provides a high vibrational, nurturing container that helps people shift out of destructive patterns that stem from core wounding and the trauma of living in lower density and negative programming.  Many of Aja's clients have become powerful, impactful healers and Wayshowers in their own right. Aja has been featured as an expert in the areas of New Earth Engineering, Inner Alchemy, and the Multidimensional Self. Her work has appeared on channels like Higher Self and Higher Self Portal. Aja has also been a guest on podcasts like Love, Service, Wisdom with Marisa Weppner and Thrive With Morella. She spends time with her family between the Northern Rocky Mountains of Montana, the more wild, mystical lands of France, and the many different dimensions of the Multiverse.   Ok, Love Warriors, we went deep here, and I mean mulit-demensional deep. You might want to get your pen and paper ready for this episode to jot down your feelings and take-aways. Aja is an incredibly gifted channel and it was a gift to talk about ways for us all to manage our energy and stay open hearted, and why that's important.   Here are some of my main take-aways: We are all multi-demensional, meaning because we are all energy and there are varying demensions in the multi-verse, we actually take on a variety of energetic forms in different realms. Stay with me... We are in a time of ascension which is all about the raising of consciousness of humanity and energy getting lighter, which produces symptoms just like you'd expect with a higher elevation. What we're being called to do is open our heart portals and live from an open heart field. Aja suggests imagining that your heart energy extends 50 feet around you and can positively activate other human heart fields by adding love and compassion. Check out the HeartMath interviews to better understand the science behind our heart electromagnetic fields, which support this idea. Just like brushing your teeth and showering, it's crucial to have a daily psychic hygiene practice. Check out Aja's psychic hygiene meditation for an example of how to do this. Most importantly, we are being asked to get out of our head and to drop down to our heart centers. This takes focus, concentration and practice. Both Aja and I have meditations that can help you do this.   For more information about Aja, her upcoming Earth Day Meditation Activation and other works, go to www.multidemensionalu.com   Connect with Aja Andromeda Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MultidimensionalU Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/multidimensionalu/ Website: https://www.multidimensionalu.com/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/NewEarthMDU LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/adrienneblausertrapani Free Meditation Gift to Ground & Clear Your Field https://www.multidimensionalu.com/meditation New Earth Money Manifestation https://multidimensionalu.zippycourses.com/course/new-earth-money-manifestation     Enjoying the show? Today’s episode features a special coaching roundtable featuring three experts in the implementation of the “1x20” training system: Jeff Moyer of DC Sports Training, Matt Thome of Michigan Tech University, and Ryan Bracius of Wisconsin Whitewater. Most folks familiar with Just Fly Sports and the podcast know of Jeff Moyer, as he has been a frequent guest and writer, and is also the first guy to really get me intrigued by the 1x20 system, and its benefits for athletes.  Since then, Jeff has been a huge contributor to Just Fly Sports, and I’ve had a number of coaches ask me about the 1x20 system since our first episode together.  I met Matt Thome and Ryan Bracius in person at the Track Football Consortium VI in Chicago this past December.  Matt is the head strength coach at Michigan Tech, working with football and basketball, and Ryan is developing some of the best football athletes in NCAA Division III at Wisconsin Whitewater.  Both are getting fantastic results with rock-bottom injury rates.  Matt had the idea of talking not just about “1x20”, but particularly about “life after 1x20”, or how to transition athletes to the next step in their training after the 1x20 system has run its course.  It’s important to realize that coaches using the 1x20 model use much more than just this singular set and rep scheme. For those unfamiliar with the 1x20 system, a simple explanation is as follows: Start athletes out with 5-8 exercises, with 1 set of 20 reps each, building up to around 18-23 exercises over time.  Instead of pushing the gas pedal down the first day with the intensity, the exercises are “slow cooked” by gradually adding weight over time.  When athletes reach adaptation (stop improving) on the sets of 20, then the next phase is 1x14, and finally 1x8.  This system was taught to many coaches today by Yosef Johnson who was mentored by the inventor of the system, Dr. Michael Yessis. Coaches who have used the system have noted good to great gains in strength, but also in athletes explosive KPI’s compared to other systems, as well as a reduction in injury rate. On the episode today, we go in depth on each coach’s introduction to the 1x20 system, how they implement it, and what kind of results they are getting.  We’ll also talk about why the 1x20 works so well from a physiological and neural level.  The second half of the episode talks about the transition from the 1x20 system into other training methods, such as velocity based, and special strength training. Today’s episode is brought to you by SimpliFaster, supplier of high-end athletic development tools, such as the Freelap timing system, kBox, Sprint 1080, and more. Key Points: Jeff, Matt and Ryan’s initial experiences with the 1x20 system and results Implementation of the 1x20 system on the levels of the collegiate and private sector, and how the coaches work down to the 1x14 and 1x8 segments The thought process of when coaches funnel away from 1x20 into 1x14 and 1x8 setups The nature of velocity based training workouts after the departure of 1x20 and 1x14 set rep setups Special exercises for use in velocity based, specific training periods Approaches to 1RM testing in the 1x20 system Quotes “(Regarding 1x20) Eventually we are covering every joint action, we have 18-23 different exercises on there” “We might start with 5-8 exercises, the fall is a lot of teaching and a lot of learning” “ My Freshmen will do 1x20 from August to Thanksgiving, my juniors and seniors who already have a very good base may only do 3-4 weeks of (1x20) to re-address it” “Generally I’d rather keep athletes in the 20’s longer and just switch exercises, rather than get them in the 14’s (Jeff Moyer)” “1x20 sets the scene for increasing connective tissue strength” “If we’re talking about the primary factors that are increasing a jump test or sprint test with just the 1 set of 20, it’s probably more related to motor unit coordination and motor...

Sam Barros came to the US to pursue a mechanical engineering degree at Michigan Tech University. During college, Sam interned at a nuclear power plant as a system engineer and loved the idea of working at a large engineering firm. But, when Sam graduate, he went a completely different direction. He moved to California and worked as a special effects engineer doing high-voltage special effects. One day, Sam got a random phone call from a very prominent businessman, Nermal Mouliea, who proposed that Sam come work for him on a new fuel efficiency project. Sam did a little research to find out if this was the real deal, and it turned out to be true. So Sam packed up his stuff and headed to New Jersey to head the project. The idea was to spray water directly into the combustion chamber to reduce heat losses within the engine. While the idea is similar to water/methanol injection of many forced induction applications, this idea took it to the next level and very accurately injected fine water particles into the cylinder. They were able to achieve 25% increase in fuel efficiency with this system. While this was an excellent result, the problem was implementation. It is very difficult to modify an existing engine and even more difficult to get an OEM manufacturer to implement it in a new engine. So, they took this technology and applied it to fuel injectors. While the OEM’s were coming out with Direct Injection (DI) engines, the aftermarket had not been able to keep up. They now manufacture and modify injectors for many engines to supply the aftermarket customers looking for more power in their DI engines. EFI University is teaching a class on DI tuning using Nostrum Energy’s Cadillac featuring their injectors. They work with companies such as Lingenfelter who provides a larger high pressure fuel pump for many applications. In addition to the DI applications, Nostrum Energy also manufactures their own Port Injection (PI) injectors. They are unique by integrating a divorced spray pattern to inject fuel directly down each port.

Scientists following in the footsteps of Edwardian explorer, Douglas Mawson, have been trapped in pack ice in the Antarctic. The Chinese vessel that came to their rescue also became "beset" in the ice. The BBC's Andrew Luck Baker talks to Adam Rutherford about the catacylsmic event that caused multi-year ice to break away and trap the Academik Shokalskiy and Professor John Turner of the British Antarctic Survey underlines the importance of differentiating between extreme weather events and the impact of climate change.A team at Rothamsted Research in Hertfordshire has succeeded in genetically engineering plant seeds to contain the Omega-3 oil usually found in oily fish. Seeds from Camelina sativa (false flax) plants were modified using genes from microalgae - the primary organisms that produce these beneficial fatty acids. The oil has now been incorporated into salmon feed to assess whether it's a viable alternative to wild fish oil. Dr Johnathan Napier tells Melissa Hogenboom that he hopes the plants will provide a sustainable source of long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids. From fossils we know an awful lot about the animals that walked on the Earth, swam in the sea and flew in the air. But fossils have never been good at revealing the colour of these animals. With increasingly sophisticated sampling techniques however, scientists are starting to get a much better, technicolour glimpse into these extinct fauna. And it turns out that colour played a much more important role than just camouflage and decoration. Johan Lindgren form Lund University in Sweden has been finding out how the pigment, melanin, allowed ancient marine reptiles to travel all over the oceanic globe.Show Us Your Instrument: Dr Andrew Polaszek, Head of Terrestrial Invertebrates at the Natural History Museum reveals his compound microscope (with Nomarski Differential Interference Contrast) which he uses to discover "hidden biodiversity", particularly in parasitoid wasps.Stephen Hawking threw a party for time travellers and issued the invitation after the event. Astrophysicists after a long poker game decided to use Twitter instead, to flush out the time travellers in our midst. Professor Robert Nemiroff from Michigan Tech University and his students mined social media for references to the Comet ISON and the naming of the new Pope Francis, before both those events had actually happened.
