En amont de la saison France-Brésil 2025, la session live reçoit deux artistes de la diaspora brésilienne : Momo et Rio 77.  Notre 1er invité est Momo pour la sortie de son 7e album GiraLondres compte un nouveau talent brésilien : Momo ! Il fait partie de la récente génération d'artistes influencés par les classiques brésiliens, du tropicalisme des années 70 à Os Mutantes, en passant pas Milton Nascimenton. L'album a été enregistré dans l'est de Londres au Total Refreshment Center, avec des musiciens brésiliens et anglais, issus de la foisonnante scène jazz londonienne.Après une odyssée musicale qui l'a mené de Rio de Janeiro à l'Angola, au Michigan, à l'Espagne et à Lisbonne, Momo vit à Londres depuis trois ans.Son premier album A Estética do Rabisco, sorti en 2006, est désigné comme l'un des meilleurs albums de l'année par le Chicago Reader et lui ouvre la voie. Coming in at #18 on the 2024 Cigar Coop Cigar of the Year Countdown is the Liga Privada 10 Aniversario by Drew Estate. In 2018, Drew Estate celebrated the tenth anniversary of the Liga Privada brand by introducing two cigars: The 10 Aniversario and the H99 Connecticut Corojo. These two releases were groundbreaking because they incorporated uncommon wrappers from the State of Connecticut. The Liga Privada 10 Aniversario uses a Connecticut-grown Criollo wrapper, while the H99 uses a hybrid Connecticut-grown Corojo wrapper. While the cigars were unveiled in 2018, these remained extremely limited releases for nearly four years due to low yields of the wrapper. In 2023, that would change, and the 10 Aniversario and H99 Connecticut would begin to reach the market. Initially released in a Toro, Drew Estate has now expanded production of the Liga Privada 10 Aniversario to include a Robusto, which lands on this year's countdown. Despite being orphaned at a young age, Simon Bolivar was far from an orphan Annie character. Born into a wealthy Criollo family in 1783, his education continued before he made an extensive trip around Europe. While there, he was introduced to ideas of the enlightenment and events such as the French Revolution. Despite his ethnically Spanish roots, he returned to Venezuela determined to gain independence and establish a republic. In subsequent years he became involved in three separate Venezuelan republics whilst establishing himself as the de facto ruler of Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Panama, and Bolivia. The latter even named after him.  But his legacy is complicated. A proponent for the abolishment of slavery, for a time an ally of the newly independent Haiti, Bolivar while earning the moniker "The Liberator" was ultimately pushed out of power. In this episode I examine Bolivar's life with my guest, a leading expert on the subject -- his compatriot -- Prof. Tomas Helmut Straka Medina of the prestigious Andre Bello Catholic University of Caracas, Venezuela. Tomas explains the nuances of Bolivar's reign, his motivations and the context of the overall geopolitical situation. Guest:  Prof. Tomas Helmut Straka Medina Tomás Straka is a Venezuelan historian, author, and professor of history at the Andrés Bello Catholic University. He has authored various works, including "La voz de los vencidos," "Hechos y gente," "Un Reino para este mundo," "La épica del desencanto," and "La república fragmentada," among others. Straka holds a PhD in History from Andrés Bello Catholic University and has been a visiting scholar at prestigious institutions like the University of Chicago and Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. He is a member of the National Academy of History in Venezuela since 2016. Straka's contributions to Venezuelan history and academia are significant, reflected in his extensive bibliography covering various aspects of Venezuelan history and society. In addition to his academic endeavors, Straka is known for his involvement in preserving democratic memory in Venezuela, as highlighted in his work "Por el rescate de la memoria democrática en Venezuela."
