Everything we say about Relief Society in this episode applies to the Elders Quorum! This episode is largely based on President Julie B. Beck's talk titled "Why We Are Organized into Quorums and Relief Societies." We discuss the purpose of Relief Society and how it has helped us come closer to the Savior. Mom quoted D&C 88:74-75 74 And I give unto you, who are the first laborers in this last kingdom, a commandment that you assemble yourselves together, and organize yourselves, and prepare yourselves, and sanctify yourselves; yea, purify your hearts, and cleanse your hands and your feet before me, that I may make you clean; 75 That I may testify unto your Father, and your God, and my God, that you are clean from the blood of this wicked generation; that I may fulfil this promise, this great and last promise, which I have made unto you, when I will. In the Seeking Light podcast episode 98, I talked to women who are trying to find purpose in their lives after their children have left the home. In podcast episode, I spoke with 2 young mothers who are in the beginning journey of their motherhood. Today I interviewed Carrie Mendoza and Carrie Amdal who have children at home and children who are young adults. Carie Mendoza is a mother of seven children ages 13 to 27 years old. Carrie Amdal is a mother of five children ages 17 to 27. Join me today as they share their insight, light and knowledge while they navigate this journey of motherhood. “The responsibility mothers have today has never required more vigilance. More than at any time in the history of the world, we need mothers who know. Children are being born into a world where they “wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” (Ephesians 6:12). However, mothers need not fear. When mothers know who they are and who God is and have made covenants with Him, they will have great power and influence for good on their children." "I will go" - those are the words of Rebekah when Abraham's servant said they needed to leave right away and that they couldn't wait the 10 days that her family was requesting. Luckily, they were willing to ask her opinion and be okay letting that happen. Rebekah was king and willing to serve Abraham's servant even when she didn't have to. Maybe it was just part of who she was to serve travelers she met at the well. Maybe that day, a though came to help this traveler in particular - and she did. She said the exact words in the exact order that he had barely finished praying for a women to say in order to know who should be Isaac's wife. They left, and Rebekah and Isaac loved each other - they had a good life. Rebekah struggled to get pregnant, but eventually did. She had twins - but there was a lot going on when she was pregnant with these babies and she sought the help of the Lord. He told her that the "elder shall serve the younger." This would come to pass many years later when the birthright was given to Jacob instead of Esau. Isaac thought he was giving the birthright to Esau, but it was Jacob - under the direction of Rebekah. However, instead of taking that blessing away, Isaac let Jacob keep those blessings and gave another to Esau. Rebekah loved her son - and was worried for him when she found out that Esau was going to kill Jacob. She send Jacob to her brothers home to find a wife, and we don't actually know if she ever saw him again. She loved the Lord. Rebekah wanted to follow through with personal revelation, she wanted to serve, she was willing to go when asked, she wanted to do what she felt was right and she was blessed for doing that. Julie B. I've been thinking about what is really essential. Like, if I just chose ONE thing and put all my effort and attention there, what would be the ONE thing? Identity and purpose for moms. I know that sounds like two things, but I explain how it's really one thing in the episode. And what are the obstacles that prevent us from knowing our identity and purpose? Or if we know it, from living it? Fear, doubt and confusion. These are both spiritual obstacles and emotional obstacles. I have some theories as to the antidotes, which I also discuss in the episode. But basically- I'll reiterate what is in the intro: when you know who you are, you can be the best you at what you do. Mentioned in this episode: Greg McKeown Henry B. Eyring Bonnie Cordon Julie B. I consider Projects those things we do by ourselves for ourselves which are pretty easy and that we like. But then Warrior Woman projects are when you need to tap into divine help just to get out of bed. Let me explain, cause it depends! “A [woman] filled with the love of God, is not content with blessing [her] family alone, but ranges through the whole world, anxious to bless the whole human race.” ― Prophet Joseph Smith “You are doing better than you think you are. But we can be better.”— Julie B. Beck

Beck, she states, “I was taught years ago that when our priorities are out of order, we lose power. If we need power and influence to carry out our mission, then our priorities have to be straight. Years ago I began using a system that works for me, and maybe it will work for you. There was a time when I needed to prioritize, and in one of those sacred meetings between me and the Lord, He gave me three categories that I have worked from, and they have been a guide in my life. The categories are the essential things, the necessary things, and the nice-to-do things. I started writing those things down.” Take some time to think about your schedule pre-pandemic vs mid-pandemic. "What is the Lord revealing to me?" That's the question at the center of our study this week. There is a long prophetic priority placed on each of us developing our ability to receive and recognize what the Lord wants us to know, feel, do, and become. In this episode we share some of those tools and how they work, practically, in our daily life. Show Notes: N. Eldon Tanner, "Warnings from Outer Space," October 1972. Thomas S. Luke, of course, wrote the Gospel of Luke wherein he detailed in great literary style Jesus' ministry. Luke also wrote the Acts of the Apostles to highlight how that ministry changed the lives and spiritual capacities of his apostles. We have talked about the idea of REVELATION and that Latter-day Saints believe it's possible, but how does that show up in real LIFE?? This week Jon and Steph talk about real relevant revelation happening in real-time! Try to say that three times fast. ;) As Julie B. Beck (former Relief Society General President of The Church) has said: “The ability to qualify for, receive, and act on personal revelation is the single most important skill that can be acquired in this life, … It requires a conscious effort to diminish distractions, but having the Spirit of revelation makes it possible to prevail over opposition and persist in faith through difficult days and essential routine tasks. … We can feel certain that the Lord is pleased when we feel the Spirit working through us. With [personal revelation] we cannot fail; without it we cannot succeed.” (emphasis added.
