Jake gives Dusti a lesson straight from the Mormon lesson manual about Alma, Korihor, the Zoramites, and a funny little thing called the Rameumptom. This isn't your Mom's Sunday School lesson though. Jake has added a little twist to it. Listen to find out!
Is the story of Korihor the story of a missed opportunity? In the Book of Mormon, an anti-Christ named Korhior is struck dumb by Alma using the power of God. Could there have been a neurological contributor to Korihor's sudden loss of speech? But even more importantly, could Korihor have been rehabilitated, physically and spiritually, if he had received the same treatment Alma had received when he had been struck down by God? Wade Greenwood explores the possibilities and what we can learn from them.

Korihor was an anti-christ. He went around preaching there was no Christ. He said the church was telling people false things to make them follow their leaders. He said they did this so people would pay them. Alma said he had never taken any money to lead the church and did it because the teachings of the church make people happy. HE also said “i have all things that prove there is a god! the earth and all things created on it!” and he told Korihor he knew he was lying.
What can we learn from the anti-Christ, Korihor? John talks about why his story was included and how we can apply lessons from his to modern-day challenges to our faith in the Savior. John also talks bout how to respond to people who might question your beliefs and discusses why the devil's promises always leave to misery.

Our Mothers Knew It with Maria EckersleyA Creative Study of Come, Follow MeBook of Mormon [ALMA 30-31] Insights“The Virtue of the Word of God”July 15 - July 21 2024WEEK 29: SUMMARY=================Lesson Summary:Korihor's life is only mentioned in one chapter of the Book of Mormon but his legacy of anti-Christ teachings will impact generations. This week, we'll see the Lord's efforts to bring him back to truth before it's too late. He'll send him Alma to try to open his eyes to the evidence of God that is already around him. Alma will also be sent to teach the apostate Zoramites. They had separated from the Church and concocted their own version of the gospel. Alma and his fellow missionaries sense the risks and brace for the weeks ahead by praying for the divine, enabling power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ to bring them comfort, strength, and peace.Questions to Consider:Alma 30:59-60 | Where do you see selfishness in Korihor's teaching? Where do you see it in the Zoramites prayer? What is the antidote to selfishness? Is it represented in these chapters?Alma 31:5 | Do you think power is limited to righteous words? Are words planted by the adversary equally impactful on the mind? What does Elder Rasband's “Words Matter” talk add to this discussion?Alma 31:30-38 | What does Alma pray for instead of healing from his affliction/infirmity? What does he receive?CHAPTERS=========00:00:13 INSIGHTS INTRODUCTION00:04:39 INSIGHTS CHAPTER SUMMARY00:09:42 SPARK 1: FATHERS OF THE FRONTLINE00:18:55 SPARK 2: THE KING'S SPEECH00:29:16 SPARK 3: DIVINE PAIRINGS00:36:17 QUESTIONS00:40:47 WRAP UPLINKS=====WEB: https://www.gather.meckmom.comINSTAGRAM: Instagram @meckmomlifePODCAST: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast...CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST DISCLAIMER=================================This podcast represents my own thoughts and opinions. Send us a Text Message. From Come Follow Me:The accounts in Alma 30–31 clearly demonstrate the power of words—for evil and for good. The “flattering” and “great swelling words” of a false teacher named Korihor threatened to bring “many souls down to destruction” (Alma 30:31, 47). Similarly, the teachings of a Nephite dissenter named Zoram led a whole group of people to fall “into great errors” and “pervert the ways of the Lord” (Alma 31:9, 11).In contrast, Alma had unwavering faith that the word of God would have a “more powerful effect upon the minds of the people than the sword, or anything else” (Alma 31:5). Alma's words expressed eternal truth and drew upon the powers of Jesus Christ to silence Korihor (see Alma 30:39–50), and they invited His blessing on those who went with him to bring the Zoramites back to the truth (see Alma 31:31–38). These are valuable examples for followers of Christ today when false messages are common. We can find truth by trusting, as Alma did, “the virtue of the word of God” (Alma 31:5).The thoughts, ideas, and beliefs we express on this channel do not officially represent The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The 16th year of the reign of the judges marks a significant period of peace after a devastating war, as the Nephites and the children of Ammon recover and honor the law of Moses. However, this tranquility is shattered in the 17th year by the emergence of Korihor, an eloquent Antichrist who preaches against the coming of Christ and the teachings of the prophets. Korihor's persuasive rhetoric leads many Nephites astray, but he faces resistance from the people of Ammon and the high priests in various lands. Ultimately, he is brought before Alma, who challenges Korihor's beliefs and, after a dramatic confrontation, strikes him dumb. Korihor confesses his deceit, revealing that he was influenced by the devil. As Korihor wanders, begging for food, his story serves as a cautionary tale, emphasizing that Satan abandons his followers in times of need. Meanwhile, Alma and his missionary companions prepare to counter the growing apostasy among the Zoramites, showcasing the enduring battle between faith and falsehood in the land of Zarahemla.
An in-depth study of Alma 30-31, recounting the preaching of Korihor and the Zoramites upon the Rameumptom. This lesson focuses on targeting the Atonement, anti-religious rhetoric, irrationality and authoritarianism, rationalizing sin, the argument from design, sign-seeking, the sense of superiority, trying the virtue of the word of God, the gifts of the Spirit, and more.

Alma, Chapters 30-34
Those inside the church and outside talk around each other. Inside, the discussion is about authority and keys; outside the talk is about the ethics of leaders and the organization. Alma and Korihor addressed these very issues in Alma 30.
Alma 32: 21 "And now as I said concerning faith—faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things; therefore if ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true." I was listening to a Q & A recently from Elder Bednar (https://open.spotify.com/episode/1qpA7uJ4t2fLzJwVDYJ9Rd). I had a thought about something he said, Korihor the anti-Christ wanted a sign. He didn't show FAITH it was all about SEEING. How often do I do that? We want to have proof and know with our eyes if something is true. Join me today as I share 6 principles from the Gospel Library about faith. 1. Faith in Jesus Christ can motivate us to follow His perfect example 2. Our faith can lead us to do good works, obey the commandments, and repent of our sins 3. Our faith can help us overcome temptation 4. The Lord will work mighty miracles in our life according to our faith 5. Faith in Jesus Christ helps us receive spiritual and physical healing through His Atonement 6. When times of trial come, faith can give us strength to press forward and face our hardships with courage. Even when the future seems uncertain, our faith in the Savior can give us peace www.bethnewellcoaching.com bethnewellcoaching@gmail.com
Today I sat down with my oldest daughter “Korihor” and talk about her experiences with purity culture and the shame that accompanies the teachings of modesty. All of these teachings stem from patriarchy and it's harming girls and boys from young ages and we need to do better!
