Len Kasper and Harry Caray have something in common. They both broadcasted the Cubs on TV for exactly 16 seasons.Len has since moved on to become the voice of the White Sox radio broadcast, and because of the cross-town rivalry, the move didn't exactly thrill a lot of Cubs fans. But on this episode, Len talks about where his heart was at when he made that decision, and he has some fun re-living the 2003 Marlins and 2016 Cubs in their championship seasons.Go to www.setupman.net and subscribe to our mailing list to become a part of Setup Man Nation and so you never miss a show! Jim Deshaies, better known as JD, once went on a campaign to get one vote for the Hall of Fame. It was all for fun and yes, he did that one vote! Deshaies spent 12 seasons pitching in the big leagues, half of them with the Houston Astros who were then in the National League. Shortly after he retired, JD found himself in the Astros TV booth as an analyst and 16 years later, found himself in the same position at Wrigley Field. He's been with the Cubs for the last 11 seasons adding keen observations while keeping a dry sense of humor. “Mark Grace lost his gig in Arizona," Deshaies says on the show. "The Diamondbacks came hard after Bob Brenly, (who had been with the Cubs) and Len Kasper, the teams lead TV voice said how would you like to come here?” Deshaies said yes and for the last 11 seasons has worked with Kasper and most recently, Jon “Boog” Sciambi. “ Boog's great. We have a lot of fun.”JD has also watched this Cubs team do something few expected them to do, contend for a playoff position Deshaies notes how free agents such as Cody Bellinger and Dansby Swanson have made a huge difference. Bellinger signed a one year deal and Deshaies knows it will take a big number to keep him, especially with Scott Boras as his agent. Now 63, Deshaies has no intentions of retiring. He loves the gig working along side Jon “Boog” Sciambi But this native of a small town in upstate New York which is close to the Canadian border claims he have no problems if this was it. He's had a wonderful career. For now it would appear that career is expected to continue.Tell me a story I don't know is partnered with Last Word on Sports Media Podcast and proudly presented by Mr. Duct and the book, “Tell Me A Story I Don't Know: Conversations with Chicago Sports Legends” is now available for presale through Triumph Books on Amazon books. Also stay engaged with all the content at www.lastwordonsports.com/podcasts

Jesse Rogers is in for Connor McKnight on this week's edition of White Sox Weekly! Jesse discusses the recent moves and the overall impact within the White Sox and is joined by Kiley McDaniel and Len Kasper!
Being the marketing and sales director of a major league team isn't easy, unless you win. And for Brooks Boyer, this Chicago White Sox season has been a downer. There's nothing he can do about but that continue making sure the fans have a great experience. Boyer has been with the White Sox since 2004 when Ozzie Guillen took over as manager. One year later the team won its first World Series in 88 years and then, in 2006, drew nearly 3 million fans.“You never know what the product is going to look like…if the White Sox are going to win 100 games, 90 games and win the division, they're going to go .500 and under .500. It's out of our control. You can't control what happens inside those lines but we certainly can maximize the experience which eventually maximizes the revenue," Boyer says on the show.Prior to his arrival, Boyer spent ten years with the Bulls including some championship seasons. Among his achievements, hooking up the company producing the champagne that would used if the Bulls won another title. They did and Boyer handed Michael Jordan a bottle as he entered a triumphant locker room.Boyer also played a significant role in choosing the White Sox announcers including Jason Benetti, Steve Stone and Len Kasper, all guests on this podcast. If Boyer's name sounds somewhat familiar, he played college basketball at Notre Dame under Digger Phelps and John MacLeod. And he was captain of the team in 1993.Tell me a story I don't know is partnered with Last Word on Sports Media Podcast and proudly sponsored by Mr.Duct. Then, Chris Catillo, Red Sox Writer, joins to discuss White Sox vs Red Sox. Finally, Zach Remillard and Len Kasper join the show!
Both the White Sox and Cubs are having disappointing seasons so far. Which means no Chicago baseball fan is happy right now. And, there are very few Chicagoans will admit they root for both the White Sox and Cubs. The tension between the two ball clubs may be Chicago's most well-known rivalry. One person who has lived on both sides of the fence is Len Kasper. Kasper just began his third season as the radio voice of the Sox, but before that he was with the Cubs for 15 years. Host Jacoby Cochran sat down with Kasper during his first Sox season in 2021 to talk about the significance of the crosstown rivalry. Want some more City Cast Chicago news? He never played in a major league playoff game yet has two World Series rings. Who could this be? Darrin Jackson, former big leaguer with the Chicago Cubs, Whitesox and several other teams and for the last 22 years, an analyst on Whitesox broadcasts.Jackson had a solid major league career punctuated by his excellent defense in the outfield. How do you compile the best of a year? Try almost impossible but we managed to cull ten vignettes from 36 compelling interviews. While we left out such wonderful segments from the likes of Greeny (Mike Greenberg), Bob Costas, Ron Coomer, Laura Okmin and Len Kasper just to mention a few, we stitched together ones from ten alluring episodes. For example: Mark Giangreco and Dan McNeil, two towering figures in Chicago media who were fired many believe, because of today's political correctness. And then there was Sarah Kustok and Eddie Olczyk who overcame adversity to remain atop their professions. Keith Olbermann and Dave Wannstedt relay hilarious stories, one about coming to Chicago and other who nearly did.We were very fortunate to have 36 worthwhile contributors be so accommodating and willing to share so much of their lives with us. We can't thank them enough for lifting “Tell me a story I don't know” to a standard we are most proud of.And we're ready to go with year 2 on January 18th, a two part episode with one of the most recognizable figures in Chicago's sports media landscape.
