The guys continue to not be able to comprehend what the Tigers are thinking when it comes to Tarik Skubal.
The Mets finally pull the trigger on the move they've been circling for what feels like forever, landing Luis Robert Jr. and immediately reshaping the conversation around their lineup. Evan, Tiki, and Shaun break down why the deal makes sense even with the obvious red flags: recent struggles, durability concerns, and the price tag. They debate the upside of a true change of scenery in New York, what Robert's defense means for a team that badly needed real center field stability, and why this is a low risk swing with potentially massive reward. Plus, the ripple effect: where does this leave the Mets in the Cody Bellinger chase, and why Yankees fans might be feeling more confident today than they did yesterday as the staredown with Scott Boras continues. The hour also touches on growing buzz around the Giants, adding another major New York storyline to a packed opening segment.
The Mets finally make the move everyone assumed would never happen, acquiring Luis Robert Jr. and forcing a hard look at what this roster is really becoming. Evan, Tiki, and Shaun debate why the trade makes sense defensively, why the upside is real despite two rough seasons, and why the only true risk might be financial. The conversation turns into a deeper breakdown of David Stearns' long term vision, the famous “painting” analogy, and whether this lineup is better, worse, or just wildly different after losing Pete Alonso and reshaping the middle of the field. They dive into Robert's change of scenery potential, the Mets' desperate need for a real center fielder, and how bad last year's production truly was at that spot. Plus, the ripple effect on the Cody Bellinger sweepstakes, why the Mets likely have a short term offer out, and why Yankees fans may feel more confident as the staredown with Scott Boras continues. The big question remains: when you squint at this roster, is the picture starting to come together or does it still feel unfinished?
Skubal's agent Scott Boras says he's willing to come to the bargaining table
8:00 HOUR: Scott Boras is back at it, Did Joe Burrow take a shot at Josh Allen?
1/21/26 - Scott Boras is at it again, NFL Head Coach Matchmaker, Who is the next Indiana? A bold offseason move for the Lions
The guys hear from some more callers on the Tarik Skubal situation and his agent Scott Boras' most recent comments.
Valenti and Stoney (in for Rico) opened the show with their thoughts on the CFP National Championship last night. They transitioned into some Lions talk, specifically about their hiring of Drew Petzing as their new offensive coordinator and the fans who have been critical of the move. In the third hour, they had Mike blind rank the NFL's PxP guys before discussing the Pistons and Red Wings. The guys rounded out today with some reactions to the never-ending Skubal/Tigers situation and the recent comments made by Scott Boras.
The 2026 international signing period is underway. On "Days of Roar," Evan Petzold and Chris Brown react to the Detroit Tigers signing three international prospects to seven-figure bonuses: catcher Manuel Bolivar, shortstop Oscar Tineo and outfielder Randy Santana — and debate which teenage prospect has the best chance to develop into a special player. We discuss the remaining free agents who fit the Tigers' roster and payroll, such as starter Chris Bassitt and reliever Seranthony Domínguez, then answer a listener question: If the Tigers don't make another move, is the current roster good enough to reach the postseason in 2026? Ben Badler of Baseball America joins the show for a deep dive into the 2026 international class, evaluating the Tigers' top signings and explaining how the Tigers can gain an edge in the international market moving forward. He also provides an update on record-breaking signee Cris Rodriguez from the 2025 international class after his standout performance in the Dominican Summer League. There's more Tarik Skubal vs. Tigers discussion, as we try to figure out if the salary arbitration showdown is really just a Scott Harris vs. Scott Boras battle (or an owners vs. union battle) — and whether there's a path for both sides to walk away satisfied. The New York Yankees make a quiet move by signing Seth Brown to a minor league deal, but that is just background noise compared to the real drama. All eyes are on Cody Bellinger and the contract decision that could reshape New York baseball. The Yankees have reportedly put their best offer on the table, a five-year deal they refuse to go past. Meanwhile, the New York Mets are lurking with the same strategy they used earlier this offseason, a massive short-term contract designed to outbid everyone without long-term risk. Add in Scott Boras working the market and the possibility of the Toronto Blue Jays jumping in, and the pressure is mounting. Is Bellinger better off locking in long-term security with the Yankees, or betting on himself one more time with a short, high-dollar deal elsewhere? The Mets' roster strategy, the Yankees' luxury tax stance, and the shrinking free agent market all collide as this decision reaches its breaking point. The clock is ticking, and a resolution feels imminent.
Evan lays out why Cody Bellinger is simply not a realistic option for the Mets, even with the Yankees reportedly sitting around five years and $160 million. If the Mets refused to go long-term for Kyle Tucker or Pete Alonso, why would they suddenly cave to Scott Boras now? The discussion turns to what desperation would actually look like, why David Stearns and Steve Cohen are unlikely to abandon their principles, and why relying on the kids may be the real outcome if no clean pivot exists. The guys also agree that pitching should be the priority regardless, and explain why even missing on Tucker does not mean the Mets are about to hand out contracts they do not believe in.
With Kyle Tucker off the board, the Mets are staring into the void and Evan lays out why Cody Bellinger is not a realistic “panic buy,” even with rumors of the Yankees sitting around five years and $160M. If the Mets wouldn't go long for Tucker or Alonso, why would they suddenly cave to Scott Boras? Then the debate turns into the uncomfortable part: what's the actual pivot? Evan pitches a wild, short-term, mega-AAV idea for Bo Bichette that's basically a Tucker-style offer to blow him away, get an opt-out, and take another swing at free agency before 30. The problem: where does he play, and how much run prevention are you willing to sacrifice to get a real bat? Tiki pushes back on the defensive domino effect, the “versatility” trap, and the weekly second-guessing Mets fans would live through. The guys kick around the alternatives (including a one-year Eugenio Suárez power play), plus why pitching still has to be the priority no matter what. And of course, the segment ends with the same challenge: if you hate the plan, tell us a better one.
The Cubs did stuff and picked an obvious, but rare for them, direction by trading an overrated prospect for an upside starting pitcher and then spent some of their "wheelbarrows of cash" on a real hitter. David Brown is here to discuss what the Cubs do with Nico Hoerner and Matt Shaw, where Kyle Tucker, Cody Bellinger and Boba Chette end up. How the Red Sox completely bungled the Bregman-Rafael Devers thing to an epic proportion (even for them). Scott Boras does not seem like a guy you want doing any electrical work on your home. And Dave reveals and explains his real-life MLB Hall of Fame ballot. And more.
"Thank you, David... As you know, I'm going through a lot." David Samson is here to discuss Scott Boras buffoonery, LeBron and Rich Paul's influence, and Netflix getting into the podcast game. Also, Dan is so infatuated with a pear-shaped croquette that Tony barely gets to his football observations. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Mike and Rico provide an update to the Tigers/Tarik Skubal situation.
While Wild Card Weekend dominated the headlines, a major MLB bomb dropped in the background. The New York Yankees are now operating under the assumption that Cody Bellinger could sign elsewhere as contract talks stall over years, not dollars. Evan, Tiki, and Shaun break down the reported standoff with Scott Boras, why the Yankees are refusing to negotiate against themselves, and why this situation feels eerily similar to what the New York Mets dealt with last year. The conversation pivots to potential fallback options, including interest around Kyle Tucker, the realities of short term high AAV deals, and why teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays loom large in the background. Plus, a deeper debate on free agency leverage, market reality, and why Yankee fans may want to stay calm as this staring contest plays out.
From 'Baseball Isn't Boring' (subscribe here): The Cubs aren't fooling around. First, it was trading for Edward Cabrera, and now it is signing Alex Bregman to a five-year, $175 million deal. So, what does it mean for the Cubs? What does it mean to the teams - particularly the Red Sox - who didn't get him? What does it mean to Scott Boras? There is a lot to pick through when it comes to this free agent news, and Bradfo is here for all of it. As the baseball world prepares for Spring Training being a month away, some of the biggest free agents in the sport remain on the open market. Kyle Tucker, Cody Bellinger and Bo Bichette are the three names that continue to circulate among the big spenders, but the question remains: where are they going to land come Opening Day?On this episode of Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jordan Shusterman is joined by guest host Jack Harris from the California Post as they discuss the free-agent game of musical chairs, as well as take a look at whether the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers could make a play for any of them if the deal is right. They also talk about why the Dodgers' finances might be a reason for their quiet offseason, despite signing All-Star closer Edwin Díaz early on.Later, Jordan is joined by Lance Brozdowski from Marquee Sports Network to break down the Chicago Cubs trading for Edward Cabrera from the Miami Marlins and why they were able to get him for a smaller-than-anticipated package. After that, Jordan and Jack examine Scott Boras trying to make history with Tarik Skubals' arbitration case before making their picks for The Good, The Bad & The Uggla.3:34 – The Opener: Big free agents still out there13:02 – What are the Dodgers' next move?30:43 – Breaking down the Cubs–Cabrera trade56:21 – A new Rockies pitching theory?1:00:10 – Scott Boras Scoreboard: Skubal update1:08:06 – The Good, The Bad & The Uggla Subscribe to Baseball Bar-B-Cast on your favorite podcast app:

On this extended edition of Deals & Deadlines, Matt Chernoff and sports agent/lawyer Hadley Engelhardt connect the biggest sports business stories across college football, baseball, and the NFL — all through the lens of money, leverage, media rights, and power. The show opens with a deep dive into the College Football Playoff business model, including the $4 million payout per team and how conferences like the SEC and Big Ten are stacking massive revenue advantages. The conversation expands into playoff expansion, Notre Dame’s exclusion, Group of Five access, TV windows competing with the NFL, and whether the current system actually delivers the best teams — or just the most profitable ones. From there, Matt and Hadley examine the future of bowl games, opt-outs, ESPN’s potential revenue losses, legal exposure, and why the postseason exhibition model may be nearing its breaking point. The discussion then turns to a landmark moment in college athletics: private equity officially entering the space, highlighted by Utah’s reported equity partnership that could reach $500 million. What does shared ownership mean for control, branding, NIL, Olympic sports, and the long-term soul of college athletics? On the baseball side, the show covers MLB Winter Meetings, where Scott Boras has become a full-scale celebrity power broker, securing over $1.2 billion in contracts while reshaping how agents create leverage. The episode also explores how a looming MLB CBA expiration is shortening contracts and pushing teams toward less risk, plus ESPN’s shift away from Sunday Night Baseball toward a fractured, streaming-first model. Finally, the show wraps with the NFL and global sports media: – Philip Rivers potentially returning at age 44 and what that conversation looks like from an agent’s perspective – The sudden drop in Taylor Swift’s NFL TV exposure and whether it’s a branding reset – And World Cup format changes, hydration breaks, and why “player safety” may really mean more ad inventory Smart, candid, and brutally honest — this is Deals & Deadlines at its most comprehensive. #DealsAndDeadlines #SportsBusiness #CollegeFootballPlayoff #CFPExpansion #MediaRights #BusinessOfSports #PrivateEquity #NIL #CollegeAthletics #MLBWinterMeetings #ScottBoras #MLBContracts #NFLBusiness #PhilipRivers #TaylorSwift #SportsMedia #StreamingSports #WorldCup2026 #FIFA #SportsLaw #ESPN #TVRatings #FootballBusiness #BaseballBusiness #sportseconomicsSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Jerry is back with an update full of Mets venom, featuring an emotional Sal Licata saying "Good Riddance" to Edwin Díaz, while Frank The Tank vents his rage over the team's direction. Plus, baseball super-agent Scott Boras drops his signature wordplay about his client, pitcher Tarik Skubal, and the NFL's biggest surprise of the day: the Colts shockingly signed Philip Rivers to their practice squad.
Jerry returns with the final update highlighting the Dodgers' reliever needs met by signing Edwin Díaz and playing Evan Roberts' livid reaction. Mets President David Stearns faced the inevitable question: will losing Díaz affect the push to sign Pete Alonso? Meanwhile, Scott Boras provided a classic soundbite, calling Ranger Suarez “armed and rangerous." Add to that a Moment of the Day featuring Al trying to name more than a few Utah Jazz players of all time.
The hour opens with a bizarre suggestion: Bringing in Peter Schwartz for a "muckbang" featuring mozzarella sticks. The focus quickly snaps back to the Mets meltdown, as a barrage of calls debates who is to blame for losing Edwin Díaz to the Dodgers. In the final update, we hear Evan Roberts' furious reaction to the move and David Stearns' non-committal answer on Pete Alonso. The action isn't just baseball—get a classic soundbite from agent Scott Boras, hear Vernon Maxwell call out the "dirty" old Utah Jazz, and catch the setup for this weekend's legendary Army/Navy game.
Reactions are still coming in following the shocking news of Edwin Díaz leaving the New York Mets after six seasons and joining the reigning back-to-back champion Los Angeles Dodgers. We're starting to get a better picture of what led the All-Star closer to take his talents out west.On this episode of Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman get into the offer that the Mets made to try to keep Díaz. While they fell short on the dollars side, some are left wondering if the reliever simply wanted to join Los Angeles instead. The question now is: Where do the Mets go from here?Later, Jake and Jordan talk about super-agent Scott Boras giving his annual address at the Winter Meetings, where he discusses all of the big free agents he's trying to secure deals for. Post-Gazette Pirates insiders Jason Mackey and Colin Beazley recap Day 2 of the MLB winter meetings in Orlando, Fla. This show is presented by FanDuel. What did super-agent Scott Boras have to say about the Pirates' aggressiveness at this year's winter meetings? The Pirates missed out on Kyle Schwarber, who re-signed with his old team, the Phillies, but what does Pittsburgh's offer tell us about how they're approaching the offseason? Who are among Jason and Colin's top choices remaining for GM Ben Cherington via free agency or trade? Eugenio Suarez? Brandon Lowe? Is it a failure if they don't get anything done? And is all the talk about a more aggressive Pirates offseason ringing true? Our duo tackles those topics and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Our favorite Steelers-Dolphins games with Ben's first game there, Dupree's hit on Matt Moore, and the mud game. Ken Rosenthal said the Pirates are open to trading Jared Jones and Bubba Chandler, but only for a huge haul. Scott Boras said it's the right step for the Pirates to engage in big-time free agents.
Former MLB pitcher Matt Clement joined the show. Matt thinks the effort for Kyle Schwarber was ‘legit' on the Pirates' end, but getting him away from a big market like Philadelphia was already an uphill battle. He's not sure what kind of offer would have lured Schwarber away from the Phillies. Did the Pirates have any chance at Pete Alonso and were they even interested? The guys asked Matt about the Scott Boras factor and if he will still push his clients to simply take the most money if that money is coming from the Pirates. Matt reacted to the Gregory Soto signing and thinks it's a ‘great' pickup for the bullpen that needed a left-handed reliever. Matt credited Ben Cherington for putting together a group that has a strong pitching staff, but certainly has holdups on what he has acquired offensively. Matt thinks there needs to be a conglomerate of hitters to turn things around.
The Pirates made a signing last night, but it's not one to get very excited about. Gregory Soto, a 2X All Star lefty reliever, isn't knocking the guys' socks off. Poni, a split-fan between the Pirates and Mets, said Soto was a terrible pitcher in New York. The guys spent time knocking this signing before jumping down the throat of Ben Cherington for another bad off-season move to add to the resume. The big question is – why is a left-handed reliever the first move the Pirates made? Former MLB pitcher Matt Clement joined the show. Matt thinks the effort for Kyle Schwarber was ‘legit' on the Pirates' end, but getting him away from a big market like Philadelphia was already an uphill battle. TK reacted to the Penguins losing a game last night after giving up the tying goal with 0.1 seconds remaining. He said it happened because they never thought it would happen. Tyler feels like the team has lost a little bit of their swagger, specifically when they get into shootout situations, where they continue to lose. He said it takes one win for them in that spot to maybe get things rolling. TK talked about some of the things guys need to learn when approaching a shootout. Tyler deciphered the difference between going down the ice in a shootout versus doing it via a breakaway. TK said it's all about a goalie being about to read the blade and puck placement.
