PJ talks to Chef Shane Smith in studio Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
A month into the season and the Chicago White Sox are flirting with .500 with only 1 game out of the division. The AL Central will be up for grabs as the Detroit Tigers lost their ace in Skubal for the rest of the 26' season. Nick Murawski of the @GoodGuysTB Podcast joined the crew to talk the current state of affairs. Tune into The Blackout Show on The Guillen Grid as we dive into the pitching staff the rest of the season with McDougal and Shane Smith injured, who is part of the core moving forward, and the Murakami circumstances.
Chuck Garfien sits down with Josh to take a big-picture look at where the Chicago White Sox are in their “learning to win” phase and how clubhouse chemistry is starting to take shape, on and off the field, including a recent team outing to a Chicago Blackhawks game. They also dig into the team's offseason approach, discussing how prospect development influenced free agent decisions and what that says about the organization's timeline. The conversation includes a candid moment as Josh reacts to how much of last year's roster is still in place and what that continuity could mean moving forward. The episode also gets into the next wave of talent, from Noah Schultz and his early MLB impressions to where top arms like Hagen Smith and Tanner McDougal stand in their development. Chuck and Josh break down roster decisions, rotation vs. bullpen, and what factors go into those calls, while also highlighting rising names like Colson Montgomery and Braden Montgomery. Plus, insight into Munetaka Murakami's adjustment to life in the majors, updates on Shane Smith and Kyle Teel, and how the organization is balancing development with the push to compete.
Join Gareth and Gary for another episode of Dishing It Out as they welcome pastry chef extraordinaire and all-round master baker, Shane Smith.Shane takes us through the early days of his career as a pastry chef, from old-school, army-style hotel kitchens to the pull of the pastry section across the pass. The lads dig into what makes pastry different from savoury cooking: following recipes exactly, how confidence and “feel” only come with repetition and how gluten-free and vegan baking have evolved as better ingredients have come on stream.Shane also introduces his new cookbook, Loaf Tin Bakes, built entirely around the humble 2lb loaf tin and including recipes for classic cakes, focaccia, Christmas cakes, and even a Brunch ice cream in a tin. They chat about moving away from fine dining patisserie towards simple, joyful home bakes, and how he's found a passion for sharing his skills with others as a teacher. We've also got this week's Nespresso Dish of the Week with Gary in the hot seat and then it's over to your Culinary Conundrums, as the lads help a listener whose food tastes great but looks underwhelming on the plate.Keep those questions coming to food@goloudnow.com .
Chuck Garfien is joined by MLB Network and CHSN White Sox analyst Dan Plesac for a conversation on the early stages of the 2026 season. They open with Munetaka Murakami's power surge and why Plesac sees shades of Kyle Schwarber in his game. Plesac also shares his thoughts on Davis Martin's impressive form and the early impact of rookie lefty Noah Schultz. Later, the conversation dives into the White Sox rotation's standout numbers and what it will take for Shane Smith to work his way back to the big leagues. Plesac offers his perspective on modern pitching strategies like using an opener and what steps the Sox need to take to climb back to .500. He also reflects on his passion for covering the team as a lifelong South Side fan and shares why the return of the Southside rally polo has him fired up for the season ahead.
Chef Shane Smith is in studio with Alison on Weekend Breakfast to celebrate his fab first book! And he doesn't arrive empty handed! IS IT CAKE!!!? Yes, it most certainly is! Droool.Shane a tells us about his new book 'Loaf Tin Bakes' – a whole cookbook dedicated to what you can make in one tin, from simple lemon drizzle-style treats to savoury garlic dough balls, pizza bread swirls and easy brown bread! Chuck Garfien sits down with Davis Martin to discuss his unique perspective as the longest-tenured player on a young White Sox roster. Martin shares his view on his leadership role, what he's seeing from the team's clubhouse chemistry and breaks down a gritty, hard-fought series in Kansas City. Martin also dives into his performance on the mound, addressing early-season results, the state of his stuff, and how he handles outside criticism of the starting rotation. Plus, he discusses the debut of top prospect Noah Schultz, touches on Shane Smith's time in Charlotte as he works his way back to the majors, and reflects on whether this version of himself is the best he's brought to the big leagues so far.
TV chef Shane Smith tells Oliver about his new recipe book Loaf Tin Bakes.
Chuck Garfien sits down with White Sox Triple-A manager Chad Pinder to break down one of the organization's biggest storylines: the rise of Noah Schultz who is about to make his MLB debut. Pinder shares his first impressions of Schultz, whether he was surprised by how quickly the left-hander reached the big leagues or if any key adjustments helped spark his early-season jump. He also takes us inside the moment Schultz got the call to the majors and the reaction from teammates. The conversation also dives into the hot start of Sam Antonacci, highlighting his baseball IQ, defensive transition to the outfield, and areas still needing development—while Pinder reflects on making a similar jump himself with the Oakland Athletics. Plus, updates on top arms Hagen Smith and Tanner McDougal; insight on managing Shane Smith after his return to Triple-A; and a look back at Pinder's own major league debut...that included a pair of coincidences.
After a rough 1-5 start, the White Sox are an even 5-5 over their last 10 games with some more excitement along the way. Noah Schultz will be making his MLB debut on Tuesday, and Jordan Lazowski, Nik Gaur, and Brett Haffner are here to talk about it and much more! They start by talking about the confirmed call-up of Schultz and rumored call-up of Sam Antonacci. What does "success" look like for Schultz this year? And how can Antonacci bring a missing element to a struggling White Sox offense? At the same time, Schultz's promotion comes to fill in Shane Smith's spot in the rotation after he was sent to Triple-A after just three starts. Was this too quick of a change by the team for someone who was their Opening Day starter? How quickly could we see Smith return? And what does this all say about some of the changes made to the pitching department in previous years? Finally, the crew talks about the offense - Will Venable and the White Sox don't seem to be concerned, but should they be? Make sure to tune in to a packed episode!
Among the possible starts the White Sox could have out of the gate in the 2026 season, a 1-5 start is close to as rock bottom as it could get. Duke Coughlin, Nik Gaur, and Brett Haffner try to make sense of what we've seen so far before Friday's home opener while explaining why it's far too early to hit the panic button or get flashbacks to 2024. In this episode, they breakdown the start particularly by Shane Smith and the bullpen, while also exploring some of the team's defensive woes and starting lineup decisions. There is still a long way to go in the season, but the crew discusses what they need to see change and what will change based simply on, as Brett puts it, the "law of averages." Get yourself set before Friday's home opener with this episode!
Matt Spiegel and Laurence Holmes discussed the White Sox demoting Opening Day starter Shane Smith to Triple-A.
Mike Mulligan and David Haugh reacted to the White Sox demoting Opening Day starter Shane Smith to Triple-A.
In the second hour, Mike Mulligan and David Haugh reacts to Seiya Suzuki set to make his return on the field Friday and the White Sox's plan with Shane Smith. Later, Mully and Haugh were joined by New York Post writer, Mark Cannizzaro to previews the 2026 Masters
Mike Mulligan and David Haugh were joined by Score baseball insider Bruce Levine to discuss Cubs right-hander Cade Horton needing to undergo season-ending elbow surgery and the White Sox's demotion of Opening Day starter Shane Smith to Triple-A.
In the final hour, Mike Mulligan and David Haugh were joined by Score baseball insider Bruce Levine to discuss Cubs right-hander Cade Horton needing to undergo season-ending elbow surgery and the White Sox's demotion of Opening Day starter Shane Smith to Triple-A. Later, Mully and Haugh continued to discuss how the Cubs could fill Horton's void.
While early, Greg examines why a 1-5 start is concerning given how bad the White Sox pitching has been relative to the rest of the league, and why 2025 breakout star Shane Smith might need a trip to the minors. Plus why ABS is finally holding bad umpires accountable. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. In the summer of 2020, 20-year-old Shane Eric James Smith vanished in Calgary. He was last seen on June 6, and within days police believed he had been shot and killed by a friend at a southeast Calgary residence. In the weeks that followed, the Calgary Police Service charged Ian Charles Abercrombie with homicide, and two others with offences related to the handling of Shane's body, which has never been recovered.Abercrombie later pleaded guilty to criminal negligence causing death and indignity to a human body in connection with Shane's death — a conviction that left many feeling the sentence didn't match the loss.Shane's family, friends, and volunteers have spent years searching the Bow River and surrounding areas, desperate for answers and for the chance to lay Shane to rest.In this episode, we speak with Shane's sister, Cassandra, about who Shane was, the painful search for his remains, and the emotional toll of a case that still leaves far more questions than closure.PLEASE READ: Some TNTC+ episodes may be released publicly in the future. Munaf Manji and Griffin Warner get you set for MLB Tuesday betting. The guys also give out best bets. In the RJ Bell Dream Preview MLB podcast, hosts Munaf Manji and Griffin Werner offer a complete betting breakdown for Tuesday's MLB slate. The episode begins with lighthearted banter as both hosts recount humorous Memorial Day mishaps, setting the tone for the in-depth analysis to follow. The podcast proceeds through every major game with detailed assessments of pitching matchups, team form, statistical betting trends, and value-based betting recommendations. The first game reviewed is Dodgers at Guardians, where Dustin May's 0-4 record in road starts is highlighted as a key fade point. Griffin supports a Cleveland lean, and Munaf prefers the game total over due to Tanner Bybee's possible regression. For Cardinals at Orioles, both express skepticism about Andre Pallante as a road favorite, with Baltimore identified as a live dog given Sugano's contact-reliant style and Baltimore's recent bullpen improvement. In Giants at Tigers, Logan Webb's bounce-back potential is weighed against Detroit's disciplined offense. Flaherty's decline and Detroit's playoff-style play hint at a competitive game. The Braves-Phillies game is a marquee matchup where both hosts land on the Phillies, citing Spencer Strider's rust following Tommy John surgery and strong home form for Ranger Suarez. This becomes Griffin's best bet of the show. Next, they evaluate the Twins at Rays. Joe Ryan's 7-0-2 under trend is pitted against Taj Bradley's home run issues. Twins team total over and game over are both floated as viable plays. The Mets vs White Sox game is largely dismissed due to Chicago's poor form and lack of discipline despite Shane Smith's promising numbers. When analyzing Rockies at Cubs, Griffin equates Colorado to a “bad news bears” team and recommends backing Cubs team total over due to Marquez's poor road stats. In Blue Jays at Rangers, they highlight Bowden Francis's struggles and the Rangers' 22-6 under record at home, aligning both to bet the under confidently. Astros vs Athletics is covered next with JP Sears being unpredictable and Hunter Brown highlighted for his success at home and against Oakland. Munaf supports an Astros run line and game under if the total reaches 8. In Yankees at Angels, Rodon's improved form is discussed, along with Anderson's smoke-and-mirrors style that's worked at home. The price is too steep for the Yankees, so Angels +162 and possibly the over are considered. Pirates at Diamondbacks is where Munaf shares his best bet. He backs Arizona -1.5 based on Corbin Burnes' recent form and Pittsburgh's 6-19 road record. For Marlins at Padres, Miami's last-place scoring in the first five innings and San Diego's solid bullpen push both hosts toward first-half or full-game unders, or a light parlay with the Padres moneyline. The show concludes with a promo for pregame.com, urging listeners to use the code ERA20 for 20% off betting packages. Both best bets are recapped: Griffin on the Phillies -113 and Munaf on Diamondbacks -1.5. The summary blends humor, data, and actionable betting strategies, offering a complete picture of the Tuesday MLB card. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Munaf Manji and Griffin Warner break down MLB Friday from a betting perspective. best bets as always. Munaf Manji and Griffin Warner hosted the MLB podcast focusing on Friday's games. They began by reflecting on their recent 2-0 best bets streak, expressing confidence heading into the weekend. The first highlighted game was the Chicago rivalry at Wrigley Field, where Shane Smith starts for the struggling White Sox against Cade Horton of the Cubs. Griffin noted Horton's limited pitch mix might still overpower the weak Sox lineup. Munaf emphasized the Cubs' rest advantage and the Sox's fatigue after a loss in Cincinnati. Next, the Guardians face the Reds in the "Battle of Ohio." Griffin was cautious about Tanner Bybee as a road favorite, pointing out the hitter-friendly park and Brady Singer's vulnerability to home runs. Munaf countered, citing Bybee's strong recent performances, including seven innings against the Phillies, making him lean toward the Guardians' money line. In Philadelphia, Andrew Haney's inconsistency was likened to an unpredictable night out, while Ranger Suarez's solid home record made the Phillies a favored pick, especially on the run line, with Munaf highlighting Haney's poor career numbers against the Phillies. For the Mets vs Yankees, Griffin leaned toward the Mets due to their bullpen strength and skepticism of the Yankees' offense, while Munaf preferred betting the over, expecting home runs from both sides at Yankee Stadium. Griffin selected the Orioles over the Nationals as his best bet, trusting Baltimore's bullpen despite their shaky start to the season. Munaf agreed, noting Cade Povich's prior success against the Nationals. In Toronto, Griffin doubted the Tigers' offense despite their strong start, while Munaf leaned under 8.5, noting Flaherty's rough patch and Francis's vulnerability. In the Braves vs Red Sox matchup, Griffin was hesitant to back Chris Sale and wary of the Braves' underperformance. Munaf praised Crochet's early season form and leaned towards under eight, expecting a pitching duel. Regarding the Astros vs Rangers, both analysts favored the Rangers due to Ivaldi's dominance and McCullers Jr.'s limited pitch count. Munaf stressed the under, given the Astros' offensive struggles and Rangers' home under trends. In Milwaukee, Griffin was cautious about backing the Brewers despite Chad Patrick's solid form, while Munaf pointed out the absence of Buxton and Correa for the Twins, making the under eight a strong play. For the late games, they mocked the Rockies' dire situation in Arizona, where Corbin Burns' Diamondbacks were massive favorites. Munaf joked about backing the D-Backs team total overs. In San Diego, Munaf leaned over eight and a half in the Mariners vs Padres game, noting Koenig's regression potential after his shutout of the Rockies. Griffin, however, was hesitant. The Dodgers vs Angels featured Dustin May against Jack Kahanowitz. Both hosts dismissed the Angels' chances, advising bettors to focus on Dodgers team totals. In the Giants vs A's game, Griffin acknowledged JP Sears' surprising stability but warned about his fly-ball tendencies in San Francisco's pitcher-friendly park. Munaf favored Logan Webb's strong home splits and suggested a Giants win by multiple runs. Finally, the best bets were set: Griffin chose Orioles ML at -108, citing bullpen strength and home field, while Munaf selected Phillies -1.5 at -108, pointing to Suarez's home form and Haney's frailties. Throughout the podcast, both hosts balanced data and playful commentary, giving special attention to pitching matchups, team fatigue, and offensive inconsistencies, emphasizing the significance of situational factors like park dimensions and team travel schedules.
