Welcome to the latest episode of Accidental Business Owners. This is a show we ran last year on our Business in Between channel – but this year we're bringing it onto our main feed. The premise of the show is that last year Steve and Seamus became fulltime business owners. We left our 9-5s to go all in on Between Two Beers – and thought it would be interesting to document our journey.Last year we started working with a business and mindset coach Di Foster, who you might remember as a guest on the podcast and quickly realized she was the perfect foil to help them work through all the highs and lows of being a business owner. We recorded 12 episodes of Accidental Business Owners – and this was our last recording of 2024.It was recorded on a Saturday morning in mid-December – the day after a half-day strategic meeting with Di and our accountant Matt Hinton - at the end after our busiest week of the year. So it's fair to say tensions and emotions were delicately poised – as we tried to chart a path to success in 2025 across our podcast, B2B Speakers and B2B Reflections. This episode is a bit of a ride, and pretty raw, but we're really excited to show more of what's happening behind the scenes with us in 2025.Hang in there for Di's big serve at the end, when she thought the mics were off.Enjoy. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In the mid-nineties, it seemed to many of us that Luxury might be the band most likely to find real success in the wider alternative rock market. Their three-decade journey, however, has defied all expectations. From their early days of alt-punk abandon through a harrowing and deadly car crash and onto a very different path that found three of the members embracing Eastern Orthodoxy and eventually becoming priests, this is a story like none you have ever heard. Through all of the struggle and pain, Fathers Lee and Jamey Bozeman, (vocalist and guitarist,) Matt Hinton (auxiliary guitars,) Father Chris Foley (bass,) and Glenn Black (drums) have emerged as one of the most interesting and engaging alt-rock bands around. Their latest album, Like Unto Lambs came together over a span of five years and may be their best yet. While there has been no shortage of discussions and arguments over the old debate about Christians making music, versus making Christian music, the concept of priests making mainstream alternative rock presents a unique opportunity to reconsider the question about the spiritual and vocational nature of arts and artistry. How might being in a band have informed these pastors' work in the ministry? Might their work as priests inform their work as musicians? Is there a holy way to rock that doesn't involve "Christian Rock?" Join us as we talk with three priests and a sacred Appalachian music historian about their rock band, their brotherhood, their trauma, and a priestly perspective on art. Director Matt Hinton's documentary, Parallel Love: The Story of a Band Called Luxury, has a couple of very interesting wrinkles. Not only is the Georgia post-punk band an act you've likely not heard of, the reunited act now features three members who are Eastern Orthodox priests, and director Hinton is part of the band, as well. That's before you get into the fact that Luxury is an often-forgotten part of the early history of Christian label Tooth & Nail Records, or the terrible accident which almost ended the lives of the band members. It's a fascinating story, filled with music you're sure to wish you'd heard when you were in your teens, as it's so richly-layered and evocative, so it was with some excitement that I hopped on Zoom with director Hinton (who now also plays guitar for Luxury) to talk about all of this and more.

Matt Hinton is a guitarist in the band Luxury and he is also the director of the documentary “Parallel Love: The Story of a Band Called Luxury”. The film will be screening tomorrow at the St. Louis International Film Festival at the Stage at KDHX. We talked about everything from the origins of the film to what it’s like playing with three orthodox priests in a rock band. So without further ado, here’s my interview with director Matt Hinton. Download. Listen. Enjoy!
