We were fans of Tamberla's from such shows as The Good Fight and Bosch and of course, she was in our favorite film of 2023, They Cloned Tyrone, so we were psyched to sit down with her while she was on a whirlwind press tour for her new show Brilliant Minds on NBC/Peacock (along with a certain Ms. Naomi's show St. Denis Medical!), and buddy, do we get into it! Tamberla and her husband have been together for a long, long time, and we find out the story of how they went from friends to lovers against the backdrop of the Chicago theater scene and how a, uh, let's say, "stalker-type" individual inserted himself in the burgeoning relaysh... and MUCH, MUCH MORE! Chris and Sumit from Breaking Atoms podcast join Flixwatcher to review Chris' choice They Cloned Tyrone. They Cloned Tyrone (2023) is a science fiction action comedy mystery film directed by Juel (Creed II writer) Taylor in his directorial debut. It stars John Boyega as Fontaine/Tyrone, a local drug dealer, Jamie Foxx as Slick Charles a pimp and Teyonah Parris as Yo-Yo, one of Slick's girls. One evening Fontaine is doing business with Slick where he is shot and fatally killed by a rival dealer Isaac. The following day Slick is surprised to see Fontaine apparently alive and well, with no recognition of the previous day or shooting. Fontaine and Slick find Yo-Yo who confirms the shooting and the trio follow a vehicle to a house that reveals a secret lab where a very strange experiment is taking place. They Cloned Tyrone brings a variety of genres together including sci-fi and blaxploitation and at times a Scooby Doo mystery. In trying to bring in so many genres it sometimes feels a little unfocused and many of its ideas are not fully fleshed out. However the three main leads are so enjoyable to watch playing off each other that it's hard not to enjoy the adventure. Recommendability scores for They Cloned Tyrone were pretty solid, but with a runtime of two hours it loses points for repeat viewing and engagement to score a respectable 3.47 overall. On today's episode, I talk to writer and director Juel Taylor. Originally from Tuskegee, Alabama, Juel at first wanted to design video games, but in college he shifted his focus to filmmaking. He did different jobs in sound while he was waiting to break through, and in 2018, he co-wrote Creed II. Directing gigs on Boomerang and Twenties followed, as well as co-writing Space Jam: A New Legacy in 2021. This all culminated in Juel's first project as co-writer and director They Cloned Tyrone, which was released last year on Netflix and was one of the best films of 2023! In this week's issue of The Comic Section Podcast, the hosts bring a unique and entertaining twist by having a trial for co-host Rigel, who is defending himself against allegations made by fellow co-host Ant regarding his convenient absence during certain episodes. This playful and humorous segment likely involves light-hearted banter, jokes, and perhaps some theatrical arguments as Rigel defends his case. After the trial, the hosts dive into entertainment news. First on the agenda is the revelation that 80's fitness icon Richard Simmons disavows his biopic starring Pauly Shore. The hosts likely discuss the reasons behind Simmons' disapproval and how this might impact the perception of the biopic. As "Godzilla Minus One" wraps up its notable theatrical run, Toho International announces a remastered black-and-white version of the film for a limited one-week release. The hosts likely explore the artistic choice behind this decision and its significance for fans of the iconic monster. Exciting news for Looney Tunes fans as a new movie titled "The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie" is confirmed for a theatrical release. The hosts likely share their excitement about the return of these classic characters to the big screen. A significant piece of information regarding DC Comics emerges as Superman, Batman, Lois Lane, Joker, and Wonder Woman are set to enter the public domain in a decade's time. The hosts likely discuss the implications of this for the iconic characters and potential creative opportunities for new adaptations. The trailer preview segment offers glimpses of upcoming projects, including Netflix's "The Vince Staples Show," "This Is Me...Now: A Love Story," and "Spaceman." The hosts likely share their initial reactions and expectations for these diverse offerings. In the review segment, Jason provides insights on Marvel's "Echo," Ant offers his thoughts on the 2003 film "Tiptoes," and Rigel reviews "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters," the new Ultimate Spider-Man comic, "Outlaw Johnny Black," and "They Cloned Tyrone." These reviews offer a mix of perspectives on various entertainment offerings. Director Juel Taylor discusses his new film, They Cloned Tyrone, with fellow Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts in a Q&A at the DGA theater in Los Angeles. In the conversation, Taylor discusses how test screenings helped him refine the film, the pitching process that helped start the project and how he mixed filmic inspirations to achieve his unique tone. This week we're reviewing the Netflix horror comedy "They Cloned Tyrone"
Another Empire Podcast, another trio of terrific guests. The wonderful young British actor Harris Dickinson joins us once again, and tells Chris Hewitt all about his new movie, Scrapper, and his cinema-going preferences (24:24 - 39:20). Then Sophie Butcher Zooms in for a chat with Theater Camp (yes, that's the American spelling; no, we're not happy about it) co-director, Nick Lieberman (1:03:44 - 1:20:07). And then that Hewitt fella is back in his sister's kitchen once again for a chat with Juel Taylor, director of the magnificent They Cloned Tyrone (1:38:33 - 1:54:14). Then Chris manages to zip all the way from Northern Ireland to the podbooth for the rest of the ep, where he's joined by Helen O'Hara and James Dyer for a chat about animated shows that deserve a live-action version; a discussion of the week's movie news, including the trailer for Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon and a hastily recorded reaction to the news of Dune Part II's release date shift; and review Scrapper, Theatre Camp (British spelling! HA!), The Innocent, and The Blackening. Oh, and they sing a ton of theme tunes, if that's your bag. Enjoy -- 'ave a banana!

Today Trevor Vida and Kenny sit down to give their reviews of the movie 'They Cloned Tyrone'. A pulpy, sci-fi mystery caper in which an unlikely trio investigates a series of eerie events, alerting them to a nefarious conspiracy lurking directly beneath their hood. Fontaine, a neighborhood drug dealer, is shot dead by rival Isaac and then is very shocked to wake up in his bed the next morning unharmed. He and Slick Charles and Yo-Yo begin looking into the incident, and their search eventually leads them to a vast underground complex where a government backed lab is performing experiments on the local Black population. Realizing that he is an artificial clone controlled by Nixon, Fontaine initially feels despair, but decides he needs to stand up to these White institutional overlords for the sake of his neighborhood.
